I’m a fan of the original Game & Watch so I love this edition for nostalgia. But with two versions of Super Mario, it’s sure to appeal to “younger” gamers. The animations in clock mode are so varied and surprising, it makes you want to watch it for 24 hours so you can see everything. XD. I like that there are two volume controls - one for game mode and one for clock mode. There are just a couple of issues that prevent me from giving it 5 stars. The speaker is ill-placed on the left side, right where you might tend to rest your index finger. At first I thought mine had a sound problem but it turned out I just kept covering the speaker. But I really disappointing thing for me was that it does not have the kickstand on the back like one I had in the 80s. I was really looking forward to displaying this on the headboard shelf.

I’ve had this game for a few years now and it’s still in great condition. No issues at all with the sound, buttons or screen. Not bulky at all. Great for road trips.

This device is fantastic - the quality and look of the plastic are great. Compared side-by-side to a Game & Watch device from 1983, it's like they've never stopped producing them. The buttons feel great to press, and the screen looks fantastic. Very bright colors and high pixel density. The battery lasts a very long time and charges via USB-C, so if you've already got a recent phone or tablet charger lying around, you can just pop this in, charge it once, and it'll keep its charge for a very long time.

Those of us who grew up with Nintendo know that their beginnings in the video game market began with the Game and Watch series of handheld games that were nothing more than a single game that was played on a one color LCD screen. The games themselves were very basic and limited to the technology of the current time but became a piece of gaming history for those of us who grew up during this era. Now 35 years later, we get to see two firsts in the gaming industry reborn for the newer generation of video gamers to enjoy or a trip down memory lane for veterans began their gaming career during the 80's. The original Super Mario Bros. is one of Nintendo's most memorable games that has been remade in other iterations throughout the years. It can be found on almost every other Nintendo system and seems a bit of overkill to have it made yet again in another portable form factor. The thing that sets this version of the game apart from all the others is that it has been recreated on the very first form factor that made Nintendo into the gaming giant it is today. And when the best of old comes together with current technology, it just feels so right. With that in mind, there are both good and bad things to say about this gaming device. After using this for a few weeks, this is what I like and don't like about it. What I do like: For someone who grew up playing the original Super Mario on almost a daily basis during my childhood, being able to play the game again on a recreation of the Game and Watch franchise brings back so many memories for me. The design of the Game and Watch Super Mario 35th anniversary edition feels like it did way back then when I used to play the original Game and Watch games of my childhood. The rubber buttons are still there like in the past and is almost a 1:1 copy of the first generation of games with the exception of the cross pad which is different from the four segment directional layout of the vintage Game and Watch models. It does make playing the game a little easier but due to the size, makes it a bit harder to play as well. it will take some getting used to. The game also has little animations and hidden, discoverable secrets that add to the value as well as a clock function which used to be a part of the original design. What I don't like: Size of the unit. I understand that they were trying to make these units look as authentic as possible, the size of the unit makes it a bit difficult to play as well as I can on a more traditional setup. The placement of the only speaker is also in a bad location and more times than not, my hand covers up the speaker hole which causes distortion of the game sounds. All in all, being able to play one of my favorite games on such an iconic piece of gaming hardware such as this seemed only like a dream up until now. You should definitely pick one up if you can get your hands on one. This will probably get more valuable as time goes on, and to own such a relic of the past is worth every penny to an older gamer like me.

I love this. I was really looking forward to the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2, which is what we have here along with the O.G. SMB 1. A huge advantage of playing a brutal game like SMB2 on a device designed specifically for it is the lack of input lag! Input lag is the time it takes for the effect of your button presses to actually show on the TV. A game like SMB2 requires PRECISE jumps. If there's excessive lag because of your NES emulator and monitor/TV (make sure it's always in game mode), you'll have a difficult time beating the game. The Game & Watch has its own inputs and screen, so there's almost no lag. This makes timing your turtle jumps (which you must master in SMB2) a lot easier. Some other cool things about the G&W that increase replay value: • You have to beat SMB2 without any warps if you want to unlock the secret world 9. If you make it to world 9-4 without losing a life, you get the Japanese easter egg at the end! • You have to beat SMB2 8 times to earn 8 stars (see my photo). However, you can jump straight to world 8 once you beat the game the first time by using the world select feature on the title screen. Once you beat it 8 times (and get 8 stars), you can unlock worlds A-D. • Hold down A when starting either game for infinite lives. This is MANDATORY when playing SMB2 for the first time. It's an extremely hard game, and you don't want to keep having to go back to the beginning of the world you're on. Just to recap, here are all the worlds in Super Mario 2: • Worlds 1 thru 8 • World 9 (you only get one life) • Worlds A-D I'm totally thrilled with the Game & Watch and am so happy I finally beat the dreaded Super Mario Bros. 2! After going through such a difficult game, SMB 1 is now like a baby's toy!

Excellent little game, battery lasts a crazy amount of time. Great display. clear bright, and the sound is loud. The brightness and volume can be adjusted as well. Came w super Mario 1&2 and an old time Mario as well. Also serves as a little pocket clock small enough to fit in your pocket. If you wanna be carrying it around. Only down side no screen protector.

If you’re interested in this, it’s probably worth $50 to you. You can get SMB1 and SMB2J (and G&W Ball) in other ways but that’s not the point. This is a micro console with tons of nostalgia value, plus solid controls and battery life. Get it before the scalpers get them all.

Love that Nintendo brought out this gem, it really reminded me on the days I used to play the Game and Watch devices! The games run great and the system is pretty well made. The only things that I wish Nintendo did was to include the Game and Watch version of Super Mario Bros. instead of Ball, and they should have included a kick stand that came with the original Game and Watch devices so we can use it as a table clock. Other than that this is a great trip to the past!

It's very cute and a nice mastalgia trip. I played for a few days then realized it made for a nice little clock. I plugged it in and I use it for a little table side clock now. It's pretty awesome! The only downside is I wish it came with all 3 NES Mario games. They're tiny little files, seems like it could have easily been done.

I had several game and watches as a kid, this is nice, but not quite the same. The old ones had stands so they could sit upright to display the time. The feeling is a little cheaper, too. More plasticy than the original ones from the early 1980s. That being said, it's still fun. Mario plays well on it, the screen looks great, and the fact I dont' need to buy button batteries all the time is a great plus.

Game & Watch looks beautiful and has two fun challenging games to play, along with Ball as a little bonus. The clock screen and animations are perfectly designed as well and it’s an awesome looking device overall. Only thing keeping it from being 5 stars is that the clock functionality is kinda useless since the screen turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity and there’s no way to prevent that unless the device is connected to the charger, and the cable is extremely short as it is.

Got it fast at Best Buy in Watertown. I thought I would like the games the best especially the Lost Levels but I ended up liking the watch and the little secrets the best. I keep it plugged in using USB-C next to my gaming laptop. Love it! Best birthday gift EVER!
