    Type Cover Still Falls Short

While the SP3 is compatible with the previous Type Cover, the new Type Cover will protect the entire face of the larger screen. It is also designed to fold up onto the screen surface and put the keyboard at a more comfortable angle. This makes it more usable on the lap too. The touchpad is improved, with a larger and smoother surface. But the praise ends there. A common complaint I’ve heard is folding the keyboard at an angle makes the icons at the bottom of the screen more difficult to touch. I haven’t had too much trouble with it and tend to use the pen. If my pen isn’t readily accessible, I just pull the keyboard flat. I don’t mind sacrificing a little inconvenience for screen space, so this is a minor thing. With the larger Type Cover, I would have expected all of the keys to be full size or near-to-it, but the keys are all the same as before. Maybe this is a bigger undertaking than I think, or maybe it’s just more cost-effective for Microsoft to use the same keys. It’s a small improvement that could have been made and may have solved my next issue. The biggest problem is the touchpad is not centered on the Type Cover. When I type normally, I often find my left hand on the edge of the track pad, and the cursor will activate and send my typing off into strange places. It’s happened at least four times while typing this entry. Once, I managed to click something that took me to a completely different page, and I almost lost everything I did here. I have a laptop with an off-center touchpad too, but it has a simple way to turn the touchpad off and on, so I have no problems. I suppose I could program a keyboard shortcut, but it’s well established I’m lazy. And this is a design flaw with which I shouldn’t have to deal. Technically (and financially), the Type Cover is an accessory, so if this is “the tablet that can replace your laptop,” a keyboard is an essential piece of equipment. The only reason I would recommend it to anyone is it's the best option available when using the Surface Pro 3 on the go. I hope there are plans in the works for improvements, because the Type Cover is far inferior to the Surface Pro 3 itself.

This is in my opinion a must own accessory for the surface pro 3. The keyboard works flawlessly and when closed it protects the screen well. The only negative I can say about this is I hate the pen holder. It literally sticks the keyboard with adhesive... So I'm supposed to trust a "sticker" to hold my Surface pen that costs $50 to replace If lost? No thanks! I left the pen holder off of my keyboard and just clip the pen on the keyboard on the thin fold area. It's been holding on perfectly in that position.

If I hadn't owned a laptop with a flip screen I think I would have rated this 5 stars. But the way I personally use the Surface Pro, it would be nice to have a keyboard that still worked even if it wasn't attached at a specific angle. Maybe even a blue tooth keyboard that is linked to that specific Surface? Other than that it is a really good buy!

Great Add-on for a Great Tablet

Transform your tablet into a laptop with one quick click. The keyboard is magnetic and self aligns with the tablet so there is no fusing around trying to find the right input. The variations of colors gives the user a unique look to call their own. And the keyboard cover provides enough protection for around the home or office.

I've had the touch cover 1 and 2, and the type cover 1 and 2 and they were great innovations with some caveats but with this Type Cover 3, Microsoft has nailed it.

The Surface Pro 3 Type Cover is much maligned because of its type-ability of which I am typing this review on. The keyboard is to have a functional keyboard in a thin and lightweight form factor that allows the Surface Pro 3 to maintain an ultraportable weight. Is it the best keyboard in the world? No. Is it supposed to be? No. The ability to flip over the keyboard to back of the device shuts off the inputs of the keys so you can carry it in tablet form without having to disconnect it. It also makes a great cover, the additional magnetic bar allows you to achieve a wedge form for typing and the keyboard is great for what it needs to do. The addition of backlit keys is fantastic. Will this keyboard work for everyone? Maybe not because one of its strengths is a perceived weakness which is the thinness and lightness. Which some complain flexes when you type, however I see that an issue with the typist preference of pressure. It also lacks the weight and thickness that comes with housing a battery and the board of a laptop, but isn't that the reason it exists? Also kudos on Microsoft getting a color that besides black I like. The Best Buy Blue is a good rich color and who can go wrong with it? I give this is an excellent rating because its light, functional, adaptable, backlit, and the click as it connects is just epic. I recommend this accessory!

The type cover works great. It protects the screen and makes it easier to carry the device around. I love the way the magnet makes it click in - solidly and in just the right place. It's so easy you can even do it one handed. Just really good engineering on that part. The typing is comfortable, even for someone like myself with larger than average hands. The Surface Pro 3 would not be complete without the keyboard, so really, my only negative about this item is simply that I had to purchase it. It just seems like a money grab when clearly the machine - especially at it's price point - should come with a keyboard.

A Solid Match For My Surface Pro 3

First of all I absolutely LOVE Best Buy, so having a Best Buy-colored keyboard for my perfect tablet is a match made in heaven. No joke, Navy Blue is my favorite color so this was a natural selection for me. PROs: *A perfect fit for the Surface Pro 3 (matches the design and overall ascetics of the device). *Backlit keys. This is an invaluable feature as the majority of my work is done in dimly-lit environments. Although this feature also comes at a disadvantage too (see CONs list below). *Huge improvement on the trackpad from previous versions. It allows for less friction and more area to get work with--a huge plus. *Doesn't require charging or a battery which is a huge plus unlike Bluetooth keyboards. CONs: *A bit on the pricey side. While backlit keys are indeed a premium feature on ANY keyboard, this thin keyboard shouldn't really be $130, $89 or $99 would be much more reasonable. You can buy tablets and even a Chromebook for the price of this product. Generally speaking, it feels a little on the cheap side too. *Light bleed. Unlike the touch cover, there is significant light bleed between the keys. I would have much better preferred this light bleed be taken away seeing as though this was a third iteration of this product. *Felt on the bottom is susceptible to dirt and staining easily. *I would have also like a magnetic closure to make it more secure during transport. Overall impressions: This product is a must for any Surface Pro 3, especially of you aim to get any element of productivity from it. While I think it is priced on the high side, I think offering users different colors is nice, I would have like some additional features such as magnetic closure and elimination of the heavy light bleeding from between the keys. I would still recommend this product although it does have it's flaws, so I cannot give it a 5.

I bought the Cyan- type cover and no regrets. Not only is it practical to use as a typing support, but protects my Surface 3! One can easily attach and remove from the laptop/tablet (don't really need to do remove once you have it on), it is lightweight and lights up in the dark. I have the feel of the keys when typing as well. If you have second thoughts about buying this equipment, DON'T! - It is a great investment, practical and reasonable for its price.

While the old Surface keyboard work on the new Surface, they don't quite fit the screen, and I wanted to try the new features, anyway. The ability to magnetically attach to the screen to give an angle for typing is really slick, and works well. However, it does come up just slightly too high on the screen, making it difficult to access the applications running in the task bar if you want to use the touchscreen instead of the trackpad. And you'll probably want to do that. Although it is more sturdy than previous versions, it still is difficult to use effectively. There is a tactile button press that helps, but I never know if I'm clicking left or right by feel. The other thing I don't like is the pen loop. It glues on where you would like. I would have much preferred a more permanent solution, as the poem is am expensive piece to lose. It definitely doesn't give me a feeling of safety to use it, add it could fall off at any time, and there is no warning when tablet and poem are separated like when the galaxy note tablets and phones are separate from their pens. I do like how responsive the keyboard is, and it is quiet. I also really like this color, which is only available at Best Buy. It does what out is supposed to do, better if you use it on a desk or table, and I'd say it is still your best option for the Surface Pro 3. Because of that, I'm giving it 4 stars. While there are flaws, it's still the best you'll get.

I purchased my new Surface Pro 3, and there really weren't any other options, so this keyboard made it into my bag. Here are my thoughts: The Bad: -The price - This costs way too much, especially when standard Bluetooth keyboards start in the $50 range. I would love to see this come down a bit. If you are a student/teacher you can get a 10% discount, by mentioning the education discount from the Microsoft store. Best Buy will honor this. -The mouse pad - Not the worst I have ever used, but there is only a very small portion of the pad that can be used for right-clicking. I can't count the amount of times I have missed that area. Additionally, If you are using this in your lap, the left-click will have occasional issues, especially when clicking in the furthest lower left corner. -Wear and Tear - I have only had this a few weeks and the keys/mouse pad are already showing signs of wear. I'm curious about how long of a life this thing will have, especially for the price. The Good: -Clicks on an off very quickly! -Does a great job of protecting the screen in transit. -Comes with a stick-on pen holder. -Comfortable size for extended use. I'm working on the second edition of a book, and the keyboard feels great. -Seamless integration - There is something to be said for how well it works while adding very little bulk to the Surface itself.

You cannot go wrong with this Surface Pro 3 matching keyboard. I like the new color "Blue" which is what I purchased. The Surface Pro 3 keyboard has a new prop-up feature so that the keyboard is set at an inclined angle using magnets instead of lying flat, but you can still lie it flat. This keyboard is backlit which is a nice feature. It's still a magnetic connect keyboard and screen protector as in the previous Pro and Pro 2 keyboards. You can also get an accessory that allows you to use the keyboard wirelessly (not being connected to the surface directly) which is a nice feature. The keyboard has a mechanical feel, but the depression distance is still not very large. You can use this keyboard on the Surface Pro and Pro 2 tablets as well; it has the same magnetic interface.

I purchased purple color version, as it is a darker color, so you don't immediately see stains, and it gives an extra "royal' touch to the velvet like material and the whole setup in general. Keyboard typing is perfect: light, fast, accurate. Backlighting is nice. Touchpad works fine. Clicking the cover to the screen is a snap, and you can do it in two ways. I clean the keys and the cover material weekly with disinfectant wipes to keep it nice looking, and to prevent fat from your skin from building up.over time. layout of keyboard could be more functional: I'd prefer to have screen brightness control and volume control, instead of charms function buttons (F5 - F8). Overall it functions very well and have no complaints.

Received this keyboard for Christmas '14. (It was an open box floor model) Pros: - I love that it has a magnet connection for easy removal and attachment. The keys feel normal when pressed. In the past my experience with blue tooth portable keyboards has not been the best. My typing errors increase dramatically with most portable/bluetooth keyboards but not with this keyboard. - The track pad is accurate and responsive. - The keys are backlit which I like a lot. - The keyboard has two positions: 1) it can lie flat on whatever surface you place it on or 2) It can attach magnetically a little bit higher on the Surface Pro 3 to give it a bit of an angle like a normal keyboard (which helps me type more efficiently). - Automatically powers off the Surface Pro 3 when closed Cons: - Price is too high

I bought this with my surface pro 3. It magnetically clips to the computer and has a nice adjustable magnetic fold that gives a good angle for typing. It folds to the back when I use the surface with my stylus and works as a screen cover that puts the surface to sleep. I bought the heaviest duty protective case I could and a tempered glass screen protector for the Surface, and the keypad still works fine. The weakness is the adhesive slot for the stylus. It falls off quite often as the sticky stuff isn't so sticky and the texture of the keypad is sort of like suede. I have finally given up on this stylus keeper and thrown it away. I prefer to use the stylus' own clip to attach it directly along fold of the keypad. This however prevents the keypad from folding to a nice angle for use. I'm really going to have to just get used to putting the stylus in my bag. I got navy blue color and it is very nice, but looks a little dusty. I wish I had gone for black

The TypeCover is GREAT. It is Backlit, spacious enough and responsive. I've not had a problem with it to this point. The keyboard attaches to a side port on the SP3 with a pretty strong magnet. There is also a magnetic strip on the top of the keyboard that, when snapped to the SP3's magnetic border, props up the keyboard and makes it more rigid. The trackpad is good. It's much larger than the predecessors' and has a physical click when pressed (the previous Surfaces did not). There's a pen loop that comes with the keyboard that you can stick to the keyboard and slide the pen into, but it doesn't look natural.
