Customers are saying

Customers highly value the OMEN by HP laptop for its gaming capabilities, fast performance, and affordable price. Many users appreciate its large 17.3-inch display, powerful performance, and RGB keyboard. However, some users have concerns about its battery life, weight, limited storage, and RAM capacity, as well as the loud fan noise during gaming.

This PC has great speakers, processing speed, and graphics cards. I love the look of it too. There were some early driver issues however the very friendly customer service team at HP helped resolve efficiently.

It was on sale for cheaper than anything else with these specs. Fantastic computer, but the build quality is a little sketchy. The plastic makes me feel like I'm gonna break it.

Bought this for VR and was not disappointed. Runs Occulus Rift without any hiccups. Runs current games on High/ultra. Excellent laptop and a bit cheaper than the GTX chipset.

Setup: Windows 10 is Windows 10. The system comes configured to optimize Microsoft’s visibility and leverage over your personal information. Be sure to turn most (if not all) default “features” off if you do not want provide your personal data and computer usage habits to Microsoft. You may also want to download and install (and enable) the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-in. If you will be configuring your new system to emulate the settings and software from your old system, make sure to save the files needed to make the transition. Make sure that your backpack or laptop bag is big enough for this system if you want to take it with you. Many backpacks/bags are not large enough to accommodate the 17.3” OMEN (1.3” H x 16.6” W x 12” D; 8.22 lbs). The 230W power supply on the 17-an012dx is enormous! Make sure that you have room in your backpack/bag. It is a good idea to have this laptop with you when you go shopping for bags. System: Display: Nice sized 17.3” non-glare display. The maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. IPS technology provides good viewing from most viewing angles. The color gamut is tilted a bit toward the blue, but not bad. It can be easily customized with the Radeon Settings application. This is not a touch screen display. Disk: 1TB 7200rpm disk has plenty of storage, but I/O speed would be much better with SSD. Speakers: The onboard B&O speakers are functional, but I highly recommend a USB DAC and external speakers or a good set of headphones. Ports: • Three USB 3.1 ports are provided which should enable 10MB/sec transfer rates with disk drives that support this rate; • One USB-C port; • One Audio Jack with a headset jack (TRRS); • One microphone jack for stereo or monaural audio input; • One mini-display jack; • One HDMI (full size); • One RJ-45 Ethernet port for those (like me) who appreciate the network speed of a wired connection. • Safety lock port; GPU: AMD Radeon RX580 GPU /w 8GB is a significant upgrade from the Intel HD 520 graphics on my old HP system. The Radeon Settings app lets you configure a variety of GPU settings globally and customize them for each game independently. The default settings got an “Oh, WOW!” from my son when he launched his favorite game. Graphics were displayed effortlessly and smoothly. Keyboard: The keyboard is back-lit, solidly built, and has a nice feel for typing. The red on the W, A, S, and D keys is a handy reference for gamers, but wholly unnecessary IMHO. Touch Pad: It seems to work OK, but I disable mine and use a mouse exclusively. Bottom line: get this laptop for the 12GB of memory, 7th generation i7 processor, and AMD RX580 GPU. It is heavy and is too large for most laptop bags and backpacks.

    My New Baby

After an exhaustive search for a gaming laptop that would both perform well without breaking the entire bank, I chose the HP Omen 17.3 with the Radeon RX 580. I was torn for months on what console to get, whether it was the PS4 PRO or the upcoming Xbox One X. But the fact that I needed a new and beefier laptop than my last work laptop had me thinking...should I join the PC Master Race??? I've never considered this, but considering I was trying to be smart with my money, I decided to take the leap into PC gaming....which wasn't an easy decision by any stretch of the imagination. But seeing the amount of console games I could get for the PC, as well as a slew of games for PC only, and considering this laptop was more powerful than a console, (or at least close to it or equal) I dove all the way in, buying an open box, and then going the next day back to Best Buy and buying the volcano red and black Xbox One wireless controller to match and catching a sweet deal on a headset half price at $40 on sale to go with my new monster laptop....and a monster it is, in both size and specs.......all for $1039 open box and $1199 brand new. I immediately went to Steam, downloaded The Witcher 3 on sale for $19.99 game of the year edition, I downloaded Forza Horizon 3 and Forza 7 demos, and I just made a day of playing with this laptop, hoping to discover everything about the PC gaming culture. I've got a long way to go, but for this price I paid, this laptop ABSOLUTELY delivers for what it is. Forza looks gorgeous. And the 17.3" display is huge. I see myself keeping this baby for my gaming and audio/video production work for a very long time. Good Job, HP!!
