When reading the features for this machine, it appeared too good to be true for the price. A variety of controls for size, temp and wash cycles. Large capacity in a small footprint. Energy star rated estimating only 208 kWh per year. Had always used warm water and powdered detergent with my old machine. My daughter insisted on using cold water and powdered detergent with this machine. Purchased about a month ago and we are completely satisfied with its features and performance.

This Energy Star rated washer is a great value for the price. It's easy to use and has all the basic features, plus a few more. I like that you can select the load size (small - super) or it has a precise fill Auto-Load sensing feature which adjusts the amount of water needed accordingly and helps to conserve water. It's very quiet compared to other washers I've had. I definitely would recommend this product, especially to those tempted to pay a lot more for an HE washer.

Does a great job cleaning clothes and has lots of good settings for water temperature and agitator and spin speeds plus types of clothes, sheets, jeans, etc. GE states this is their quietest washer ever and that might be true for the "wash" cycles (I've never owned a previous GE washer). The agitator and wash is quiet. It makes the sound of someone slowly sawing plastic pipe with a hack saw. The rinse and spin cycles however are extremely noisy. The user manual states you will hear the "motor ramping up". It's more like the sound of a Navy F-18 taking off from a carrier. Our three cats now see us taking the laundry basket toward the washer and they all hide in closets and under sofas. We fear the day the washer ever goes out-of-balance; it might rip the house right off of the foundation.

Hello Hiker11823 - this is Nancy at GE. Thank you for your feedback regarding your washer. Please check that the shipping rod has been removed. It would be at the bottom right side of the washer if you are facing it. If it has been removed, and your washer is very loud in the rinse and spin cycles, we recommend contacting GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. Thanks for choosing GE!

Not as deep as most full size washers and fits in my limited space. My old washer (also a GE) lasted 18 years before it quit. Had to replace it and this is one of the only ones that would fit. Have used the washer for 5 weeks. Had trouble getting clothes clean until I followed the advise of GE Customer Service: (1) select “Super” load size; select “Power Rinse;” and (3) press “Pause” once the water fills to let the clothes soak for a while. These new style washers definitely work differently and you have to learn how to use them. Hope the washer lasts as long as my last washer.

This washer was a great price.. its supper quiet! Almost too quiet.. so far washes great.. but sometimes gets stuck in the fill cycle and constantly keeps filling and draining water. Not very water saving savy.. but once you restart it like a computer by un plugging, taking the wet cloths out and reloading it seems to work great. Dont swich any cycle modes once you push start or it will get stuck.. its taking some getting used to since my other washer was old school, but good buy.

Hello DottyB - this is Nancy at GE. We're glad to hear that your washer has been washing great. However, if it is feeling and draining at the same time, this indicates the drain hose is pushed too far into the drain pipe or that the drain hose does not come up a full 30" high before going into the drain pipe. The end of the drain hose has to have air so it will not siphon the water out while it's filling. I hope this information is helpful! Thanks for choosing GE!

Bought this one mainly because it is one of few top load washers that still have a agitator. Read several good reviews and have had no problems so far. Yes, it makes different noises and cycles do run longer but it cleans the clothes. Important features are ability to pick water level and a soak feature. Problems are you really cant open lid to add anything after start or it drains. Why do all the "new and improved" appliances have strange new quirks we have to deal with?

I had my Kenmore set for almost 20 years ( talk about getting your moneys'
worth! ) until my neighborhood was flooded. I had no idea how difficult it would be to choose a new set. I went through so many reviews and really didn't want a GE product or a HE washer. I did like the capacity and it was one of the few you could still choose the water level. It had become so tiresome looking I figured if I didn't like it I would just send it back. I love it ! It does take a little longer but I'm not the kind to be standing there when it stops anyway. The spin cycle is wonderful. It cuts down on drying time. If I was any shorter (5'6) though I'd need a step stool to get the clothes out :) I have not had any problems with the lid locking. Who's kid is getting stuck in the washer?!? I did get the extended warranty on my washer, not the dryer.

I bought this machine to replace an old Kenmore we had for 15 years that finally went to pot. This washer is quiet and cleans the clothes quite well. So far I have been satisfied with my purchase. There was two times the water wasn't spun completely out of the clothes even on extended spin. I think I figured out the issue though, the clothes might have been out of balance. Other than that it is a great machine. I wish though that it had an end of cycle buzzer as the loads do take a lot longer to wash compared to my old Kenmore.

Great Top Loader

I can't speak to long term reliability, but I have done 20+ loads since installation. I am comparing it to a previous top loader from Kenmore that I was satisfied with.
It cleans better than my previous machine and "dries" better, reducing the dryer time. It appears to use much less water. I do not use the auto sense water feature, because I can judge the size loads and some previous reviwers did not recommend it.
Pros: Large Tub, quiet operation, many cycle choices.
Cons: The length of cyles are not visible. Previous machines used a dial indicator. This machine uses lights to indicate the cycle.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the belief that front loaders are more efficient. If you want a top loader, this is a great buy.

I had a certain price range and this machine fit within the range. It is easy to operate. It's kind of loud and makes a wheezing or whistling sound. I don't think it fills up with enough water when using the auto fill option. The spin cycle works very well. Sometimes straps on shirts or ties on hoodies get caught in/under the agitator, which is not good!

A good basic washer. Unfortunately it broke down after 3 weeks. Best Buy first referred me to a local appliance service but then canceled that and referred me to GE service. So it took about 10 days to get someone to take a look at it. It was a simple repair: a pulley wasn't attached properly. The repair man made it seem like a common problem. How could it leave the factory in that condition? Don't they inspect the products they sell? Now it's working, but for how long?

Love this washing machine. Had to get used to putting the detergent in first, then the clothes. Love the choice of cycles, the size of the tub but especially love the automatic energy- efficient, self-filling water feature!
Washes so well, and wrings the clothes out so well, my dryer takes less time! Quietest machine I've ever had!

I had a front loader for rhe last 7 years. Never really happy with it. Had to push it back in place weekly, would walk across the floor and shake terribly when spinning. Never felt the clothes were really clean eather. Guess I was right! When washing the clothes for the first time in this washer, I could not believe how dirty the water was when it drained. The first load of everything I washed was the same way. Gross. 7 years of front load washer dirt. My clothes, bedding, blankets, everything is so clean and fresh now. I can really tell the difference! The washer also has not moved AT ALL, and the spin cycle is as fast if not faster than the front loader was.Clothes dry fast as spin gets them pretty dry to begin with. I love this machine...did I mention it is HUGE also!! No smells, no gross rubber gaskets. I will never go back to a front load machine!!

I am surprised at how much I can wash in one load! It is the same as two loads in my old washer. With the new technology, I was skeptical that anything was happening in that washer. My clothes are clean and I can add softener before I close the lid. Love the power rinse cycle and the optional 2nd rinse, too.

Very easy to use, plenty of options, cleans well. if and when it needs repair it won't cost an arm and a leg, and will be able to find a repair person. Had a computerized machine that took four repair people to find one who could fix it and would have cost more than the cost of a new machine, therefor bought the above washer from Best Buy. Very happy with my new machine.
