    Best nature series

I had always wanted to buy this series since it first came out, but holding back due to the price of the admission. I am glad to finally made the plunge to the purchase. This is the best nature series that money can buy, great help with the sale price, in term of visual impact, content, sound, and of course, the British accent of the narrator. The six Blu-ray discs proved once and for all that natural images belong in high definition. Do not buy the DVD, save your money and wait for a sale to get the Blu version. By the time I got to the last disc in the series, my visual processing power was completely overwhelmed with the spectacular images the company had put into the package. This is definitively a must have in the collection of anyone who would call him/herself video collector.

This is by FAR the best thing you can experience in blu ray, people do you want a recomendation? take a full day off, turn off your cell phone, your computer, and disconect from the outside world and take a good look at this series, there's no words to describe the picture quality, the production and edition work these people made filming this. the music, the sounds, everything is just fantastic. I'll keep this at home forever for my kids, and their kids too, it's just amazing And a little note for the people that felt sad or overwhelmed about the crude images, it's nature, do yourselve a favor and appreciate it at it's best. cause maybe a lot of people don't enjoy watching these little cubs beeing some predator's lunch, but it's just the way it is, and it happens even if you don't wanna see it, so open your eyes and enjoy every single aspect of our beautiful planet, our only home, While it last. Thank You and i really hope everybody enjoy this as much as i do...

    Great Movie!

I wanted to see this when it was on the Discovery channel but only caught part of one episode. When I saw the drastic price drop, I went for it. This blu ray was very hard to find. I had no idea it was such a hot item. I had to call around but I eventually found it. I've gotten through half of the series. I love it. Absolutely beautiful scenes. My preference was to have the version featuring Sigourney Weaver as the narrator--its only sold through Discovery's online store. But, the British narrator is very good. And, the BBC version is nearly 1hr longer. I can not say enough how beautiful the scenes are. I love movies with what I call good "play-back-ability". This has it. I feel as if I'm going on a journey when I watch this. Its a bit of an escape. The series is long but it doesn't seem long when watched. I actually wish there were a bit more. But, I highly recommend this movie.

    Planet Earth!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

planet earth is easily the largest production of its kind ... ever. more than a dozen seasoned nature documentarians spent years in the wild capturing these images on high def video. the result is planet earth the bbc series. this is NOT the discovery channel version. if you've seen planet earth on tv, it was a slightly different version featuring narration by sigourney weaver. this blu ray set is narrated by david attenborough (some english guy) and is about six minutes longer per episode. << in terms of picture quality this version displays full 1080p, whereas the discovery channel set is mastered in 1080i. this might not matter to some viewers, but this set boasts video quality superior to the already top notch broadcast. simply put, this is the definitive set to buy, as it includes superior video quality and was not edited to run with commercials. >> in the end planet earth is certainly something you should pick up in some form.

Awesome HD Quality for an Awesome Documentary

I thought this documetary was great when I first watched it on TV, but its absolutely stunning seeing it on High Def Blue Ray. There are a few scenes that will simply take your breath away and you will find yourself asking, "how in the world did they get this footage?" My jaw dropped and if it weren't a documentary, I'd think it was special affects when they captured the scene of seals swimming in the ocean (I don't to spoil it so i'll leave it at that). The makers claimed it took them 10 years in the making, and I believe them. The only bad part is every episode ends with a little lecture on Global Warming, which is a bit annoying. Can't a person just enjoy a film without it getting political?

    Fantastic depth into wildlife

Yes this is not the Discovery Channel version, however this is just as good and in some areas better. The discovery channel does not take you in depth in some of the ocean and sea life voyages that BBC does here. For what it's worth, reading the amount of time and I'm sure hard work that BBC spent, coming up with what they have here, is something to appreciate. Definitely work the money. Picture quality is fantastic and the narration is great to listen to. It's amazing what life is out there, and you don't even know it.

    Absolutely Astounding

This series takes the viewer to a new world that they wouldn't expect is their own. The amount of time to capture never-before-seen species on film is just impressive. The clarity of everything, the in-depth narrations, and the immersive cinematography puts the viewer right into world he/she is watching. I could not have been more impressed even if I had gone to some to the fantastic sites that they filmed or if I saw the many differenst species up close. For an educational film, this hits the ball out of the park, and out of the atmosphere. Its just so impressive, nobody watching would complain that they're learning something about wildlife.

    THE BEST SERIES EVER

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This tv series takes you on a journey around the globe, from the ice worlds to the deserts in stunning Hi-Def clarity. The transitions are seemless and well realized. You can see the whole world in this series of nature landscapes... The scenery is so complete and detailed, you can actually realize how diverse our planet is. The only thing I didn't like about this Blu-Ray version is that it did not include the bonus chapter at the end of every episode. Not to mention the lack of the fith disc (Bonus) wich is present in the DVD version. But when you get your hands (or your eyes for that matter) on the Blu-Ray version, you'll forget about everything else... There's only a word to describe it: WOW! You won't be disappointed with this purchase.

I am not one for watching documentaries and educational videos, but Planet Earth doesn't play like that. You get to peak in on the plant and animal kingdom like never before. You gain an appreciation for the complexity of creation. It is mesmerizing. Truly a work of perfection! It is definitely one of the gems of my video collection. Watching it in Blu-Ray Hi Def surpasses my wildest expectations. This is not only must see but a necessary part of any great video collection.

No Sigourney Weaver is a good thing

This is the ORIGINAL BBC version! Narrated by the original WRITER Sir David Attenborough. This version is actually BETTER than the US Discovery channel's version. I had the Discovery's version, and I had to return it and get this one. David's narration, altho with quite a bit of English accent, is much more lively than Sigourney's script reading. In respond to [This is not the TV version - that is a different one - PLANET EARTH by the Discovery channel is the good one, this one is narrated by somebody else. I thought i was getting the good TV version.... guess not.]

    Great Accessory for any HDTV!

If you have an HDTV, you must get this. This truly allows your tv to come alive and see the world in High Def. You will not be sorry for buying a high def TV. It makes a great gift for any Blu-Ray owner and serves a great education tool for little kids as well. It doesn't have some natue aspects that may not be suitable for little ones. Some scenes of animals chasing and catching thier prey, dead carcus being consumed by scavengers, etc. You may want to prepare some circle of life discussions before hand. Buy it and enjoy over and over.

Anyone knows, i there's a blu-ray documentary called. 'Amazing Animal Events" in store's? If so, you all might want to add that to your blu-ray dvd collection asap. I know I will once I find it!

This is truely a spectacular nature documentary. Probably the best nature documentary to date. I rented this from Netflix, and knew right away that I had to buy this! I bought the bbc version half off at www.blue-ray-deals.com .The underwater and whale scenes are stunning in blu-ray clarity and will leave you in awe. The landscapes are breath-taking and glorious. It captures nature in fascinating and bizarre ways. Beautiful, educational, touching, - truely a masterpiece! It is well worth any price to me. I gained a new appreciation for nature, and learned just how extraordinary our planet is! Buy this! You will not be sorry. -- A SPECTACULAR Blu-ray MASTERPIECE!

Absolutely everything about this series is EPIC and it only gets better on bluray. The picture and sound are perfect. Everything becomes a thousand times clearer with the right setup. I actually get chills watching this because you are right there with the camera crew and the animals. The only problem I had with it, and its not even that big of a deal, the bluray version is narrated by David Attenbourough and not Sigourney Weaver. Really though, this is a must have for your collection. Start your bluray collection with this series.

    Best Nature Documentary Ever!!!

This is simply the best Nature documentary film I've ever seen. This product is a must buy for those who have HDTVs and blu-ray players; this film definitely brings out the best picture your hdtv could offer. This film's cinematography is spectacular and mesmerizing. From the polar bears of the artic to the penguins of the South Pole, from the deserts of the Sahara to the jungles of South America, From the mountains of Tibet to the life in the sea, Planet Earth has it all. I enjoyed this movie and watched many times with friends and families. The only one minor thing I would say about this film is that I wish it had more footage because I enjoyed it so much.

Spectacular: Best Blu Ray DVD ever

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

If you were only to buy one Blu Ray DVD ever, this should be it. The photography is unbelievable, it is educational, and it gives you the chance to see and experience wildlife not only that you personally may never see, but that may become extinct in your or your children's lifetimes (like blue whales and snow leopards). I got my Blu Ray player for Christmas in 2008 and the Planet Earth DVDs more than any others I've purchased really demonstrate the awesome picture capabilities of the player. Planet Earth is highly recommended.

    Read the following review

I read an in depth review comparing both versions (this one and the one The Discovery Channel sells). I was assuming this was the same as what I saw on the Discovery Channel like the other customer had noted. She is correct, they are not the same. However, from what I read, this version is better in that you get a better HD picture in this version and it's 50 minutes longer. So as long as you can live without Sigourney Weaver's narration this is the one to get. The DC's version (even on Blu-Ray) doesn't have the same HD quality this version has... and again it's 50 minutes longer because the DC took off 4 to 5 minutes out of each episode to insert commercials.

Yeah, this is pretty much why Blu-Ray technology exists. The images on this series are clearer than real life! If you own an HD tv, and a blu-ray player, this is an essential item to own.
