Customers are saying

Customers commend Chromecast Audio for its ease of use, excellent sound quality, and reasonable price. Many appreciate its seamless streaming capabilities and compatibility with other Google devices. While some users wish for a longer range and a built-in battery, the overwhelmingly positive feedback centers on the device's ease of setup and superior audio performance compared to Bluetooth alternatives. The convenience of using WiFi for audio streaming is also frequently highlighted.

    Does everything it should

It does everything it promises. The initial setup is a bit of a hassle, but your are carefully walked through the entire process. Once that's done, it's very easy to connect more devices. The only issue I have might not be with this product, but more in the driver on the device my phone uses to cast. My gripe is that casting from my phone uses a lot of battery and the phone gets hot. I have trouble understanding why streaming to the phone takes so much less that doing that and forwarding it on to this player. Oh well. Recommended! - Provided you know this takes a lot of power from your phone.

Get it if you're on the fence

For it's primary function: streaming audio to your audio system, it does it pretty well. If you've got a set of bookshelf speakers sitting around, then you might as well get this. My problems with it are desktop related. Casting from tabs in Chrome doesn't always work, and the only way I can troubleshoot it is by unplugging it and plugging it back in. And then this isn't google related, but you can't currently cast to it via the Spotify client. You can on their web page, but given the first problem...it's less than ideal. Overall it's worth the purchase though.

    Alternative to Sonos?

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The "?" in my summary is because I do not own a Sonos system. I went the Airplay route, and I never had good luck with multi room streaming. The Chromecast excels in a few ways: Price, device support, and multi room streaming from portable devices (smartphones, tablets). I'm going to purchase a few more Chromecast audios to see how a whole house audio setup works. They conveniently provide a delay adjustment in the Chromecast app, which will come in handy for larger spaces.

    Multi-room feature is awesome

I love being able to enjoy music in the entire house with the "multi-room" feature. I have an older Victorian house where the living room and kitchen are separated by doorways, so if I play music in one space, it's hard to hear it in the other space. This usually leads to playing music too loud for the room you're in but too soft for the one you're not in...but with 2 Chromecast Audios and multi-room, I can easily play synchronized music in both rooms at the same time.

I found that I would frequently turn on my living room television and HTPC just to stream Pandora music in the background or while cleaning, and I decided I wanted a simpler solution. Enter the Chromecast. I hooked it up to my receiver and after a minute or two of setup, it was good to go. Now, anyone in the house can just turn on the receiver and cast music to it from their phone.

Update to my old stereo systems

No more trying to tune stations manually on my old stereo or plugging into my phone via a wire. This little device allows you to stream music via your WIFI system to any stereo or speaker system with an ability to plug in an extra source. If your stereo system doesn’t have an AUX input via a small headphone plug, get an RCA plug adapter set that will give you the ability to use this easily. The setup of the Chromecast is very easy on your smartphone, IPAD, etc. Once it is setup, you can play any music from your device to your stereo, control the volume, change music sources, pause, mute, or whatever. Awesome device for $35, well worth it. I have two, one for home, one for my daughter at college.

I have two sonos speakers but I can not afford a whole home setup. This supplements the gaps very well. I use Apple Music so I have to mirror my android phone but it actually works very well. It seems to be more reliable and better sounding than Bluetooth. Overall I like my Sonos much better but for the money you really can not go wrong with Chromecast.

Been using it for about a month now. the only complaints are slight buffering issue and have had to reload my library twice. that aside the cost, app (Google Play) and device audio quality make this a must have. for me, I'm asking Santa for another.

    Great sound ...usually

Set up easy via app. Sounds great. Great way to connect phones or tablets to legacy sound systems. I have 2 and multi room playback works fine. But, for me it is sometimes buggy. I have had one chromecast go non detected a couple, and had to repeat setup. Once to be recognized I had to power cycle the chromecast. Sometimes the audio signal cuts in and out. I have an expensive router only one room away, so WiFi signal should be strong. Would still buy it again, but FYI there are potential issues.

Overall, I think Chromecast Audio has good value when trying to add streaming audio to non-Bluetooth speakers or receiver. This was relatively easy to set up as a regular Chromecast (Also own). However, using the product I find music can cut in and out at times. Also, casting to the Chromecast audio will drop altogether and I will have to restart the application or unplug and re-plug the Chromecast Audio back in. If the product worked properly most of the time I would have given it 5 stars. I was also disappointed with Google's buy a Chromecast for the holidays receive a $20 promotion towards the Google Playstore. This was one of the reasons I bought the Chromcast audio. Turned out in the fine print that the promotion was only for the regular Chromecast and not the Audio. Even though both isms cast the same.

Simple and easy device to get whole house audio

This is a really great device that can make any cheap Bluetooth speaker into a Wi-Fi speaker. You can cast audio from Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, and any other service that supports Google Cast to a speaker that is connected to this device. What's even better is that if you have multiple of these devices connected to other speakers, you can have the same music playing on those speakers simultaneously. It's a cheap way to get whole house audio.

I'm using the Chromecast Audio with an Apple setup... mainly playing music from my iPhone 7 or my (newest model) iPad. I uploaded my iTunes library to Google Play, and use the Google Play app to connect with the Chromecast Audio. The upload of the iTunes library to Google Play took about a day, but it was a lot of data, so that was ok. Then I fired it all up with the Google Play app on my iPhone, connected to the Chromecast Audio, and it sounded pretty good. The problem is, the music keeps stopping. It's not consistent.... it generally kicks out after 20 minutes, but a few times it's gone as long as 2 hours. I went online to find ways to fix this, and made a few changes to my router, but it still cuts out. I tried frequently restarting everything , but I haven't noticed whether that helped. Sometimes it seems like the Google Play app is the problem (hitting the "next track" icon will often start up the music), and sometimes I have to restart the Chromecast Audio. So I've spent many hours fiddling with this thing to get it to the point where, it'll play some music for... a while. When it works, it's pretty good. Not sure that it's any better than bluetooth though. I got this thinking that a wifi connection would get me better sound, but a cheap DAC just pulls down the quality. And the BestBuy return window is super, super short, so I'm stuck with it. My plan is to save up for a high end Sonos or Bose and just go with bluetooth. Or, double-down and get a Google Home to see if that connects any better.
