    Long Time Klipsch Fan Disappointed

So, I have been a long time Klipsch fan since my first set of Synergy KSF 8.5 floor speakers. Klipsch had been long known for their roots in MUSIC reproduction sound quality and accuracy. As they evolved, they blended the aspects of home theater very well, while retaining their original musical qualities. Fast forward to today, and for the first time, I am disappointed in a product I've purchased from them. Musical quality is non-existent. Maybe I'm just backward from popular opinion of what "good" means, but more or overly tuned is not always better. This was purchased to upgrade the sub in our main family room. It's not huge, but not small either. This should have fit the bill perfectly. The sub it replaced was a Polk PSW10. THAT sub is a fantastic gem that is very well rounded for general use (ie. home theater AND audio equally with minor compromise to both). Right out of the box, the Klipsch sub was boomy and fatiguing to listen to. I tried every type of music, different blu-rays, and just about every level, crossover point, setting between the sub and receiver I could think of. In all cases the sub continued to be boomy or lacked fullness when I could finally get the boom to an acceptable level. And yes, I do understand the concept and need for a break-in period, and understand what should happen to the sound during the process. The starting point for this sub isn't even remotely where I expect a well rounded sub to begin sound quality wise. Does it hit hard? Yes...and it will rattle windows. I can't argue that. However, it severely lacks the warmth, smoothness, and range I expect from Klipsch based on my past history and passion with their products. I expected at least 70% of the qualities I have with my RW-12D in my theater room, and essentially only has the boom and rumble. IF you have high quality floor speakers and need something to provide that pressurized, rumbling effect, a pair of these will work well for you. It may even work well if you need basic fill below 80Hz. This is why I rated it 2 stars and not 1, since it CAN fit a specific purpose. However, I cannot recommend this for an overall, general purpose sub. This is a sad, disappointing day to write my first review not recommending a Klipsch product. Sadly, it goes back tonight and will probably get another Polk PSW108, since I bumped the old one to my son and take backs are not a good dad move...

    Best Black Friday purchase ever

Had been looking at replacing my entertainment center sub recently. Got a "5.1 system in a box" several years ago and have slowly replaced each component one at a time. New receiver. New front L/R channels. New center channel. Moved old front L/R to the rear surround positions. Now the old sub had always worked fine. Hit the lows, slightly rumbled the couch, did the job but nothing special. Doing some Christmas shopping on black Friday with other things in mind and BOOM...here this thing is half priced from regular. So of course did some research, read maybe 30-40 reviews, visited multiple sites to check price. Couldn't have gotten the thing cheaper anywhere and never saw anything under a 4 out of 5 review(rare) so I pulled the trigger. Kept the old sub for comparison and in case I received a faulty unit. Turned on the old YouTube, searched for "bass test" and let her rip. Old sub performed as expected; turned way up it rumbled and slightly vibrated the couch. Awesome. Then I plugged the new Klipsch in. Thought to myself "considering all the other great reviews, maybe we'll start at half speed." Turn dial to 4 (of 11) and restarted the test video. OMFG, does this thing BUMP!!!!!!! Deep, beautiful, rattling bass that blew the old sub out of the water...at LESS THAN HALF POWER!!! Whole couch rumbled, coasters floated, walls trembled, glass shattered, pets ran, ears started bleeding....no, only joking, but you get the point. This thing is awesome. Had I known what I was missing I would have replaced the old sub a while ago and would have bought this at full price if I'd heard a demo in a store!!! What I'm trying to say is the thing is amazing, don't be afraid of spending some of your hard earned $$ bc you will NOT regret this purchase. Movies take on a whole new life. Video games make you FEEL the action. Music rocks and...it's still only on 4. Maybe when I get some courage and money to fix the drywall I'll turn the dial up some more.

My first component home theater system - worth it!

For the past few weeks, I've been looking to upgrade the sound system in my man-cave after getting my wife her Sony x900f TV and Z9F soundbar with rears. They sound amazing. In my room, I had a Yamaha YAS-207 soundbar that is less than a year old. I wanted something else that we could build a small theater room with later. I went to a local Best Buy and came across an open-box Onkyo TX -NR676 for $260. When I saw it, my prayers were answered. I bought the receiver and thought about what speaker will I add to it. I went back and forth with Sony and Klipsch. I knew the sound I got from the Sony speakers at home but I have always been interested in Klipsch. I sat and listened to both and read numerous reviews - customers and experts. I eventually settled for the Klipsch. The sale price helped the decision. At 50% off, they were cheaper than the Sony speakers. I bought the two R-26F towers and this 10" sub. I also did the banana plugs - not a fan of bare wires. Once I got everything together and calibrated the speakers, I was blown away! The sound was amazing! I streamed a couple movies and I enjoyed it so much. I streamed some music (70's soul music) from Pandora and was extremely happy. I played a few games of Madden and I have no complaints. I did have to turned down the sub because my daughters bedroom is on the other side wall from where I sit. She is going to kill me in my sleep if I kept it where it was. I later bought the center channel from Amazon because it was way cheaper. In the near future, I will be buying the bookshelfs and Atmos speakers. I don't have the full effect of what my wife has yet and I think that will put me there. I had been looking a Klipsch for awhile but I could not justify the cost. At 50% off, I could not pass it up.

I decided to upgrade my current Polk Audio system because it seemed like my 12” sub was losing its punch after having the system for roughy five years. I decided to go with these copper woven Klipsch speakers after reading all the great reviews on the net and I’m glad I did. These speakers sound awesome and they look great to boot. I spent roughly $1300 on a 5.1 system which isn’t chump change but I knew I wanted good stuff so I had to pay for it. The floor standing speakers sound so nice that they even provide a very good amount of bass on their own. Couple them to the 10” sub and things start really shaking in my house. The center channel has me hearing voices in certain movies that I never heard with my previous Polk Audio system. All in all this is one sweet system that I know I will enjoy for several years.

In my den I have a audio/video system that has a combination of powered speakers (front, left/right Mackie 825 Studio Monitors, back left/right Acoustic Research bi-amped two way systems; and speakers powered by three 900 watt receivers, 1 Yamaha, 2 Oynkio, Center Channel 2 JBL speakers, Presence 2 Yamaha 2 way speaker cabinets, and Subwoofer a Yamaha 12 inch passive sub. The receiver powering the sub began to have difficulties, so I started to search for a powered sub to replace the Sub system. After extensive listening I decided on this Klipsch 10" active sub. I remember Klipsch from the Hersey and the K-Horn days and at first was skeptical the the product offering was currently of anywhere near the same quality. Well this Subwoofer system blew my mind from the first moment. It is a perfect compliment to the rest of my system, Once everything was balanced I found the sound reproduction very near live for symphonic classical and jazz club jazz. This sub performs well with classic rock, pop, world and alternative as well. Just awesome.

This is my first review. Not that I have not enjoyed other products very much so but because this was put to the test and won! I bought a new home with large vaulted ceilings and was having a house warming/birthday party. We had 30 people attend. I knew I needed something to pound so everyone can have a blast and dance. Not knowing, just going off reviews I made the purchase, it was shipped on time the day before the party. And it was phenomenal! You can tell by lifting it, it was quality, it is heavy and well constructed and looks professional. It was loud, precise and not only filled the house with clean bass you could feel and it could handle more! Now having it a month its incredible. It does better with movies than music only slightly but I am sure with some receiver calibrations that could improve as well. I have a Pioneer VSX-1123 , also from Best Buy which I really like as well. Check this sub out, the adjustments on the back you can really dial in quickly to the type of music or movie that is on and preference. Impressive!

I have a Klipsch surround sound system.....RF7-2 floor standers for my right/left front and a RC-64 center channel speaker, two Klipsch dipole rear surround speakers, and two Klipsch bookcase rear speakers, and now 2 Reference 10 subwoofers, hooked up to my 65" Sony 4K flat screen tv, Sony 1080 4K receiver, Sony UHD800 4K blu ray player (which is also used for great CD playing) These two subwoofers make movies so interesting....like one is right in the thick of the action sequences......! Best Buy employees and I conversed on my options and as usual, they gave me great advice....I am SO pleased with my purchases.....all of this is hooked up to my Dish Network satellite system......for tv viewing/music listening etc. I have been a repeat customer with KLIPSCH and Best Buy for years now. Count me as a very satisfied customer. I watch dvd's and blurays and 4K disks......all perform perfectly.....!

I bought mine off of Best Buy from eBay and saved quite a bit. However, even at full retail, this is an incredible value. I am using this sub in combination with my 65 inch Sony A1E OLED TV. While, the acoustic surface is a very good speaker, the 4 inch woofers were severely lacking. I considered a sound bar, but then would have missed the acoustic surface sound where the words seem to come from the speakers mouth! The Klipsch Reference 10 inch pairs perfectly with the TV. I set the audio out to subwoofer, set the subwoofer to LFE for frequency and gain at 0. The sound quality beats any sound bar I have heard! The bass on this sub is tight and not boomy. My current set up is an Apple TV4K with Dolby Vision —> Sony A1E —> Subwoofer connected to these Klipsch. The overall design and build quality is pretty good as well.

I purchased this sub-woofer to pair with the other Klipsch speakers I have connected to my Pioneer SC-91 Elite receiver. I am also using two Klipsch R-15M bookshelf speakers and a Klipsch R-25C center channel speaker, and two small Cambridge Audio cube speakers in surround mode. The Klipsch R-10SW added much needed bass depth to the system. My room is approximately 14' X 28' and there is plenty of bass. I wish it went a little lower to get to the minimum 20Hz range of human hearing but 30Hz is good for now, especially for the price. Setup was simple, especially when using the Pioneers Microphone setup to optimize the output of the Sub woofer based on where I placed it within the room.

I love my new R-10SW provides plenty of bass to my surround set up. I live in an apartment and this sub can vibrate the walls, to bad for my noisy neighbors. Great bass and sound. Love the phase control and the gain control. Works great with my blu ray movies and music cd's. If you live in a apartment I highly recommend this sub. I have a whole klipsch surround set up. 2 R28F's, 4 R15M's and the center channel wow is all I can say. Wife loves our new speakers. Had onkyo boxed set of speakers and receiver. These speakers are worth every penny bought some on sale, some not on sale. The difference is night and day. Heard these baby's at best buy even listened to polk and def techs. I'll take Klipsch any day of the week.

I purchased this as claims are this brand is the best of the best. I installed it, tried it, returned it the same day. My living room is 14X14 feet squared. Hard wood floors with a small throw rug. I could barely hear any bass coming from this subwoofer. The floor rattled very faintly and the subwoofer excursion was massive trying to create bass in my living room. I ended up using a temporary set of 12" MA Audio automotive subwoofers powered by 350watts rms to get some rumble in my living room while watching movies. I'd recommend this if your using it for a computer sound system, definitely not for a home theater system.

I love the Klipsch brand. I had a Synergy 10" almost 9 years then the amp went out. I'm selling it for parts. The woofer on it was down firing while this one faces forward. I like the "copper" look of this reference series woofer even though I will keep the cover on. This enclosure is smaller but packs just as much punch. Fits nicely in the room. Minus one star because the dials on the back are not segmented to the feel when you adjust blindly. I have crossover at 80 and volume turned down to 10 o'clock. This thing is powerful! Sounds great when you balance with your current speakers.

This sub packs some excellent bass - warm and rich. The ported design gives quite a punch. I've owned mine now for 3 months and it's done very well with music, games and movies. Decent frequency response (it does hit the 20-30 hz. range but lacks a bit of the _feel_ you get with a more expensive sub). Perfect for a smaller room (20'x20' or so). It does get pretty boomy and distorted when cranked up 1/2 way or more; it only needs to be set at 1/3rd on the volume knob. It's not going to bring down the house like my old Sony dual-10" 250W-RMS sealed sub used to do but it certainly does the job very well for this price range. I'm very happy with it.

I wasn't sure what to expect for performance when I purchased this sub-woofer, after all it is only a 10" driver, but it's from a name recognized in the speaker industry as building outstanding speakers. I was not disappointed. This sub-woofer can push out enough bass to drive you out of the room without any distortion. I have this running with a pair of R-26F's, an R-25C, a pair of R-14M's and a pair of Jensen bookshelf speakers for a 7.2 surround sound setup. WOW...absolutely amazing sound from the whole setup. I highly recommend the Klipsch speaker brand.

I have a killer Man-cave system so I bought a small woman cave bedroom system for my wife. Sub is paired with new Klipsch R-25C Center Speaker and Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speakers. I bought the smallest sub offered and it still rocks! I turned down the volume to only 10% and now the sub is perfect and musical. Bedroom is large (15' by 20') My wife bought 10 Blue-Ray movies she never watched, she has watched 3 already since I bought this Sub and system! This Sub rocks during "47 Ronin Blue Ray!" When I played it with the volume at 50% it almost blew the wall down and I was like OMG!!! Sub is small enough to hide behind entertainment system in the corner.

I needed to replace our 10" powered sub that stopped working. After doing a lot of research I found for the price point that the Klipsch Reference R-10SW subwoofer was a really good deal. I was debating between the Klipsch R-10SW or maybe going to their 12" sub. The day I went to purchase the sub they (R-10SW) happen to be on sale for half price, so I got two of them. I'm love how low and responsive these 10's sound. In the pics you might see where I added a piece of black felt material on the top of each the sub boxes to prevent any reflection from movie screen glaring on the tops.

Reference Series powered subwoofers shatter your expectations for deep, driving bass by playing louder and going deeper than significantly larger designs, creating the most dramatic, intense bass you've ever heard or felt. Designed from the ground up for class-leading, room-filling low-frequency performance, the RSW-10 is sonically, cosmetically and technologically matched to the Reference Series. Low-level inputs that also operate as an LFE input (for compatibility with 5.1 digital sound formats) and an adjustable low-pass crossover allow you to configure the subwoofer to your room's acoustics. The easy-to-reach, side-mounted volume control makes for simple setup and convenient level adjustments between music and movie sources. djustments between music and movie sources.

This subwoofer likes to be LOUD. It seems to know no other way to be other than LOUD. It is VERY aggressive and seems to want nothing more than to bring down your house. I think it is great for action movies but I do not believe that the sound quality is proper for music unless you listen to mostly electronic, rap, or hip-hop and you cherish bass and volume above all else. Can also tend to get boomy - needed to keep the crossover at a very low setting to tame the boominess. I also got the 12" version of this subwoofer (R-12SW). The 12" version is even boomier than the 10", but the bass is deeper. But, overall, I feel the same about the 12" that I do about the 10".

I am slowly converting my theater system with Klipsch speakers, I really wanted to get the 12 inch but I couldn't pass up the black Friday deal I got on this one but I would have gladly paid full price on this little monster. this sub is an addition to my old Sony sub and the difference is absolutely amazing! this little thing has powerful high range bass and incredibly low bass but when it is balanced with the rest of your speakers, you neighbors have no choice but to listen to your action movies. simply amazing and powerful for only 300 watts. I may buy another one after I am done buying Christmas for everyone else. you won't be disappointed!!

I went to best buy to upgrade my woofer. They did not have a wide array of subwoofers there. My choice was between a Sony 100w, polk 100w, or the klipsch 300 or 450w. In my opinion BIC and MartinLogan should be offered in store. Overall, the subwoofer is what I expected. It has a solid build that should last a few years. There isn't any humming or electrical sounds coming from the amp in standby mode (just saying because many sub amps do not hibernate when power is connected). Bass is consistent between high and low volumes. Excellent subwoofer for listening to music, but not so much for watching a movie.
