No flex, work great for portrait shooting. I use this with an aftermarket D4 battery, which allowjng me to shoot up to 3000-5000~ pictures before it running out of juice. It'll add some bulkness to the overall dimension of the camera, but once you get use to it, its very easy, comfortable to use. Honestly, it has been on my D500 since i got it.

There really are a number of ways you could go with this purchase. You could just buy additional batteries and keep them handy and charged. I personally like the ability to just keep some AA's and this battery pack handy when needed, plus the extra grip van be nice to have. Also, it does not prevent you from placing the product on a tripod. BONUS

The OEM MB-17 battery grip is excellent with the Nikon D500. The extra weight gives the camera a more balanced feel and power to the camera.

So, if you have a D500 and you're thinking of buying a battery grip to go with it, you've probably already had to sit down and recover yourself. This thing is preposterously expensive. I went back and forth trying to justify what it was going to cost me and eventually decided to bite the bullet and get one. And I'm glad I did.
If you've had other Nikons and added a grip, you know what you're getting and what you're not. It adds the capability of an additional battery and allows you to have the same set of controls available when shooting in portrait mode. It does NOT add any additional fps. And as nice and roomy as the D500 is, I still like the camera better with the grip. I have medium-large hands and found that my pinkie was looking for a place to be on the camera before I bought the grip.
I will say, this is the 1st grip I've purchased that I didn't have to nitpick. Every other one from the D200, D7000 and D7200 had wiggle. And it drove me crazy. This one doesn't move. Once screwed on, it's solid with no flex whatsoever.
If you're on the fence on this, I will recommend it highly. At the time of writing, I don't remember what I paid for it so, the pain of purchase goes away quickly. I resented the purchase of all the others because they didn't make the camera and grip feel like one solid piece. This one does.
Hope this helps

Adding a grip/ plus more power for faster shots per second, also life time, the feel it gives you. For both begainers who only know what they're missing after they try one out, or a pro who Must have it for all 3 reasons in order of speed, battary life, grip can be vertical without awkwardly shifting finger to shutter button. Yes! Costly up front, but you'll Never look back, nor regret getting pne. Besides, u list for sale and it'll be grabbed up in a day or so.

If you own a high-end Nikon camera, a battery grip is an absolutely essential component. Without it, your shooting time will be negligible with one battery.

Adding the ability to comfortable hold the camera in a vertical orientation without curling the wrist was critical for me. The ability to add battery capacity, as well as control buttons such as shutter and focus helped me capture high sports in much more comfortable and capable manner.

If you're more comfortable with larger cameras this grip will not disappoint. The extra battery life is appreciated and the extra weight helps balance larger lenses in a more comfortable way. The grip has an incredibly high quality feel that matches the build quality of the camera. If you can tolerate the high price I'd certainly recommend it.

I bought this cause the 3rd party grips did not work on the Nikon D500. This grip works great and is made of good quality materials. It is more expensive so to being the Nikon brand, but better than any 3rd party grip I own.

I always purchase the vertical grip/battery pack when purchasing a DSLR and this one works perfectly. it does add some weight but the overall balance is perfect. I prefer the balance and feel of the grip and don't mind the extra weight.

I have never had a battery grip before and find the MB-D17 to be an excellent resource, The ability to keep on taking pictures without having to change batteries is very useful as well as the sideways grip and shutter release functions.

The battery grip is well-made and matches the quality of the D500. There's no looseness when attached to the camera, and the extra battery (not included) provides enough power for all day shoots. The buttons are a little stiff, but I suspect they'll loosen up in time. The only downside is the price. I received the grip as part of a package with the camera. Despite the high quality, I would not buy this grip on it's own for its current price.

I bought the grip attachment to use along with my D500 for portraiture. What I like about it the most is that you’ll have double the battery life allowing you to make the most use of lenses when your in an environment that necessitates aggressive auto-focus, vibration reduction, and using liveview to either film or take photographs. It’s as easy as plug and play, just make sure you turn off/on the switch when needed. Nice to have when you’re out and about in the city and don’t want to spend time charging batteries!

This is a terrific battery grip for the Nikon D500 camera. It’s lightweight and you can use AAA batteries in a pinch.
