I upgraded to the ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 5090 a few weeks ago, and after using it for both gaming and creative work, here’s my honest take from a buyer’s perspective.
Performance firsthand:
Right out of the box the 5090 shows its muscle. In 4K gaming, I saw clear improvements over my older GPU: smoother frame rates, especially in titles pushing ray tracing or AI upscaling. The 32 GB of GDDR7 and 512-bit memory interface (28 Gbps memory speed) give it big headroom for high-resolution textures and heavy workloads. On lighter or older games (or when I drop down to 1440p/1080p), the difference is there but less dramatic — which makes sense.
Build & cooling:
The TUF version feels very solid. The cooling solution is robust: triple-fan design, large heatsink, and ASUS’s “Vapor Chamber” + “MaxContact” tech under the hood. During extended sessions the card ran in the low-70s °C and the fans remained quiet for the most part. I appreciated the clean industrial look of the TUF styling—nothing overly flashy, but built to last.
Installation and system fit:
This card is physically large. ASUS lists dimensions ~348 × 146 × 72 mm and it uses a multi-slot width footprint. I had to ensure good airflow in my case, and upgrade my PSU to a 1000W unit just to be safe. The board and power connector demands are substantial. While the TUF card alleviates some of the power-connector issues seen in other reference models, it’s still a serious piece of hardware.
Use-case for creators & gamers:
For gaming at 4K, high refresh, or enabling full ray tracing + DLSS/AI features, this card is excellent. For my Blender renders and AI model work, the 32 GB VRAM has been a real boon—less memory swapping, fewer hiccups with complex scenes. If you’re a creator or heavy duty gamer, this is a very sensible choice. If you’re gaming in 1080p or don’t leverage heavy workloads, it might be overkill.
What I didn’t love:
Price and power draw. I paid a premium for this card, and the power consumption is indeed high—so expect higher electricity usage and ensure your cooling/case/PSU are up to the task. Also, if you already have a high-end previous-gen card (say RTX 4090 or similar), the uplift might not feel transformational unless you actively use those high demands.
Final verdict:
I’m happy with the ASUS TUF RTX 5090 for my use. It gives me “top level” performance and the build quality to match. If I were buying again purely for gaming with older hardware or lower resolution, I might pause and consider cost-benefit. But for what I do—games at 4K + creative work—it’s a solid investment.

I'm new to high end PC gaming after landing a TUF gaming 5090 seemingly impossibly during the height of the difficulty purchasing them and based a nice rig around it--stayed with TUF for the X870 plus wifi motherboard and a 1200w gold power supply which is ATX 3.1 compatible with a 12 pin cable they included for ise with these cards (just make sure your cable's connectors are snugly plugged in or meltdowns can happen supposedly with these GPUs. Anyway--gaming experience so far is fantastic running games on ultra settings in 4K at up to 240fps with a monitor that can handle those specs. Temps on the gpu stay low--used GPU Tweak III and let it do it's own overclock scanning which seems to work fine. Updates are pretty simple with armoury crate app which can update and tweak the motherboard and CPU fan curves, etc. ASUS also has a driver hub separately that is worth checking for updates.

I built my PC with all high end hardware back in 2023, but kept my 3060. I wanted 4090 and I just dont know for some reason why I never bought it when it was for only $1,600 everywhere. Anyways, I was lucky enough to get this on Mar 13th drop. Everything has been great so far from performance to cooling 10/10. It’s definitely a solid card and not cheaply made. I will recommend this card only if you have money for it.

Card works excellently and stays incredibly cool under heavy load. I usually run 3 monitors with multiple gpu intensive applicaitons on in the background and game without any issues. Nvidia needs to work out these driver issues, but I'm confident that will happen over time.
This card is expensive, but if you can find it at the retail price it can be worth it if you have a heavy workload.

Amazing Upgrade and Runs Cool and Quiet

I upgraded to the ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 5090 from my old EVGA RTX 3080 launch card, and honestly, this thing is wild. I grabbed it at MSRP, and I am still shocked I got that lucky. It runs cool, feels solid, stays quiet, and the performance is on a completely different level.
It has a ton of video outputs with 2 HDMI 2.1b and 3 DisplayPort 2.1b, which is more than I will ever need for my 2 monitors and my OLED TV. The dual BIOS is a great addition. I am using the performance mode, and everything has been smooth. Also, keep in mind that this is a four-slot card, so make sure you have room for it in your case. I also like the included GPU sag holder, and it is nice that it is adjustable. Another thing to know is that it uses four PCIe power cables for the included 12VHPWR cable.
The only small thing I noticed is that the outer shroud is plastic. My old RTX 3080 had a bit more metal in its shroud. It is not a big deal and does not affect cooling or performance, but it was the one thing that surprised me a little.
Overall, I am really happy with it, and it has been an awesome upgrade.

I can run any game at max settings at 4k 240hz and have a blast. The DLSS and frame gen isn’t bad. The youtubers and people are right that they are “fake frames” but you can barely even tell, 99% of the time it feels the same. So for me, a gamer who just want the absolute best experience. This card does it. There is literally nothing better or more powerful. And Because of that the price doesn’t really matter to me, if you’re the same, any 5090 is a no brainer.

Excellent card and handles anything you trow at it! Its big tho and heavy. Thankfully my case had room and definitely use the support post that comes with the card! Had to set my bios pcie slot to gen 4 to recognize at first but after updating and some reconfiguration of my bios, its back up to gen5 settings. Older motherboards (z690 amd even a z790) may struggle at pcie gen5 and may require gen 3 or 4 settings. Stable performance with undervolting/overclock tune in Afterburner, the massive fans keeps the card nice and cool!

Really no complaints so far. Bought from another manufacturer earlier, which was about $600 more expensive than this one, with supposedly better build quality and cooling system. But there’s really not much difference justifying the more expensive card, because this card could undervolt to 0.895V at 2800MHz, while the core stayed at 65C and quiet.

Took a really long time to get, but I am liking it so far. Happy to get this at MSRP. Very quiet and temps are pretty good, fans down turn on until you really start to use it like play a game. Fans will typically be off when you’re idle. Would highly recommend.

This and the Nvidia FE RTX 5090 are really the only two 5090s you can get at the MSRP of $2000.
This one is much easier to find in stock. And it has superior cooling, noise levels.
My only complaint is that the aesthetic isn't very appealing.

Overkill....yes....fun...absolutely! It's awesome to crank up visuals on nearly any game to MAX, and still have butter-smooth framerates. It's built like a tank as well. The expensive is astronomical of course, but sometimes we just have to treat ourselves.

The ASUS TUF RTX 5090 is perfect for AI image generation and deep learning experiments. Its 32 GB VRAM hits the sweet spot — I can run any diffusion model and its corresponding CLIP text encoder at full precision without issue. The card stays cool and quiet even on my 5-year-old X570 platform, which really impressed me.
The only downsides were the shipping and packaging. Delivery arrived about 24 hours later than estimated, and the outer box was damaged with minimal protection. Thankfully, the GPU itself was intact — I’d call that good luck.
Overall, excellent performance and thermal design, just wish the delivery experience matched the product quality.

Powerful, no coil whine - and UV/OC like a champ. EASILY the best 5090 variant you can get. Even snagged it at MSRP. Very nice pickup from a 4080 super. Only downside is the general pricing of GPUs going up every Gen...
