Customers often highlight the Chromecast Ultra's ease of use, excellent picture quality, and impressive 4K streaming capabilities. Many appreciate its straightforward setup and generally positive performance. However, some users mention the relatively high price point and the lack of a dedicated remote control as drawbacks. A few also noted occasional lag or heat issues.

Great Gadget for Older SmartTVs

I bought a Chromecast Ultra to compensate for my older SmartTVs lack of functionality. It is an LG that comes with the basic spread of apps, but not those I use often (e.g. FandangoNow). The device is super fast to setup (<5min) and is very intuitive as long as you have the appropriate apps downloaded on your smartphone, tablet, etc. Now the only thing this is missing is Amazon apps like Prime Video; however, there is another device needed for that...

The picture quality is great, certainly as compared to other devices like AppleTV. It holds the stream extremely well but without a definitive remote, you have to get used to using your phone and it is not as good as a tactile device. But the speed, functionality of the Chromecast is great. Is it worth an upgrade? Only if you need a 2nd one in your house.

I already had a Chromecast and upgraded to this one to get 4k contents and a faster and stronger wifi connection (802.11ac).
I'm very happy about it and it goes perfectly with a Google home mini.
The Chromecast can turn my TV on and off via CEC and it is compatible with most of the streaming services I love, I can also stream my laptop and phone screens without cables.
That's the perfect tool to turn a TV into a smart TV, or make a smart TV with missing apps smarter!

Love the fast speed of it and super clear since all I really do is watch Netflix and Hulu instead of actual TV.

Bought this for a tablet I had that wouldn't project to my TV (both Samsung). Splurged on the 4K version since I have a 4k TV. Did it do what I wanted? Yes. Am I still using it? No.
I ended up buying a new tablet anyway since my old one was too weak to handle all my class things and I felt it was time to upgrade. New tablet can project to my TV (again both Samsung) on its own. This mean the Chromecast is redundant now.
This is the problem I see with this device. It doesn't have a real purpose outside of casting. It has all these apps to turn any TV into a smart TV, but lets face it...almost all 4K TVs are smart TVs now! And it not, you might have a game console connected that has those same apps. If not, maybe your computer. If not, a Blu-ray player that has the apps. A modern home theater can have many devices with the exact same apps. Have DirecTV? Even their DVR boxes have some of the apps! So what is the point to this thing other than casting a 4K signal?
I did consider returning it. But since I bought it on sale and have thought about a future use (casting to a computer monitor in future office), I'm keeping it for now.

I bought the original Chromecast, and I've been looking at the new versions for a while. I had some gift cards, and decided to give it a try. I have to say that I'm pretty impressed. Even though I don't have a 4K TV, I think that it actually does up the picture clarity a bit. I have plans to buy the 4K - so I was future proofing, but it's very fast to load, great picture, and plenty of flexibility. Spend the extra and future-proof.

Recently purchased the Google - Chromecast Ultra (allows for UHD which my TV doesn't have, but others in my house do, so purchased the upgrade in case I move between TVs). This is my second Chromecast device. Both were easy to connect, pull the smartphone app, and start using. The rep at the store misinformed me that the device is power from the USB port, but it actually requires an electrical outlet, fortunately not an issue.

I now own 2 Chromecasts and they are very different. I first purchased the standard Chromecast first for use with online content through Plex, Netflix, Hulu and others. It was great but it would hiccup occasionally when I would attempt to stream any content that required more bandwidth than it was designed for. Still a solid product if you don't plan to use it for very high quality media.
After using Chromecast Ultra though, I honestly forgot that it was there. It just works smoothly with whatever I send at it. An added note is that I am not using my wifi to stream through Chromecast. I am directly connected to the internet with Chromecast Ultra via an Ethernet cable and I was connected to via an Ethernet cable as well with the standard Chromecast setup.
I constantly stream high quality movies and it was worth the investment for me. Nothing like a stuttering, sputtering movie to ruin the flow of a movie night and I no longer have that with Chromecast Ultra.

One way to get 4K content from Google play movies

One of the few ways to view 4K content from Google Play Movies, in true 4K. If you have a 4K TV and want to view 4K content on Google Play Movies, this is essential (if you don't already have one of the few other methods--I believe a TV running Android TV also works).
Note that you may be able to view 4K YouTube content through the appropriate app on many smart TVs, in 4K. If not, this works for that, also.

In an age of smart TVs, a lot of people think they don't have a use for a product like this. The chromecast has been wonderful. We did a trial of YouTubeTV and it was great for that. We also have a young child so being able to cast his favorite videos or show him pictures from our phones on the TV was a lot of fun for him. For the money, there are a lot of use options. We now own one for each TV.
