    Third Time Was the Charm

I very much wanted a robot vac for our new home. Unfortunately, it took three tries before I found the right one. My first and second purchases were both difficult to unpack and neither would upload to my phone. I was so disenchanted that I entertained just going back to my upright vacuum. On my third and final attempt I literally stood in front of the robot vac display and googled reviews for each model/manufacturer. I settled on iRobot 960. It cost more than I originally wanted to spend BUT it looked like it met my requirements. When I git “Hazel” home and opened the box, she was sitting there waiting to be used, no tight plastic wrap, no miscellaneous boxe and with a quick start guide lying in plain view. Go figure!! The upload was so fast and easy I thought something had gone wrong. This iRobot doesn’t have some of the bells and whistles that other robots have but she more than meets my needs. Pick-up is amazing! It’s easy to clean ( I bought a cheap make-up brush) and the charge lasts at least an hour. I get regular iRobot emails and can watch detailed easy to follow videos for any questions that come up. I highly recommend this products The only “con” I have is that in shopping at two different Best Buy’s I had hoped that there would be some robotic vacuum “expert” to sell me on a vac. That was not the case. I had to rely on my own research and trial and error.

I always thought I would vacuum myself, never get tired of it, and would have to wait forever for technology to perfect a vacuuming robot. Then my elderly dog ended up in a diaper, that sheds more then she does. I got tired of vacuuming three times a week, even though I have a vacuum for the carpeted upstairs and another one for the laminate downstairs. I did some research and read a lot of reviews, and waited for a sale. I had it narrowed down to two models, the difference was the GPS function that allows the robot to map out your house & about $140. I went with this model that maps out the area to vacuum and I’m glad I did. I run it almost every day on the laminate floor and every 2-3 days on the carpeted floor. With the map, it vacuums in the same pattern/route every time & never misses a spot. Depending on what I leave out or lift off the ground, it sometimes finds new places to go. It’s never gotten stuck. It does push around light weight area rugs so those need to be lifted off the floor. I love how it goes back to the charging dock when the bin is full, or runs out of charge in the middle of a job. When charged it picks up right where it left off. In the app, you get a map of the area cleaned and the WiFi map the robot made while doing the job. And...you get to name it. Mine’s Gerty, short for Gertrude. I wish I figured this out a long time ago!

This little Robot vacuum exceeded my expectations !!! Easy to get started... Amazing coverage, mapping is great, quieter than I expected and very efficient . The one down side is I wish I would have purchased the one that dumps into the bin automatically , but at $1100.00 that is out of my price range. I paid $400.00 for the 960 and it’s worth every penny!!!

I tried the 805 model from Costco, and while I thought it was very good, it did get stuck pretty often because it feels its way by bumping into things. It would ram into a some bent chair legs or things and get stuck, and sometimes got hung over a drop-off in our living room. Most obstacles it did OK. But the worst problem was that it had trouble docking and I even had trouble orienting it to the dock since it doesn't have a very useful indicator when it docks. So we returned it and got the 960. The vision is very helpful in avoiding getting stuck because it doesn't ram into things... it just detours nicely. The more systematic back and forth is more reassuring; it seemed that the random patterns of the 805 meant that it spent much more time near the dock. The 960 has been very reliable at docking, but it's possible that it's because I realized I need to push the dock against the wall so the robot doesn't push it back. But maybe it's also the vision capability. We do tax ours by constantly moving upstairs or down, so I think that confuses its mapping capability, but it seems to remap readily so its not a problem. The bin fills up with hair and dustballs, so I know it's doing a job on our tile floors. All in all, we are very happy with the 960.

I was very skeptical in this purchase at first. I have Tile floors, but ever since i scheduled the roomba 5 days a week while i am at work it has been life changing. Simple to use, i recieve notifications on where it has cleaned and really feel the difference walking bare footed. I have two girls in my house that shed hair like no tomorrow! Ever since then it has helped tremendously and vaccumed like a champ!

My home is mainly tile with some rugs and the roomba does a fantastic job picking up dirt and clutter on the floor. I do have a dog who sheds a lot and a cat at my home so I have to clean the bin after every use and we generally use it everyday at my home. I’m very satisfied with the product but wish the bin held a bit more.

What a time saver, start it up and let it do the work for you. I have two dogs and keep the floors pretty clean, or at least I thought. I ran it for the first time just a couple of days after vacuuming and had to empty the bin twice! Works great on both hardwood floors and carpet. The only downfall is the battery life, it normally has to head back to the base after an hour.

The pros - Great app and scheduling. Will recharge and come back to finish the job. Has sensors to prevent it from knocking things over. Great for picking up dog hair The cons - Doesn't go up onto our shag carpet, sometimes docks without making contact to charge. Have to empty the trash bin every run, sometimes multiple times

I got my 960 roomba on sale for 450.00. I see they have raised the price. I LOVE my roomba. I recently renovated the entire house with hardwood floors so it was needed addition since I also own 3 Border Collies, the household also includes a husband. :) I opted not to have the automatic empty container which was a good choice for those who have dogs. I empty the bin and clean the filter with each use. It needs to be done. The time it saves me is incredible. I would advise that you limit any rug by your stairs as the roomba tried to commit suicide by falling down 10 stairs on the third day that I owned it. It was a low mat and the roomba pushed it over the edge of the stair and went down. I set my roomba for times that I am away from the house, so the event was unwitnessed, but lucky me....it was not injured. I love the I Roomba app which I can set on my I-Pad. The choice between the 960 and the 980 was easy. The only difference between the 2 is the amount of run time. 75 minutes for the 960 versus 120 minutes for the 980. They have made multiple updates to the earlier versions. I had a friend who lended me hers not sure of the model number but the vacuum rollers are much more pet friendly in dealing with the hair. So the roomba can go over low pile rugs easily....My roomba is my new best housekeeping friend.

    Shark isn’t better

We purchased the shark r100ae with the auto empty base and then returned it for this Roomba 960 and here’s why... The shark seems drunk and sorta lost half the time, gets stuck ALOT, and in general it’s just less efficient than the Roomba. The auto empty base is cool at first but then you realize you have to clean the filter on the vacuum and the base pretty often anyway, so why not just dump the bin in the vacuum manually? The Roomba 960 is smarter, looks like it knows where it’s going, and is more efficient in doing so...gets more of my house clean in actually less time than the Shark. The lack of an auto empty base is not a con at all to me. Haven’t tried all brands, but between Shark and Roomba I’d definitely say Roomba.

Got our second one and will probably get a third in the future. Does a good job of getting under furniture and noise isn’t too bad. Nice to not have to worry about except when emptying. Set a schedule and let it work. My wife’s a neat-freak and this keeps her from not vacuuming with the Dyson more than once every few weeks.

I have owned another Roomba in the past but ran into issues with it when my carpet was higher then it would like. I researched what Roomba would be good for high pile carpet and this one was recommended. I have both a dog and a cat and every time this Room but cleans it finds new pet hair. I love it and highly recommend it.

Does a great job on picking up my Labs yellow hair all over the place. I set the schedule for it to clean every morning and it does its job with minimal issues. The only problem I have with it is I have to empty out the bin after every job completion. Sometimes it fills up while its still on current cleaning job.

"Tiberius" has been a welcome addition to our family. With two big dogs, we does a way better job than I ever expected. I wish the dust bin was a little bigger, but as long as we empty it every other day or so he does exceptionally well. Give it a couple of days to "learn" your room(s) and you too should be happy.

It can become jammed between the furniture and the wall because the space is too narrow to turn around, It cleans in the space okay but cannot get back out. This was fixed by moving the furniture about half an inch to give it more room to turn around. It even cleans underneath the bedroom dressers. It can be a little messy to empty when it is full.

We absolutely LOVE our Roomba! We recently bought a large condo and needed a machine that could go back and charge, then finish the job. This one is perfect! Every once in awhile it will get stuck on something (usually the bathroom rug) but more often than not will get itself free and continue cleaning. We run ours everyday while we are at work. It's great to come home to a freshly vacuumed house!
