It takes a LONG time between pushing the button in the August App for the lock to respond (like 5-15 seconds). I have this unit installed in an electrical outlet that is right next to the door and within 4 lineal feet from the lock as the crow flies. I can lock/unlock the August lock with my iPhone Bluetooth from 15-20 feet away, but when running the signal strength test on the Connect Bridge during set-up it tells me that Wi-Fi is excellent and Bluetooth is too low to work. I even put the unit on an extension cord and held it against the lock and got the same error message. The lock does work even after the error message, but it takes a long time for a response. I do not have a lot of other options for the August lock, if I want to remotely lock & unlock the door. It is unfortunate that August has chosen to put this product on the market for the past 2 years and not improved it to perform better. Perhaps if they installed them on all their executives offices at their headquarters and forced them to use it every time to enter and exit their offices they might put some more effort into it.

Essential equipment that should have been included

If you really want to get the most out of your August Smart Lock, this is really an essential piece of equipment - so much so that it should be included with the lock itself.
You can use the lock without the August Connect and it will work fine, but adding the Connect provides Smart Home integrations as well as unlocks (no pun intended) the features of the August system that are probably most appealing to consumers (remote access, monitoring, alerts, etc). Without it, you can only take advantage of a fraction of the locks capabilities.
That said, we have installed almost the full August ecosystem - lock, keypad, and connect - and, after two months, we are pretty happy with it. It installs easily, is easy to use, and has been pretty reliable.

August bridge for August smart Lock

The bridge works as expected. A quick warning for those of you looking to smarten up your home. Between the smart Lock and the bridge, you will spend a lot of money. There are currently a lot of alternative products coming out that you may find less expensive and appealing. August has been in the market through two generations, so also take that into account. The instructions say to plug the bridge into an outlet within 30 get off the lock. 15 get seems to be the more reliable distance. What you're getting with the bridge is the ability to check in and lock,/unlock when away from home. There is a noticable amount of time for the app to sync to the lock but it does work and provides peace of mind. August needs to continue working on software enhancements to improve reliability and speed. To clarify, the lock itself works via Bluetooth. The bridge adds the ability to access the link through your home network. Google home works with the August lock however you have to ask Google to ask August the status of the lock. For security reasons you cannot unlock the door using voice control with Google home you can only lock it and check the status of the lock.

Overall, the bridge does it's job but sometimes at a slow rate. Mine is usually pretty slow to tell me the status of my lock (of course this also depends on your internet speed at home*/on your phone) but I feel like other security measures, like Arlo's videos, work completely fine and quicker.
The thing I like the most is when I'm remotely notified of my door opening/closing and when the lock goes offline. I think that just calms my nerves about my home the most because until I get a security system, this doesn't do that much lol.
*I have a 100mbps fiber connect at home.

You simply plug it in and set it up on your phone. Very straightforward. Only downside is that you need an outlet within 10 feet of your lock or you may face connection issues. I haven't had to remotely connect to the lock when away from home yet, but a few times when my Android phone wouldn't connect and unlock the door automatically my backup plan was to remotely connect and it worked -- right outside my door mind you.
I don't have door sense installed, but I assume it works. Will update if I can drill a hole into my apartments steel door frame.

Easy setup. Connection distance to the lock is a little suspect. Make sure you have a close outlet and the router is fairly close to the bridge.

If you do not have an Apple TV that supports Apple HomeKit his is an essential addition to the August Smart Lock.
The installation and setup seem easy enough, however, the hidden tricky part is to find the sweet spot where the Connect can get a solid Wi-Fi signal as well as a good Bluetooth connection to the Smart Lock.
Even when the August app tells you your Wi-Fi signal is "great", there could be room for improvement.
At first I connect the Connect directly to my Wi-Fi router, which is on the second floor. The August app indicates Wi-Fi SNR (at 44) and Signal (at -54) are both "Great". However, it takes about 10 to 15 seconds for the Smart Lock to respond to the lock/unlock commands issued remotely.
Then I used an old Wi-Fi router as an AP and put it near the door, have the Connect use the AP for Wi-Fi connection. This time, the readings from the app are SNR 57, Signal -42. Even better "Great". And with that, now it takes about only 5 seconds for the Smart Lock to respond to remote lock/unlock commands.
I wish this device comes with an Ethernet port for hard wiring - that should make the device even more reliable. Otherwise I would give it a 5 star.
I did not keep this product after learning that my Apple TV perform the same function. No longer needed this add'l accessory.

This is from my review of the August HomeKit lock:
We ordered two HomeKit versions of the locks, the camera/doorbell and the keypad.
1. The lock itself is HUGE. Not very attractive even if the finish matches other hardware. It operates smoothly and unlocks as it should when you're nearby. Still the knob was too large for my wife's hand. You must have a deadbolt installed as the August lock is a retrofit only including the rear part of the lock.
2. Each lock requires its own August Connect to act as the gateway between the Bluetooth and wireless connections. Each Connect must be within 20 feet of the lock which isn't always easy as there may not be electricity in the entryway. The Connect is required if you want to view or control the state of the lock remotely.
3. The Keypad is simple and does its job as expected.
4. The camera/doorbell is a total mess. Setup is easy but it goes offline frequently; sometimes it will come back online but more often than not, it will just stay offline. There was a "secret" way to reset the camera in the iOS software but, apparently, it no longer works after an update. This is a problem because if the camera is offline, you have to remove it from the wall which means having to remove the security screw; not an easy task. Then, you have to push the reset button and reverse the process. Picture is clear and the voice is easy to understand on both ends. It does include a wedge for doorbells close to the door.
5. In addition to the fact that you can't reset the doorbell in the iOS software, you can't do a lot because there is NO documentation. You would think that shipping their locks for a couple of years, they would have some documentation even online. The only support is the FAQ and installation video for each product. There's a lot to be customized but just try figuring out how to get there. Beyond that, contact support.
6. Support is decent. Submit a ticket and you're promised you'll be contacted by the next day. Each time, I waited 24 hours and then called them directly because I hadn't heard from anyone. The only phone number access will be sent to you in a receipt for your support ticket.
I have given up on August as a viable solution after waiting for months for a promised delivery. It was a waste of time and I replaced the August system with a Kwikset Kēvo which had an easier setup. One has to buy a Bluetooth Gateway but one is sufficient for multiple locks. It doesn't have a keypad but two real keys, two e-Keys (additional e-Keys are $0.99) and a key fob. In addition, I installed a Ring Pro and Ring Cameras. All-in-all, a much easier installation and they work flawlessly. In addition, the Ring and Kēvo work together so I can unlock the door from the Ring app.

If you are looking to control your lock remotely, you will need this device. Otherwise you will only be able to lock, unlock and check the status when you are in range of the lock. I bought this separate from the lock thinking I didn’t need it. Wrong LoL

I purchased this August wifi bridge as an add-on accessory to my new August lock. Setup takes a little bit of patience and required that I go to August's website for more information. Included instructions are very limited. Many people complain about having connection issues, but I haven't experienced any; however, I have an outlet that has line of sight to my door and is only about 10 feet away. I recommend that you do some additional research to see if this bridge will work for you if you don't have an outlet near your door. My biggest complaint is that you need the wifi bridge to access your lock when you're away from home. The convenience of having an August lock is being able to give access to your home when you're not home; however, this is only possible after you spend a large amount of money on the deadbolt and then another large amount of money to buy the wifi bridge. It is a must have to get the most out of an August lock though.

This works great with august lock system. I saw som bad reviews somewhere but you have to read instruction in detail for this to work. E.g do not open app again in front of your door if you want door to unlock, also if your phone dies or you reset your door won't auto open when you get close to door. Need to have app running in background, works amazing with echo/Alexa. T won't open the door using voice but locks door with no issues, good security feature if not anyone loud enough can unlock your doors.

I bought my August lock first and found out that I wouldn't be able to control or view away from home.
Positives:
This allows you to control your lock outside of your home network. it is also easy to set up.
Downsides:
The wireless integration on the app isn't perfect. you have to select the wireless button every time you want to unlock/lock outside of your network. Also this has to be plugged in as close to the lock as possible. There can be no obstructions otherwise the reception is less than satisfactory. Wish this wireless feature was integrated into the lock itself.
Overall:
This is necessary if you want to control your locks away from home, but extremely overpriced for its function.
