This awesome HP laptop is great size for the office. It's easy to set up, just plug it and the laptop will search for the WIFi right away and connect, the Microsoft Cortana will do the rest for you, you just answer the questions and the computer will set up for you. This laptop has the 7 generation Intel Core processor 2.8, which makes this laptop fast and smooth; the size of the laptop is 17.3 diagonal full HD LED display 60Hz. The RX Radeon it's great for those game lovers, 1TB hardrive and 12GB of memory , enough for all that i need on a laptop. There's no optical drive on this laptop but that's not a big deal since a lot of people don't use it anymore on their computers. The WLAN & Blutooth makes it easy to connect wireless specially with your favorite wireless headphones. The Bang & Olufsen audio makes it perfect to watch movies, tv shows etc, with a great sound. The smooth black metallic look of this laptop with the sandblasted hairline brushing and carbon fiber and the red LED keyboard looks awesome, also this laptop is a little heavy , it weights 8.22 pounds.

Great Desktop Replacement With AMD RX 580

This is one of those laptops that will serve as a desktop replacement for the many years to come. **Cons** 1) This particular model does not come with a SSD. 2) It is heavier than most of the laptops available in this price category. 3) Do not expect stellar battery life. 4) The touch pad and the surrounding metal-like area is a fingerprint magnet.

This laptop doesn’t only look awesome but it performs better than I expected. I compared it to my friends Alienware 15 and it keeps up with it with no problems. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good gaming laptop.

Played PUBG without any issues encountered. The only thing I don't love with this laptop is the battery life since when not plugged in, it only takes an hour or two to drain the battery when playing.

I bought this laptop around September 12th and I have had no regrets so far. Why? The computer is pretty fast with its i7 processor. It can run any game you throw at it since it has the rx580. So far, I have played The hunter, WW2, Snow, CSGO, MW3, and Outlast with no complaints on the graphics so far. On the side, I do alot of programming and IT stuff which results in me having to run multiple programs at once including a virtual machine. The programs I run at once are Visual Studio, VMWARE, SSMS, etc and the laptop hasn't frozen yet! Great laptop!

I must say I am truly impressed by this laptop. Very very nice design. When you you use it feels very solid. And lets not talk about the HD display. I love that I can play call of duty and then seamlessly go into a HD movie on Netflix with no lag at all. The bundled software is good but may improve with updates that I am sure soon to come. HP put in real work with this one. Its large and solid but not bulky. Also nice in my work environment. I love this baby The USB ports are very fast making it east to saved my save content via my external hard drive. I was not to impressed with the speakers but hey it's a laptop what do you expect. I paired with my Bluetooth speaker and now I am all good.

The best laptop I have ever owned

Powerful laptop, well worth the expenditure, especially considering that laptops are not easily expandable. If you plan on conducting serious work such a writing code in Visual Studio, Photoshop, or gaming and streaming with one computer you are looking at the right product. This thing is a BEAST as I have so aptly nicknamed my Omen. This beast tackles mutliprocessing like a champ. For the streamers be sure to pick up a usb hub for all of the devices to connect. No matter which laptop you get it will have a minimum of usb ports which this one has three. Has thunderbolt port as well in case anyone plans on getting a secondary boxed external gpu. Oh did I mention the backlit keyboard? What about the fact that the screen produces absolutely NO FRIGGIN GLARE. Amazing!!! The only drawbacks are those consistent with any highly built computer. Lots of heat and I suppose noise if you are not used to that. As an IT guy I am. Just pick you up a laptop cooler for the bottom and plug it into a USB. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=laptop+cooling+pad&_dyncharset=UTF-8&id=pcat17071&type=page&sc=Global&cp=1&nrp=&sp=&qp=&list=n&af=true&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960&keys=keys

    BEST Portable Desktop On Market!!

The thing plays Ark Survival Evolved @ 60fps @ Medium/High setting with no problem. It does sound like a jet taking off which is fine coming from high end desktops this is expected. I gave it a 5, but originally I was only going to give it a 4 because of some issues with trying to start it up originally, but found out this was not the systems fault but Windows 10 Update issue. I wouldn't call it a laptop anymore though because its more like portable desktop due to the size and heat coming from the back of this beast like machine. So if you plan on buying this be aware that you will need a desk to put it at when using it and don't expect to put it in your lap unless you want it to get toasty! Oh and BTW Playing DOOM with Vulkin on this is a dream nice consent 60+ fps with no lag!! Also who can't beat the current deal of getting Quake Champs for FREE!!

I bought this laptop for the use of CAD programs (i.e. solidworks) and a small amount of video games; it completely satisfied that requirement. But there is not to much space in my backpack because of the laptop. Overall this is an amazing laptop but a little on the bulky side and hope the next iteration doesn't have the sides taper in.

I was looking around for over a month at other PC retailers and most of what i was seeing with the specs that this PC has was between 1300 and 1400 dollars. I have always been hesitant on buying anything HP but after taking a look at this, I decided it was worth a go. I made a good choice. It is a very well built machine. I love the back lit keyboard for playing in the dark. The performance is what i was hoping for. I wish it came with a SSD or at least a hybrid drive but there is room to ADD one at a later time. All i can say is well done HP. You get a lot of bang for the buck with this one and best of all it's going for 1049.99 right now. I bought it at 1199.99 but Best Buy gave me the 150.00 difference back.

    Good gaming laptop. Poor quality.

Pros: - Can play most of games at average frame rate.(most of the cases at around 60fps with 1080p) - 10 keys - Big display Cons: - Poor battery life. Forget this is a mobile platform. It's a portable "Desktop". - Noisy. Yes, this is a small form factor desktop machine. Kinda expected. - Sound is not impressive. For a gamer, we use a headset anyway. - No Graphics tuning. (no overclock) - Heavy. Yes, again this is a "Desktop"! LOL So why I put 2 starts? Because sometimes onboard RX580 doesn't run at its full speed. It's capped at 608MHz and doesn't run at 1266MHz. This will decrease the game FPS almost 30-50%. There's a simple solution for this issue. Just unplug and re-plug AC while the system is running. The bad thing is that once this happens, RX580 always runs at 608MHz max. So if you don't know this, you could suffer the performance degradation for a long time. (and you even don't know the performance drops since 30fps is kinda playable.) HP hasn't fixed this issue since they launched this product for almost 6 months. Hope recent BIOS update will fix the issue but I haven't tested it yet. This makes me doubt HP's capability to assure their product quality. This is why I put 2 stars and put "Poor quality" in the summary. If you have a doubt, search HP support forum with RX580 keyword. I really hope, the latest BIOS will fix this issue.

A great holiday deal, and a good regular deal

I'll keep my review nice and simple as others have covered this machine in far more depth. I've had my Omen since this past December, and have really enjoyed it. There are a couple areas that are a little finicky, however, that I feel I ought to mention. First, if you decide to add an M.2 SSD you need to install the SSD, move or install your operating system to it, and then remove the HDD from the machine and let it boot into Windows once. After that, the BIOS will allow it to boot from the SSD on later boots. Second, this laptop is often listed as not having a Thunderbolt 3 connection. This is not completely accurate, as my model at least had a Thunderbolt logo next to the Type C connector meaning it does support that technology. Additionally, HP lists the RX580 based model as incompatible with the Omen Accelerator external GPU enclosure but this is only partially accurate. It does work, but cannot redirect external GPU output to the internal display. I've used it with the HP Windows Mixed Reality headset and a GTX 970 and it works great. Third, I actually had to send mine in for service after an automatic HP update in January, when my machine suddenly stopped supporting sleep modes. They were good about it though and within a week I had a repaired system, notably it was my actual hardware instead of a replacement laptop. The RX580's performance has been both disappointing and acceptable. It pushes most titles I've tried at 55-60fps or better on ultra or very high settings, but it seems like it should be doing better considering that it's the same silicon as the desktop model. Heat may be at least some of the issue, with the fans at full tilt being incredibly loud and pushing a lot of air. Plan to wear earphones for gaming sessions. Other than those issues, it's a really nice laptop. Not that much bigger than my 15" 2011 gaming laptop, the styling is fairly modest for a gaming product, and it feels well built and sturdy enough to hold up to heavy use. The backlit keyboard is nice, though I keep wanting to tell whoever puts differently colored keys on WASD to knock it off. The big thing I'm knocking a star off for in this case is the inconvenience of port placement. Placing the power cable on the side with a long straight barrel plug feels like an incredibly outdated move even though this unit needs a monster of a power brick. A rear mounted, 90 degree plug would have been a massive improvement. Additionally the trackpad could be nicer, as it tracks fairly well but a little texture might have been nice. The trackpad buttons feel cheap and loose but have a decent movement and a satisfying click. If there were a 4.5 star option I'd be giving it that.

    A solid mobile gaming computer

I purchased this machine a couple of weeks ago and I knew going into it that the HDD will need to be replace. It is 2018 and a mechanical disk drive should only be used for storage. Get this machine when it is on sale and then buy M.2 or SSD drive. As other reviewers have stated before, the M.2 drive is missing a screw and you will need to get one (I got a Western Digital Blue M.2 500GB for $140). Restore the OS from the back media or install a fresh copy of Windows 10 and man it is fast. The 7 gen i7 is a solid CPU and the AMD RX 580 with 8 GB of VRAM will be able to play the new gen games. There is more to be had with the RX 580 and a little OC with the MSI Afterburner and you will get a few more frames out of the machine with ease. The Display panel is not bad for what it is. I really don't have any complaints about it. And I am happy that it is not a touch screen. I compared this machine against a new desktop with a EVGA SSC GTX 1060 6b with a 8 gen i5 8600K and it performs really well. The new i5 CPU does edge out the i7 as it can run at a higher clock (again it is a desktop CPU), but the GPU is on par with the 1060. The keyboard feels good and enjoy the brightness of the red keys. And if you are asking if it gets loud, the answer is yes. But the system is doing what it needs to keep the machine running slow. No issues here.

Can not run any games on reccomended settings without serious crash occuring. Makes it impossible to actually play. I really want to give it 5 stars but black screen crashing forcing restart is a deal breaker. I don't know if my laptop is defective. Pretty upset about it. I don't see any Intel graphics for back up which is another negative. This thing is always hitting 80c on cpu and gpu and playing quake champions or doom is impossible without drastically dropping settings. Might as well have a lesser machine. Maybe I can get a replacement as I have only had it 5 days. Was on the fence about keeping it after first crash on doom but if quake champions and other games keep crashing even after dropping settings then something is wrong. Can't find anybody that has one of these so I don't know what to compare to. I really really wanted this laptop. But with this kind of performance I don't know if I can rely on it. Makes me feel like it's an emergency shutdown or something seriously wrong. Looking for something that can run quake champions without crashing the entire computer. Had an hp laptop with nvidia 940m that I sold to get this. Ofcourse it would crash sometimes when playing quake but I never had to hard reset or had it auto restart because of it. Kinda wish I kept it. It had Intel graphics so if I needed to reinstall nvidia it wouldn't cause a permanent black screen. Thermals are pretty high and if that's the problem that's a real bummer. Quake looked so beautiful and I am in need of a laptop for work. Wish this thing worked. Really liked it.

    Ugh, bargin bin IPS panel.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Why oh why does HP use a bargin bin IPS panel for this machine? You're going to be spending a lot of time looking at the screen, so why include something so inferior. It's 2017, for 1K+ laptops, a decent IPS panel should be standard, free of backlight bleeding, clouding, poor sRGB coverage, PWM, and lackluster nits. Please take a look at this video before you consider this model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUDjt4gjMO4 The one think I will give HP credit for on this machine is it's upgradability, but unfortunately, swapping out the screen is a PITA.
