The Linksys WRT 32X is a router aimed at gamers that want to get the most out of their bandwidth. Provided they have a a PC that has the Killer Networking hardware. When the router senses your Killer equipped PC has connected it will prioritize the bandwidth to your PC regardless of how many other devices are consuming bandwidth on your network. Cool idea but your PC has to be compatible. You can manually prioritize devices in the fancy administration dashboard. Very simple and clean. Other than the Killer Engine stuff this router will function like any other router. You get the 4 Ethernet ports, USB ports etc. Set up is simple and connection stable. Comes with a handy quick start guide as well. I am not a networking guy so I can't comment on any advanced manual settings. I like stuff that just works. Which this does. As far as aesthetics go, it almost has a look of the older Linksys routers but with a futuristic twist. I enjoy the look. The packaging was cool too. If you have a Killer compatible PC than this may be the router for you. If not then you may want to look at a different router.

    Good Gaming Router

This is a good gaming router. It was quick and easy to configure and was easier than others in this respect. I had bought a different Linksys router 2 months previously to replace an older N router and it caused incredibly slow WiFi problems with my Xbox 360. I tried all the recommended solutions but none worked (except direct connection). This router has an N specific band for older consoles and now this issue is resolved. The Killer engine is only good for specific Killer devices of which I have none. It also doesn't have any Parental Controls which I prefer. That being said, I'm also considering using a DD-WRT firmware on it that will give me that option (but we'll see how it works overall with it if/when I do that).

I upgraded to this router and I'm not 100% sure its totally doing the trick. I upgraded my internet download speed before purchasing the router so I wouldn't be hampered with slow download speeds. However I still get buffering when trying to watch videos, a slight improvement over my previous Linksys router even when there is only a couple of devices contending for the bandwidth.

The wireless networking market is changing, especially with the great increase in "whole-home" WiFi systems. This router is highly capable of powering the needs of gamers and non-gamers who wish to really push their network to the limits. Whole home systems really push the "no dead zone" mentality, but more "traditional style" routers are the true workhorses of networking. I was able to game efficiently, while handling multiple streams and a large video download at the same time. Overall, I am happy to see multiple LAN ports, two USB ports, and multiple antennas that maximize connectivity and flexibility. Setup can be done through computer or mobile device, which is typical of traditional routers. There was a good level of router setting customization and initial setup was a breeze. The router looks nice and stands out as a quality and powerful looking device. This was the first time I used Killer Prioritization and the results were good however, I cannot be certain whether this is solely due to the Killer Prioritization or in combination with the software and hardware built in. Range was pretty much as expected for a single unit router. Pros: Setup easy and Quick Highly customizable settings Look and Design Connectivity Speed Killer Prioritization Flexibility Overall, I had the network along with basic customization going in 15 minutes. I only spent an additional 20 minutes tweaking details here and there, but this router is pretty well set to go out of the box. After trying out a few different whole-home systems, it was nice to go with a traditional setup that had connection flexibility and did not rely on an App on my phone. Along with an easy setup, most users should have no problem getting this up and running. I tried to push this router to the limits (which in general is hard to do) but I did not run in to any issues. With gaming, multiple 4K streams, and a 4K UHD download, I was able to game at max efficiency without noticing differences in ping. Generally speaking, I think I was more limited by the servers, bandwidth, and download speed available to me. Even with 100Mbps and 1Gbps, I have noticed that a lot of the issues come from inconsistencies in the server hosts and Internet Service Providers. Gaming with Killer Prioritization showed in decrease in ping by 10-50%. I noticed fewer issues with "lag" or game delay. Overall, I find it tough to identify exactly where issues arise unless you spend time testing each component separately with the same exact metrics. Bottom line, your gaming on consoles and PC (especially those with Killer Prioritization) are going to work extraordinarily well. This router is a definite upgrade. Out of the box it is also nice to see standard gaming prioritization. There are 4 Ethernet ports which are supposed to be better than fast ethernet, it worked well. Two USB ports with one doubling as eSATA, very nice! Flexibility to connect external devices with latest connectivity is an excellent feature. The range was good over 2500 square feet indoors. I highly recommend this router to nearly any user. Cons: None that stand out. Honestly, I did not come across any cons that really jumped out to me. Higher end routers have really come a very long way. This router will not disappoint and should greatly improve your network experience. The range/signal strength did drop once outside. This is not uncommon, but I would have expected slightly better performance. Overall, nothing has stood out to me as a red flag. On a side note, I always recommend trying to maximize the use of Ethernet connections, but if that is limited, the wireless connectivity on this device will be very sufficient.

Over the course of the last year I have tried several top-end consumer routers including the Linksys EA9500 and Velop system, as well as, the Netgear Orbi. Since those reviews I have moved into a different house and was using the Orbi as my workhorse due to the two levels plus finished basement in my new location. I was using a single satellite located in the basement with the Orbi router on the main floor. It worked. I wouldn't say it was spectacular, but it worked. I always had problems streaming upstairs though. Just couldn't reliably stream anything above 15mb/s to the upstairs master bedroom. Adding a satellite might have helped, but I didn't really want to spend the money that Netgear was asking for an additional satellite. In walks the Linksys WRT32X and all I can say is 'Wow!'. That singular device has effectively solved all my streaming problems in my house. I streamed Interstellar to my Nvidia Shield from my Plex server which never would play in my bedroom before with ease. That has 40mb/s spikes and was a buffering nightmare with the Orbi. The WRT32X did it flawlessly. In fact, I decided to stress the router and stream two movies upstairs, one on the main floor, and one in the basement. To my surprise it did it without fail. The range and throughput of this router is pretty mind blowing. I'm sold. The new Linksys software in the WRT32X is superb. Finally, a router that has a good graphical interface and easy to use controls. Everything is laid out well and is very intuitive. Linksys has been making big strides in improving their interface over the last year or so, but the WRT32X is easily the best in my opinion. The router offers special support for devices with Killer networking, but I do not have any to test with so I can only assume it provides further improvement. I did try playing some Destiny 2 on my PS4 Pro over Wi-Fi and did not notice any latency issues or drops. I did have issues with this on the Orbi satellite which I had the PS4 Pro wired into. I would get significant latency issues sometimes. Thus far the WRT32X is working like a well-oiled machine. The router offers both USB and eSATA support of which I tried neither. It also has a four port gigabit switch which I am using all of the ports on. My desktop PC registers 926mbps down and 940mbps up on my gigabit internet connection. My Dell XPS 13 saw 453mbps down and 477mbps up which is the best I've seen from it. Doesn't get any better than that. Overall, I am very impressed with the WRT32X and it is now my new workhorse for the house. I have dozens of Wi-Fi devices in my household and it has offered trouble-free connections since its installation. Time will tell, but for now this is my number one recommendation for a Wi-Fi router.

My old router kicked the bucket. I got this one in hopes I wouldn't need to run an Ethernet cable on certain things for gaming. This router far exceeded my expectations. The speed test has almost no lag even through wifi! The setup was easy yet secure. I'm an avid gamer and highly recommend this router!

I own a Alienware 17 Core i7 with Killer 1435 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi. This is the first time I've tried it out with a Wireless Router and it's been great!!! I typically prefer to play when wired as I've been frustrated with the disconnects on various AP i've used. So far in the past few days, the connection has been solid using wifi. Setup was a breeze as I didn't have to tweak anything out of the box.

If you need a router today, this one is not for you. I've had this for about 3 months. Initially it was wonderful. Great speeds, low latency, it was heaven. Then Linksys released a clearly flawed firmware update, which are automatic by default, and screwed everything up. Until the current issues with the firmware are resolved, I cannot recommend this to anyone. Now I'm stuck with a $300 router that needs to be rebooted several times a day. I've rebooted/reset this thing in the past 2 weeks more than all my old routers combined.Linksys' official "fix" is to rollback to an earlier firmware version - which fixed nothing. Get a Netgear or a D-Link. Get a cheap router if you must. Just don't get this until they correct this issue with the firmware.

First, the instructions on how to set up were first rate. I followed the manual setup and everything worked as designed. Then I disconnected the several year old netgear gigabit wireless router and everything again worked as it should. Max time to install was under 10 minutes and that included removing old hardware and old power supply. Second, wireless speeds were at 433.5 right out of the box. Very nice. Old Netgear did not have wireless AC and was puttering along at 72 at the max. Third, network was rebooted to pull all NAS drives and computers back to where they were - one reboot had them all as needed. I must add that this whole setup process was far better than another Linksys system that I tried a few months ago with the three towers - it never worked as it was supposed to and required a smartphone to set up - you do not need that for this system. I put this system through heavy video download traffic from the three computers that I have networked and the response was superb - it seems that this is faster response time to pages than with the older netgear system even on wired connections which were also gigabit. There is also a very nice addition to the system - a usb 3.0 AND older usb version.

It's a great router with all the bells and whistles. Everything was running smooth for a month til linksys did a firmware update and crashed the Wi-Fi. Everything works when plugged directly in but Wi-Fi is constantly crashing. I spoke to the linksys engineering team and they have no idea when they will patch it.If you get it, don't update the firmware!!! I love the router but I'm upset I have to wait to use my Wi-Fi until they release an update and helpfully don't make things worse.

Purchased this router and was pleasantly surprised by the ease with which to set it up. Instructions were very clear and setup was a breeze. We are ditching Directv and going to nothing but online streaming and the apple express router was not cutting it. With multiple iPods, iPads, iMacs, and several televisions streaming at any one time, this router handled it all with ease. This was my first experience outside of apple so I was a bit leary to do so however the GM at my local BestBuy knows his stuff and convinced me to give it a go and I'm grateful that I did. Linksys certainly put together a great product with this one. Super happy with it and now my father n law is looking to purchase one as well.

    Good performance, limited configurability

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Summary: The WRT32x offers "state of the art" performance for a consumer-oriented wireless router. If this is your only router/networking device, it will work well and provide very good wireless performance. If you have a more complex home network setup, look at Linksys' very similar WRT3200ACM, as the WRT32x has very limited configurability. Introduction: I've tested and used a huge variety of consumer and commercial-grade wireless gear over the years; everything from Aruba to Zyxel. Aside from a few stumbles a couple of years ago, the Linksys WRT series has represented good value in the consumer wireless router space. The WRT32x represents a bit of a departure for Linksys, in that it's specifically a gaming-oriented router. The good: Wireless performance is typically excellent, and was capable of providing the full advertised speed of my internet connection in all parts of my house on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. USB drive sharing likewise showed very good performance, likely due to the fast processor in the WRT. The bad: No support for "bridge mode" or "access point" mode, so it always acts as a router. No way to disable the DHCP server. No way to individually disable either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz networks, though at least you can assign different SSIDs to them. The ugly: "Killer" wireless only works with client devices that have "Killer" wireless, and honestly I couldn't determine a difference in performance, as upstream/provider variations in internet access performance were larger than the variations in ping time or download speed caused by the router or other LAN devices. Linksys' 160MHz-wide channels provide no speed advantage over 80MHz-wide channels, since there are so few clients with 160MHz channel capability.

      Hello, wrbluepearl,

We're grateful for your detailed feedback regarding the WRT32X's qualities. Even though it prioritizes Killer-enabled computers, there are still options to disable that feature and to prioritize any device in the network. We can have our Escalation Engineers discuss with your more guidelines especially in the improving speed performance.
