    A Good 1080p 60 FPS Gaming Laptop

A good 1080p 60 FPS gaming laptop held back by an easy upgrade. This Asus TUF Gaming F17 (model FX706H) laptop features a 17.3" 1080p/144Hz IPS display with good colors, decent contrast, and plenty of brightness for indoor use. It's CPU is an Intel Core i5-11260H with 6 cores, 12 threads, and a base clock speed of 2.6GHz. The GPU in this laptop is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti with 4GB of GDDR6 video memory, and there is a single 8GB DDR4-3200 CL22 stick of system memory installed with approximately 460GB of SSD capacity available for use. Even after spending only a few hours gaming or web browsing on this laptop, it is apparent to me that there is a clear bottleneck occurring. The issue at hand is the 8GB of system memory - it's simply not enough for a gaming laptop in 2021. In games, the memory utilization encroaches upon 80-90%, and browsing the web with multiple tabs or windows open will see similar results. While the solution is easy and doesn't take too long to take care of, it's an extra step - and more importantly an extra cost - for the end user to deal with to get a pleasing experience out of this laptop, in my opinion. An additional 8GB stick of system memory (260-pin DDR4 SDRAM) will cost roughly $50-60, or for about double that you could get a 2x8GB kit (16GB total) and just replace the pre-installed stick. I believe that either option would work wonders for this laptop's performance. Other than the limited system memory, this is actually a fairly nice laptop. The display is nice, the keyboard is surprisingly comfortable to type on and has customizable RGB backlighting, and there is even a numpad and webcam (no privacy shutter though). The thermal performance is adequate with temperatures usually in the high 70's Celsius, and while the fans do get quite audible under load they do not have an annoying high pitched sound profile like some other laptops might experience. There are multiple performance modes in Asus Armory Crate to control fan noise and system performance. I am impressed that there was almost no bloatware installed when I setup Windows. No McAfee (thank God) or other anti-virus software, no travel apps or knock-off Candy Crush games. The only things that I uninstalled were MyAsus and an Office 365 trial. So overall, do I recommend this laptop? Honestly - no. Find one that has 16GB of RAM, especially if you aren't comfortable opening up the laptop and playing with the internal components, and even if it means compromising for a smaller SSD or screen size. 8GB just is not enough system memory in 2021. If you don't mind spending another $50 or $100 for a memory upgrade, or you get a really good deal like the $200 off promotion that I got mine from, then sure go for it. Otherwise, I strongly recommend that you heed my advice and look elsewhere.

I Live in east africa so i had to get this laptop shipped to me and it took 2 weeks. during these 2 weeks i read so many reviews that scared me and made me doubt buying this laptop, but i kid you not, you do not need to worry because this laptop is amazing and i love it. One thing you do need to do is upgrade the storage and ram if you will actually be gaming because the stock ram and storage is not enough. some reviews say that the battery life is horible, however it really is not that bad. I have been taking this laptop to school for 1 week, all i have to say is turn off the keyboard lights, lower the brightness, set the computer to silent in armoury crate and it will give you 4 hours when you're not gaming. another thing i saw in the reviews was that the screen color was horrible and the brightness was not good, i will confirm that the color is not the best but it is usable, to fix this though, you can just go to armoury crate and change the game visual to RTG/RPG and it become way better, the brightness is good also i have no complains. here are some things to note down though: - when you want to start gaming, make sure you turn on the laptop with the charger already plugged in and if the charger comes out by mistake while the laptop is on, plug it back in and restart the laptop because when the laptop is on battery, it lowers the cpu power by alot and it sets the base speed from 1-2.3ghz however if you turn on the laptop while plugged in, you get 2.6-4ghz on the CPU - if you are planning to upgrade the ram, there is no XMP and so you will need to find JEDEC ram to run at 3200mhz otherwise the speed will go down to 2933mhz like mine or 2666 as i have seen on forums.

Got this for my teenage son and he loves it! Huge upgrade from his laptop 4-5 years ago. Graphics are solid, refresh rate definitely noticeable compared to many other laptops we've tried at a similar price point and it feels pretty durable. My son says he's been winning a lot more since playing on it. Like others mentioned for this laptop, it does get hot, but a simple laptop fan works awesome. Had it for almost 3 months and zero problems so far. I don't know about the battery life since it's plugged in most of the time.

I am a computer repair person so I have seen a fair number of laptops. I like everything about this one. The quality and performance seems to be top notch. I can't say how good or bad it is for gaming, but so far nothing has disappointed me. I will add another 8 gig of RAM when I get around to it because 16 gig is where you really want to be for Windows 10, but it does everything I need with the current 8 gigs. I almost never use it strictly on battery, so I can not say anything about the battery life.

Great ASUS gaming laptop. Love the 17.3" screen and the NVIDIA graphics are really great. The only negative thing to say is that there is only 8GB of ram...which is easily fixed by inserting a second DIMM. The keyboard is sturdy and easy to use and the whole machine has a solid feel to it. Playing games on this works with its configuration, but a larger SSD might be useful and can be upgraded later. There is no lag in the display and game play is smooth and consistent.

I really wish I could give this 5 stars, like this laptop deserves it so badly from how good it's been to me for as long as I've had it, it is a major improvement from my last laptop. The only thing preventing me from giving it 5 stars is that the battery is sub par. On a full charge its like 2 hours of just idling. (This is of course with performance mode always on without battery saver on or anything like that) But I mostly use my laptop while plugged in. Regardless, it would be nice to have a longer lasting battery. But a nice feature included in the MyASUS app that comes preinstalled is a handy feature called maximum lifespan mode, where if you have your laptop plugged in, it will only charge 60% of the battery, so that way the remaining 40% of your battery receives a longer lifespan. All this though without even mentioning the amount of power you are getting for the price. An RTX3050 is gonna run any game you wanna play paired with the 6 core 11th gen i5. For only $1,000 (It went on sale for $900 right before I bought it and then went on sale again immediately after I bought it, so I had to spend an extra hundred) The only other gripe I could have with this laptop is it would've been nice to get maybe an extra USB port and an SD card reader, I mean it already has 3 USB ports but I have a lot of things I plug into my laptop so it just would've been nice to see even just one more. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this laptop. Especially if you can get it for $900 on sale.

It is fast, but you need to add more ram too get the full gaming use. And a good laptop cooler for it to sit on, It runs hot when stressed. You can't do much better for the price in a laptop unless you go over a grand. I like it, and recommend it for most games.

YOUR SEARCH ENDS HERE! There has been a major concern regarding the heating of this laptop and TUF Gaming in general due to restricted air from the bottom pannel. However, after an extensive amount of research and minor self testing, I can assure any buyer that this model does not have any of those issues (stay away from models with 1650ti) in fact, this model seem to have visably open bottom pannels for better cooling! ASUS must have addressed the heating issues with their new 3050ti+ lineup. Suggested Upgrade: Considering it has 3200 ram speed, it's a shame they didn't bundle it with 16gb of ram. I highly recommend upgrading to 16gb (x2 8gb of ram). DO NOT buy any 3200 8gb of ram and simply add it to the exsiting stick, make sure they are compatable first or it will hinder performance! I went with: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 3200 for $70 Hands down best 17 inch Gaming Laptop for the price with the ram upgrade. Most competitor start well above $1200+ with the same specs.

I’m really enjoying this laptop it’s really big and does not feel cheaply made. So far I’ve played apex legends, fall guys, and South Park stick of truth they all ran smoothly. It was also easy to install some more ram into the laptop with a quick YouTube video.

Like the subject says, this laptop is amazing. I bought it for my daughter to take to college, but I will be buying another one for myself. Everything runs buttery smooth, and upgrading it was the easiest I have ever dealt with. I added an additional 8GB of Crucial SO-DIMM 3200 RAM ($37) in the empty 2nd RAM slot and an additional 1TB Western Digital Black m.2 SSD ($121) in the empty M.2 slot. And within 5 mins, it recognized both and was on my way. With these two easily added upgrades, it rivals laptops in the $1,400 range. All for $950 in total out of pocket. The 3050Ti, while not a 3060, is more than capable. Highly recommend this laptop!

Near instant boot times w/SSD i/o HDD. And an open bay for an additional SSD & HDD. Upgrades! Backlit keyboard. 8Gb RAM. Not especially impressive, again, but upgradable, to 64Gb. 144hz refresh monitor makes for clean edges and easy on the eyes. Audio? Eh. Battery: Meh... Spends most of its time plugged in. The sturdy case and texture make for a unique look and rugged nature, although with a 17" monitor care needs to be taken regardless. Very nice display, FHD, keyboard action is good. For the value of the sum of its parts, this was a great buy. The upgrades available make it a fantastic buy, and it's a more than reasonable compromise for the dual-purpose unit it's purported to be. Well done.

I bought 3 of these laptops. one for me and one for each of my boys. I added an additional 8gb of ram as 8gb isn't enough. After doing all of the updates and getting my files over from my old computer, i am loving this laptop! It's a huge screen for a laptop and it's so clear. the nearly full sized keyboard is nice too! And the RTX3050 Ti graphics card tests out as a pretty good card for only being 4gb of video memory on it. I wanted an Asus TUF gaming laptop because they are military spec for temperature extremes, humidity and also minor drops. It gives a little more piece of mind. Also, Asus includes 1 year of accidental warranty coverage for their laptops in case of drops, spills, etc!

Wow. Mobile VR It is running MS Flight Simulator 2020 Quest2 VR on mostly low with satellite feed. Have to tweak it. MSFS2020 update 5 helped smoothe out the game, but prior to the update I doubt laptop could handle it. It was running like bloatware. Amazing. DCS VR should be even better. Mobile Fighter pilot VR. Added 8gb Ram. Not to add Ram for $40 to $70 is a crime for this video card. Might switch out for 16gb to total 24gb. So impressed. Dam thing for the money rivals my hard tube liquid cooled iBuyPower desktop with a 2070S I bought at Bestbuy. Just check your Windows settings to make sure your CPU Turbos. Also might need a tweak for Occulus Quest2 if Desktop is blacked out. Real minor tweak that might have to do with the Asus power management and Windows power management. Can't believe I got this on sale for $850.

This is the first laptop I've bought in about 7 years. I did my research and kept coming back to this one. For the price you can't go wrong ( when I purchased mine it was under $800). With a 144hz refresh rate, 512GB SSD and 8 gigs of ram this laptop will handle almost anything you throw its way. The SSD and ram can be easily upgraded if you want to go that route. When you first boot it up there are some updates that need to be done but nothing out of the ordinary. This laptop is a great value and from a great company.

Very happy with it so far. Could use a little more explanation on how to use the Armoury Crate appropriately because as a non-gamer I think it's trying too hard to do fancy things when it doesn't need to be. And I wish the graphics memory wasn't the minimum because all other hardware is rated so much better. It is heavy, and the power converter is also really heavy, so you have to have a strong back. And surprisingly warm, but only at times. Overall, though, really loving it so far.

I got this during the Labor Day sale (it wasn’t that big of a sale but saved me a few bucks). This is my second and first Windows laptop that I owned, so I’m very excited to use it for minor games and art stream. I like how the screen is so wide. Also didn’t expect the keyboards will have colors, too. I’m giving it a 4 star for now, since I haven’t tried anything extreme yet. But so far, I have no issue. So glad I waited for this. Third time’s a charm :D
