We started off with Arlo cameras years ago and after upgrading to the latest version Arlo it seemed to be a disaster from the start. Completely disappointed, we started doing research and found Lorex to be top notch with reviews. After purchasing our lorex system install was super easy and we couldn’t be happier with the setup.

I purchased this and wasn’t sure what to expect. The set up was very easy and straight forward. The night vision is very good as long as there is ambient lighting near and the day time video is excellent too. You can use this system with or without internet but some of the features won’t work without it. I’m happy with this system thus far.

I’ve owned a few Lorex systems and all work good. 100x easier to setup vs the previous models. This system could be the best if the company would spend the time to prefect it!
Camera visually is excellent, the plastic body is horrible. The crack very easy and good luck trying to get the company to write you back!! We had one camera act up showing lines in the image but they come and go.
The app is ok and is where they need to spend the time.

I wants a security system, and got this one after returning a wireless....this had excellent feedback, hardwired yet easy to set up, highly customizable, app gets you internet access. Once it is set up, very easy to tailor cameras and alarm, motion lights, and motion detection area. Well worth the money!

I can honestly say gay I love these cameras! They are so clear and almost have no lag time. My only complaint is they have no sound which I wish they would’ve had but we already bought them and all the accessories once we realized it was not possible to have sound. The gentleman at Best Buy told us they did have sound capabilities but once we went to actually installing them my husband realized sound was not an option but we had already opened them and started the install part so we just decided that we would do without the sound part.

Color Night Vision Not Working

I've been trying to contact Lorex Technology for almost one month with regards to the color night vision not working properly. Some nights one or two cameras show in color but most nights none at all. I am now trying to contact Best Buy to assist with this matter since I purchased the product from them. I've also tried to contact Lorex to share the device with my husband so that he may have access to the camera system on his phone as well. I have yet to receive a response and the only method is to complete an online contact form from their website. This item was purchased for it's intended use and listed features. The product is great and the HD resolution is awesome. I am giving 3 stars for the non response of Lorex and the malfunction of features that made me want to purchase this system initially.

I bought this as my first security system but I did end up taking it back because I was having connection issues. The night time picture is amazing and the daytime is even better. Would buy again if I could figure out the mobile connection issue I was having.

The problem I have with this product is it picks up the slightest movement. It could be a spider web that is in front of the lens and will send me 50-70 notices a day or a falling leaf or a car driving by that’s far away ! A little too sensitive for me. It’s almost like the boy who cries wolf over and over. I don’t even look at the site when I get a warning because it’s usually nothing but a leaf, spider web or bushes moving with the wind. I would only recommend this product if you could regulate the sensitivity of the cameras.

The system overall is great. Good quality camera and dvr. The dvr doesn’t work with all monitors though and the app is very ineffective. I had the system right next to my router and plugged in but the video rarely loads on my app and when motion is detected the feed cuts off. But overall recording quality is great and playback on the dvr is good.

I have a lot to say about this device—D841 series—Best Buy information, and Lorex Technical Support, which is polite, incompetent, and utterly contemptuous of your time. If your system does not set itself up nicely and easily you can waste more than an entire day trying to get help.
1) How good is the D841 Security System? I am sorry to say that it is a poor quality system when up and running at its best. The box says that it provides “Color Night Vision” and I bought it to get a good clear snapshot of a vandal who has been damaging my property in my backyard. The Best Buy salespeople explained that an alarm LED light goes on from motion detection and illuminates the vandal’s face. In fact, the LED light goes on but provides no effective illumination. There is no night color vision unless you provide it from ambient backyard lights. If you use color vision without your own ambient lighting the picture becomes so grainy that you lose motion detection; even if you had it the picture is so grainy even with 4K resolution that it is useless for legal purposes. (Best Buy also said that since I was using the system as a “plug and play” I would not need to connect to the internet, but once I needed help Lorex insisted that I connect the DVR to the internet, which with my set-up was a major problem.)
So now you are stuck with the camera’s infrared night vision. Both day (color) and night (black and white) pictures are fine provided nothing moves. But if a person moves his face becomes fuzzy and blurry even at the maximum 7 FPS. This may allow you to identify a neighbor but not a stranger.
Best Buy told me that the cameras rotate L & R and acted like this was too obvious to ask. In fact, these are plastic bullet cameras that rotate up and down but not L & R, which limits mounting options. Lorex would not tell me whether the camera lens is plastic or glass.
On my second call, while I was on a very long hold with Lorex technical support I saw a way to increase the resolution of the output to the screen from 1080 to 4K, so I did so. I then lost control of the DVR. Lousy Lorex design lets you fall into this trap and Lorex does not have a reset option. You must hook it up to a 4K monitor to regain control. I drove back to Best Buy after making a consult with the Geek Squad. Geek Squad had no 4K monitor, but sent me to sales. Sales said that the system record was probably limited by the monitor so that to have 4K recording I needed to buy a $300 4K monitor. I checked back with Geek Squad and this seemed right to them so I bought the monitor and they were dead wrong. Lorex recording quality and monitor display are entirely different settings.
The motion detection default (80) is not very quick or sensitive, but if you increase it to 100 then it works better but the LED warning light attracts bugs that keep the system on "alarm and alert" as they swarm around the LED.
An 8+ figure password is mandatory to use the DVR and if you let the DVR idle for 5 minutes you must re-enter the password. You do not have the option to eliminate the password. This is very annoying.
2) Lorex Technical Support: Firstly, there are two contradictory quick set-up guides that led me to make an incomplete connection. There is no manual. You must call and request a manual and it takes several weeks to arrive. The on-line manual cannot be downloaded or read in one piece; it displays about a third of a page at a time or else by searchable subject matter and as a beginner you don’t know what to search for. When you do search, you often find that the visual display of the controls does not match the visual display of your actual model and so the instructions cannot be followed. Sometimes you can work around this and sometimes not, and then you are stuck.
The organization of the technical support is medieval. There are three tiers of technical support. These people are located throughout the world where wages are low and phone quality is often iffy. They handle multiple callers and often make you wait 20, 30 or 60+ minutes. One level 2 tech disconnected me after I had waited over an hour. Two day ago I was on the phone over 5½ hours just to get a Level 2 tech to schedule a “call-back” from a level 3 tech to program “snapshot” because the manual instructions do not work and he could not figure it out either. Lorex wants me glued to my phone near the system for two hours today and tomorrow for that call-back and I was told that if they did not call me back that I should call Lorex immediately and ask for a level 2 Tech. Your time means nothing to Lorex.
Most of the Lorex information systems are not connected to each other and the Tech 1 people know nothing. I had a stiff BNC connector that I could not remove and I asked whether these should be removable by hand and the Tech said I should take the DVR to an electrical technician! Each time you call you start from scratch and when you are transferred you must provide all the information again: Model #, Device ID, your name, email, phone number, etc. And best, they don’t know where the Device ID is to be found and it is not on the box and not on the bottom of the DVR as they say. Occasionally you get a transfer where all this is not required. Each problem is assigned its own ticket # and you can be given ticket #, transferred to a Tech 2 who cannot find your ticket # because it is not yet in the system. My experience with Lorex is the most demeaning treatment of my time that I have suffered.
