Transforms the Pixel Slate Into a Compact Notebook

This must have accessory connects to your Google Pixel Slate tablet and turns it into a compact Chromebook. It uses magnets to snap onto the tablet. It also functions as a protective case for the Slate and the magnets keep it in place. Be aware that it needs a surface that is somewhat stable to stay upright. So, if you like to sit it on your lap, you will need to place it on something stable when typing. My legs do not provide adequate stability so when I use it in bed I set it in front of me on the mattress. They keyboard is functional and easy to use. The keys are nicely backlit and feature an ambient light sensor to trigger the illumination. To adjust the keyboard illumination use the Alt button and brightness up and down buttons on the keyboard. The first time I connected it performed a firmware update. ---VERDICT--- The Google Keyboard is expensive but absolutely worth it because it transforms the very capable Pixel Slate Tablet into an even more capable tablet/notebook hybrid.

Must Have Accessory for Pixel Slate

The Pixel Keyboard SHOULD be included with the Pixel Slate. It is nearly a must have accessory. The keyboard attaches to the Pixel Slate via a magnetic connector. Placing the Pixel Slate overtop of the connector snaps it into place easily. The rear part of the case connects magnetically to the back of the Slate. The magnetic connection is the full length of the tablet so the angle of the Slate can be adjusted to any angle which is extremely nice. The keyboard itself is fairly nice to type on, the keys are large enough with decent travel to make it feel natural. The keys are backlight making it easy to type in a dark room. The keyboard itself sits flat on the surface making it not fairly ergonomic but doesn’t hurt typing. The keyboard is far best used on a hard surface, typing on your lap is possible but not ideal and can be a bit uncomfortable and awkward. The keyboard gets its power from the Slate so no butteries or power supply needed. When closed, the keyboard covers both the front and back of the Slate securing all sides. However, when picking it up, the keyboard side allows for the Slate to slide around making it really awkward to carry and needs to be done with caution. It seems there should have been a way to attach to top from moving so much. The touchpad works well, though could be more precise. It gets the job done. It has a dive board style left and right click like most laptops. It is large enough, but I would have appreciated a much larger touch surface so when selecting large areas there is more finger room. Overall it tracks well enough and it fine when you need to use a mouse pointer. External mouse would be far better overall though if using on a desk. The keyboard is composed of metal body with a rubbery cloth like underside to help eliminate slippage and adds grip when carrying around. The midnight blue color is fantastic and matched the color of the Slate itself. Overall this is, in my opinion, a necessary accessory despite it’s shortcomings. I would not use the slate without this very often, if ever.

This keyboard... the buttons, the tactical, the response, the comfort... It's going to be an absolute struggle trying to use any other keyboard due to the fact at how amazingly comfortable these circle keys are on the keyboard. The flexibility of the keyboard is great too. Whether you want to use it in tablet form, laptop form or even as a canvas to best utilize the Google pen, it offers an option for everything. This is a must add when purchasing the Pixel Slate. The keyboard experience is so comfortable, you will not regret it.

I have not been using this keyboard very long, but it is very nice to type on. It doesn't take long to get used to using it, because it's got great travel and feedback when typing. The size of the keys are just right for me, and with extended use this will be great. My only gripe is how flimsy it feels at times when closed. Other than that, the magnets on it are very strong. It will not fall apart when no in use.

Must have addition for Pixel Slate

Going without the optional Pixel Keyboard for the Pixel Slate would be like having a PB&J without the J. Not only do you get the comfortable, lightweight and portable keyboard, it also acts as a protective case for your precious Slate. The keyboard pairs automatically with the Slate as soon as you magnetically attach it. The magnetic stand for the back allows you to slide the Slate at different angles without locking you down to just a few options tilt angles. It also automatically puts your Slate to sleep and locks the device for quick and convenient transport in a bag. The detach ability is one of my favorite features as it doesn't tie you down if you prefer to use the Slate as a tablet compared to the prior Pixelbook model with the keyboard attached which also makes the Slate much more lightweight. The round buttons seem to help with prevent any accidental button pushing, are very smooth and comfortable to the touch and also very responsive. The mousepad is also very smooth and responsive. Although it's very thin, it appears to be just the right amount of protection you'll need against any drops and still seems durable with the material they used. The only drawback I have found is that it is not backlit which I prefer but I imagine that would only drain the Slate battery faster. I would strongly suggest opting for this if you're already a Slate owner because I feel you will get the most out of your Chromebook.

    A floppy, but OK keyboard

The keyboard connector itself is a couple of metallic dots in the middle of the keyboard, so you know where to line up the center of the Slate; the magnet pulls the tablet right into place - and the screen updates from “tablet” mode, to “computer” mode - as noted by an icon that disappears, way to the right by the time, which allows you easier access to your open windows when in tablet mode. The keyboard has a fabric connector area that is very flexible. So much so, that it can cause the table to flop face down on the keyboard if you have it on your lap and adjust your seat. The back-light feature of the keyboard is fantastic! I struggled typing at night with my X2, so this was a great change. If only the keyboard was more rigid like that of the X2; the bouncing around of the keyboard while on my lap drives me crazy. When the keyboard is closed to the tablet, there is some movement because it’s not snug and there's no magnet to keep it together; there’s play. Just think of rolling a toothpick between your thumb and index finger - the keyboards slides against the screen like that (noted in a photo). A magnetic stand is also part of the keyboard and it takes some getting used to. After a few days, I was able to slide the magnet in a way that I didn’t have to detach it completely from the back of the tablet. A good thing about this tablet and keyboard combination, is that it allows the keyboard to be folded underneath similar to a 2-in-1 style computer. When the tablet is oriented this way, I find myself using the dictation feature much more than the actual virtual keyboard on screen. Given the 'on the lap' flexibility, I can't give this 5 stars, but it's a good keyboard to pair up with the Slate, given you want to stay OEM.

    Connector great, cover is so-so

The Pixel Keyboard is very nice, making the tablet a chromebook. I really like that it attaches to the tablet with a VERY strong magnet and there is no ‘lining up’ the tablet to the keyboard…. The two pieces attach themselves!I do like how the back adjusts so that you have infinite levels However, this keyboard/cover really doesn’t have a spine. The front and back covers skew when you pick it up and will scratch the glass sooner rather than later. I feel that the keyboard is pretty heavy for what it is as well. The fabric between the keyboard and the connector spot for the tablet seems thin and I fear that it would wear out or tear pretty soon. The keyboard itself types well and is easy to use. Attaching pictures of this. The final odd thing about the keyboard is that using the touch pad to scroll is backwards from using the screen to scroll. On the screen, move fingers up, it moves the screen up. On the touchpad, move fingers down, it moves the screen up. Of course,, maybe there is some google setting I am missing. I would recommend this to a person who is a big Google OS fan, but probably not to a casual user because it's slightly clunky

Necessity rather than an accessory, IMHO

The Pixelbook is a great device and of course you'd want some kind of case to protect it. I've purchased tablet cases with keyboards before and while there are a lot of good choices out there, I usually ended up not using them after a while. They were either too bulky and awkward, the keyboards would be uncomfortable to use or they would fail in short time. So I was hopeful, but kind of jaded when I opened the package and wasn't expecting too much beyond a nicely designed case. The Keyboard case was where I thought I’d find a weak link, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Pixelbook connects to the case with a satisfying SNAP thanks to its magnetic alignment and the back gives you an infinite number of adjustment positions. I especially like how it recognizes when you are folding the keyboard back to use it as a tablet and it instantly changes to portrait mode (AND DISABLES THE KEYS!!) - little thoughtful touches like that make all the difference. I was also surprised at how quickly I became comfortable with the keyboard despite its strange round keys. While they are low profile, they have a decent enough amount of travel that you can type quickly without fatigue. The whole affair closes up solidly (thanks again to well placed magnets) and shuts down the Pixelbook without failures. Again, I mention this because I have owned a number of tablets and cases that could not deliver on these same promises; either the case was great and the keyboard unusable or the keyboard worked well but the case was subpar and bulky. I can slip the Pixelbook and its case into my backpack and you barely feel it. I'd have to say that to me, this case isn't an optional accessory; it's a necessity. Without it, you're only getting half of the Pixelbook experience. It's a surprisingly good keyboard and I used it to write this review as well as my other Pixelbook reviews without getting tired or frustrated. I'd even compare it favorably to some of the laptop keyboards I've used in the past. Honestly, I can't imagine buying the Pixelbook and NOT getting this case. You'd be crazy not to and it's worth every penny.

I cant imagine using my Pixel Slate without this... The tablet is almost too big to hold without having a keyboard like this attached. I LOVE the touch-pad feature and how responsive it is. Just like I'm use to using on my laptop. No adjustments at all. Only issue I have is what to do with the keyboard or how to fold it up when using the tablet as a "slate" with the stylus to jot notes down on. There's no easy way to do it without completely taking this off of the tablet, but then what do i do with it?

Floppy, Fails to Fully Protect Screen

You simply can’t use a tablet for serious work without an external keyboard, but unfortunately this keyboard misses the point. It’s a full-sized keyboard (which is nice) that when closed is supposed to cover the screen. Where this misses the point is in its design, which allows it to be “floppy” (see photos), causing the keys for the keyboard to easily “grind” against the screen when carrying or in a bag. It also makes it tough to use when on your lap since that floppiness allows the keyboard to move around in use. All they would have needed to do is stiffen up the material between the keyboard and tablet mount and this would have been a good choice. But by making it out of the leather (or fake leather, whichever it is), that lack of stiffness makes this incredibly tough to use anywhere but on a hard surface. (In one photo you’ll see how floppy the keyboard-to-tablet interface is, and the other photo you’ll see how the floppiness allows the cover to move around & not cover the full surface of the screen) The touchpad is responsive and large, but like with any touchpad has the habit of getting activated by your hands when typing, and there is no quick function button on the keyboard to turn that touchpad off if you’re using a mouse or stylus for screen input (you can do it, but have to dig into the settings). The back has a variable-angle prop, so you can make this sit at any angle when you’re using it on a desktop. And for those who also purchase a stylus to go with it, maddeningly they failed to put in any tab or clip to help attach the stylus to. While the stylus is magnetic and will sit on the back of the tablet when not in use, when storing in a bag there is no way to properly store the stylus. If you’re looking for a keyboard to use with the Slate tablet, do yourself a favor and choose a Bluetooth keyboard and avoid this.

The Pixel Slate got a bad rap. I really liked the device. The hardware was high quality and for the right price, is a stellar buy. Pros: Hardware! The Slate feels sleek. Great screen and the tablet feels nice to hold and wasn't too heavy. The speakers were slightly above average, but not room filling. Aside from some design choices, the keyboard was also pleasant to type on. I was a fan of the round keys. Battery life was pretty amazing as I could get about 8-10 hours of mixed video/music streaming usage along with doing work on Google suite. Cons Keyboard design choice. While the keyboard was nice to type on, it wasn't nice to use with the device. It wobbled a lot if not used on a solid surface, like on your lap for instance. The connector that attaches to the tablet has some slack. This didn't bother me a whole lot, but I could see it as a flaw. Overall I did like the Slate, but returned it as I needed something that could handle Zoom and multitasking apps at the same time and Zoom on Android at the time did not have a lot of features available.

This keyboard is great perfect size even the mouse pad is big enough for four of movement on a tablet you can press it and control your tablet. The favorite part of this keyboard are the keys which are round like your fingertips and elevate it to mimic a real keyboard. Everything is perfectly labeled and position. The magnet is helpful to connect to your tablet. Fully protects tablet.

It's nice that since this keyboard has a high end price, that it also has a high end feel. The keys type very solid, even with such short travel. I love the variable backlighting, the responsiveness that comes from a direct connection. It has very useful function keys and F-Key combinations. Some complain about it being floppy in your lap. I was prepared for that, but I find it works fine for me. I do have long legs and maybe that's why. It folds up nicely, but doesn't make a great folio case, due to the floppy hinge. It does work best on a flat surface, but it works reasonably well in my lap, if I stay put. The variable screen adjustments are also very useful. I'm pleased.

I'm pretty happy with the keyboard for the most part. The keys feel good and the back lit keys are nice. It work decently well as a cover to protect the slate from scratches, but it slides around a little. My main complaint is the keyboard itself can wabble while typing and that's a bit annoying.

It is too expensive for what it offers. But there are no other options. It is quite comfortable to type on flat surface. But the keyboard is flops too much on a non even surface. And the magnetic attachment is not strong so unless you are careful there is high chances that the tablet will fall out of the keyboard case. Also it is freaking 200 bucks. I do not think this is as good as 100 dollar surface keyboard. Overall google was too dumb to set the price so high for this and slate.

This is probably the best option for the Pixel Slate. The magnetic attachment is really nice and very similar to the Surface Pro. It also acts as a light cover when closed. My only gripe is that since it doesn't attach to the front of the device as well, it does wiggle around a little bit. This is only an issue if you are using it on your lap or when it's closed. This doesn't make a huge problem when typing though but it's not quite as solid as the Surface's kb.

The product itself is a pretty high quality. It takes up a lot of space when it's set up with the tablet. Also, the cover is a bit floppy when attached to the tablet. Sometimes, when I close the cover and undo the stand, the tablet pulls out of the connector (It feels like the connector magnet isn't as strong as the magnets propping the tablet up). It's pretty good, but I would probably prefer the Brydge G-Type keyboard over this.

I got this keyboard free with my pixel slate purchase. It connects easily to my slate through magnets and feels very sturdy. The keys are very clicky and have a round shape which I find interesting. They are also backlit and the track pad works very well. The back which covers the back of the slate easily slides to adjust to any height and have strong magnets to hold it on place. Overall a very good keyboard cover for the slate.
