I was definitely looking forward to checking out the Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma v. 2 headset. I have done my fair share of gaming over the years and recently started playing regularly again. I've used headsets before so I looked forward to seeing how the Kraken compared particularly with 7.1 surround. Unboxing and setup was a breeze. I already own a Razer gaming mouse so I just plugged in the headset into a USB port and downloaded the latest drivers. I was next prompted with a sweet configuration setup where you can calibrate the headset to your desired surround sound settings. Very easy and cool. There are loads of other settings to configure to your taste including general audio and mic settings. On the mic settings I did turn on mic monitor which I like. I am looking forward to playing with the other settings. Additionally there are mixer and eq settings to further fine tune your desired sound. Of course this the the Kraken Chroma so there is also lighting settings which permit you to select a bunch of colors to be displayed on your headset LEDs. Nice! Next I fired up some games to check out the Kraken 7.1 in action. I must say I was skeptical about the surround feature. I feared it would sound fake or gimmicky. Wow was I wrong. Now I've always played with a nice set of surround speakers but low and behold this was a new experience. I felt immediately immersed in the gameplay with a new heightened sense of direction which pinpointed where enemies were at all times. I quickly realized that the Kraken 7.1 improved my game. Enemies were far less able to sneak up on me. I will say that one downside is when the action gets very intense that the audio becomes slightly muddy. But then again when there's mayhem in a game I guess the sound itself would reflect this. I used the headset while playing both new and old games from Infinite Warfare to Half Life and regardless of game the Kraken's sound and effects were impressive. I'm not one to pour over instructions so I stumbled upon the sweet manual mute switch on the mic which glows red when activated. Comes in handy. The mic sounds great. I do prefer using the mic monitor which gives you the ability to hear yourself. The headphones themselves feel nicely constructed with a substantial feel but not heavy. They fit great and feel very comfortable. Even after hours of gameplay I didn't note any fatigue or discomfort. This is a big plus. I do have a few minor issues with the Kraken. I sorely miss a volume control on the cord. Certainly not a deal breaker but it would be convenient. I also don't like the small size of the USB plug which is difficult to grab when between other larger device plugs. The cord could also be longer. These minor gripes do not detract from what is an overall great gaming headset. The Kraken 7.1 is a great value with great features for the price. Highly recommended!

I love the setup. The sound is amazing and does block out alot of the outside/background/ambient (you get the picture) sounds. The only complaint that I have RECEIVED was from friends on discord. They were telling me that I had sounded really low in volume. I had told them I had just moved my mic maybe an inch away from my face, because it was brushing against my mustache/goatee. So that is the only bad I have to report.
