Customers appreciate the Opal 2.0's excellent ice quality and overall performance, frequently praising its ease of use and attractive design. However, some users find the machine noisy and require regular maintenance, including filter replacements and descaling. The water tank capacity and the need for frequent sanitization are also points of concern for some customers. While the compact size is a plus for many, others find the weight to be a significant drawback.

Makes great ice! It is a little louder than I thought it would be. Holds ice for about 18 hours before it begins to melt. I do like that it continues to make ice as the ice in the drawer melts. It's a very good product!

I have had the original GE for almost 20 years. It was time to upgrade. The newest version makes ice faster and has the large side tank that is a game changer. The cleaning feature is much easier; the magnetic scooper is a must

Works well, makes ice fast. Machine is extremely delicate though, needs maintenance every 2 weeks. Not for the average person who doesn’t keep up with maintenance.

2nd 1 i purchased 1st one failed by my own fault , didnt descale as much as i should have , great ice maker just what the wife ordered. it does require to be maintained and decaled with a new filter once a month. especially if you have hard water, but even with filter or bottled water descaling is required

Ice is great, I like that I can use filtered water in it. Maintaining it is a bit annoying, have to take it to the sink drain it and run vinegar through it for a while to get it back running well.
While the Opal only requires the use of potable water, using distilled water in the machine will decrease the frequency of required cleanings. When using distilled water, we recommend sanitizing the unit once a month. Descaling may not be required at all when using distilled water, as you most likely will not need to remove mineral deposits.

Ive had my Nugget for 9 months and im obsessed! No issues whatsoever and we have nice, frozen, chewable, perfect ice cubes at all times of the day. Theres an app that pairs with the nugget so you can set the time you want the machine to turn on and off daily. Im obsessed!

This unit is a great ice maker. I add filtered water to enhance the "flavor" of the water. No flavor means great tasting water. The only reason I didn't give a 5 stars was because of the price.

Works great but it’s a bit temperamental and by this is the line which pulls from the reservoir. If it’s not lying flat, it will get air locked and water will not flow to ice maker internal reservoir. Also was took by Best Buy this ice maker would make three different size ice cubes but it does not do so. Only the so called sonic ice.

purchased the GE Opal 2 Nugget Ice Maker from Best Buy, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. The machine produces soft, chewable nugget ice quickly and consistently, and the quality is comparable to what you would get at a high-end restaurant or café. Setup was straightforward, and the unit feels well-built and premium.
I especially appreciate how quiet it is during operation and how easy it is to clean and maintain. The ice bin capacity is generous, and the refill cycle is efficient, so we rarely run out of ice even with daily use. The smart features and app connectivity are a nice bonus and work reliably.
Best Buy’s ordering and delivery process was seamless, and the product arrived exactly as described. This has been an excellent investment for our household, and I would highly recommend the GE Opal 2 to anyone who loves nugget ice and wants a reliable, high-quality appliance.

It makes fantastic ice… but it is wildly unusable. My first machine lasted 2 weeks before it started making noises like a demon being exorcized from a shrieking cat. It is so loud I can hear it FROM DOWN THE ROAD when I’m walking my dog. It’s a wonder my neighbors never made a noise complaint. I returned it and got a new one. The new one lasted an entire month before it started doing the same thing. If I didn’t live in an apartment, I’d just buy a new fridge with a good ice maker in it. If you own a home, honestly do that. Save yourself the trouble and your hearing.
Given the issues you had with your Opal, we'd very much like to review your situation. If you still have the product, we encourage you to send us (GE Appliances) a private message on one of our social channels (Facebook, Instagram) with your contact information, model and serial numbers, service history and a copy of your review. -Vikki@GEAppliances

Wife is absolutely in love with the machine. We both enjoy the nugget ice. This machine has been running nonstop since we plugged it in and the only time it’s been turned off is when we are, cleaning it. Found no issues with the machine works perfectly highly recommend following the maintenance and cleaning instructions and you should not have a problem with the machine

This icemaker is the best icemaker I have ever owned but you have to make sure you do two things in order for it to keep working well.
1) DO NOT USE THE FILTER. After a short period of time, it simply will not support the flow of water required by the pump for the system to work properly.
2) Instead, use filtered, purified water in the system. My daughter has a Brita filter on her kitchen tap that reduces the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) to around 150 ppm (use a tester). I took it one step further and take that water and use a countertop RO water purification system that reduces the TDS to zero (it is probably not, but my meter only reads parts per million and not lower). By using that water, and no filter installed in the icemaker, I have been using the icemaker for around three months with no issue (no descaling, no cleaning).
I am planning on cleaning the icemaker every few months or so, but so far, no issues with what other reviews have said on BestBuy and online (low water alert, descale, etc.)
