Cool, but know what you’re getting

So it’s cool to be able “cast” compatible apps like Netflix and YouTube from your phone or computer to the TV. However, if you think this allows you to cut ties with the cable provider, think carefully about the decision. $11/mo to Netflix, $9/mo to Hulu, $4 to rent a movie from the iTunes Store...by the time you add all this up, you’re paying as much as a cable bill. No streaming app offers any free content worth mentioning. Even Public Television’s app requires you to become a member to see much of the content, so just think about what you’re spending. One cool feature is that with a Google Photos account, your personal photos display on the TV while you’re deciding what watch. I recommend this, but be sure you know what it does and doesn’t do.

These are sick

There are tons of streaming apps that can be used with it as well as game apps for the whole family. I buy one for nearly every household I run into or any vacation I take so I always make sure to have a back up.

I've had no problems with buffering or disconnecting that I did with an earlier generation Chromecast. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one of these.

From old to gold

If the app is on your phone or tablet, you just "cast" it to your tv. Must have an HDMI port, or better yet a usb slot, because the Chromecast doesn't need to be plugged in, on tv to use.
