to start, the price is right for this thing. you buy it, and then you don't have to think about it for a year. until xmas maybe, & then you suggest it to someone as a stocking stuffer for yourself. also I've been building a pretty nice library of free games as a result of being a subscriber. win win.

Microsoft's only saving grace with how they operate in their gaming ecosystem. Games with Gold is normally great, the support seems good for the most part, and I feel like I'm actually getting value out of what I'm buying. It's reliable, usable, and is discounted often enough that I don't mind how it's required.

Xbox gold is required for online multiplayer but you get 4 free games a month and extra discounts on digital purchases so it is totally worth it.

Free games every month, I play online a few times a week so I need live. Buy the year membership. 1 and 3 month memberships are way over priced
