After years of purchasing other “Brand Name” dehumidifiers, only to have them last one or two seasons at most, I decided to try BestBuy’s Insignia brand. What a pleasant surprise! This unit is equal to or better than all the others I had. Right from the start, the build quality became readily apparent. Despite having a “plastic” body like the rest, this unit is “Whisper Quiet” There is no loud annoying hum or buzz from loosely fitting plastic components like the others had. Also, BOTH the fan and compressor (when it kicks on) were much quieter as well. In fact, at first I thought it wasn’t operating properly - it was so quiet. However, in under a few minutes, the outgoing air turned warm as the compressor kicked in - and in 24 hours or less, my damp basement became nice and dry. I use a higher end Temperature/Humidity Guage, and I could see the humidity dropping without the ambient temperature getting “too warm” - a perfect balance. There are some really nice features such as a “Comfort” setting, which lets the humidifier adjust itself to achieve a comfortable relative humidity based on the room temperature. The two fan speeds were more than adequate, though I was concerned at first since previous units had 3 speeds. The bucket is designed to slide out sideways, unusual but not a problem. The capacity is fine for me, on average it only needs to be emptied once a day unles we’ve had a real run of hot and humid weather. The Humidistat is reasonably accurate - coming in about 5% higher than my “stand alone” digital guage. It has a host of other nice features - like a “set” mode, where you can set the humidity level you want and the unit will turn itself on and off to keep the room within a few per cent of your desired setting. The auto-shut off works perfectly - shutting off the unit “before” the reservoir becomes full to the top - a nice touch to avoid spilling it on the way to the sink or wherever you’ll be emptying it. The display is clear and easy to use. The only thing I would like to see changed, is getting a power cord longer than six feet. In many older homes and basements, outlets are not always in convenient places - having even two more feet would make a positive difference. I purchased this unit on 6/29/26, so I can’t speak for how long it will last. However, the price point is attractively low enough to allow for the purchase of an extended warranty - should you want to “hedge your bet”. Taking into account that Insignia is BestBuys own brand, warranty claims (if needed), should be a much easier process. In short, it works great, is nice and quiet (despite reviews to the contrary), has a great price point and a lot of nice features. I would definitely recommend this unit.

Can't go wrong with Insignia Dehumidifiers

I really like the shape of this dehumidifier. It fits perfectly in the spot where I need it near my sump pump, and that alone makes it stand out from the usual big, bulky bucket-in-front designs. It feels like some thought was put into making something that works better in tighter spaces. The fan is impressive and moves a lot of air, which is exactly what I wanted for a basement storage room that we’re turning into a workout space. The main goal here is getting rid of that damp basement smell, and so far it seems to be doing a good job. Right now my basement is naturally sitting around 45–50% humidity, so it has not had to run a ton yet, but the real test will come during the humid summer stretch after a couple of rainy days. Setup was easy. I connected a drain hose without any trouble using an inexpensive hose, and I’ll be draining it straight into my sump pump well, so emptying the bucket is basically a non-issue for me. The controls are standard and simple to figure out, which I always appreciate. I've been running on continuous for about a day now just to get used to it, but I'll switch over to set and keep the humidity around 40%. It is not super quiet, but in fairness I’m using it in a very quiet storage room where any appliance would stand out. For me, the strong airflow and design are much more important than whisper-quiet operation. Overall, this feels like a great fit for my basement and exactly the kind of equipment I needed.

Bought this as a replacement for my last Insignia 50 pint that failed under my extended warranty (Best Buy returned my purchase price of the original). I've had numerous styles and brands over the years and the Insignia is on par with the so called name brands which are actually made by various other off-brand manufacturers. Since I've only had this unit for 1.5 week in service in my basement (approximately 1900 square feet), it's a bit early to have a strong opinion. I've been using it on high fan speed set at 50% humidity. It took my basement about 5 days to come down from around 67% humidity. My separate hygrometer in the basement (not the one on the dehumidifier) is displaying 47% humidity. There is good airflow but since it blows straight up, there is no control of the directionality of the air flow. I attached part of an old garden hose to the unit so it can flow directly into a floor drain since I don't care to empty it daily. The water bucket is removed via the side so that could be an issue for some folks. The most unusual feature is the room humidity display. It appears to be an instantaneous humidity reading which means that its readings move up and down constantly. When it's not running, the humidity reading is rising until it hits a threshold to turn on (for my setting it seems to be around 61% humidity) and when it is running, the humidity level drops until the reading is just below the set point (50% for my setting) then the unit/fan shuts off and the humidity numbers on the display start to rise again. I didn't like this at first but am getting used to it and now find it an interesting but different feature. At this early stage the dehumidifier is doing what I need it to do. Hopefully it will last. Only time will tell.

I’ve been using the Insignia 50 pint dehumidifier for a little while now, and it’s been a really helpful addition to my home. The only thing I struggled with at first was getting the wheels snapped into place. It took a bit more strength than I expected, but once that was done, it’s been easy to move around. I like that it’s compact but still powerful. I’m able to roll it between my en suite bathroom and my laundry room depending on where I need it, which has been really convenient. We shower a lot since we go to the gym often, and leaving it on the comfort mode in the bathroom has made a noticeable difference in moisture and overall air quality. The different modes are actually useful too. The dryer mode has been great in the laundry room when I’m air drying clothes. It definitely helps speed up the drying time, especially for items I don’t want to put in the dryer. It holds a good amount of water, and even though it’s doing a lot, it doesn’t take up much space and looks clean and simple in the room. Overall, it’s been reliable, easy to use, and does exactly what I need it to do.

Setup was very easy. The wheels are in the water bucket so we had to find them first. It’s rather small, more wide than high and looks good if you want if for somewhere else besides the basement. We put it in our basement, we have a lot of humidity there. The display is bright blue & easy to see. It runs quiet. Humidity range is 30-90%, we set it at 50%. It doesn’t run constantly when level is set which is what I prefer. . I was impressed at how much water was collected in the bucket. The display reads P2 when bucket needs emptying, the bucket has a handle and is easy to dump but I feel the bucket could be larger because it needs to be emptied often. I like the fact that is starts running again after bucket is emptied & reattached. Eventually it will be connected to our drain to avoid this, I just wanted to see how much moisture it would actually remove. Fan speed, timer & mode can be set. There are 4 modes, set, continuous, comfort & dryer for clothes. The filter is on the back & can be easily removed and cleaned. Besides the small water bucket, I’m liking this so far!

Easy set up. Pulls a lot of moisture from my large basement. Easy to move around, and more compact than I thought it would be. The only thing that needs a bit of redesigning is the water tank - take a little bit of force to remove and needs a bigger water dump area - not a deal breaker by any means.

I have a lot of moisture in the back of my house and this thing kills it. The worst and best thing is that the bucket fills up fast and it's a lot of water, so I will end up hooking up a drain tube. But the humidity is down 20 points since i put this in and now maintains 45% humidity which is way better ... and it rolls around easy and it is just nice, doesn't overheat the air either. Love this thing!

3D prints improve in drier environments.

As far as dehumidifiers go, this Insignia model has everything I need and want. Affordable and easy to move from room to room. Simply just plug in and start using for a drier environment. Energy Star compliance to be a bit more frugal since this will often run for hours to draw the moisture out of the air. Decent capacity for condensate if not using a hose and floor drain. My main use will be lowering humidity for when I am running my 3D printer during the east coasts humid summers. Pros: Energy Star compliance Affordability Portability Clothes dryer feature Cons: Condensate bucket does not have drain hole(s) No drain hose included Overview: The overall operation of this Insignia dehumidifier is simple. Plug in, turn on, and choose a level of humidity or just select continuous mode and it will run till it reaches the lowest humidity achievable, 35%. You can also set a timer to run from 30 minutes to 24 hours. Or even use the warm air exhaust to dry clothes. Great for delicate fabrics that must be hung to dry. There is 2 fan modes, both speeds are louder than most would want to sleep near, but not obnoxiously loud. Similar sound to Max A/C top fan speed in a vehicle. 3D printing: For me, this is my second dehumidifier. I have one in the basement for when seasons change quickly and humidity ramps up. I picked this Insignia unit for improvements in my 3D prints. My 3D printer prints are much improved when the plastics and the environment are below 40% humidity. I still use desicant and special dryers for the filament. The dehumidifier just makes all of that work better and last longer when humid days in summer can push indoor humidity into the 60%+ range. Negative: My only trivial negative in the week of using the unit. The designers should have left a cutout on one of, or both corners to easily pour the condensate out. The current design has water leaking through all the edge gaps and not ideal if emptying anywhere other than a bathtub. Tip: manufacturer may disagree One tip I have used for years with my dehumidifiers. Spray one or two trigger pulls of bathroom mildew cleaner into the condensate bucket after emptying to prevent any future mold issues. When running my dehumidifier on a regular basis it can take several days between emptying and this prevents mold in the reservoir for me.

A nice dehumidifier. Very well built unit! I have it in the basement and it's doing well so far considering the hot and very humid that week of the 4th. Not very loud whether it's on the lower high setting. The casters make it very easy to maneuver. I like the LED display which is bright blue. I would recommend it !

Overall, this dehumidifier has worked reasonably well the month I've owned it. (It doesn't seen as effective as my prior 50-pint Insignia model. Although it may be more related to current weather.) A few highlights: - The bucket is smaller than a traditionally engineered dehumidifier. Although it's easier to open/close and clean stray "drips" from the interior. - The prior three dehumidifiers I've owned (a Honeywell and two Insignia) have lasted between 14-24 months (all Chinese manufactured) before their coolant leaks. A recommendation I've heard it to force the compressor to run at least monthly to encourage longer seal life. Your mileage may vary. - This unit blows exhaust air upwards, which is unique and may be useful (or detrimental) in your circumstance. - Note there are only two fan speeds (three is common). Noise levels are typical: loud but not annoyingly so. - Cats approve of the lower flat surface.

We've been using this dehumidifier on our basement for a couple months and it is doing a great job of holding the humidity around 55%. The basement is around 1200 square feet. I've moved a hygrometer around to different parts of the space and all seem to be around 55%. We don't spend much time in the basement so I can't comment on the sound level, but it seems to be similar to other dehumidifiers we've had. Without it the humidity in the basement would be above 70%.
