Your experience is not common; however, past observations of known cases indicate that the cookware might be adjusting to the heat being applied to it. Similar to what you have experienced, some consumers have reported a smell coming from the cookware, but without realizing that the open flame might be making contact with the handles and causing them to burn (if using a gas stove). These reasons may or may not pertain to your unique situation, and are just possible causes and feedback received in similar cases. We also want to reassure you that the cookware is non-toxic, but I understand how unpleasant a strong, toxic-like smell can be alarming.
