Have been a Swann guy for a decade. Was ready for upgrade to 4K and figured I would give Lorex a shot. Unit has worked flawless to date. It also has worked great with some of my old Swann cameras that I have not gotten on ladders to replace as of yet. Overall pleased with the unit, as I still get use to the new app versus what I have known for so long.

I purchased the Lorax 8 channel, 8 camera Indoor/Outdoor 4K system a few months ago and I’m happy to say it everything I was hopping for and more. The night vision is amazing and in color you can see everything from the cameras well. The system was fairly simply to install me and a friend installed mine works perfect. I have it to where I can see my camera on my TV at any time they can also be set to a computer monitor if you wish to view this way. Lorex thank you for a great system.

Love these cameras! Replaced some old Night Owls with these are they are awesome. Great clarity (day and night), and the night color vision is awesome! Only downside is the color night vision doesn't always work. One night it does, the following it doesn't and with no setting on this model to manually turn off infrared light.

What's Bad: - Excessive reboots - configuring for 4K and a lesser resolution (substream) so you can access remotely seems to overburden and cause restarts, troubleshooting recommends defaulting system which is not 4K recording. - Motion Detection - People/cars limited to 4 channels, and sensitivity impossible to get bigger objects only, mostly picks up bugs and trees, and frequently misses people, attempts to change this sensitivity leads to more reboots and missing people altogether, can't turn off Infra Red which attracts bugs making problem worse. - Frames Per Second Recording limited to 7 - at best you can distinguish a car from a truck on a recording, and you can tell it's color, you can not tell even type of car at 60' away. You can not lower overall quality to increase frames per second, it's not an option, if you attempt to increase bit rate or resolution it increases the reboots. A still object at the same distance is better, but you won't read a license plate, or easily identify model will - Very difficult install and setup, had to hook multiple 1080P TVs to it before I found one that it would recognize, it goes to blue screen if compatibility isn't perfect, once past that, it worked with one of the tv's is wouldn't initialize with. By the time you go through the cable install, you're pretty much committed to it, and that's before you learn the problems. Downloadable instruction manual looks OK at first, but when you really try to understand the settings, it falls way short. It also requires CAT 5e to hook up the DVR to your router with a 6' cable provided, that was another cable fished through the wall for me, seems as though it should have WiFi capability for that, Lorex claims it's a bandwidth restriction, but the cameras are wired directly to the DVR, and that's really just for remote viewing, which is over the Internet, and "substream" which equates to fairly low quality to work. My internal network is plenty fast for streaming many other content services. - It's loud, like listening to fans of a small server running constantly, will require you to turn up your tv a couple levels if you're a lower volume type of person. What's Good: - Live viewing on a good tv directly connected to the DVR, and navigated from the DVR itself (not to a network connected PC, or the IOS/Android app) is a good picture, motion or still. - The software is pretty easy to navigate and make changes, just need better description of what the settings mean (especially as your trying to refine motion detection and stop the system from spontaneous reboots). - The cameras are pretty concise and have a clean look when mounted well (really tough job when going through the soffit, the mount is bigger than the framing behind your fascia, and you have to add support from your attic). The cameras also articulate well to on their mount to get them pointed just how you need them. My Recommendation: If your application is around the perimeter exterior to your house consider a better system if it's in the budget, possibly a Network Video Recorder (NVR) where more intelligence is built into the cam and your running CAT5e/6 with Power over Ethernet, instead of pre-built Coaxial cable with separate power. You can get added benefits of potential audio surveillance and pan-tilt-zoom upgrades with no additional cabling. If you want something for a controlled environment at a lower cost, this may be an OK option, still some challenges with the system itself on reboots though. It almost seems as though when the system is most taxed (like I'm going around the house on a mower) it reboots, and it misses what it is there for in the first place. Turning off 4K pretty much fixes this.

Purchased 7/2/2019, I haven’t installed it yet because attic has been too hot to run wires. Plugged camera in to check it out and looks great. Happy that it came with 4 into 1 power plug. All 4 cameras connect to one plug for power. Could give better review after installing, but to earn points had to do by the 16th.

The quality of the picture is great. Although I only wish I could figure out how to get the mic to work. Also, the floodlight is kind of a joke as well as the alarm. I was expecting more from the alarm at least, not so much the floodlight since it was a small single LED.

The quality is great, cameras are great, hook up was not hard to do. Only issue is that it does not work on wi-fi. If you want to use on your phone you have to have an ethernet hooked up so means more wiring. But if you want to hook up to a monitor you can.

I really like this system. The remote viewing works great and the cameras are very clear. The only downside of this system is the simple fact that it does not have wireless connectivity to my WiFi. It must be connected via Ethernet cable to have remote view.
