A Great Headset

The Corsair HS55 is a great choice when looking for a premium quality sounding headset that looks good and doesnt break the bank. The sound quality is awesome, whether its the voice chat of your squad mates or the music from you favorite games or just the footsteps of the enemy in your match it all sounds great on this headset. The headset is light and the soft padding is comfortable, so no worries about feeling like your head is getting squeezed by a tight fit or feeling irritated after a few hours of wearing them. I'm a huge fan of the aesthetics of this headset, the Carbon (black) color and minimalist/sleek design make it a very good looking headset. The compatibility of the headest makes its easy to use on whatever device your using, I tested the headset on my Alienware M15 and PS5, and had no issue with audio or connectivity on either device. It is a wired headset so if for some reason you dont have a 3.5mm audio port on your device, maybe you're using an ultra slim pc ir whatever, the headset also has a USB to 3.5mm adapter so that you can connect it. Overall, I highly recommended the Corsair HS55 and its my main set for my gaming on my PC.

My desktop setup features a Corsair keyboard, mouse, and mousepad, and I have been quite satisfied with them. Now, I can complete the set, hoping that the HS55 will be a worthy addition.
Aesthetically, I enjoy the matte black finish. It attracts no fingerprints or smudges, and the radial-reflective cups remind me of a vinyl record. Also, the subtle branding compliments the sleekness. Although this is a “gamer” headset, it does not feature any RGB, which I am thankful for once, as I can take it to the office, or use it on business video calls.
Since the HS55 are made almost entirely of plastic, except for the headband’s slider, it feels very much like a budget set. The headband does not have a lot of flex, and the swivels seems plasticky and slim. I am a bit concerned about durability in the long run. The pleather covering the headband and ear pads feel of decent quality, though, and I absolutely love the volume rocker; it feels great and it’s in a good place.
The mostly plastic build allows for the set to be quite light and comfortable to wear. The plush headband padding and the memory foam earpads are super soft, and my ears never touched the inside drivers or rubbed against the pads. There’s good clamping, but it is not headache inducing. After wearing them for a long 4 hours of gaming, the only issue I had was that the sides did get somewhat hot and a bit sweaty, so be prepared to clean them up after an exciting session.
The HS55 are very versatile when it comes to connectivity. Of course, I was able to connect them to all my consoles via the 3.5mm jack on the controllers or handheld. One major feature is that these cans come with a USB-A sound card, which allows for simulated Dolby Audio 7.1 surround sound when plugged to a PC (via Corsair’s iCUE software). The volume rocker is independent from the device, so volume must be set first on the source, including PC.
Out of the box, I was pleased with the default sound signature. Using the 3.5mm cable, I would describe the sound as more mid-forward, rather than bass heavy. However, the bass was still impactful enough and had enough “umph” to make action-adventure games and content exciting. As I mentioned, the mids are pushed slightly forward, making dialogue, background music, and ambient sounds feel more natural. The treble was also slightly pronounced, and that added clarity and a sense of accuracy. The channel separation is excellent, making figuring out where sounds come from much easier (left or right). The soundstage is a bit limited in my opinion, but still expansive enough to picture sounds’ distance and positioning. The headset seems to be tuned more for action-competitive games such as FPS and racing, where directional cues and clarity are most important.
Plugging in the USB-C card, the sound signature improved noticeably. The 50mm drivers became much louder. Just in case the default sound is not to your liking, you can adjust the EQ, or activate Dolby Surround via the downloaded iCUE software. Dolby Surround is handled very smoothly with the HS55. It does not overload the bass nor mute the mids. It makes watching content and playing one-player games more pleasurable in my opinion.
When it comes to music listening, they are simply alright. There is some lack of clarity and some distortion at higher volumes and while they may not satisfy those critical listeners, I found them quite enjoyable for causal listening to a BGM channel while I work.
Now, the microphone may be the star of the show. While the mic’s design language may not win everyone’s approval, as it hangs a bit awkwardly when out or lifted, and is not as flexible, it certainly delivers in call quality. The mic captures my voice loud and clear, making my voice sound natural and full. While people could still hear my mechanical keyboard, it did not become distracting. Perhaps a dedicated mic may be better, this is the next best thing. Plus, the lift-to-mute works well and sidetone is decent. My only wish is to have had a game/mic volume control rocker.
In the end, this is a fantastic budget gaming headset in my opinion. While it does not feature all the bells and whistles, it does not need them, as it checks all the right boxes: comfort, audio, and comms.

had high hopes for this headset as everything else from Corsair I have is great. Unfortunately, as soon as I took it out of the box, just feeling it felt cheap. The plastic feels cheap, and the ear coverings feel cheap, so an extremely poor impression to start. The one pleasant thing about it is that it is light, so I was wondering if it would sound any good as other light headsets I have had do not.
That sound was the one bright spot. I am not an audiophile, but I have had back ear buds or headphones and know when they do not sound right to me. I was surprised that when playing games it actually sounded decent, and I tried out a few vidoes and it was fine too.
Outside of the general build quality feeling cheap, the other odd thing is how you connect it to your PC. It essentially has a 3mm plug like you use headphones that are not for a PC, but then an extra USB plug that you plug in there. The nice thing is I can use the headset on other devices, but for me at least I usually just play and don’t take my PC headset away from my PC. Due to this setup, iCue and the ability to control the headset really doesn’t do much. Sure you see the headset in iCue but you cannot do anything with it outside of see it there.
Overall its not a horrible headset but if you’re looking for a PC gaming headset there are better options out there. If you want to use it for PC and other devices, this is OK, but that’s not the way I use it.

Amazing value for PC gamers

The Corsair HS55 Surround headset is a huge bargain for a PC gaming headset. You don't get a lot of fluff at this price, but Corsair has made sure you get everything you need to get a quality audio accessory. The HS55 at its core is a stereo headset with a USB dongle which unlocks Dolby 7.1 sound processing via the Corsair iCue software. For devices like the Nintendo Switch you can plug the headset straight into the headphone out and get great stereo sound.
The good: The surround experience is excellent and the overall sound quality of the Corsair HS55 is far and away the best I've heard anywhere close to this price. There's plenty of bass but not so much that things seem unbalanced, and the midrange and highs sound great, as well. Too many headsets at low prices just focus on overly boomy bass, to the point their inexpensive plastic designs can't handle the rumble and end up adding reverb and rattle to the sound. Not the case with the HS55.The mic got great reviews from my coworkers when I used it for meetings in the last few days, as well. Comfort is very good with soft cushions that don't put a ton of pressure on my glasses, as well as a padded headband with the same soft foam.
The bad: Not much to complain about, but the biggest complaint I have is the relatively short cable. It's about 2 meters and I wish it was at least a half meter longer. Another complaint that doesn't affect me as I already have a Corsair keyboard, but having to download iCue just to control the surround and EQ settings is a pretty hefty software package to download if you have a smaller SSD and slow internet. So that's something to keep in mind if you want to use the surround dongle.
Definitely a two thumbs up product for me. If you want a big step up in sound quality from competitors at low prices, I can't imagine going wrong with the HS55.

Without the USB, just basic comfy headphones

For anything that has a 3.5mm port, these are just straight out headphones with a mic. Simple volume knob and flip up mic. The padding is comfortable for hours. I have been mostly using them while playing in VR as the attached rubber cord keeper helps keep the excess wire out of the way. The rest of the features come on a PC when using the USB to 3.5mm adapter and with iCue software installed. There you have voice prompts when features are enabled/disabled, adjust the equalizer and take advantage of Nvidia Broadcast technologies provided you have an Nvidia RTX2060 or higher.
Overall sound quality is decent, it sounds very balanced. It doesn’t have the “ear tickling lows” that I have had on other sets, even with the bass boost equalizer setting in iCue. But, it’s not like it is missing as you can certainly still hear the difference in range. Even noticed in one game I have been playing, a sound effect I wasn’t noticing on my other headset that was a very faint metallic sound on certain events. In using an audio test I was able to still hear the voice at 66 dB below full sound which is pretty impressive as my hearing might not be able to hear much less than that anyways. If you like simple wired headphone/mic with the ability to get 7.1 Dolby style effects on a PC, this is certainly one I would consider.

Adds a whole new Dimension to your Game

The Corsair 7.1 Surround capability included with this HS55 headset really makes a massive difference. When playing War Thunder you actually hear the planes flying overhead and the tanks along side of you at the same time. Sounds no longer are just left and right, they are much more dimensional. It adds a whole new level of realism when gaming. I only have two negatives about these headphones. The first is that the microphone sits on a fairly long arm that is bendable. To mute the microphone you push the mic arm up which is very convenient. The downside is when I bend the arm to give me the best voice quality it hits my glasses or my head when I try to push it up to mute it. So I have to rebend the mic arm if I use the mute feature every time. The second issue is one that I expected which is because the ear cups are full wrap they can get warm over time. After about two hours I have to take them off to cool down my ears. Overall the sound quality of 7.1 surround makes these a game changer for anyone who games.
Performance: I got this primarily for gaming at night but I found myself using them even during the day due to the 7.1 sound enhancements while gaming. To get the 7.1 sound you need to use the USB attachment included with the headset. The downside is that this has to connect directly to the computer, you can’t plug the headset into your game controller’s 3.5mm jack and get the 7.1 sound quality. I compared the stereo effects using the standard 3.5mm jack in my computer to using the usb and 7.1 audio. I was really surprised by how much the sound improved due to the directional separation of the sounds. Instead of just hearing a boom in my right ear I now heard a boom to the front right. Basically it made the sound directional which made the overall game much more realistic. While playing Forza Horizon I could actually hear the rain on the roof and windshield in front and above while hearing the water sounds on the tires back and below. In FPS games this really does help because you aren’t just reacting to sounds left or right. The sound placement isn’t perfect every time but its much better than playing in stereo. The headset has a volume control on the left ear cup and the microphone arm works as mute switch in the up position. The overall audio quality is quite good and the equalizer lets you customize it to your taste. Note that I use Corsair’s iCue with my PC so setting up the headphones in iCue was simple for me. In iCue you can install Nvidia’s Broadcast which cuts down on the ambient room noises. Using this feature I found that the voice volume is slightly lower than normal so you have to boost it in the app. Also in iCue you can also choose from 5 preset Equalizer settings or create a custom one to match your gaming requirements.
Fit: These headphones have very large foam ear cups that allow your ear to sit inside the cups. The leatherette covering on the ear cup is soft so it conforms to your skin and the foam on the top support is thick enough to keep you from feeling the plastic band. Overall I like the fit but because the ear cups are closed they do get a tad warm with long gaming sessions. The pull down microphone is moldable to better align with your mouth. I had to move mine fairly close to get the quality and volume level needed. The downside with this is that when I would push the microphone up to mute it I would end up hitting my glasses or head due to the curvature of the arm. The headphones come with a 6’ cord so you can sit some distance from the computer.

It’s hard for me to imagine getting more value out of a headset than this HS55 from Corsair. From the sound to the simple, sleek, minimalist design, this checks a lot of boxes for me.
Of course, if you make a headset for gaming, it has to deliver on sound, which the HS55 does easily. Not only does it sound good with Dolby 7.1 surround support but it gets plenty loud without distortion.
Even better, the only adjustment that you usually need to worry about is right at your fingertips. I prefer to manage my chat audio/game audio through the game UI rather than having separate adjustments for both. So not having a separate adjustment for chat audio is not a huge loss for me.
The design is simple and minimalistic with good materials. Is it bomb-proof? Not at all; but it’s a sturdy as you’ll need it to be. It’s easy to adjust to size and you don’t get the sense that you’re going to break something when you’re doing it.
Sure, it could be wireless, it could have 17 different controls, RGB, noise-canceling, etc. etc. but, let’s be honest, those things are NOT the foundation of a good headset, they are perks. So, if you want a great headset without breaking the bank, you’ve found it.

Light As Air Headset with Great Sound to Pair

I have been a fan of Corsair headsets for a few years now. I was the person who would have said that there is no difference between music headsets and gaming headsets. However, Corsair understands comfort that I need when playing a video game like Fornite or PubG for a few hours.
The faux leather ear cushions are the win for me! I have had the cotton type of ear cushions and believe it or not but it makes me feel like my ears are sweating. I totally am a convert to leather type ear cushions and it's a must for future headsets for me.
The setup was fairly quick and since I have iCue for my other devices it was a seamless setup and easy install for accessing the Dolby features. I was able to play a little Phasmaphobia (ghost hunting game) and I could hear the footsteps, breathing, and creaks in the houses as I explored the different levels. So you can use the USB adapter to access the Dolby features for the games or you can plug in the aux end to the computer. It is really a personal preference. The volume dial on the ear cuff is easy to control and muting yourself happens by lifting the microphone arm up.
The design is true to Corsair staples. I like that it is all black with a matte finish, and the ear pieces have the Corsair logo in this gunmetal color.
The actual headset itself is light so you won't feel it weighing you down while you play, there is a rubber cord management component on the wire so when you store it you can roll it up and secure it.
Overall, a great set of gaming headphones for anyone who is averse to having to charge their headset. I usually don't care of wired headphones but the wire is so thin that you don't even know it is there when you are playing on the PC.
My only bit of feedback was that the microphone was not as crisp as my wireless headset but it was a minor adjustment for my friends on the different games we played.

7.1 Surround from a comfortable headset w/mic

When shopping for that perfect headset, comfort takes center stage. Next comes sound quality as well as the ability to record or transmit my voice from a better than average microphone.
The HS55 by CORSAIR with its ability to produce Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound does all three within my budget. The headband is adjustable and hold the soft ear cuffs to my head without feeling like I'm clamped in a vise. This also helps filter out ambient noise.
The microphone with its omni directional mic faithfully reproduces my voice whether barking out orders to my smart home assistant, fellow gamer, TEAMs online group or voiceover for online training media.
Need to mute the microphone, just flip up the mic and its muted. Handy when the neighbor's dog start yelping in the background. The boom is slightly bendable for a comfortable fit. You can also adjust its sensitivity via the iCUE software or windows built in driver in settings.
iCUE free from CORSAIR, allows one to with from two channel stereo to Dolby Surround Sound 7.1. I'm not sure if it truly can provide Spatial Sound or ATMOS, but my PC can support this. When used as a gaming headset, World of Tanks Blitz, you get the feeling you can sense (hear) the roar of tanks coming up from behind you. That's a real advantage when your rear flank is in jeopardy.
Bringing great video realism together with an awesome sound experience is what todays gamer has come to expect and the CORSAIR HS55 delivers.

TLDR
The H55 is great very affordable 7.1 gaming headset that is plug and play out of the box. If you have a nVidia graphics card, install the iCue software and get even better results. The 3.5mm attachment means it works on all devices, but a Windows PC and using the included USB dongle is needed for 7.1.
Full Review
Love this Corsair H55, it's a great headset and I am super impressed with the 7.1 audio quality - something you will really enjoy the immersive audio experience if you play Valorant or CoD. The 'magic' comes from the USB adapter included in the box, which is plug n play with Windows and will show the headset as a different device (see pics). You must use the USB dongle to get the 7.1 audio.
Voice quality is great. No complaints from any one I spoke to, Corsair rate this as "Discord Certified", audio was clear on Discord, but also smooth on in game chat as well.
The Microphone flips up to mute but is not multi-drectional, so if you don't like the mic. on the left, this may be for you - fortunately I'm good with the mic. on the left. There's a volume control dial behind the mic. The mic is not removable.
Build quality is good for the price, this doesn't have the weight of a top-end headset, but looks nice, has great padding on the headband, and the silver accents are a nice touch. There's no RGB lighting, but to be honest, I'm not a fan of RGB on headsets - what I want is good sound and clear audio, which the Corsair H55 headset absolutely delivers.
If you install the free Corsair iCue software it unlocks some extra fine tuning controls for bass, treble, etc. If you have an nVidia graphics card, it will also prompt you to download nVidida Broadcast AI noise cancellation and tell you the H55 is compatible with Windows 11 Spatial Audio (see screenshots). Definitely worth getting the nVidia AI noise features to level the H55 up a notch. FYI, the Corsair iCue software really is one of the best controller software on the market. So it's worth downloading.
If there are any limitations with the headset its that the cord is rubber (I personally prefer braided material) and the leatherette-style ear covers did make my ears warm after a few hours of gaming. Not a negative, just worth knowing in case you have a preference. But in terms of overall value, the H55 is very hard to beat.

The Corsair HS55 Surround 7.1 stereo gaming headset at first may look like an ordinary gaming headset and really won’t scream “Buy me!” At first glance you really won’t be impressed with its plasticky build with a flexible and foldable boom mic. Added to that is the volume dial and a 3.5mm jack. A USB adapter is included which I prefer so I’d get a digital signal (as if my untrained ears can really notice the difference.) The gaming headset has around the ear muffs which makes for decent sound isolation too plus the fact that these are quite comfortable. Again, there is nothing really notable here.
But what turned me on is the sound quality. I’ve had several gaming headsets from other popular brands and for a mid-tier headset, I would say I am blown away with the sound of this headset. While I really haven’t maximized its audio capabilities (I use an eight year old gaming rig) I would say that the audio is superb. First volume is much louder compared to other headsets I have. On top of that it offers a much wider sound space compared to your basic stereo headset. And I must admit I really haven’t tweaked my sound settings and I’m just using the default RealTek driver settings, and yet I am amazed with the sound signature. Although I cannot say I am wowed with the sound when watching Netflix. But then again this is a gaming headset. I’ve also tried this with Zoom (I don’t use Discord or such) and sound is pretty much good and the microphone works well. There is no mute button but if you fold up the microphone, the mic is muted.
Overall, I would recommend this for casual gamers as this is a mid-level headset. I also believe this can also suffice for more serious gamers. This id definitely worth considering.
