The Insignia 3.1 Cu. Ft. Mini Fridge with Top Freezer is a solid choice for someone with limited space, a dorm room (perhaps), or who desires an extra refrigerator/freezer combo, but wants to take up a small footprint in their home/garage. However, with convenience being a decision-maker here, this mini-fridge provides adequate cooling (the fridge portion), but the freezer temperature is less than desirable. Pros: No "setup" required Quickly cools Light/portable Cons: The freezer is not cool enough Out of the box, the Insignia Mini Fridge is easy to remove (it is recommended to leave the fridge upright in the box, and carefully cut the box sides to expose the fridge for removal and setup). Important: It is recommended to read the instructions, as they indicate that once a location is chosen, before plugging in, you will need to set the temperature dial (in the fridge) to "max" cooling, then plug in (this is honestly the only "setup" required for this particular fridge/freezer combo). After waiting a couple of hours for the fridge/freezer to "cool," I carefully removed the inside packaging (tape, cardboard) from the shelves. I placed warm cans of pop inside the fridge to see how long it would take for them to become cool. After an hour, I checked the cans, and they were cold to the touch. Additionally, the fridge portion includes a convenient drawer (for possible dairy products or extra space needed for produce). Lastly, there is one shelf that separates the drawer, where you can (again) place cans (upright) in the fridge. The inside door also provides some storage for additional cans or bottles if needed. More importantly, the mini-fridge is approximately 35 pounds. Although bulky (it is a fridge after all), it was rather easy to lift on my own to move. I placed the mini-fridge inside our garage, where it takes up little space, and it provides functional extra storage for our cans, waters, etc. The freezer portion, however, did not feel "as cool" as I assumed a freezer would "freeze" or feel. To test this, I filled water inside the small ice tray (provided by Insignia) to see how long it would take for the ice to freeze. After two hours, I checked to find that the water had not frozen over yet to make ice. I waited an additional hour and checked again to see that the water was frozen this time, but once I popped out some of the ice cubes to see if they were frozen, a few fell out (one still had sitting water in it). After this test was complete, I decided to place one small (microwavable "TV Dinner") inside the freezer, right when I picked it up from the grocery store, to see if it would "stay frozen." After an hour inside the freezer, I took the TV Dinner out to find that it was cold, but it did not "appear to be frozen." When I took the meal out of the package, it was "somewhat" frozen. Again, the fridge portion was fine, and the temperature was adequately cool (cans remained cold, etc.) However, the freezer portion was rather disappointing during my testing phases. A quick note, the temperature dial inside the fridge (which controls the temperature for both the fridge and freezer) was set to "max" temperature, and there was no separate knob/dial for the freezer. A separate control option may be considered for just the freezer portion of this Insignia mini-fridge freezer combo. Maybe then, the freezer can be trusted to adequately "freeze" any foods or ice that may stay inside. Overall, the Insignia 3.1 Cu. The Ft. Mini Fridge with Top Freezer provides functionality for small spaces. The fridge may be moved easily by yourself, as it is not too heavy (just bulky). However, the top freezer failed to meet my expectations. Food was cold, sure, but I'm not sure I would trust any "keep frozen" foods inside.

This Insignia 3.1 cubic foot mini-refrigerator with a top freezer is a welcome addition to my home. It is small enough to place in just about any room and light enough to move easily. I ended up putting it in the garage next to my larger freezer. I like having the extra space to keep foods. It came in very handy during this past Thanksgiving when I ran out of space in my kitchen refrigerator and my garage freezer due to having to cook for thirteen people. The cooling is very good. It reached an adequate temperature of about 35 degrees Fahrenheit about two hours after plugging it in. The freezer section is a true freezer, not just a little freezer shelf inside the main unit like on so many compact refrigerators. The stainless steel finish is a nice look and should fit into just about any decor. It does not have a “cheap” look like other compact refrigerators I have used in the past. The true test is time and I will have to see if this compressor will go at least five years, but so far I am very pleased with this compact refrigerator.

Freezes liquids. Hard to regulate the temperature. Too small. Not practical.

Very nice for office. Wish there was more storage and shelving rearrangements, but it gets the job done and keeps my stuff cold. Lots of area on top to place things if needed.

Summary: The Insignia - 3.1 Cu. Ft. Mini Fridge with Top Freezer is a good low-cost refrigerator when you don’t want a full-size unit. Easy on the eyes, and easy to install. And VERY quiet, so great for a small room. Pro’s: - Maintains a cool temperature. - Compact, unobtrusive design (neutral stainless steel looks good). - Easy to install (only 55 lbs, and thin dimensions). - Reversible door hinge for easy installation. - Adjustable glass shelves - Interior light - Quiet - Can stick magnets on the door. Con’s: - It is what it is, maybe I am not picky enough… but nothing negative to say. Matter of Taste: - I’m not a fan of the interior bottom back hump design, but it makes the whole system compact. - I might have wanted a little more refrigerator space at the cost of freezer space because I use this primarily for keeping drinks cool. - Freezer actually freezes, but slowly. The more you open the door, the more warm air you let in. it is sensitive to the temperature setting. - Seems like everything is connected these days, but there is no App for this. Personally, I am fine with that. More Words: Not much to say, if you want a small refrigerator with a freezer, this one will do the job. One thing I appreciate over my previous ones is how quiet it is. AND I like how it looks, neutral so you forget it’s there. It has a brushed aluminum finish, but yes, you can put magnets on the door. Mine is in my office, but I can see this fitting in a lot of places, garage, dorm room, or downstairs bar.

Works Great; Just What I Needed

I got this fridge because it's the perfect size to fit in my utility room just off the kitchen to store extras when our kitchen fridge is full. I put meats in the freezer and cold drinks in the fridge. It took a couple of days of adjusting the temperature dial to get the temperature setting just right. Once I found the right setting the fridge temperature has been consistently staying in the high 30s, just where I wanted it, and the meats have frozen solid and stayed that way. The fridge has 2 glass shelves, with enough room to stand canned drinks on the upper shelf and lay cans down on the lower shelf. There's a generous sized crisper drawer below the shelves. The door storage has 3 small bins that can hold a couple of 5 oz. yogurt cups each, and compartments for a half gallon milk carton and a 1 lb. butter carton. The .9 cu ft freezer has no shelves but does have a door compartment. The doors are reversible, mine came with the doors opening on the left, which is what I needed, so I didn't have to change them. The door fronts have a stainless-steel look and the rest of the fridge is a dark brown. Overall, I'm very happy with this fridge. It's nice looking and working well. Just what I needed.
