Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaPad S145-15 laptop. This is an entry level, light use system with its Intel Pentium processor. It is not meant for multi-tasking or demanding programs. It is good for Microsoft Office and light internet browsing. This model ships with Windows 10 S-Mode 64-bit Operating System. Windows 10 S-Mode provides added security by only allowing APPs available ( and therefore certified by Microsoft) at the Microsoft Store. If you don't need the added security or you need to install APPs not available at the Microsoft Store, you can switch to standard Windows 10 Home 64-bit Operating System, at no additional cost. The screen resolution and graphics don't seem any better than the Dell I bought several years earlier. It also seems to come with less software, plus, the latest Microsoft operating systems always seem to be larger and more annoying than the previous releases.

The laptop itself is okay, but I am a little upset when I purchased this laptop for my son it said that I will get 6 full months(included free) of antivirus program and it did not include anything, bummer. The laptop it's self is okay a good starter laptop.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaPad S145-15 laptop for your son. We are sorry to hear that there was confusion about anti-virus software. The IdeaPad S145-15 ships with a 30-day trial of McAfee virus protection from Lenovo. If there was a separate offer for free virus protection software for 6-months, it was an offer made by Best Buy. We recommend you contact the store you made the purchase at or if you purchased online, try calling your local Best Buy Store for help with your virus protection software. Weak for Windows 10, Processor not avx

Shipping Windows 10 with this machine by default is obscene. It's too weak for that Microsoft bloatware. Cortana is claustrophobic inside this machine. Pretty sure it was impossible to reverse the track pad scroll direction without installing extra support app. So I immediately removed Windows 10 and installed Lubuntu, which made it a reasonably pleasant machine for browsing the web, running Jupyter Notebooks with Python 3 kernel. Then I realized the Pentium Gold 5405U does not support AVX (Advanced Vector Extensions) instructions, which Intel had in other chips back in 2011. For under 300 bucks I guess that's not blasphemous but still...it's not really an exotic feature in 2019.

Windows 10 should not freeze up. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. Locks up ocassionaly. No "hard copy" manual included with item. Slow. Several times the screen would change by just passing the cursor over the screen. I should have returned this but I missed the return deadline. Camera quality is really bad. Forget trying to get Google or you have to go through a whole system change. I have free "Microsoft" office for a year then I have to pay $70/year after the first year to keep "Microsoft office"?
