Customers highly value the iTap 2 Magnetic Universal Air Vent Car Mount for its strong magnet that securely holds their phones, and its ease of use. While some customers appreciate its adjustability and how well it holds their phones, others have concerns about its compatibility with wireless charging, its tendency to fall off, its weight, its small size, and its expensiveness.

At first I didn’t realize you had to put the magnet (supplied) on the phone. The mount fits nicely in the vent and tightens well. The phone does not come off when going over bumps. The best part is not having to loosen anything to get the phone off, you just have to take it off. If talking on the phone it’s within a good distance to hear on the speaker.

Nice little phone mount. Magnet is strong, my iPhone hasn’t moved at all in either portrait or landscape while driving, speed bumps, or just gravity. I like that it is very minimal and blends right into my dash. Would recommend and buy again.

Excellent solution to use on a 2021 Mazda 6! It is nearly impossible to find something that works for the Mazda 6 vent design without spending a fortune on a custom mount. Very happy with this purchase.

Works Just OK

Just purchased a 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor. Was looking for an iPhone XR that was not permanent. I didn't want an adhesive mount on the dash. I saw another vehicle with a suction mount on the windshield with a flexible arm but I'm thinking this would partially block my view so it would be unsafe.
The iTap 2 seemed to be the only choice. I say it only works OK, not great because the clamps that tighten around the air vents are CONSTANTLY coming loose. The mount slowly moves itself away from the vent until it will eventually fall off. I have to retighten this this at least once a week. I guess it's the vibrations that's causing the clamps to come loose but I only do city/street driving-not off road on the Baja.
No problems with the magnet(s) or the swivel. I just wish there were better options out there for my vehicle. Perhaps there are. This was the easiest one to purchase at the time.
If dash mounts don't bother you, I would recommend you avoid this product & look elsewhere. Or go for a windshield mount if you can live with the obstructed view.

Concerning the iOttie-iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent Car Mount for cell phones, I’ll simply have to say, “I love this little guy”. It is exactly what I needed, wanted and was looking for, and it works great for my needs. It’s not a cheap, clumsy piece of plastic that so often falls into this category. But instead is designed very well and appears to have been manufactured equally well. It took less than a minute to install the whole product.
The IOttie – iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent cell phone car mount is made with Rare Earth magnets which are very powerful and, surprisingly, 100% safe for smartphones. It fits on the air vent of the car and with about ¼ turn to the left is locked into place.
The product is packaged with two different sizes of metal plates that adhere to the back of the cell phone and these metal plates make it possible for the cell phone to attach to the vent mount. The company strongly recommends letting the adhesive on the metal plate sit for at least 30 minutes prior to mounting the device to the iTap 2 product. However, I use the apple silicon case which fits the phone securely and I was able to place the smaller metal plate toward the bottom of the back (so that it did not interfere with the phone’s reception) and secure the metal plate by placing the case back on the phone.
The rare-earth magnets work beautifully to hold the phone in place while driving. It’s a perfect size and so far, seems near perfect in design.

After going through different mounts for years, I find the 'Air Vent' mounts work better for me. The phone is where I need it, without obstructing the view, and it works in all our cars.
The mount comes with two plates and an optional protecting film.
Use the big plate, which is not painted, on phones that don't have wireless charging, between the phone and the case.
Use the smaller plate on phones that have wireless charging. It's painted black.
The protective film is useful on phones with glass back covers.
The front of the mount has rubber, and the clips that go into the mount are hard plastic with a rubberized coating. Once pushed into the mount, the mount has a tightening ring.
It sits tight and does not move. It does not leave any marks in the car nor the phone.
The magnets are strong. The phone remains in place. Bumps on the road don't move the phone. I'm using the larger metal plate with a thin plastic case.
I had iOttie mounts before in another car and they were made to last.

My car's center console has 2 cup holders which are not really wide enough to hold my iPhone 8+, there is a place for "change but it's not quite wide enough to fully hold the phone, so if I take a sharp turn the phone can fall to the floor. I saw the iOttie magnetic phone holder and thought it a possible solution. My phone has a simple silicon case on it so "hiding" a thin metal plate on the back of the phone was very easy to do. The plate has a pull off adhesive back to "stick" in one place. I found that I did not need the adhesive back, that the plate stayed in place because this case was quite tight. This I saw as an advantage. The iOttie comes with a large and small plate, it seemed to have plenty of holding power, based on your case you may need the larger pad (good to know it's available (included)).
Mounting the iOttie in the vent was pretty easy, with one catch, if you want to prevent it from moving, it's seems best for it to be mounted on the top or bottom horizontal deflector, now the catch, inside your vent there is a vertical deflector, you want the iOttie to be centered on one of these vertical deflectors. If you don't do this there is some wobble, if you properly "catch" the vertical deflector (hard to see w/o a flashlight (don't forget there is one on your phone)) you can tighten the ring on the back and the iOttie should stay stably secured.
Now you can magnetically secure your phone to the iOttie in your vent. It's easy to have your phone securely held while your driving. unless you phone's in a heavy case, folding case, or case with belt clip, you should have nop problem using the iOttie.
I found the iOttie was a better solution than leaving my phone "loose" on/my center console.

I looked at a few of the products offered to hold a phone on a dashboard vent and this looked to be among the best. It does require you to stick a metal plate to either your phone or to the phone case, but gives you two plates so you can chose.
I like that is it compact. All the holders I looked at that had clamping arms around the phone did not seem solid enough. This holds the phone solid enough for all but hitting the worst pot holes. It is also very easy to attach and detach the phone.
The only reason to give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is heavy with the phone attached. This means if your dash vent is adjustable up and down, it will pull it into the down position which may angle the phone out of view. I was unable to use the vent to the right of my steering wheel for that reason. however, since the vent to the left of my steering wheel is circular, I can rotate that so the movement is left and right, not up and down, so it works.
The only other disadvantage goes with any vent-mounted phone holder: it blocks most of the air coming from that vent, be it hot or cold.
The mount does hold onto the vent well and does hold the phone well. it is a good choice if you don't want to sacrifice a cup holder or mount it on your dash or windshield.

I love the fact that its easy to install and that the magnets are strong. It works with horizontal vent flaps but it may bow the slats a bit due to the diameter of the vent clip. My truck has vertical vent slats and it will slide to the bottom of the vent due to gravity and road vibrations so I would only recommend this for horizontal vent applications.
The ball joint has held its position thus far and hasn’t loosened even with less than ideal road conditions. The premium price does include a few things that cheaper alternatives do not have. For one, it has two sizes of metal plates. One smaller one for Qi charging and one larger one for phones without Qi charging. The nice touch is that it also includes a clear plastic sticker that goes on between the phone and the metal plate to keep the plate from potentially scratching your phone. The face of the magnetic mount is rubberized to help keep your phone from sliding or spinning on the mount when attached.
Although more expensive than other vent mounts, you do get a premium clean look, strong magnets with assorted metal backings and a 2 year warranty.

Travel every week, sometimes 3 rental cars a trip. Using my phone as GPS this magnetic perch works great. Fast to install and remove. Takes next to no space in my computer case. The only drawback is remembering to take it with me when returning the car. It could get expensive. I use the plate that adheres to the outside of my Otter Pop case. The phone is heavy, Galaxy 20 Ultra with glass protector. Did a test trial when I got it. Drove over speed bumps, pot holes, tight fast turns, hard braking., couldn't get the phone airborne, it stayed glued to its perch. It's a keeper and thank God for rentals.
