The speed was great. The online interface for the router can be easily navigated. Best router I’ve ever had. I was really sad when my new WiFi service provider wouldn’t allow me to use this router.

This is a great and simple WRT router. It does prioritize network traffic well for gaming and devices. The WIFI does tend to appear on but stops working and requires a reboot to get it back online. No formal diagnostics and will see if Linksys or DDWRT can work a solution. Overall, works well but needs TLC on occasion.

It's not often that I think about the word "unboxing" when considering a router, but that's what happened when I received my Linksys WRT32X AC3200 router. The box is matte black with a magnetic closure that makes you think "quality". Inside, the router is nicely packaged in custom foam inserts and the box itself is lined with foam like you'd see in a sound-proof room. Not exactly what I've come to expect from the packaging for a router. So far, so good.
In the past, setting up a new router was one of those things that I looked forward to about as much as I looked forward to getting a filling in a tooth. Thankfully, those days are gone. Setting up this router is a pretty easy affair, and you can choose to manually input your settings, or go with a more preset approach. One thing that was especially nice was that there are presets for the most popular DNS providers: Google, OpenDNS or your own ISP. As a user of OpenDNS, I appreciated being able to input my DNS settings with just the click of a button.
If you're setting up the router wirelessly, Linksys offers a temporary WiFi network that you can join to enter the settings for your network. Unfortunately, I found this temporary WiFi to be a bit spotty, as I kept having to reconnect, so I gave up and used a hard-wired Ethernet connection for initial setup instead. If this is your first router, you may find that pretty annoying.
If you've used routers from other manufacturers before, you'll immediately notice that the GUI for this Linksys router is very different. I appreciate that they've worked hard to make it visually appealing and easy to use, but sometimes it felt like settings were either missing entirely or hidden. This can make it difficult to drill down into some of the more advanced settings, but I didn't run across anything that I wasn't able to do.
Linksys combines the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands by default, but you can separate them if you wish. Combining them is a nice feature that allows the router to choose the band with the most capacity. For other routers, you have to switch bands manually if you want to avoid too much traffic on the other band.
This Linksys router automatically checks for firmware updates in the middle of the night and applies them while you're sleeping. This is on by default, so unless you change it, you should ensure that the router is using the correct time zone for your location. Otherwise, you could end up with a router restart in the middle of a big online gaming session!
Strangely, I did not find a way to filter devices by MAC address. This is a pretty common feature, so I'm not sure why Linksys didn't include it. I'll keep digging, because it's possible that I just didn't find it. Another curious omission is the lack of an iOS app that you can use to administer your router. I found this to be a handy feature on my old router and one that allowed me to check traffic and make changes without starting up my computer. Hopefully Linksys will create an app soon.
I like to check my router's log files occasionally to monitor connections over time. Most routers allow access to their log files, and this one is no exception. If you make use of these, you'll want to view them using a tool like Notepad++. Otherwise, you'll just be looking at one giant string of text all put together.
A feature that I've come to rely on over the years is online storage. This allows you to add a USB flash drive to instantly add network storage for the users on your network. Although I tried everything I could think of, I did not successfully access the flash drive via WiFi. The approach that Linksys takes to online storage is pretty clunky and not at all user friendly. Compounding this problem is the fact that you have to go to the Linksys website and locate the documentation on your own. It's not too bad, but I felt that it could be a lot more comprehensive than it is. Some things just aren't explained in any depth at all, which could be a problem for a newbie.
In terms of performance, this router is rock solid. I experienced a strong signal throughout my house, and it was a bit stronger than the router it is replacing, which is about 6 months old. Although I do not have any devices that feature the Killer prioritization engine, I do appreciate the ability to prioritize devices on the network. My sons often complained about signal dropouts on the old router, so I'm hoping that this feature will solve that issue for us. We've been able to use multiple devices connected to the web at the same time while also streaming a movie on TV, with no dropouts or slow-downs. The inclusion of Gigabit ethernet ports is also a nice touch.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this router. It is built like a tank (and kinda looks like one, too) and has performance to match. I haven't had it a long time yet, so it remains to be seen if it outperforms less expensive routers over time. It's built specifically as a gaming router, so if you have devices that are able to take advantage of those features, you'll probably really like this one.

The Game Router to Beat

This dual core WRT32x is very similar to the WRT3200ACM which already is an excellent router. The design difference is that is completely blacked out. In my opinion, it looks much better than the usual blue. But you shouldn’t buy a router based on looks alone if at all and according to my experience so far the WRT32x has a lot more to offer than just looks.
Setup is very straight forward. You can set up 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz SSID as well as guest access. I hate busy and useless dashboards but this is among the best I have seen. It is very clean, has real-time traffic statistics at the top, current internet speed at the bottom and a list of devices to the right.
Clearly designed for gamers inside and out, it has only 4 LAN ports but they are gigabit as is the included WAN port which is a big plus for me since I have fiber internet requiring a gigabit port. The USB 3 and eSATA ports are a must if you use your router as a NAS or just storage and the WRT32x does have one of each and performance was considerably better than my old Netgear NAS which has performed adequately for my needs. If your need is file storage though you might want to consider the Linksys WRT3200ACM instead.
Even if you are not a gamer, you will probably notice increased performance be it wired or wireless, especially on streaming services but keep in mind that this router is designed for gamers and a Killer-enabled PC is needed to really experience its power. Milliseconds do matter when you play online and this WRT32x does improve your odds to beat your opponents even if your connection to the internet is not that all good. It really prioritizes your game traffic above all other streaming devices connected to your network.
On wireless 5Ghz, I was able to sustain 746 Mbps. Actual throughput of 535 Mbps at 10 feet, and 510Mbps at 30 feet. Wired, I got 935 Mbps inside my home network and 928.23 Mbps to the Internet. There are few routers that can beat that but again, the main power of the WRT32x is its ability to give you an edge over other gamers online and it delivered that really well in my tests. Playing Team Fortress on a computer with a Wi-Fi Killer adapter and using a Samsung wireless router, ping took 140 ms. When doing the same test on the Linksys WRT32x, the ping response dropped to 28 ms. Wired to another Killer adapter, latency went from 65ms to 11 ms. All this while I had two 1080p Netflix and one YouTube 4K videos running.
Comparing it to 3 others that I owned before, this is the best WRT to date, especially for games. Superb performance and great value. Highly recommended.

Upon opening the flip lid box you can see the matte finish router immediately and start feeling the sense that you about to own a elite piece of equipment. The WRT32X plays in the higher end price range for wireless routers but in my opinion is justified.
The design for the WRT32X reflects Linksys's continued classic angled look with a matte finish. The overall black exterior matches very well with the LED light panel and antennas and will blend in seamlessly with most decors. The router simply looks like a high end product that is ready to take on any task you throw at it. Contains 4 LAN ports, 1 USB 3.0 and 1 USB/eSata combo port.
Setup is a breeze as the included instructions are easy enough to follow. The settings dashboard is laid out in a way that is simple to navigate and options are easy to find and manage. We have a 200 MBPS/40 MBPS speed package with Optimum at home. This router is getting us about those speeds on the 5GHZ channel upstairs of the house. We live in a 2200 sq. foot. property and have tried numerous wireless routers to maximize wireless ranges and the WRT32X is one of the better options available currently. My ping rate is usually 10-20 ms and the WRT32X is able to get it consistetly around 10 or sometimes a little lower which is amazing. I have not gotten any disconnects so far and all my connected devices are lag free since using the WRT32X. I mainly play shooters like Battlefield 1, COD and Destiny these days and the performance so far has been terrific. No stuttering or lagging of any kind so far via multiplayer modes. I play Battlefield 1 with 64 players matches and the connection has been silky smooth so far.
This product's main star feature is it's Killer Prioritization that reduces peak ping rates. Killer compatible equipment is needed to utilize this option and while I do not currently have Killer NICs, the router's improved performance of my home network is still noticeable. I look forward to purchasing Killer enabled cards and hope gaming consoles also will support this feature moving forward.
I have owned routers from Google, Netgear, Tenda, TP-Link, ASUS and Linksys. The Linksys routers I have owned in the past have usually at the very least been reliable and good. This WRT32X is a great offering from Linksys and I can easily recommend it to serious gamers or for people who are looking for a solid overall wireless router in general.

I had been in the market for a new router, and decided to give this one a try since I love to do a lot of online gaming. Any little advantage you can get is always helpful when playing against other people online.
For starters, this router has a very sleek and cool design. I know most people really don't care what their routers look like and leave them tucked away somewhere in their basement. But his one has a very cool design to it and it proudly sity on top of my desk. I've already had lots of friends ask me about it or what it was just by the look of it.
Looks aside, this router is also a very solid performer! The setup was a breeze, as with pretty much all of the Linksys products I have ever tried. You will literally be up and running in a matter of minutes if you are simply replacing another router.
Performance wise, you can definitely tell the difference! Im not sure exactly how this "Killer Network" works...but I can say that it is killer! I live in a household with 2 adults, and 3 kids. So when everyone is on the wi-fi all at once it can definitely cause some slowdowns and lag when people are watching streaming videos and things and I am trying to game. Its nice that I can now have the priority, cause after all, I pay the internet bill haha! But even while I am gaming, nobody else has complained about having problems streaming videos or anything like that...so this modem does a great job of not only prioritize what I am doing...but also sending a very fast signal to everything else that is connected to it. The other night I was gaming, and there were 3 separate HD movies streaming in 3 different rooms and this thing didn't even skip a beat!
If you are a gamer...this is a must have! I know the price is a little steep, but if you are a serious gamer...it will be worth every penny and then some! I could not recommend this router enough!
