I have never flown a drone before this one.
The battery comes with a base charge, so it didn't but about 10 minutes to get it fully charged out of the box.
The instructions are easy to understand.
The product description says that the materials are crash resistant, and I can tell you now from experience that they are. I crashed (first time here!) this thing into the side of my house, a chain-link fence, and my car. There was no damage to the drone. No damage to anything else, either, because it's so small and lightweight.
It's very easy to get the hang of. The video quality is good for this price range.
It's much more difficult to control in any kind of wind, but I think for anything this lightweight, that will be the case.
I'd wanted to try flying a drone for a while and found this on sale. Now I know it's something I'll pursue, and I'll be using this drone to learn for quite a while, I'm sure.

I got this as a gift for my 9 year old son, after a few different purchases of remote helicopters for him that were very hard for him to control. He is having a blast flying this around and taking pictures and video. He figured out the controls very quickly and can fly it with little to no issues after only a few days.

I never write product reviews, but I'm going to call this product out for extreme durability. My wife bought me this entry level drone for Christmas. In my infinite wisdom, I took it out flying over a retention pond. Needless to say it landed in the water and I was unable to retrieve it. This was at 5:30pm yesterday, and the sun went down while I was searching the edge of the pond with a rake. I went back at 10am this morning and raked the lake for another half an hour. I finally found the drone. The drone was submerged for 17 hours. I dried it out for a few hours and it works perfectly! The drone is not rated as waterproof, but it definitely held up! If you are looking for a durable, and relatively inexpensive drone, then I highly recommend the Protocol AP camera drone! The only downside is that the battery only lasts 7 minutes and the camera quality is about half the quality of a VHS tape.

Went bad on second day.

Initially this little drone worked great and was a lot of fun. The battery lasts about 7 min and takes up to an hour to charge. I got about 4 good uses from the drone and on the last time I flew it the emergency shut off did not work. I only flew this indoors. Anyway I went over and grabbed the drone and the battery had run down. After it had recharged I tried a take off and it spun in a crazy circle (and crashed). One of the motors slipped a gear or something but that was it. I contacted Protocol and the response I got was.
"Thanks so much for writing – happy to help! I’m sorry to hear you are having problems with your VideoDrone AP. It sounds like maybe one of the gears was chipped. Did you have any crashes or was it dropped or anything like that? Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns."
I don't see any offer of help in the response more like blame. Maybe they believe that if the drone has a defect it will still fly perfectly. As far as dropping is concerned the drone drops every time the battery runs out. If that was not the intention then they have a design flaw since they detect that the battery is running low, if the drone can't drop to the floor then they should have it land when the battery is low. As far as crashes go if this thing can't handle flying indoors with prop guards then maybe one star is too much.
