Excellent addition to my wife’s MacBook Air. Was really drawn to the ability to connect an Ethernet into it in the event we are out of town. My wife really loves it cause it allows her to have dual monitor capabilities to assist in completing school work.

Has Some Strange Quirks That Holds It Back

HOW IT WORKS: Two ways to use this. A. Plug in directly into your MacBook where it will take up both USB-C (Thunderbolt) ports. Or B. Use the included single USB-C extension cable to take up only one port but also limits how many ports are available on the hub. Tested on both a MacBook Air and a Windows 11 laptop. Both worked the same. With the exception that on Windows I couldn’t plug in the two ports at the same time (dongle) and had to use the extension. Even though I had two USB-C ports the same distance apart like on my MacBook it would crash my computer. Could vary from device to device. This takes up two Thunderbolt ports on your MacBook. The Top USB-C Port is pretty much a direct passthrough. Meaning anything your original port can do this Top port can do. However, the Bottom USB-C Port on your laptop is then used to power the rest of ports on this device. If you are using the extension cable you can only plug in one of the USB-C ports which then provides power to EITHER the 40 GBPS USB-C Port OR the rest of the ports. PROS: - Compact design that is professional looking and easy to use. With fix below can keep it in all the time without having to remove regularly. - Supports up to 4K60Hz through the HDMI 2.0 (not 2.1) OR Top USB-C 40 GBPS Port. If using the Top USB-C port you can also charge your device (up to 100W) at the same time while plugged into a display. But the bottom USB-C Port does not support displays or charging. - Extends available ports on your MacBook without taking up much space. Still can use it on your lap without issues. - I was getting around 93 mbps speeds on my Samsung Pro Plus SD card (but rated for 104 mbps). But it was kind of awkward to try and plug in due to location. CONS: - The plastic cover causes my MacBook Air to sit lopsided (very mildly) on a flat surface and I can’t close my lid. - When plugged in there is an LED that turns on. Even if I close my device using the fix listed below it will stay on constantly. Wearing down the battery and causing light pollution at night. When using the extension cable it only lights up when you are plugged into the second USB-C Port (which isn’t a complaint just an FYI). - It uses up two thunderbolt slots and while doing so it downgrades the second USB-C Port to 5 GBPS as it shares itself with the HDMI 2.0, USB-A 3.1, Ethernet, and MircoSD card. - Second USB-C port doesn’t support external displays or charging and slow transfer speeds (compared to other USB-C ports). FIXES: - Removing the plastic/magnetic attachment will allow my MacBook Air to sit flat along with close without any issues. - Need to have BOTH ports plugged in to get full use of the dongle. - Extension cable will provide power to EITHER the Top or Bottom of the device. CONCLUSION: It works, I was able to plug in everything (except for ethernet as I didn’t try that) without any issues. I really like how compact and professional it looks. As it makes it easy to travel with and use on your lap which other hubs struggle with. But I found the nuances of this device take away some of the magic, especially for the price when comparing it to other hubs. As I think it is priced at the top end, but comes with less ports, at lower specs. Making me land squarely on the fence to recommend or not. It’s not a bad device by any means as everything works just well, but nothing makes it all that particularly special either. I think if it came with an additional USB-A Port it would go a long way.

Hyper - DUO PRO 7-in-2 USB-C Hub for MacBook and Mac Air I had Hyper’s Duo Pro attached to my computer moments after taking it out of the box. You don’t need instructions for such a purposeful design. And everything worked. Everything. I connected my 4K monitor, ethernet (providing a full Gig from Google Fiber), my keyboard, and eventually an accessory hard drive. A quick test of my internet speed revealed an across-the-board 5% increase over the connection dongle I had been using previously. My keyboard also seemed a bit more responsive. I’ll admit it’s unwise to depend on subjective feel to evaluate responsiveness, but those internet speeds were measured several times after switching the Hyper in and out of my computer setup. This is a well designed port/hub. WHY THE “MOSTLY” IN MY TITLE? I’ve got Insignia’s simple but effective clear case on my MacBook Pro M1. The folks at Hyper can not anticipate and could not design their Duo Pro 7-in-2 based on my choice to use a protective case. The full clad coverage of the case means I can’t snug my new hub/port replacement too close to my laptop. The really nifty “grips” won’t properly grab the computer with the case in place. So, I’ve got to pop off the case bottom when using my new Hyper Duo at home. Or, maybe I should try carving away some case plastic using my hand rotary tool? We’ll see. But, I’m not giving up the Hyper Hub. FEATURES: The DuoPro offers some flexibility regarding what you can connect to and how you can connect. IF you are connecting to a MacBook Air, you’ll use the Universal USB-C Adapter. IF you are connecting to your MacBook Pro, the twin USB-C male ports/plugs are used along with one of the grips (left or right) that increase the connection reliability. The Mac Pro’s magnetic power connection is left fully accessible, so there is no reason not to keep using it. Ports galore from end to end: USB-C (Thunderbolt 4/USB4 compatible - 40Gbps, 100W power); HDMI (4K-60Hz); USB-A (5Gbps); Ethernet (Gigabit); Headphone Jack (Combo in/out); USB-C (5Gbps); MicroSD. SUMMARY: This is a very well designed hub and port accessory that looks like it was carved out from the Mac laptop during manufacture and is now properly reunited with it. Everything just works. I suspect the physical design will bump up against more cases than just mine. It’s worth compromising to have all this extra port capacity.

This hub works great with my 2018 MacBook Pro and my husband’s 2020 MacBook Air. It seems to have a way to connect all of the things. This is a newer version of a similar hub from Hyperdrive which has a Gigabit ethernet port. This is the port that has a bit of wiggle room, 4th port from the top. This port has seven different ports. USB4 (Thunderbolt 4 compatible), HDMI, USB-A, the Gigabit Ethernet, 3.5 audio combo jack, USB-C, and a MicroSD slot. This hub comes with one slim black plastic piece that makes it possible for the hub to attach to the side of the Macbook. That piece can be removed and swapped out with the extra piece in the box for a 2021 MacBook Pro, which is different. I don’t have this MacBook, so I can’t tell you more about it. You can use the hub without the plastic piece, at least for the MacBooks that I have, because I can’t fully close the computer with this piece on it. If I remove the plastic piece, there is a gap between the hub and the side of the computer, where I can see the two Thunderbolt 4 connectors. That doesn’t bother me. I think it’s fine as long as I’m not moving the computer around. There is a short USB-C cable in the box for connecting to other types of devices, like an iPad. The hub is not heavy. It does not come with a travel sleeve or bag, which would have been handy.

The Hyper-Duo is a well built USB-C hub that has a great solid feel in hand and helps you add some ports to your laptop in case you need them. All of the ports worked as advertised 1. The HDMI port worked great on a 4K display 2. Pass through charging worked well, however since this allowed the MagSafe charger to be free I prefer to use that instead 3. The USB slot worked 4. Ethernet port was able to get the speeds my ISP is providing 5. Headphone jack works, I was not able to verify if this has a dedicated DAC though 6. USB C port works great, I was able to use an external NVME SSD gen 3 and it reached its max speed. 7. The MicroSD card reader works fine, however I wasn’t able to get the full 100+ MBPS read speeds it came in just under at about 87 The Hyper Duo comes with a few attachment’s to be able to fit some older MacBook Pro/Airs and also includes a USB extension if your laptop has a case on it which I personally prefer to use because it doesn’t hide any of my 2022 MacBook Pro ports. I would recommend the product for anyone with a Mac laptop that had only 2 USB C/thunderbolt ports but for anyone with a 2022 MacBook Pro this is only needed for professionals that need even more ports.

Perfect Match with 2021 MacBook Pro 16”

I’ve owned a 16” space gray 2021 MacBook Pro for a few months now, and while I love the machine, I sometimes find myself needed a USB-A port or a dedicated ethernet port. It can be a hassle to travel with all of the adapters/dongles you think you’ll need. This Hyper DUO PRO hub is an excellent option to reduce the dongles you’ll need to travel with, but it’s not perfect. === PROS === - The space gray color is a perfect match with the color of the MacBook Pro. - The hub is compact and lightweight. - The hub does not block the MagSafe charging port of the MacBook Pro. - Two brackets are included that allow you to fit the hub onto 2021 MacBook Pro models as well as 2016-2022 MacBook Airs. - An adapter cable is included so you can also use the hub with other USB-C devices such as iPad Pros. - The top USB-C port allows for 100w power delivery/charging in case you forget your MagSafe cable. - The USB ports operate at full 3.1 and 4.0 speeds. === CONS === - The hub fits nicely onto my MacBook, but when I pull USB cables out of the ports, the hub also tends to pull off my MacBook. I typically have to hold the hub with one hand while I disconnect USB devices with the other. - The ethernet port is awkward to use. I actually broke the clip on an ethernet cable trying to remove it from the hub. There’s a bit of a learning curve to figure out exactly how to remove ethernet cables from this mini-sized port. === OVERALL === Minor gripes aside, this is a great hub for newer MacBook Pro and Air models. If you need a few extra ports and don’t want to worry about carrying extra dongles or adapters, then you should give this one a look.

The Hyper DUO Pro 7-in-2 is great accessory to your MacBook, expanding the capability and number of ports available Hyper has included most of the common requirements such as HDMI, micro SD, USB-A/C, and a 3.5mm jack. In addition to the typical I/O, Hyper includes a full size gigabit ethernet and Thunderbolt 4 pass through (40Gbps) and 100W PD. On paper and mostly in practice it works great. For my use case, I enjoy how compact and light the hub is making it easy to store in my bag. The gray color matches and compliments my MacBook Pro and I like how it is not dangling or putting additional strain on the port but rather attaches the side and even has interchangeable plastic supports to keep it in place, depending on your model MacBook. Everything is not perfect and there are a few negatives I have encountered with this hub, though they don’t apply to everyone. First, the plastic strips prevent the lid from closing. Without them the hub sticks out a few millimeters from the side and does not feel secure. Second, the spring loaded ethernet port makes it difficult to remove the ethernet cable as it maintains force on the clasp unless you hold it open while releasing the cable. Lastly, there is only one PD port which is also your thunderbolt port. Since the device attaches to both open thunderbolt ports on my device I can not use a thunderbolt accessory and charge the MacBook at the same time when using the hub. For my intended use this is not a deal breaker but I do feel they should have at least made the second USB-C port PD as well. Overall, a mostly well designed docking station with limitations.

--- SETUP --- This hub was quick and easy to set up. It does not need an external powersource. Just plug and play and it works out of the box with any 2016 or later MacBook Pro or iPad. --- FEATURES --- 7 different connectivity interfaces including: Thunderbolt 4 (USB4), HDMI 4K at 60 Hz, USB port, Ethernet port, 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C, and MicroSD slot. --- PERFORMANCE AND EXPECTATIONS --- MacBook Pros have always been my computer of choice. When the switch to USB-C occurred, I missed having some of the other ports that were standard in older Macs. This USB-C Hub is perfect for my needs. I like working with 2 monitors plus the laptop screen. Through the HDMI port, I directly connected one of my monitors. Through the USB-C port, I connected another external HDMI port where my second monitor plugged into with no issues or flickering. The USB-A port was perfect for my wired mouse and having a MicroSD card slot is ideal for transferring my photos/videos from my camera when I need to edit them. Working as a video editor, I occasionally need to use a 3.5mm audio jack to listen to the video sound better or to record voiceover while using a mic monitor via the headphones. This jack did just the trick. This particular hub grabbed my attention due to its claim of being able to use it even if you have a protective cover on your Mac. That ended up being true to an extent. The double USB-C connectors are longer than normal so that you can remove the included Mac adapters (pictured) and use the hub. Though I don’t have to remove the protective case on my Mac, it doesn’t allow me to fully close the Mac. This may be a different scenario for many of you, but be aware of that. Additionally, you can use it with a regular PC, Chromebook, or iPAd, but with an included USB-C adapter. Doing so will have the whole hub dangle awkwardly, but you’ll have access to the ports you need. --- APPROVAL --- Ultimately, I would recommend this hub if your Mac is 2016 or newer. I would not recommend it for anything other than a MacBook Pro. Even though it would work, it just doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing. If that’s not a concern for you, then by all means, the device works like a charm.

    Great compact hub!

This is a great little compact hub. While it’s very specifically for MacBook Pro lines, it does a nice job of clamping onto the side of the laptop and providing a whole bunch of connections. I especially appreciate gaining both HDMI and a micro SD slot. It’s also a breath of fresh air to have something so compact. Most hubs are a mess of cables which are a chore to carry around with you. This little guy is just about 4” long by around 1” from the top, and slim! Not everything is perfect about this kind of setup, but I get why they chose the design direction they did. For one, the low profile seems to suggest that you could leave this in, close up your laptop and go. You do not want to do this. Closing your screen will sandwich the thin edge of the hub and you risk damaging your screen. This is very much an only-while-using kind of hub… unless of course you use the included mini USB-C cable for (presumably) this reason… well in addition to the advertised ability to connect to USB-C iPads/PCs, of course. It makes it a bit easier to just connect and disconnect if in more of a hurry. Build Quality: I’m unable to fully tell if the main body of this hub is aluminum, or some sort of metalized plastic, but either way, it’s plenty nice for what it is. Not quite as hefty as a Macbook’s chassis, but still designed with clean lines. When attached to the MacBook it feels secure and like it belongs. This comes with two contour adapters to make a secure fit to your specific laptop model, one for 2016-2020 design language, and another for the redesign of 2021. Adapter choice wasn’t fully straightforward for my use, as going off of the model date range along I wasn’t able to use my 2019 16” MacBook Pro with the intended adapter, which seems to only assume smaller models and was too tight to seat the USB-C connections. I instead had to use the 2021 version, which doesn’t fully follow the side contour of my machine’s design. Luckily, that doesn’t seem to matter much and the hub was still able to feel secure while attached. Overall, it’s a great design, especially considering how bulky alternatives tend to be. Plenty of ports and ready to travel with you.

Works with my M2 MacBook Air

I have an M1 MacBook Air as well as an M2 version. While this is advertised for 2016-2020 Airs, I had no problem with it lining up perfectly with my M2. It’s snug, even without the included strip, and everything just works. Physically, there is no wobble or play while it’s plugged in. I wouldn’t pick it up by the hub because you could still snap off or bend the ports, but plugging and unplugging cables from the hub is no problem while attached. My official Apple MagSafe charger can still attach while the hub is plugged in, which is a bonus. Thanks to Apple for leaving the dual USB-C spacing intact across MacBook generations. Note: the color is space gray; I have the midnight MacBook Air, so if you care much about that, *whispers* it won’t match. Also, you can’t close the lid all the way with this on, not that you should be moving your MacBook around with this attached… For the functionality, plugging USB disks or flash drives into the ports or a MicroSD card in mount everything as expected and they pop up in Finder, HDMI out shows as an additional monitor, the Ethernet cable port gets me connected as with any other adapter, and the headphone jack works fine. I didn’t test it with a mic/headset. I’d like to shout out the pop-up, spring-loaded design of the Ethernet port to keep the hub slim; it’s very, very nice. This hub is an excellent addition to your MacBook if you need to breakout from the pair of USB-C ports without a bunch of extra dongles. I prefer that my aluminum dongles aren’t connected by short cables that always end up scratching my MacBook and flutter around, causing clutter and chaos. I recommend this and am glad it works with my newer Air; it’s my go-to hub.

7 ports, works with a case and MagSafe

I have M2 MacBook Air and like so much from Apple it lacks ports. Which is where the Hyper Duo Pro comes in, as it gives you 7 ports. Technically, you might argue it's 5 extra ports because while the Hyper Duo has 2 USB C ports, it also uses the 2 USB C ports on your MacBook and then replicates them again for 7 in total. Just to avoid confusion, yes the Hyper Duo has 7 ports. Using is straight forward, plug and go. There's a brief security prompt on macOS Ventura and you're ready to rock and roll. Fit wise, the Hyper Duo works with and without a case. I have a thin clip on case on my MacBook and to fit "properly" the HyperDuo comes with thin black face plates (which is what you can see in the shopping photo). The plates are labelled "For 2021 MacBook Pro" and "for 2016-2020 MacBook Air". The MacBook Air faceplate works perfectly on my 2022 MacBook M2 when I don't have the case on my MacBook, with the case on, the faceplate is a too tight (not Hyper's fault) and I tried the MacBook Pro faceplate and while it would fit around my case, it put too much of a gap to complete the USB C connection - so with my case on, I use it without the Faceplate (see uploaded photos). I don't see this as an issue, just something I think other buyers need to know. FYI, there is a small blue LED light near the USB C port on the Hyper to let you know it's all connected and receiving power. In my other tests, USB and microSD transfer rates were great. It was a life saver to get a microSD slot because I had to transfer holiday photos from my GoPro and would have been stuck. Also, before I forget, the Duo also comes with a small flat USB C cable. I was able to use the Hyper with the short USB C cable, the tip is to connect it to the second USB C port on the Hyper. Another thing, before I forget, you can access the MagSafe charger on your MacBook even when it's slid onto your MacBook. Overall, very happy with the Hyper Duo Pro. I would recommend anyone with a recent Mac to get the Duo, as having HDMI, ethernet, USB A, and a microSD reader just makes sense.

This aptly-named product turns the two USB-C ports on your Macbook into seven useful ports. It is attractive and fits snugly on the side of your Macbook. It was prefitted with a mounting bracket for the Air, so I was able to attach it to my m1 Air when it came out of the box. A seperate bracket is included for the Macbook Pro. It is easy to change the brackets: they snap easily on and off the hub. You don't have to use any cables to attach the hub to a Macbook. The hub is held on by the two USB-C connections and the bracket. It is an attractive fit on my Air, but be advised that the mounting bracket has a downside - you can't close the lid on the Air all the way when the device is mounted. The bracket prevents it. This was a disappointment for me, but you may not care. After all, this is a portable on and off device designed to let you pop it on and off and carry with you when travelling. The most pleasant surprise for me was that you can use this hub with the Apple tablets that have a USB-C connection, like the iPad Air and iPad Pro. I have an iPad Air, and this hub worked beautifully with it, using the USB-C male to female connecting cable which is supplied with the device. Of course, the connection isn't quite as elegant as with the Macbook, but it certainly gets the job done. I was able to connect my iPad to my desktop monitor via the hub's HDMI connection, my desktop speakers via the earphone port, and my ethernet cable via the J45 port. All worked swimmingly. This a versatile device. It adds a plethora of connections. On the Macbook, the hub lets you pass through charging power through the hub to your notebook, and leaves the second USB-C connection available for other devices you may want to use with the notebook. I did not have a 4K monitor available to use with the device during my test, but I have no doubt the 4K video from your Macbook would be passed beautifully by this hub. Turn two connections into seven. USB-C with power pass through, USB-C, Ethernet, HDMI, earphone/speaker, and micro-SD. Who could complain? Not me!

"The Duo Pro 7-2 USB-C Hub" custom solved my Macbook Air connectivity limitations. My M1 MacBook Air is all I need for every work and fun project, alas -- except for connectivity. There are only 2 USB-C ports. That means all kinds of dongles, adapters, special cables are needed to connect most of my accessories. If I am low on power, I have to use 1 of the 2 ports exclusively for power. Since storage on my MacBook Air is limited, I use an external Solid State Drive (SSD) for storage. But I also need an SSD for my Time Machine backups. I can't have all 3 connected, hence the value of the Hyper Duo Pro. I have connectivity in a beautifully designed unobtrusive case that appears custom fitted for MacBook Air. It attaches on or off in 1 second. There are 7 ports to meet most any need from ultra high speed Thunderbolt 4 connectivity to the old/slow USB A and B port devices (I have several). It also accepts HDMI, and has a Giga bit ethernet port, an audio jack, and very importantly -- a Micro SD card slot. Though unimportant for my needs at this time, it comes with a flexible USB C cable. That allows connectivity to my iPad, any PC with USB port. Did I mention how good it looks? Check out the attached photo, then get one to solve connectivity issues inexpensively.

After upgrading from a 2012 to a 2018 MacBook Pro, I was worried I would have to Invest in a whole new set of new cables and accessories to continue functioning as I had been. While I haven't tried all the ports, the 5 that are the most important for me all function simultaneously. It comes with 2 USB-C ports, so you're only gaining functions. It comes with 2 reversible brackets to sit comfortably on either side of multiple MacBook body styles. One quick note, it is designed to be used only when the laptop is open, but without the bracket you can leave it on while you open and close.

Fits my macbook air perfectly. Allows the use of additional ports without taking up too much space or affecting the performance of the mac. Definitely recommend for those that want to add ethernet, additional screen or other peripherals.

I was happy to be able to get a Hyper accessory that included two thunder bolt, an hdmi, usb, Ethernet, and audio jack ports so I could bring my new laptop home and use with my older infrastructure.

Seems to be a good replacement for some of the dongle cords that I had to use before. It does prevent the MBP lid from fully closing though.

I very recommend this device because it just hooked onto the side of your laptop and you're able to connect more than one device/HDMI or USB and be able to use it
