Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the design, comfort, and button placement of the Split Pad Compact Attachment Set for Nintendo Switch, citing its ergonomic design, ease of use, and improved joystick placement compared to standard controllers. However, customers are negative about the wired connection and the perceived lower quality of some components, expressing a wish for wireless functionality and improved button feel. Many appreciate the aesthetically pleasing design. The price point relative to the perceived quality was also a point of contention for some users.

I'm disappointed with these controllers. I got the Eevee design and I absolutely live it, the design and colors are beautiful and I love the clear plastic casing. Other than that, I don't like them. The sticks themselves actually feel great, much much better than the Joycons. All the buttons feel mushy and unsatisfying, though, with the exception of the Home button and the Screenshot button (in other words, the ones you rarely press). The triggers are also the mushy, unsatisfying type too. The biggest deal breaker for me is the lack of any wireless mode. The only way to use these is to have them docked to the console, or to use the cable with the included docking plate. Wanna share a controller and play with friends? Too bad. Wanna sit in the couch without being tethered by a cable? Get F'ed. Another missing feature is rumble, they don't rumble at all. I'd totally understand this if they were $30, $40, maybe $50, but they're nearly $90 before taxes. That's just a ripoff, absolutely not worth it.

Product is as advertised, a little pricy but this specific model gives you an attachment that allows you to use ANY of HORI's other split pads with it while plugged to a USB outlet on your Switch dock. The length is perfect. The design is well done and beautiful. Especially if you're a Pokémon fan!

I was already pretty familiar with the Split Pad Compact before buying this set, so I already knew what to expect going in. Out of all of the "Joy-Con alternatives" that are available, I do feel like this has the best balance between size, ergonomics, features, and price for the controllers by themselves. Design wise, these are just adorable with Eeveelutions on both sides, and Eevee on the center piece is the cherry on top. And the controllers are also partially translucent as well, which I didn't expect at all, so that was a pleasant surprise! The ergonomics are definitely the greatest strength for the Split Pad Compact, as they're way more comfortable than the standard Joy-Cons, along with better-feeling buttons, sticks, and a proper d-pad. The d-pad is a little stiff for my liking, but it's at least accurate and comfortable to use compared to the directional buttons on the Joy-Con. These definitely make the Switch larger, but not as large as, say, the Split Pad Pro, which has all the same features as these, but are even larger. At the same time though, I don't think these make the Switch so big that it's unwieldy to use, and the comfort gains are more than worth the size increase in my opinion (Though I do wish I can find a proper, high-capacity carrying case that is compatible with this, but that's a me issue). However, these controllers do make some very noteworthy compromises that some may very well consider dealbreakers, especially at the price this set is going for. The main one is that they're essentially wired controllers. So there's no wireless capabilities of any kind, along with no motion controls or rumble. Granted, the included USB attachment does make it a bit easier to use since that does allow you to use these with your Switch in TV mode, but it doesn't get around the fact that these can't be used wireless. They're handheld mode controllers through and through, but are also not full-on Joy-Con replacements. They're great for that purpose, don't get me wrong. I loved using these, and will continue to use them, but the compromises these make do make it hard to swallow for some. And of course, there's the price. Simply put, this set is absurdly expensive. Way more expensive than I think they should be. The fact that this is more expensive than the first-party Switch Pro Controller while being nowhere near as technically capable is a HUGE ask for most people. So you REALLY have to want the better ergonomics for handheld mode and have a cute set of controllers to go along with it. These controllers definitely nail the design and ergonomic improvements for sure, and having that USB attachment to use these in TV mode is also a nice inclusion, but is it with worth paying more than what the Pro Controller goes for? Especially when that controller gets you all the bells and whistles for a Switch controller? That's very much debatable, and very much a big "no" if all you care about is playing in TV mode. But if you're more into handheld mode, and want something more comfortable than the standard Joy-Cons no matter what, this is a great solution. That said, the Split Pad Compact by themselves go for way less, especially if you look at the non-Pokémon designs. So, if you want better ergonomics for handheld mode and don't care about using these on the TV, then I'd say get that cheaper version instead. But if you want this specific design, then this bundled version is the only way to get it, and that's a tough sell. Long story short, this version of the Split Pad Compact are great as always, as they're comfortable with great-feeling inputs. And the Eeveelution flair this set has is a really nice touch. But that price tag is gonna be very difficult for some to swallow, so I'd say if you REALLY have to have this, wait for it to go on sale. Great controllers, but not $90+ good in my eyes.

These are really pretty and work nicely. They feel great in the hand as well as the buttons and analog sticks/joysticks are nicely placed so there is no strenuous reach. The buttons and analog sticks/joysticks are easy to move and press too. While I really like using these on my Nintendo Switch I don’t like that I am not able to have a protective case on my Switch when using these controllers. The reason being is that part of the controllers when attached wrap around behind the Switch’s screen. I also don’t like that you’re not able to charge these separately, as they do not have a charging port. They will only charge when attached to the split pad or the Nintendo Switch.

Rating is based on the black Friday price of $50... great value at that price. A little lighter though bulkier than the originals but so far it works well and there are added features like Turbo.

These are better than stock joy-cons in every way, & there’s a LAVENDER option (giving a very good SNES nostalgia vibe). The cord does not disconnect when playing on a TV though, which is not terrible but also not ideal (it does give a good old-schoolness to it tho). & it comes in lavender.. Did I mention the lavender part ??

This remote offers an easier feel in the hand and puts less stress on your joints in your fingers and wrist. I’ve got really bad trigger finger and the way the remote fits to the hand more with built up handles and buttons on the back help a lot compared to the typical flat remotes you get as the standard. Definitely recommend, especially if you can get it on sale!

I really like this controller set, it is wired if you want to use it with the switch in dock mode. I do not mind this as i mainly use mine in handheld. Its very cute and the controller is bigger than the regular joycons and I find this to be more convenient as my hands dont cramp as quickly. Also no drift as of june 2025.

Not as well made as i thought, especially for the prive range. The - button is set too shallow, plastic feels weak, BUT long cord for pluging into dock for play, and ergonomically friendly. Plus bit of a sucker for eeveelution designs.

Compared to the standard joycon, we have some advantages. This product is a little bigger, great for adults. The sticks are smoother. The turbo and underside triggers can be programmed, which is nice when needed. The square design, unfortunately, puts same or worse strain on your wrists.
