A Sci-Fi Flick That Can Explore Darker, Edgier and Grittier Themes

"District 9" is one of those movies that somehow I'd never gotten around to watching despite being a big fan of science fiction movies. I can now see why Neill Blomkamp is so revered by SF movie fans. This manages to feel like such an original story while simultaneously being a very blunt depiction of human society. I'm reluctant to say more because I don't want to give away any plot points. What I will say though is that I'm actually GLAD that I never saw this movie until viewing this 4K presentation. For a movie that was shot documentary-style on HD cameras, this is one of the clearest and most detailed 4K UHD transfers that I've seen. It looks closer to a native 4K movie than movies actually filmed in 4K. Similarly, the Atmos track--particularly the subwoofer channel--is extremely active and engaging. Everything about this A/V presentation helps to pull viewers into the action. Definitely recommended!

Loved this movie when it came out in theatres, and couldn't wait to get a copy of the Blu-Ray upon it's release. The Blu-Ray, in it's own right, is a good disc, but this 4K version is superior in every way. Detail in the costumes, sets, and especially the creatures are much imporved. The movie isn't particularly colorful, but the HDR usage here makes the colors pop and the black scenes are deep and inky. The new Dolby Atmos soundtrack is demo worthy..especially in the climactic action scenes. Is this version a reason to double-dip? Absolutely. It's a worthy upgrade in every way.

Taking a chapter from one of the darkest periods of South African history, Neill Blomkamp's District 9 is an insightfully weighty and masterfully told tale that remains just as entertaining a decade later. In fact, the inventively brilliant sci-fi actioner continues to surprise and feels all the more relevant and poignant today with its allegorical plot on systemic oppression and xenophobia. The sci-fi favorite crash lands on Ultra HD with an impressively beautiful 4K HDR10 presentation and a top-notch, reference-quality Dolby Atmos soundtrack, besting its Blu-ray counterpart. Although it doesn't really offer any new supplemental material to boast about, the overall UHD package is nonetheless highly recommended.

I haven't seen the movie in years so I had to jump on the black Friday deal. The picture Quality for me was just amazing. The shots that were supposed to look like older TV news broadcasts were spot on and the shots that were supposed to be live looked so crisp. I didn't see much if any grain in this film (not a grain hater though) and the graphics for the Prawns still looked as good as they ever did. It's such a fun movie you have to get it. As far as the audio I have a nakamichi 9.2.4 setup and it was a good mix. I didn't notice too much atmos going on but the overall experience was a blast. I only wish they would have made a sequel to this fantastic sci-fi classic.

this might sound like a joke to you, exaggerated maybe as well, but i did see this movie ...literally 9 times in the theater when i was in high school! its not a fresh air of a movie, but its a bunch of movie ideas put together into a great film! the alien designs and the cgi is FANTASTIC, it starts off as a documentary, its a little bit slow but as soon as "the thing" happens it starts picking up. and the action DOES NOT disappoint one bit. its surprisingly emotional too definitely pick this up! it even looks better on 4k

Just purchased a New Samsung 4K UHD 65" Q90T Q-LED TV and got a Samsung 4K UHD Blu-ray DVD player with a Samsung Q950T Surround Bar System and purchased this 4K UHD Movie as it is one of my many favorites. The ATMOS DTX surround sound and Picture are awesome! Like being in a Movie Theater, especially since theatres have been closed due to COVID-19. The 4K DVD was at a good price too during black Friday sales.

A sci-fi epic, that comes along once every decade, that really truly is an element and a testament to it's time. A great parable of the times and done very well. A sony 4k, so that always means quality, especially when it comes to audio impact, but due to the nature of the filming techniques deployed it may not seem nearly as earth shattering as other 4k catalogue releases. Still highly recommended.

Best ever sound Atmos sound movie from Peter Jackson i hope the lord of the ring sequel comes with the same Atmos sound FX, the details of District 9 movie clear picture outstanding colors and sound blow you head away with my NAKAMICHI 9.2.4 Sound bar i have seen this movie 5 times already LOL , if anyone is a sci-fi-holic buy this movie in 4K I REALLY RECOMENDED

An underrated movie made even better in 4k! Love UHD movies released in full screen ratio, and the mix of shots/perspective work well in this format. Special effects hold up well years later. However, one the biggest upgrades is the Atmos soundtrack. Weapons, vehicles, and alien sounds are phenomenal! Definitely worth the purchase!

Let's get this out of the way, the 4k version of District 9 offers some improvements over the blu ray but due to the way it's constructed and the amount of digital effects that were created at a 2k resolution for the film, it's not the best showcase for the format. It does offer delightful color imporvements thanks to HDR. That said, fans of Neil Blomkamp's allegorical debut sci-fi feature will gleefully lap up the improvements in presentation. It's an excellent film and one of the best science fiction films of the 2000s without a doubt.

Awesome movie with a great 4K transfer. This was shot in 2k I believe so the 4K picture is really good. The Atmos sound is great too and if you have seen District 9 you know what a great movie this is. I got this for $9.99 on Black Friday with a bunch of others. Just a killer deal!

I saw this move in theaters and absolutely loved it. Was excited that I could update from standard Blu Ray to 4k. The CGI isn't quite as sharp and detailed which makes it stick out a little. In the end it doesn't bother me too much and the movie was still a good watch.

District 9 is a great , graphic film. Prepare yourself for a rough ride. Great performances and special effects. Lots of action and bloody violence. The disc looks and sounds amazing.

The 4K version of this movie classic is a revelation. The picture and color and resolution are stunning, as is the greatly enhanced sound quality. The movie itself is just as fresh as when it was released, a true sci-fi classic.

Sony are the best in the industry in remastering their catalog movies in 4K and 'District 9' is no different - crystal clear image and a stunning LOUD Dolby Atmos remix that leaves you aurally shaken ~ highly recommended!

One of the best looking 4K transfers for a phenomenal movie. This is how it’s done. What a knockout. Although Elysium and Chappie are also great this is just hard to beat. So glad to finally own it on 4K. Buy it now and enjoy :)

It's admittedly been a while since I've seen it last, but what a brilliant film! Blomkamp's best. Heard there is going to be a new one, but not sure if it's prior to this or after it. Either way, I'm down.

Wow...this thing looks amazing! I was a huge fan of this movie when it was in the theaters...bought the dvd and bluray...didn't think it could get much better...but I was wrong. The 4k transfer is Dyn-o-mite.
