Bang for the buck, not best.

I didn't do enough research before i purchased this laptop. However its a good laptop for web browsing, youtube, netflix, and documents. It is ideal for a budget college student. I purchased this laptop for my dad which uses it for work. He complained that there was a lag time in between switching from one application to another. If this laptop ran windows 7 or 8 os then it would have gotten 5 stars rating. It doesnt have a detachable battery so keep that in mind. Like mentioned above, if youre on a budget but have a little extra, I would recommend finding one with a faster processor. this laptop has a intel pentium cpu, which is a tier below the intel core i3 (from what i was told). I have two other Asus laptops which is a great company!

    Great laptop in general

I read almost half of the reviews before purchasing this laptop and generally, people said it was good for browsing the internet, typing up documents, etc. I don't disagree with that. 85% of the time, this laptop is pretty fast despite the processor only being a Intel Pentium Quad core. I use an Intel i7 core for gaming and for browsing in the internet, this laptop is just a bit slower than my gaming laptop. For those who play League of Legends, it works perfectly with this laptop. You may be stuck on the loading screen for about 2-3 minutes, but so far, I haven't lagged at all in game. You may have to turn down some graphics setting just to prevent lag though. This laptop only has a 4gb memory so multi-tasking (i.e. downloading a huge program & web browsing at the same time) may be difficult. You'll find web browsing to be slower when you try to do two huge tasks at the same time. However, other than that, this laptop is definitely worth it's price.

    Good basic laptop

This is a good basic laptop for browsing the internet or doing work on. It is not good for games or other intensive applications. It would get 5 stars from me if it had 1080p screen, upgrade-able RAM, and a slightly faster processor, but that would easily put in into the $4-500 or greater range. You get what you pay for but this is a good value laptop. Pros: Cheap, looks nice, includes dvd burner which gets little use nowadays but I like to have one. Cons: RAM not upgradeable (no slots) it is soldered onto board. The trackpad takes a while to get used to. The processor can be slow sometimes.

After reading lots of positive reviews on this laptop and a few negative, I thought this laptop would be good for my online school assignments. Purchasing it on sale for $199 was a steal and I figured I just need the basics to get me from Point A to Point B. When I turned on the computer it seemed great, I connected to my Wifi without any issues and seemed to move relatively quickly. After the second day, everything went down hill. I would lose internet connection at random for no apparent reason. Thinking it was the internet connection, I tried connecting to wifi with my tablet as well as my phone. I had no issues connecting to them and it was rather quickly for both. I would have to restart the machine for it to connect back to wifi, I did this twice in a matter of 3 hours. The next day, the same thing happened and I went to reboot, it took over an hour to reboot the machine without any windows updates. The computer will freeze and be unresponsive multiple times within an hour. Also, the keys seem very hollow and it is loud when you type. There are times I will have to hold a key down for it to show up on the screen, sometimes I am typing faster than the laptop responds (keep in mind I only type about 45 to 50 words per minute). The CD drive will open at random and is very sensitive to opening when you move the laptop around. The laptop while running is very quiet and is extremely cool to the touch. I am able to open multiple tabs on the internet, but it does lag a little (I have 5 open now). The battery life is about 3.5 to 4 hours, this is from getting on my class courses online, typing assignments, and watching about an hour worth of videos for the class. If you just need this to occasionally get on the internet and type a few papers, this is perfect. However, if you need this for school or business, don't waste your time. Thankfully Best Buy has a great return policy and lets you try out the computer, if not, I would be stuck with a very slow machine.

It's pretty user friendly. Has a bunch of free app capabilities similar to android products. Light weight and mostly ready to go. Only has to install a few things and adjust some settings to make it work for my needs.

I needed a budget friendly laptop and I liked the features this one had. I really only needed it to do basic internet browsing and to use Microsoft Office. However, not even 5 hours into setting it up, it dropped the wireless signal. I constantly have to restart the laptop because it will not connect to my wireless. A laptop that cannot hold onto wireless is completely useless. I have tried one suggestion of turning off the option to turn off wireless to save power (why is this even an option??!!) but it has not fixed the issue. My last attempt at fixing it will be to update the bios because for some reason it is a year old and doesn't have the latest updates from earlier this month. In my opinion, a brand new computer, I shouldn't have to do that at all. If that does not solve the issue this is going back to the store. I haven't even had it a week. Other people have complained about the dropping wireless too, so it appears to be an issue with this laptop. Something needs to be fixed on Asus's end. A laptop is worthless if you constantly have to plug an ethernet cable in.

If you want it for netflix or things that need to load it's slow. If you are using it for email, research, and school it's great for that. The best you're going to find for the price.

I bought this to upgrade my Lenovo IdeaPad 100s which is too slow for me. This is quicker but it just feels so cheaply made I can't get used to how it feels. Battery life isn't as good as my old one either. Pluses are type C port, DVD drive, mouse pad(scrolling, clicking feels like my finger will poke a hole through it) screen size. It's ok for the price but I'm swapping it out for Dell's $350 door buster.

Considering the price...but if possible jump to i3

This laptop is awesome for the price, I didn't expect much but it runs really smoothly. One thing I would advice is to clean it up before you use it, their is a lot of unnecessary bloatware on the computer that makes it boot a lot slower, makes it less responsive & very choppy. First thing I did was open up the task manager to see what was running by default and uninstalled anything unnecessary. After cleaning it up and having it as a bare bones system it boots up in about 6-10 seconds, the wifi card in this is nice, haven't had any trouble loading. Not the most responsive thing but it gets the job done. If possible I'd highly suggest moving up to an i3 model with at least 6gb of ram, but if you're on a tight budget don't go anything lower than this!

This laptop is great for people who are planning on getting a lightweight (it is a little heavy but not to the point where you can't carry it with your textbooks in your backpack), and cheap laptop purposely for school. My total was $299.98 and I do not regret getting this laptop. I am a new College student and this laptop has not been a problem yet! Although the right numbers keyboard can be kind of annoying, It comes in handy sometimes. I highly recommend this laptop for anyone who is who is going to buy a laptop SPECIFICALLY for school. This laptop wont be able to withstand if you purchase it for other purposes like gaming. Since it only has 4 GB, its perfect for storing your school documents. I haven't had it crash on me yet, so A+++++ as well.

Great budget laptop with no frills.

This laptop reminds me of a netbook but in a bigger format. The speed is far from the traditional netbook as it has quad-core atom processor. For a 15" screen I am getting about 5-6 hours worth of battery on it. If you are looking for a no frills budget laptop then this is it for you. The laptop is extremely hard to open if you want to upgrade the HDD to a SSD. The ram is currently soldered to the motherboard so you cannot upgrade it. It would had been nice if there was Bluetooth and back-lit keyboard, I think that would had been the cherry on the top.

I have replaced HDD to SSD and now is good enough to do my regular basics. Cons: I have to remove all screws from the bottom and whole bottom cover.Only one screw was holding hard drive base. Bought PNY SSD from Best Buy also, unfortunately cloning software included with hard drive is not cloning properly so I had to install fresh windows and touch pad stop working while installing because of lack of driver so usb mouse come handy. After installing windows computer download necessary drivers and touch pad start working again

this laptop is working fine, it can handle most of your daily use works but it doesnt handle multi works at the same time. some time it freezes i think because of 4gb ram.

This laptop works well enough for checking email and doing things on the web. The touchpad is pretty sensitive and there aren't enough settings for it. The keyboard is fine. The screen is reasonably good. It's light which is nice. It was easy to upgrade the drive to an SSD, but I wish the RAM was upgradeable - 4GB isn't really enough for Windows 10. It's a good value for around $200 but not for the full retail price.

I like this laptop. Once I set up everything it ran very smoothly. The only thing I don't like about it is the keyboard does feel a little cheap but if that doesn't bother you then your all good. Surprisingly I've had this thing on for over 4 1/2 hrs and it hasn't even gotten hot. I bought a wireless mouse for mine just to have around. I do recommend getting Geek Squad just incase it does go down sooner rather than later.

I was thinking about buying this laptop and then it had a price drop of more than $60 so I decided to go ahead and buy it. I am happy with my purchase but have a few complaints. The first is that initial setup takes a while to get through because it downloads some updates before you even get to the desktop. The second complaint is that that it comes with software that you will never use which I had to uninstall.
