I needed a controller for my Lenovo Legion Y700 tablet. I must say this controller was the perfect compliment to my tablet. My tablet fits pretty good. I do like the different size adapters included to help with the tablet fit. The controller has a very good build quality and the buttons feel very premium. I am very satisfied with my purchase and enjoy having a controller that supports my 8” inch tablet.

I love games! With this gaming controller now I have the opportunity to play my favorite games with my cellphone. It is very easy to use, only plug in your cellphone and automatically will respond to the controller (needs the razer app installed). Many games are compatible, or you can manually add the controls for your confort.

Perfect for my needs. Either remote playing on console or retro/mobile games on tablet or phone, this is a great controller. It doubles as a backup controller for pc. You are able to use a 3.5 mm headset through the controller for audio/chat as well as charging with the controller connected.

    Great but Expensive Phone Controller

The Kishi Ultra is a great phone controller. By far the best I’ve ever used. It’s comfortable to use, the buttons and thumbsticks are great, it fits a wide range of phones and tablets, and it’s well made. It’s also pretty bulky though and $150 is a lot for a phone controller even if it can also pull double-duty as a standalone wired controller. In the box there’s the controller itself and a set of 3 different cushions for fitting different devices - one for iPhone 15 (preinstalled), one for iPad Mini, and one for ‘Android devices’. Razer lists support on their website for the Galaxy S23 series, all the recent Pixel phones, and Razer Edge for Android devices, but it should fit most phones. The cushions are mainly for caseless phones and for phones that are in a case they can be removed completely, which is how I’ve been using it with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. My phone fits well and the telescoping motion to expand the controller is super smooth. Getting the phone in hand out of the controller is easy to do with one hand holding the controller and the other pushing the phone in place. The USB-C connector is on the right side of the controller and your phone connects directly to that, so it’s power completely off of your device. This does mean that Apple devices still using the Lightning connector won’t work with the Kishi Ultra. The controller is not compact - even with nothing in it it’s still almost 10 inches wide and it’s probably the one of the least portable phone controllers. The flipside of this is that it’s extremely comfortable to hold - the buttons, thumbsticks, triggers, and grips are all full-size and it feels like a real Xbox controller that’s been split down the middle. The buttons and D-pad are clicky, yet they have this soft feel to them that I like a lot. The thumbstick tension feels good - maybe just a touch tighter than a regular Xbox controller. The grips have a textured finish and the contours fit my hands well. In addition to the standard buttons, you also get 2 programmable buttons that are positioned just in between the triggers and shoulder buttons. They’re easy to reach and I didn’t have any issues accidentally pressing them, but at least on iPhone it appears these can only be remapped globally and not on a per-game basis. On the bottom of the controller there is a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB-C port for passthrough charging. The port is capable of 15W os passthrough charging, but unfortunately you lose USB audio capabilities going through the controller. Overall the build quality is very good and I don’t expect to have any durability issues with the Kishi Ultra. Using the Kishi Ultra on iPhone, Razer has the Nexus app, which acts as a sort of game launcher and lets your customize things like the lighting on the controller. It does not auto detect games you have on your phone, which I am guessing is some kind of iOS security limitation. Adding games to the app involves opening them individually and pressing the Nexus button on the controller while you are in game, which is a little bit of a cumbersome process to just launch your games out of another app. There is also a virtual controller function that will add controller support to games that do not natively support controller input, but I did not have the opportunity to try that on any of the games I play. Using the Kishi Ultra is such an improvement on mobile gaming. I don’t typically even game much on my iPhone, but I found myself on my couch for over an hour playing a game I had initially just wanted to test. For the games that support it, especially ones that have their roots in the game console space, it really is a game changer. I haven’t gotten uncomfortable or distracted at all with the Kishi Ultra in the time I’ve used it. The controller also has built-in haptics, but unfortunately they don’t work on iOS. I was able to try out the haptics by connecting the controller to my PC and they felt good; hopefully at some point that support can be added to iOS, but I’m not holding my breath. The fact that the controller can be used standalone is nice, though I would pick up a lot of other controllers before I used the Kishi Ultra this way. Still, it’s a nice extra feature and adds some nice utility. Overall I’m happy with the Kishi Ultra. There really isn’t a ton I’d fault about it besides how expensive it is and I’d struggle to recommend it at its price to anyone but the most active mobile gamers. If that is you though I don’t think you’ll be disappointed and if you can find a good sale on this later on you won’t regret it.

Kishi, must have travel companion mobile gaming

Unboxing. Opening the box to the Kishi reveals the controller immediately with an instruction set for the various pad options for use between Android and iPhone models. Each are labeled “A”(iPhone), “B” (iPad Mini), “C” (Android), and “Not Required”, a no pad option for a phone with a case. Immediately, all the pads were rendered useless in my case due to my Samsung S23 Ultra having a case on it. It’s not a touch thick case, but a nicer case that’s thinner and doesn’t add much more bulk to the phone as it’s already big enough as is. I did have to add the “Android” “C” pads back to the Kishi for use with my Samsung Tablet and it fit very nicely into this controller. Removing the Kishi from its package and looking it over, there is a nice grip design for a nice good grip while playing and to prevent slippage. Kishi Controller. The buttons are fairly smooth, with some limited clanky feelings to them. The directional pad and thumbs sticks feel and have a nice smooth range of motion to them. By the R/L1/2 buttons, there is the multi-function buttons on each side. The are the additional buttons for home, the “hamburger” menu option, button to jump into the Kishi Home center app, and the screenshot button. Moving along the bottom of the controller, one will find the USB-C plug-n-play port to charge your mobile device or connect to a computer for gameplay. A huge note in use is the controller USB-C port for plugging in your mobile device has no play or movement. Always place the top of your phone/device into this prior to making the USB-C connection to you phone or tablet as you may damage your device. On the left bottom side of the controller there is a standard 3.5mm headphone jack that supports a headset. Use/App. The haptic feedback is really good and can be adjusted through the Kishi Controller app. Button remapping may also be accomplished through the app. The app allows you to fully customize the controller to you for all of you gameplay. RGB can also be customized to you liking or just turned off. In my use case, battery is more important than the lighting until night play, and turned it off during my travel days and used heavily when playing while charging. Overall RGB design has a nice look and flare nicely to compliment the look of the entire ensemble. Game Play. Virtual Controller. This is perhaps one of my most loved features from Kishi as it allows you to move away from those games that require you physically touch the screen for gameplay while customizing it to the game you’re trying to play. A fine example is Brawl Stars, Sky Warriors, and Squad Busters; each one minor adjustments to the virtual controller and I was up and running in seconds. Controller Based. COD, Fortnite, Steamlink; there’s really no noticeable delays. No button adjustments needed except for the reaction points for turning and looking around, etc. Deadzones are adjustable for various game types; PC, console, etc… I will have to say, overall very happy with this controller and the fact that it connects directly to the phone or mobile device instead of Bluetooth is great while not losing the ability to charge my device and keep on rockin’ through some gametime.

Struggling to find a gaming controller that fits your larger phone perfectly? Wishing for a controller outside your iPad mini to make a gaming console? Razer has the solution! The Kishi Ultra, with its user-friendly design and quick setup, offers a full-size controller experience on the go for USC-C iOS phones, iPad mini, and Android phones/devices. I tested it on my iPad Mini, Z Fold 6, and S24 Ultra - and it springs into shape to fit flawlessly. The included bumpers are a thoughtful addition, allowing you to swap depending on the device you are using. The textured grip makes it easy to hold onto without including rubber or silicone, adding to the convenience of the design. The superior build and construction make it a convenient and valuable addition to your everyday carry. The buttons, triggers, and sticks on the Kishi Ultra not only function well but also exude a premium, pro-like feel, enhancing your gaming experience. Everything feels fast and responsive during gameplay. Razer's inclusion of a headphone jack helps adaptability when Bluetooth is unavailable. For the first time, good hardware is not held back by software. Razer truly shines with the Nexus App and its game launcher and inclusion of pass-through charging, but its speed could be improved tremendously. The most significant drawbacks of the Kishi Ultra are its size and lack of collapsibility for portable gaming. The top-notch hardware makes it larger in size than a standard controller and can make it less convenient for on-the-go gaming because you need to protect it. The shape makes it vulnerable when placed in a bag, and the quality of the sticks requires protection for this price point! The exposed sticks and triggers are at risk of impact, so investing in a protective case for travel is highly recommended. The Kishi Ultra stretches to fit but doesn't shrink in size, so I'd like to see a removable stretch backplate as a worthy improvement. I would also like to see hall effects sticks for this price, along with a protective case/sleeve to protect your investment. The Kishi Ultra's pass-through charging feature is limited to old Quick Charge 2.0 technology (5V 1A), a significant drawback. In my tests, it only provides a maximum of 8 watts at 5V 1 amp, which is unacceptable for gaming on a newer phone. As a result, it may lead to quicker battery drain and overheating, negatively impacting your phone's performance during long gaming sessions. Things to Know -No protection is provided. I'd expect some protection for the price: a little sleeve or mini case. Controllers and headsets in this price range come with bags or cases to protect their products. -No Hall Effects sticks. All these are regular potentiometers, so if you require hall effects, this is a No Go. -Using the RGB drains your battery faster, even though it looks fantastic. I recommend reducing the brightness or going dark for more gaming time. -Most games, like Fall Guys, Fortnite, and CoD, will work partially with the controller while playing. These apps look for Bluetooth controllers. As a result, I experienced a smooth console-like experience from Nexxus, but it fragmented when I was in different games. This offered me a hybrid experience where I played with the controller but had to tap the selections to start the game. This means that while the controller enhances the gaming experience, there are still some aspects of the game that require manual input, such as selecting options in the game's menu. -The Nexus app is THE BEST part of the experience! It ties everything together like nothing else out there. You can easily add all your games and favorite apps for easy access. Also included is a wide range of controller customizations, allowing you to tailor your gaming experience to your preferences. This app is a game-changer for mobile gaming! The Nexus app not only organizes your games and apps but also offers extensive customization options for your controller, enhancing your gaming experience. This is Razer's best portable gaming experience to date. Razer's Nexus app really exemplifies a perfect UI with a launcher experience for mobile gamers. While there are other cheaper controller options, they are different from this! The only deal breaker is that those who require Hall Effects sticks will pass.

Razer Kishi Ultra USB C: Mobile Gaming Redefined

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Razer Kishi Ultra USB C is a game-changer for mobile gaming enthusiasts, delivering an experience that rivals dedicated handheld consoles like the Nintendo Switch. Designed meticulously for both Apple and Android devices, it seamlessly accommodates iPhones and iPads up to 8 inches, as well as a variety of Android smartphones. Design and Comfort One of the standout features of the Kishi Ultra is its exceptional design. It fits comfortably in the hands, making those long gaming sessions much more enjoyable. The ergonomics are well thought out; the grips feel natural, allowing for extended play without discomfort. The RGB lighting adds a touch of flair, enhancing the aesthetic appeal while gaming in low-light settings. However, it’s essential to note that the controller is on the larger side, meaning portability could be slightly compromised—you’ll definitely want to stash it in a bag instead of just lugging it around. Compatibility and Functionality The Kishi Ultra shines in its plug-and-play functionality. Simply connect it via USB-C to your device, and you’re set to go—no cumbersome setup required. The inclusion of a Type C connector that allows you to charge your phone while gaming is a thoughtful touch, ensuring you won't run out of battery during an important gaming session. The addition of a 3.5mm audio jack is another smart feature, providing flexibility for those who prefer wired headphones. Performance and Features When it comes to gaming performance, the Kishi Ultra exceeds expectations. The buttons are of outstanding quality, responsive with a satisfying tactile feel that enhances gameplay. Whether you’re racing through the latest mobile title or indulging in an intense battle royale, the controller delivers precise control and seamless response times. Additionally, the Nexus app adds a layer of convenience, allowing easy access to game configurations and settings. Limitations However, it’s important to acknowledge some limitations. The size of the Kishi Ultra means that not all phone cases will fit within its grips, which could be a hassle for users accustomed to protecting their devices. While the price point may seem elevated, the value it brings in transforming your phone into a serious mobile gaming device is well worth the investment for dedicated gamers. Conclusion In summary, the Razer Kishi Ultra USB C is an impressive controller that elevates mobile gaming to new heights. With its comfortable design, high-quality buttons, and essential features like charging and audio capabilities, it’s a fantastic addition for anyone looking to enhance their gaming on the go or cozy up on the couch. While it comes with a few caveats related to size and fitment with cases, the overall experience it provides is undeniably outstanding. If you're serious about mobile gaming, the Kishi Ultra is a worthy investment that can substantially rival portable gaming solutions, depending on the power of your device.

    Best portable controller around!

Out of all the phone controllers I have used, this is the best one so far. It is not just as accurate as a console controller, it also adds a lot of Razer flair with lighting, and game focused features. Pros: -Feel -Programmable buttons -Haptics -Accuracy -Compatibility Cons: -Lightweight plastic -Bulky Setup and initial reactions: This thing feels like it is really made for gamers! It is larger than most competitors but it creates a more natural feel like a console controller. It is a bit large for travel though in my opinion. The app that adds the best compatibility and feature configuration is the Razer Nexus app available on Google and Apple. I tested this with my Pixel 8 Pro, OnePlus 12, Z Fold 6, iPad Pro 11 (M1) and ROG laptop. The device works fine with all of these. There are various padding inserts to ensure your device fits properly to align with the USB-C port so ensure you choose the proper pad. Not all phone cases will work with the sizings. Gaming: On the phone, I played Star Wars Hunters, COD Warzone and Mobile and a few racing games. I was very surprised by the great Chroma RGB on the controller which can be configured to your liking. The haptics also threw me off as I was not expecting that. I couldn’t find any games that support it but the controller system does so it is there if needed. Liked that the speaker grills allow for the phone speakers to shoot upward. While gaming, there is a USB-C passthrough port for charging and also a 3.5mm headphone jack. There are plenty of buttons on this device including two programmable buttons on the top. You can also map unsupported games using the virtual controller feature which will map the touchscreen actions to the buttons. I was extremely happy with the accuracy of the control sticks; they feel very similar to the Xbox controller in my opinion and also have clickable thumb sticks. The only issue I ran across was when hooking up my Z Fold 6. When closed, it will not allow enough room to hook up the USB-C in the dock. Unfolded it works just fine but is a bit unwieldy. Connectivity: Phones and small tablets easily connect via the USB-C port. I also tried gaming on my iPad Pro 11” (M1) and my laptop> this works great if you have a USB-C to USB-C cable. I was able to get haptics working on PC games such as Diablo IV. A total win for Razer and gamers!

Great Controller, XBX Like Grips Dynamic Lighting

Unboxing - The controller is nicely packed and presented with an instructional insert. The additional accessories are underneath in the box. I was able to fit this to a iPad mini and Motorola phone with almost no effort at all. Both lock securely in place. I also tested this on my regular windows 11 PC. It works on that as well without issue. Overall - This is a solid "Full size" XBX style controller. I was able to play various games for hours with this controller. It's actually the first true mobile controller I have used that allows me to do this as the majority are scaled down and I quickly find them to be uncomfortable. Prior to this I have been using a MS XBX PC compatible full size Bluetooth controller that is both "finicky" on android, bulky and a bit of a pain to setup. I am thrilled at just how good this controller is and it has instantly replaced my old setup. Use with devices - Works on PC running windows 11 without issue. Installs via plug and play and is recognized by Razer software. No special configuration was required to use with emulators and a few driving games. Ipad mini - could not be easier - connected and ready to go in less than ten seconds. Android phone - tested with an older motorola and a current samsung, both worked with or without Nexus app. The Nexus software is not required but it makes setting up profiles for games nearly automatic. Steam Link - Buttons need to be mapped one by one similar to other controllers. Razer Nexus App - Installs in a few seconds and contains profiles on android and IOS to map the controller automatically to most games. You can remap controls for emulators if needed and create and adjust profiles for mapping, lighting and controller response. Dynamic game lighting modes are fun however you can also turn off the lighting. Things I love ! SOLID full size controller Lighting is neat Room for improvement: Please create a steam link profile !

The Razer Kishi Ultra is a genuine gaming controller for your iOS and Android device. For this review I used it with my iPhone 15 Pro Max (USB C) but also did a quick test on my partners iPad Mini. In the box. - Razer Kishi Ultra USB C - Rubber Spacer Pads labeled A, B, C (A=iPhone 15; B=iPad Mini; C=Android) - User Guide with the obligatory Razer Stickers (I do love their stickers) Overview The Kishi Ultra Game Controller is a single unit with a retractable slider that opens to hold your device in place. The buttons all have a firm click, not sure if they are microswitch/mechanical but they do sound like they're quality switches. The whole Kishi Ultra unit feels premium (it's definitely living up to the Ultra name). Like a Xbox/PS5 controller quality. I was surprised, but my iPhone 15 Pro Max was a perfect fit in the Kishi with the case on (Torras case, also tested with a Spigen case) no need for any of the included rubber bumpers. In Use: Razer Kishi and Nexus Software To use the Razer Kishi you need to install the (free) Razer Nexus software. There's a prompt to install when you first connect the Kishi, but if you somehow miss it you can find the software in the App Store. The Nexus Software unlocks all the power of the Kishi, you can customize the RGBs but more importantly launch games and have the Kishi work as the controller. This kind of blew my mind on iOS, as I didn't think you could run a secondary game launcher over the top of iOS but you can and it works a treat. FWIW, Face ID was fully accessible and the Kishi Ultra design means it doesn't squash / trigger any of the other iPhone buttons (better than other controllers I have tested, that's for sure). Out of the box the Kishi supports 100s of games, including PS and Xbox Streaming/Cloud services and even a few of the new emulators you can now find on the AppStore. I did my first test using Among Us and was surprised to find the Nexus launcher even adds labels on the game so you know what all your Kishi Ultra controller buttons will let you do. Again, I was amazed. Buttons Galore The Kishi Ultra has a lot of buttons and I mean A LOT. 2 x thumb sticks 1 x D Pad X Y A B buttons 6 Shoulder Buttons (3 each side) And some dynamic hot keys In my tests the dynamic hot keys are mostly game dependent, although there does seem to be one dedicated for screenshots. More on that later. What's Good (Great) The Nexus software is amazing, easy to use, requires no registration, and is super intuitive. The Kishi Ultra is also premium and has a coolness factor to it. The Kishi Ultra/Nexus combo is compatible with so many titles, game/cloud streaming software, and even new iOS game emulators, it's impressive. The Kisihi Ultra has a USB C Port, so you can pass through charge your phone if you're worried about battery life. On that topic, I had no issues with battery drain - it wasn't noticeably faster with the Kishi Ultra connected. What's Not So Good If there's limitations of using the Nexus App in games, it seems to be due to a mix of limitations of iOS and game security checks. For example, Among Us kicked me out of a game because I tried to take a screenshot with the screenshot button on the Kishi. I suspect it was a cheat protection kicking in. See screenshot. The other small issue is getting your phone in and out is just a little too snug. I was worried the first time I might damage the Kishi Ultra USB C port or my phone. Once you learn how to do it properly (hold the Kishi Ultra retractable arm open all the way) it's much easier. I do wish Razer had a solution, maybe a lock to keep the retractable arm open when you are inserting/removing your phone? Overall This is an amazing piece of tech from Razer, the Kishi Ultra and combined Nexus software had me using my iPhone for gaming in a way I never anticipated or expected. If you're a dedicated gamer and want to experience it on your phone or tablet but with controller and handheld-console like gameplay, the Kishi Ultra is a a must have.
