What you buy when you don't want reliability
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So I purchased the red lock and while this was done during a long cross country move while building the new home I have no idea where I bought this thing (Pretty sure the builder did it and bought at Best Buy) but I have no receipt except closing papers on the house. Anyway -- I had the doorbell, the lock, the conect, and the keypad. The whole system. I had to remove the doorbell because it was never working - possibly one out of 10 times I would get an alert of someone at the door but by the time I was able to answer, if i got the alert, the person was already leaving. I had to uninstall the doorbell cam because what is worse than having someone come to the house to knock on the door to see if you are home? Well, worst is they see the camera and don't get a response -- Deefinite nobody home and nobody watching. So to the lock -- It has worked quite well after several support calls. The keypad has been replaced twice and I finally got a good one although the batteries last a short time. NOW THE LOCK -- I had an app update a couple of weeks ago and the app wanted me to log back in. It wouldn't accept my password. Has to have me reset the password etc. Do that and the reset does not work. Wait a day or two thinking there is a tepmporary issue with the servers etc. Try again, reset password, nothing works. Call tech support who tells me there is an issue with my email and phone being on two accounts. Said it would take a few days to correct and I should try it again in a few days. Fast forward a couple of weeks -- the lock and keypad are functioning fine but the app will not. I am now told the lock is bad and needs replaced. I have no way of knowing the truth - because if the bluetooth was not working the darned keypad wouldn't either, right? I'm waiting on a level 2 tech call which was supposed to come a half hour ago. Still no call. So they break the app and I cannot get things to work with my phone (which they previously said was the problem but subsequently it worked) For the $500 or so I have invested in their garbage I wish I could take it all back and start over. Support can help if it is a simple small issue but stump them and you are out the large sum of $$ spent. At this point I do not expect August to redeem themselves whatsoever and I can just imaging what a debacle their Air B&B services must be. Do yourself a favor and skip all August products - and don't think the August replies which are sugar sweet get anything done. They are merely a way to try to save face and continue selling products that kinda work.................. unless they want to prove me otherwise at which point i will update the reviews I have done.

doesn't work if the power is out

What good is a door lock that doesn't work when you are coming home in a storm during a storm and the power is out? Not any!

Posted .Sorry to hear of any issue you had. August runs on 4 AA batteries and is not affected by any power outage as it does not connect to your home power in any way. Posted .Hello Whathappen, August will alert you when your batteries are at 25% and continue to alert you. This should give you plenty of time to change them before they actually die. Let us know if you have any other questions.

August Lock Doesn't Work (and company doesn't care

One lock was never able to register and the other two worked sporadically and finally not at all. How many times did I find myself locked out of the house in the cold or rain? Too many times! Also, the backs fall off so now the lock at my house sits on the door doing nothing and it looks ugly because the back is off and the batteries show. How did this product get released? I noticed that the company has lowered the price. I wouldn't take another August Lock if it was free.

bluetooth never works

Helps with groceries, and my dog!

My iOS app and August Lock Communicate with each other, and it's effortless. The apps seem to bug out on me sometimes, but I'm sure the team will work on those.

Inconsistent operation, poor support

When I installed it the auto unlocking worked maybe 1 out of 10 times and the key was difficult to turn when unlocking, it felt like you were going to break the key. I then purchased the wifi connect so we could control it remotely, but this turned out to be a hit or miss operation as well. The lock then started to auto unlock while I was home, at midnight, 3am, 6am, etc.. I called August for help, and didn't get any. They said Maybe i was in-between cell towers and nothing could done on their end. I adjusted the geo fence settings at their suggestion, but it kept randomly unlocking the door while i was home. I've removed it and it's too late to return, so I'm stuck with an expensive lesson. Don't buy this lock if you're looking to secure your home.

The latch and latch hole must be perfectly aligned

I purchased it in hopes to get into smart home tech when it all first began. Unfortunately, this lock and many others, require the door to close perfectly on its own. As soon as you shut the door it’s supposed to align perfectly with the door jam latch and not need any more pulling while you’re latching it for it to work. In other words, the lock can’t close the door tighter when you latch it. Because this lock relied on the latch hole and door latch to be perfectly aligned so when you press “povk” it just slides into place.
