GREAT PC WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I love my new PC. There are, however, several very annoying issues. 1. When I first turned it on I had to select certain items such as what country I live in and other things. One thing I had to do was create a password to even use it. There was no way to bypass this requirement. It is EXTREMELY annoying that sometimes my PC recognizes my password and sometimes it doesn't. I've gone so far as entering it repeatedly for up to 30 minutes with no success. I wait an hour or two to try again and, all of a sudden, my password is accepted. 2. There is no way to disable the touch pad. Talk about frustrating! 3. There is no light on the numbers lock key so I have to double check if it's active by watching to see if a number shows when I type it. 4. I was VERY disappointed to discover that the earphones "outlet" doesn't work. When I plug in my ear buds the sound isn't in them and still comes out of the PC speaker. I use ear buds so I can listen to various things without disturbing or annoying my roommate. How frustrating it is that I can no longer do so. 5. I wish Best Buy read reviews when they're first submitted. It would be great if someone contacted me to address these issues.

Afordable everyday laptop.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, I got this laptop for my father at a great price while it was under a special offer. For everyday tasks involving internet, videos, music (CD/DVD) and some document creation (Word) this computer does it very well, no complaints about the slow regular HDD provided (I wish it was an SSD, but for the price...). Graphics seems to be the only thing not exciting (but again the price...) the resolution is not high end and the colors are very good (but not great). It helps having a usb3.0, to transfer files or watch videos on a usb. So far my dad loves it, we even did a wireless projection on the Sony TV and showed the pics and videos of our last vacation. Perhaps I should have bought one for me to keep it around the house.

Good deal for price and basic computing
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband likes to listen to books downloaded from the library . This computer was perfect for this purpose. It is not the fastest on the market, but that was not an issue for us. I spoke with a Best Buy salesperson before purchase and we discussed which of the two computers I was considering would work best for our purposes. I would strongly suggest doing that before making a purchase. It can be very helpful The computer is very light, and easy to use. I am an Apple user and would have liked an instruction manual to come with the computer.

ASUS = style
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always buy ASUS laptops because they to me make the most visually appealing hardware this side of apple. Make no mistake, this is a budget laptop, but a powerful one. It is on the more powerful side for this price range, and features upgradable RAM. The only downside is the build quality, which ASUS usually suffers with on it's lower end models. It's a little too flimsy feeling, especially the screen. That doesn't mean, however, that it isn't a good looking piece of hardware. The plastic has a brushed metal look that I think does a good job at making this look more expensive than it is.

Lasted 2 months
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my mom who won’t need a beefy computer as all she does is watch YouTube and go on Facebook. Although she didn’t use the computer for any intense processes the computer started having problems and would heat up, freeze, and the fan would keep blowing extremely loud until the battery ran out (couldn’t turn off manually). She stopped using it and a few months later brought it to Best Buy and they replaced the hard drive for free as it was still under warranty. The computer works now but it is significantly slower than it was before and maybe this has to do with how hot the computer was getting. Needless to say this computer is in no good use. Asus makes really really good mid range to high range computers and I’ve never been disappointed until now. My overall impression after having done some research is that Asus in general is a bad brand to use for low range computers such as this one. Either save your money and get a better laptop or choose a different brand.

Good computer at a good price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been a good computer so far, quite easy to use. Geek Squad set it up for me and have had no problems. Have watched movies on it with no problem, sound is very good. Felt like this was a good price for the computer I needed.

Nice Laptop for the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for my wife and she seems to love it. The only complaint she has is the touch pad has to be pushed down to click on something you cant just lightly tap on it with one finger like I can on my Acer laptop. Other than that it has been a good computer so far for the money.

If you need connections.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the laptop for you! Inexpensive, reasonable horsepower, and a built in DVD/CD player/burner! Not a lot of units have them anymore. This also has an sd card slot, vga and hdmi outs, and usb 2 and usb 3! The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars? The weirdness with the "auto click on hover" is aggravating! (NO I did NOT want to go someplace, I wanted to stay where I was) I have already recommended this unit to 2 friends whom have BOTH purchased the 540, & happy with them as well.

Solid for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased as backup and for kids use, works well in both capacities. Bit slow on the uptake and takes time booting up, but otherwise solid especially in the price range.

So far ok
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop for my daughter and when I got home I went through the start up and everything went fine until I downloaded Chrome. As soon as the download started the screen went black and would not come back on. I ended up taking it back and was told that there was something wrong with this one and exchanged it. They actually started this one up in the store and downloaded Chrome for me to make sure everything was ok. So far I have not had anymore issues and it works fine.

Good until you use it a lot
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this computer every day. I try not to save much on it. But over the past year it has become slower and sometimes clicks off. Not sure if it's just the one I bought or if this is common. But for the low cost at least I was able to get a lap top.

Great Value
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife's Samsung laptop started to die, so we were relatively desperate to get her a replacement. However, we did not have a large budget, so we tried to target just key features that she absolutely needed to get her through college. Our son already had an Asus laptop, and he had no issues with it, so we were quite comfortable with this brand. We also were quite ecstatic with the value that this laptop provided, given all of its features. We purchased it immediately, and my wife has been satisfied with it. The only negative comment she has is with the keyboard and touch pad. The keyboard buttons do not feel as smooth as other laptops that she has enjoyed. The touch pad is either too sensitive or not. Sounds weird, but it just does not seem to cooperate as needed. Otherwise, I would strongly recommend this laptop to anyone with a small budget.

Great for what we bought it for!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Am homeschooling my little one and this is sufficient for what he needs; doing school work, watching online lessons, and to participating in forums. I tried a Chromebook and a tablet neither were able to perform or allow us to fully participate. It's slow, especially compared to my gaming system, but for what he needs, it's perfect. I wouldn't attempt even non-online gaming with this laptop. We are able to check email, log into his curriculum, and online forums, but sometimes it takes longer than my tablet or my main computer. Great for a first computer for someone.

Wonderful for my child
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our 9 year-old twins needed basic computers for schoolwork and for moderate use for playing around on the internet. The price was certainly right and it's perfect for our kids' screen time as we limit it likely more than most parents.

Sluggish response
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace my Dell that crashed. I spend 90% of my time on the web, so internet response is very high for my satisfaction. The hard drive was bloated with a lot of software that I will never use, so I deleted the excess. This PC has a Pentium CPR, so it is dated, but the sales clerk assured me that it would do a good job for me. Sadly, this PC is very slow. The keyboard is easy to use. I have not tested the battery life, because I am usually at my desk when using it. The PC is very lite and sleek. I think the PC is overloaded with background processes even though I have deleted much of the excess that I will not use. Perhaps some of the problem is the large amount of ads that are hard to block. I am tolerating the problems for now, but I am hoping that I can find a simple solution to my problems.

good computer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decent deal for the price, but definitely one can tell that its a lower end device. Biggest complaint is that the keyboard and touch not work well for me. but still good deal.

good for simple use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer as one on which my husband could listen to his audiobooks. It serves that purpose very well. The sound is very good and clear. When headphones are attached it can take a while for the headphone screen to come up. The computer is good for simple tasks. It is certainly slower than my Apple, but serves our purpose very well. Microsoft 10 comes with the computer and has its quirks. Every now and then the system shuts down. Just turn it off and let it sit a bit and then start again. I have been told that this is a Microsoft problem and not related to computer or internet provider.

Great notebook with decent specifications
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These were decent notebook computers and specifications for a great price. You get a pentium processor, DVD burner, 4 Gig of Ram memory and a 500 Gigabyte Hardrive. There were plenty of ports including USB 3.0, HDMI and Ethernet. If you can't afford $500-$700 for a notebook computer. These will do a good job for under $300
