They now award you with free games each month, They also allow you to score points with gamerscore and surveys to convert into real currency which you can spend in the Microsoft Store. There are also plenty of apps to take advantage of and allows you to play online with your other friends who own an Xbox,

For $60 you get a year of Live service for your Xbox 360, Xbox One, or Windows gaming devices. This is priced exactly like it would be through the online system, so if you can get one on sale (often it is included in whatever holiday promo is going on) you essentially get $60 for less which is about as good a deal as you'll ever get.

Instead it gave me a month or so of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with no option to keep it as 3 months of Gold. I was okay with the conversion but anyone wanting to use this for 3 months of Live Gold should be aware.

If you are already a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member, then redeeming a code for Xbox Live Gold will automatically convert its value to your Ultimate membership. This is because Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes the features of both Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold in one service. To redeem this code for just Xbox Live Gold, you'll first need to cancel your Ultimate membership.
