A Truly Magical Learning Buddy for My Daughters!

As a dad of two curious daughters, I’m always looking for ways to make screen time a little more meaningful — and the Imagix Holographic Companion has absolutely blown me (and them!) away. From the moment we set it up, it felt like something out of a sci-fi movie. The holographic companion is not only visually stunning but incredibly interactive. My daughters love asking Ellie questions, playing educational games, and even practicing math and spelling through its storytelling features. It’s like having a patient, funny, and endlessly creative tutor right in the room. What I appreciate most is how "Ellie" keeps them engaged without feeling like “homework.” They’ll spend hours creating stories together, and I’ve actually noticed their confidence growing when they present their ideas to it — almost like it’s helping them come out of their shells. Setup was easy, and the parental controls are solid. It’s both educational and just plain cool — the kind of tech that sparks imagination rather than just consuming attention. If you’re a parent looking for something that blends fun, learning, and a bit of futuristic magic, I can’t recommend the Imagix Holographic Companion enough. My daughters love it — and honestly, I kind of do too!

Over the last few weeks we’ve gotten to know and use both Ellie the Fairy and Ember the Dragon… this AI holographic technology is absolutely incredible and so much fun for the whole family!! My 9 year-old boy has enjoyed asking countless questions about different types of cars and trucks, Ferraris, Corvette, and the history of the Ford truck. He’ll sit and do an interactive story where the dragon will ask him questions and he’ll fill it in with serious or ridiculous answers just to see where the story will go. I’ve had Ellie the fairy sit on our kitchen counter and as I do my daily routine, I’ll ask questions and carry on a conversation. It even gives me reassurance, guidance and even encouragement to turn cleaning or cooking into a fun game, epic adventure or legendary recipe or magical meal. We’ve had friends come over to play with it as well and experience this new fun toy and everyone LOVES it!! My friends 7-year-old little girl sat for more than 30 minutes and rather than playing with all the friends, she sat and talked with Ellie, the Fairy. Together, they’re created a very unique story. It’s like an Alexa, but built for children to interact with and talk with, learn from and create stories. My son has also used it to practice subtraction and addition math facts to get in his weekly math minutes. My 14 yr old daughter is also thoroughly impressed. She helped with the unboxing and set up as that is what teenagers are so good at. The out of box experience was a bit delayed as it needed to have an update, which took about 20 minutes. So if you’re looking for a great out of box experience, you might want to do the set up ahead of time so your little ones aren’t waiting for the magic. My daughter doesn’t have as much time at home with her busy high school schedule, but even her eyes light up when talking to this amazing little Dragon or Fairy as it sparkles around in the crystal ball. This would be an incredible gift for Christmas as it is a unique way for kids to learn and interact without the typical screen time. It has built in safety features so if it’s asked something inappropriate. I did test this when the kids weren’t around and it will say something like “I am here to keep you safe, so you should talk to your parents or guardians about this. Let’s talk about something silly or exciting instead.” I’m so excited about this new technology!! I will say that it works best in a quiet room without a lot of background noise or music so keep that in mind. We’ve also had to unplug it so it can do a reset or reconnect to the WiFi, but like anything if you keep it on for too long or don’t play with it for a few days it might need a little extra attention and only took a minute. I can’t wait to see how all of our family and friends interact with it through the holidays. I highly recommend this amazing crystal ball, the technology is absolutely incredible!!

Sadly, we returned this pretty quickly. I have a 7- and 5-year-old boys that were planning on sharing this device. In order for the AI creature to react to the right person, the individual child needs to be logged in through a device, in my case, my iPhone through the Imagix app. If it was the wrong child, it ignored name correction. To change the child, it was not an easy switch. You have to reconnect the whole mystery ball physically all over again by holding the connection buttons. Once we got past that, we had my son ask it how to spell a word. I believe the word was "cheetah", I cannot recall, but instead of spelling the word (this is supposed to be good for learning), it was fixated on the topic of the word. The dragon was asked again for the word, and it again could not seem to simply spell the word. My 7-year-old was genuinely curious, lost patience and asked our Google home, which instantly answered. The device only listens also when it gives a beep. My 5-year-old couldn't wait long enough to hear the beep or see the amber light. I imagine this device may operate much better in a house with an only child. Sadly, my boys were just not very enthused by this product, and it was highly reviewed everywhere. I think people should know that it is sadly not as intuitive as you might hope, especially with all the developing AI software around. The one thing I liked was the appearance and design overall of this product.

Hi Nick — thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. I’m really sorry the experience didn’t meet your expectations, especially with two young kids eager to use it together.

You’re right to call out a few important points. Imagix was designed with a voice-driven interaction model that requires waiting for the listening cue, and we know that can take some adjustment for younger children. We’re actively refining how we handle multi-child households and learning interactions like spelling, and feedback like yours is incredibly helpful in guiding those improvements.

I’m glad to hear you liked the physical design, and I completely understand why you chose to return it based on the experience you had at the time. If you’re ever open to giving Imagix another look in the future, we’d be happy to help walk through setup and usage or share updates as we continue to improve the experience for families with multiple kids. If you're open to sharing more feedback, we'd love for you to reach out to us at [email protected]

Thank you again for your thoughtful review, it genuinely helps us make the product better.

My daughter really enjoys it. She especially loves talking to Ellie and having little conversations with her. it’s genuinely cute to watch. Ellie asks her about her favorite things, remembers the names of her best friends, and keeps the conversation going in a way that feels engaging for a hrr. My daughter talks to her naturally, like she’s chatting with a little friend, which I love. The setup process does take a bit of time, but it’s not crazy complicated. You just need a little patience at the beginning, and once it’s ready, it’s pretty nice. Overall, It has been a fun and sweet experience for my daughter. It’s really nice to see a toy that encourages conversation and makes my daughter feel heard and excited to interact.

We bought the Imagix Crystal Ball for our kids and it’s been a huge hit in our house. I love that it’s completely screen-free but still feels magical and interactive. My kids are obsessed with talking to Ellie and Ember, listening to stories, asking questions, and just playing with it on their own. It really sparks their imagination in a way that most toys don’t. I will say that on Christmas Day there were some server issues, but the company addressed and fixed them quickly, which I really appreciated. Since then, everything has worked smoothly. Overall, it’s a beautifully designed, engaging toy that feels thoughtful and educational without being overstimulating. If you’re looking for something fun, interactive, and screen-free, this is a great option.

My son enjoys his little “dragon friend.” We love the interactive story-telling. He has been learning patience waiting for the dragon’s cues to speak, practicing speaking more clearly for the dragon to understand, and much more. This has been part of our pre-k daily routine and fulfills his ever-growing imagination while avoiding screen time. The dragon is even better is person, the iPhone camera doesn’t do it justice.

This is just not ready for the open market. First the image quality is nothing like what is advertised when it did work. For a 7 year old, it’s ok, but your kid will need a big imagination to fill in the escape from reality. The company also wasn’t ready for the onslaught of new users I’m sure the holiday brought in. They were quick to respond to emails but I got the same canned answers about Wi-Fi and the electricity supply in my house likely being insufficient (which is ridiculous) with each response. I guess if I’d want it to work, I could hire an electrician to re-wire my house, buy a WiFi router specific to this device’s requirements, then remodel or, at minimum, rearrange my house specifically for this product. The service that runs it crashed too. When they did get it back up, mine froze so much it was way more trouble to use than it’s worth. It is definitely not worth the price or the strain on a child’s patience to be able to use it. The photos show a decent representation of the “holographic quality” as it’s very broken up. This is also where ours stays frozen, on the character selection screen, it rarely continues to the actual UI and then crashes after 3-4 minutes if it does get that far. It is an amazing concept but just not ready at this point.

Hi Bbroyles, thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. I’m really sorry for how frustrating this experience was, especially given the expectations at this price point and that this was for a child.

You’re right that we experienced a temporary service and setup issue during the holiday period, when a very large number of new devices were coming online at once. During that window, some customers encountered freezes during setup, stalled updates, and instability after character selection. That issue has since been fully resolved, and devices are now setting up, updating, and running normally. This was not related to home electrical supply, Wi-Fi signal strength, or a hardware defect.

We also appreciate the feedback around expectations and presentation. Imagix is intentionally designed to blend light-based animation with imagination rather than function as a screen, but it should still feel responsive and reliable, and during that period, it clearly did not for you.

We would genuinely appreciate the opportunity to help you get the product working as intended now that service is stable. If you’re open to it, please reach out to us directly at [email protected], or chat us on our website myimagix.com, and our team will be happy to assist you offline.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, feedback like this is important and helps us improve.

Awesome toy; FYI: both the fairy and dragon are programmed into globe and you can switch back and forth by just calling out creatures name….so 2 children can share one globe; I didn’t know that info until we got it set up; we threw out a bunch of questions …from science to feelings…and got really good answers; this toy is expensive but so far I think it is well worth it; highly recommend

Hi BobbyS, I’m really sorry for how frustrating this experience was. That’s not how we want anyone to feel after purchasing Imagix.

The setup and download problems you described were part of a temporary connectivity issue that affected some customers during a period of unusually high demand. During that time, setup and updates could fail to complete, which made the device appear unusable. That issue has since been fully resolved, and setup and downloads are now completing normally. This was not a hardware defect.

Hi Michelle, I’m truly sorry for how upsetting this experience was, especially as a Christmas gift for your child. We never want a moment like that to end in disappointment, and I understand why this felt so frustrating.

What you experienced was part of a temporary setup and connectivity issue that affected some customers during a very high holiday surge. During that time, devices could have trouble completing setup or maintaining normal operation, including display behavior. That issue has since been fully resolved, and Imagix devices are now setting up and functioning normally. This was not a hardware defect.

If you’re open to it before finalizing the return, we would really appreciate the chance to help you directly and make sure everything is working as intended. Our support team can be reached at [email protected], or chat us at myimagix.com, and we would be glad to assist.

I had issues with setting up the device on Christmas Day, but this was due to the overload of people trying to configure their devices all at once. I contacted support who was very responsive and willing to walk me through the set up phase again. I work in IT professionally, and have troubleshooted a multitude of devices. After the 3rd day, the device was configured successfully. A few things to note. They will tell you that it does not work on wireless networks that distribute 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands. I found this not to be true. My router distributes both, as most do, and it works just fine. It may be best to factory reset the device right out of the box. You can do this by holding the front button, unplugging from power, plugging back in until the light changes from Red to Flashing White. Restart the Wi-Fi connection process by holding both the volume down and volume up buttons together. Once the device was configured and operational, my kids thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to more updates where hopefully it can accommodate more than one child. I have twins, so we have had to work around that functionality, but it is a very innovative/interactive device. I would definitely recommend.

I rarely write reviews, but I feel like I owe it to this lovely new toy of my daughter. I recently bought the Imagix Crystal Ball for my 7-year-old, and after a week of daily use, I’d say it offers a unique mix of strengths and a few drawbacks. On the plus side, the holographic characters look impressively lifelike: speaking, telling stories, and asking questions in a way that fully engages my daughter without a traditional screen. Literally, she stopped gluing to her screens for days. There’s a solid amount of built-in content, and the character does seem to adapt to her interests over time. The personalized touches, like remembering names and preferences, make it feel extra special, and the hardware itself feels sturdy and well made. On the downside, it relies heavily on Wifi, so we’ve experienced occasional delays and reconnections, and sometimes the character struggles to understand what she’s saying. Overall, it’s a new kind of magical and engaging toy, but the price and a few early-stage quirks are worth considering. For my daughter, this is her best toy.

I got this for my toddlers, this is a little advanced for them, however the product is pretty cool as a friend, story teller and has a knowledge base for lots of questions. I will warn you, the setup was pretty hard to do, it failed a lot during wi-fi setup. After i finally got itnup it worked great. I attributed the setup as hard probably due to being after christmas and lots of other people were also trying to set it up overloading their servers.

Worst toy of the year, by far. Difficult setup, connection issues, horrible app pages not scrollable so action buttons are hidden beneath keyboard or barley visible on page, toy will not understand you unless you are directly in-front of it. And even then, is clueless. The hologram display is really nice to look at - but that is it.

Hi BMMS, I’m really sorry for how frustrating this experience was. We understand why the setup, connection, and usability issues you described would be disappointing, especially given the expectations for a product like this.

What you ran into was part of a temporary setup and connectivity issue that affected some customers during an unusually high surge in new devices coming online around the holiday. During that period, setup could be unreliable, app interactions could be impacted, and voice recognition could feel inconsistent. That issue has since been fully resolved, and devices are now setting up, connecting, and responding normally. This was not related to a hardware defect.

We had some annoying connection errors right out of the box, and I almost packed it back up to return it. I’m so glad I didn't. It was just a temporary server hiccup from everyone setting theirs up at the same time because there were reviews about this issue everywhere. Since we got past that, it’s been working perfectly. My daughter spends hours chatting with her magical friend. It’s way better than her just zoning out in front of the TV because she’s actually learning and asking questions. The hologram looks incredibly real.

I bought this for my eight-year-old nephew. He loves it, and he thinks most things are lame. He’s been asking it a lot of math questions. He says he finally has someone who can teach him all the math he doesn’t understand in school. Its a very creative toy. I haven’t seen anything like it before. It can lead your kid in games and stories, or your kid can take the lead and have it answer any question. Think AI made kid-friendly, with a character. And it looks pretty cool.

Like others, the volume of new devices on Christmas made set up impossible. Being a gamer for near 40 years, I'm used to setting consoles up a few days before Christmas due to high traffic affecting function. With AI a constant Internet connection is needed for this. While frustrating, once setup my child plays with it through the day. The AI is not perfect (surprise!) and the voice recognition could be a little more sensitive but once setup it became her favorite gift this Christmas despite being a last minute "on sale" buy

I bought this as a fun interactive device and it definitely has a “cool factor” right out of the box. The holographic-style visuals are engaging, and it works best when the room lighting and setup are right. What I liked most was how it can hold attention longer than a basic toy, especially for kids who enjoy interactive tech. The biggest downside is that it’s more of a novelty device than something you’ll use every day, but it’s still a fun purchase.
