Excellent basic desktop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent entry-level desktop with good specs that should be more than adequate for the average non-gaming user. The 13th gen Core i5 with 8 GB RAM gives nice smooth performance throughout setup and daily usage. The 512 GB SSD is by no means enormous, but should provide more than enough storage for most people. There are quite a few ports, so an additional USB hub probably won't be necessary: 4 USB-A 2.0 ports, 3 USB-A 3.2 ports, one USB-C 3.2 port, one SD card reader, one Ethernet port, one HDMI 1.4b port, and one DisplayPort 1.4. Expansion slots include a PCIe x16 and PCIe x1 slot, both full height. Although it's less necessary these days, it's still nice to have the DVD-RW drive, which is typically not available on most laptops. Build quality of the chassis is solid, with a pleasing texture. The main unit is also somewhat compact, so it won't completely dominate a desk. The included wired keyboard and mouse are both extremely basic and feel cheap -- the keys are mushy and don't provide much haptic feedback. Definitely get your own 3rd party keyboard and mouse. The computer comes with Windows 11 Home installed, and thankfully doesn't have much bloatware. (I think there was some Cyberlink PowerDVD software, but to be honest, I'm not sure if that was automatically installed when I set the PC up using an existing Microsoft account -- but easy enough to uninstall anyway.) One thing I didn't appreciate was an automated prompt during Windows setup for the preinstalled McAfee Antivirus, which defaulted to accepting the terms and starting a free trial. I don't like McAfee or any other preinstalled antivirus programs besides Windows Defender (which generally does as good a job), partly because of these sneaky tactics, and partly because they tend to bog down the system. So read this part of the setup carefully, and make sure to skip it if you're not interested (and then uninstall the program after setup is complete).

Great for Basic Home/Work Use, Not for Gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for a basic home PC for surfing the web, visiting social media sites, basic office functions like MS Office or some light graphics work, CAD or 3D modeling (Sketchup) and you are not very technically inclined, this could be your PC. Dell is good at hand holding new users, providing guides on how things work and providing updates. After the initial setup and updates, the PC starts up quickly and opens programs in the blink of an eye. It’s very fast for the things I mentioned earlier. For more demanding programs or any major multitasking, this PC will need a memory upgrade. It can easily be doubled to 16 GB as there is an open DDR4 slot. Other upgrades are not so easy. Do not expect to play modern video games with this PC as its graphics are integrated into the CPU and not on a dedicated graphics card. You cannot upgrade to a gaming worthy graphics card because the power supply is too small and it does not provide the additional power connectors required for the upgrade. Additionally, the power supply is not a standard size so it cannot be replaced with an off the shelf power supply. The PC is very light and easy to set up if you know what you are doing. However, the PC I received had no setup guide. The only paper in the box had warranty information. I had to go online to get to the manuals. The PC came with a basic, wired mouse and keyboard and a power cable. You will need to supply a compatible monitor and a monitor cable. The PC has both an HDMI port and a DP (DisplayPort). I was able to set the PC up with two (2) 24” - 1080p monitors, side by side, without issue. Software wise, this little PC doesn’t come with much. First, the operating system is Windows 11 Home. I like how Windows 11 looks and works for the most part. However, the start menu is very different from previous versions of Windows. I like the Start Menu on Windows 10 better and wish there was a way to go back but I’m getting used to 11. Just be aware there is a learning curve. The worst thing about Windows 11 is that it forces you to create a Microsoft account, even if you don’t’ want one. If you skip it during setup, which I was able to do, an update will force it later. There are also a bunch of Dell Utilities and trial versions of MS Office 365 and McAfee Malware Protection. That’s pretty much it. Some technical details and additional notes about the PC: (note: specs may differ from PC to PC. This is what I received) The processor is a Core i5-13400 and is a very fast lower to mid-range processor. The storage drive is a 512 GB Micron 2400 NVMe. It has QLC memory with midrange speed around 4,700 MB/s read (very good) and 1,800 MB/s write (good). QLC is not recommended for heavy use but is typically fine for general, home use PC’s. Dell is usually pretty good at providing room and accessories for adding additional drives. There is space in this PC for an additional drive and they provide the additional connectors, but, when I tried to add a 2.5” SSD, I could not get the screw holes on the SSD to align with the holes on the PC designated for a drive upgrade. I was however, able to rig something with some rubber standoffs and screwing through the mesh on the front of the PC. This is the main reason I deducted a star from my rating. The memory is a single 8gb, 3200 MHz stick of Kingston DDR4 RAM. It looks like their ValueRam line but it is not labeled as such. This leaves some room for an upgrade as there is an available slot. The power supply is small and not a standard size that I’m aware of. It’s only 180 watts so it will limit the upgrades that can be attempted. There are 2 available PCIe slots in the PC for additional upgrades. However, there are no additional PCIe power connectors. A video card that requires extra power will not be able to be used in this PC. Opening the PC is easy enough. Dell is very good at making tool-free cases that are easy to open and work in. The thumbscrews used to secure the side panel are captive so you can lose them. Do I recommend this PC? I would for people that do not need anything fancy. For its intended customer, it is a really good PC. If you are looking for a gaming system or if you do a lot of multitasking (i.e. – a lot of widows open) or use very demanding software (rendering, Photoshop, etc.) this is not the PC for you…

Great light-duty PC with some expansion room!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dell Inspiron 3020, i5 13th gen, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, DVD RW Quick Overview ================================= At just 13" x 6" x 12", this Dell Inspiron 3020 is a compact, all-purpose computer that has a bit of room for expansion. If you need a computer for everyday tasks, some office work, and you don't want to spend too much, this might be a good fit. Overall build ================================= The Dell Inspiron line is not one of their higher-end lines like XPS or their Alienware gaming line, so it's typically a lighter, plastic build with components that aren't top-of-the-line. When I say that, I don't mean it in a bad way since not everyone needs a gaming computer with expensive components and RGB lighting. The case is pretty sturdy with all-metal sides/rear panel and a textured plastic front panel. Personally, I like the contrasting ridges and the size makes it easy to fit wherever you might need to add a general purpose PC. I tested it out next to my desk (on the floor) and on an Ikea shelf in a closet (though not super-low power consumption, it could be a good home server). On the front, you get a DVD R/RW drive(!) that could be handy for archiving any old backups you might have had or even ripping some of your music CDs to digital. It's a bit rare to have an optical drive these days but I don't mind since it's a slim, laptop-style drive that might come in handy. As for ports, you'll get 3 USB-A ports and a USB-C port that unfortunately doesn't support a display technology (alt-DP, etc.) so my Lenovo ThinkVision USB-C only monitor wouldn't work. You also get a card reader (nice for backing up your DSLR photos) and a combo headphone jack. On the rear, you'll see an audio line-in, and HDMI and DisplayPort for video out. Note the HDMI seems to only output 1080p (tested on a 4k and QHD), but the DisplayPort happily puts out up to 4k in my testing. Keep that in mind if you need to push more pixels and make sure you have a DisplayPort cable handy! Rounding out the ports on the rear are 4 more USB-A ports and an RJ-45 jack for Ethernet. At the bottom, you'll see the plug for the power supply. Getting into the chassis is easy since Dell provides two thumbscrews that just need to be loosened (yay for no tools required) to slide off the side panel. Once you're inside, you'll see that there's plenty of room for expansion, but that also depends on your needs. For example, yes, there's a PCI-E slot for a more powerful GPU, but the power supply is only 180w so you'd be very limited in your choices. If you really want a gaming PC, look elsewhere. There's a large shroud over the CPU that allows all the hot air to blow out of the chassis. If you loosen some of the tucked in cables, you'll see there are actually 3 SATA power plugs and 1 SATA connector for data. This means you could add an internal hard drive right away (and one more since there's a spare SATA header on the motherboard), but there's no bay for the drive so you'd have to rig your own or just have it "stand up" in the free space. There's only one 8 GB stick of DDR4 RAM (less than 16 GB should not be allowed these days...) but it does leave room for you to add another stick if you need to. Performance ================================= If we're not benchmarking games (we're not), then we're just going to do a few subjective things like make sure things "feel" snappy, responsive and that you're not waiting for Windows 11 or whatever program you installed to respond. In my testing which included regular browsing, downloading updated drivers and utilities, copying large files (to a newly added internal hard drive) from a USB backup, nothing ever felt slow. I do know that this is not a graphical powerhouse with the integrated Intel graphics, so I didn't try to do anything taxing like Adobe Photoshop or any gaming. I think this would be a great PC for office-style work, general productivity, and whatever else you'd need if you don't need gaming or a powerful GPU for other reasons. A 13th Generation Intel i5 is plenty of power for any general task, but it's also a great (if not overkill) CPU for serving media in the home via any of the options out there (Plex, Emby) or acting as a backup server by adding a large internal hard drive. I wouldn't dedicate it to that task since there are lower-cost, lower power-draw options, but this PC could certainly pull double-duty as a office PC and your home backup server if you added a larger drive (or two). Conclusion ================================= Overall this is a great general-purpose PC for those that don't need a ton of performance nor a gaming computer. Yes, there are some expansion options, but you will be limited by the power supply. Yes, many PCs allow you to upgrade the power supply to support a more powerful GPU, but this is a small compact PC and power supply which is "non-standard". Again, if you're needing/wanting a dedicated gaming PC, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a good PC from a reliable company that can do your "everyday" tasks and have a little bit of expansion room, this Dell Inspiron 3020 is a good option.

Dell Inspiron 3020 Desktop/8gb 512 memory Excellen
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good desktop computer for children who is being Home School who need a removable disk component. They have everything you need and the speed and memory is excellent for my 2 children Home Study Program. They love it and the setting is easy to set. This computer can configurate with the Public Libraries if you need to drop your children off to the Library and monitor there work. I found out the hard way from a hacker trying to fraud me and my 2 children identities. If this is something you don't want to happen just block the hackers scripts in source. Trust me it will show up! Beside this the Cyberhack, this Desktop computer is great and lessor than a Mac.

This PC made my Christmas at work!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a replacement for a 6-year-old HP computer at work which had gotten v-e-r-y S-L-O-W. It helped with setup a little that this wasn't my first experience with a Windows 11 PC, as our office manager's PC and my current home desktop PC both run Windows 11. I still prefer how Windows 10 has a vertical list of installed programs, with a group of "frequently used" programs at the top; however, I can work around the lack of that feature by opening the 2 browsers I use daily from where they're pinned on the screen-bottom toolbar, right-clicking a recent MS Word document from Quick Access to open MS Word (a legacy version, installed from the original DVD-ROM on the optical media drive), and then going into All Apps to open the transcription software I use. I love how QUICKLY everything loads & opens on this PC, whether because everything's stored on an SSD instead of a hard drive, or just because it's that much newer a computer. I was able to transfer over everything of importance from my old PC using a portable hard drive. There are plenty of USB ports for whatever I wish to plug in (including my favorite wireless keyboard/mouse combo). The one difficulty I had during setup was that this PC tower only had connections for DisplayPort and HDMI monitors, so I had to swap out my old monitor for one of the spares in storage which had an HDMI connector. (The "new to me" monitor is an improvement over the old one in screen size & resolution, however, so the swap was worthwhile.) This was NOT purchased as a gaming PC (but don't tell the boss about the solitaire app I installed!). However, for productivity apps, Internet browsing, music & movie streaming, and LIGHT gaming (undemanding casual & older games only), it's great -- and one of the few new PCs you'll find at Best Buy with an optical media drive. Highly recommended!

Very pleased with this purchase
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided to replace a seriously compromised 10-year-old laptop with a desktop. I never moved the laptop off the desk anyway. This Dell Inspiron 3020 is gratifyingly fast, and the performance probably won't degrade much over time, because it has a solid state drive (SSD) instead of a spinning disc drive. Set-up was a breeze. Users should have no problems transitioning from Windows 10 to Windows 11, which is already loaded onto this machine. Personally, I appreciate the ability to connect a large monitor. This desktop meets and far exceeds my current needs.

The Best Computer I Have Ever Owned

The Dell Box
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A stylish box, the focal point of my office, against the background of book-selves and wall posters. That's my Dell. Its older sibling of thirteen years was getting old and hard of hearing my commands. Like every new arrival in my house, this Dell is welcome and appreciated despite the fact that its technical descriptors escape me. 13th Gen Intel Core i5? I know what generation means but I am not inclined to read up on what the previous twelve were about. I know that a gigabyte is a misspelling of giga-bite, which means a gigantic bite. This box has eight of those. Impressive! Best of all, it has a good memory, a memory that helps out my forgetfulness. In short, it is a wonder. If it had a voice, it would say: "I am here to serve you in more ways than you thought possible." Needless to say, I am happy with it.

The Dell Inspiron 3020 is just ..."fine".
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the Dell Inspiron 3020 desktop for about 2 weeks now and I must say that I am slightly disappointed. As a family and all purpose PC, it does a decent enough job of checking emails, word process, printing documents, browsing the web. For more labor intensive work, like graphic design, video editing and PC gaming, I feel like the i5 process is not well suited for such endeavors. However, I can say that the performance indeed matches its current price point. The desktop comes with a wired keyboard, wired mouse and a power cable...ONLY. This is an ideal option for anyone prioritizing affordability over performance. So much so that a Monitor, HDMI and DisplayPort cable are sold separately. Fortunately enough, I had my own monitor, HDMI & DisplayPort cables. While setting display resolution to 1440 @ 60hz worked well through an HDMI connection, i had the most problem when connected to the Display Port. While my monitor can do 240Hz at 1440p, the built-in graphics card had a tough time showing the background wallpaper. The 3020 had an even tougher time displaying games at 120hz on Game Pass Ultimate, even going as far as turning the screen black (only displaying the movement of the pointer). I would recommend that if you do purchase this to only use it for basic task and run it 1080p at 60hz through an HDMI 2.0 cable.

Great Replacement for HP Pavilion Windows7
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great replacement for a 2009 HP Pavilion running Windows 7. Solid State Drive is lightning fast compared to old Hard Drive mechanical memory. Practically no heat coming from this Dell CPU - compared to old HP that ran so hot that I always made sure the door to the cabinet that held the unit was open for ventilation. 512GB memory is plenty for home use. If you need more, it makes more sense to purchase an additional external storage drives are so cheap and available. Set up was easy and Geek squad was great in helping this Boomer get a few things straightened out in the early installation.

Dell Inspiron 3020
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After my old computer (8 years old) started slowing down it was time to get a new one. I knew that whatever I purchased had to have a ssd for faster boot times. This Dell Inspiron 3020 is everything I wanted and more! I just use it for everyday tasks such as web surfing, checking email, shopping, etc. but it is so much faster than my old computer. Set up was easy right out of the box. It has the latest usb ports and a usb c port on the front for connecting my external ssd drives. It also has a dvd drive, which very few have nowadays. All in all I am very happy with my new Dell computer, it makes accessing the web faster and easier. Also it was on sale during out tax free weekend here in KC.
