These are the best cameras I ever had. The Quality of the picture the sound and the app are amazing. You get alerted on your chime and on your cell phone. They have so many options. I also got the outside camera with the solar panel, so I don’t have to change the battery. I have it set that the spotlight goes on when there is motion. The chime also has a nightlight you can turn it on or off From the app. So easy to use once they’re all set up. I had them installed by Best Buy. They did all the work and set up. Super easy!

This upgraded video doorbell has great features. It’s clearer, records a larger area and has some cool features for ring tone sounds. For example halloween theme ring tones. I can interact with anyone through the came clearly. Well worth the purchase and easy to install. Amazon also has a compatible case to use on apartment door to prevent theft.

I had an older one and decided it’s time to upgrade. The new one I got had a way better video quality and new features like the birds view. So far I am really happy with the new gen ring doorbell cam.

The doorbell offers a great sense of reassurance. The birds-eye view feature is quite impressive as it allows you to observe people approaching the building. The signal strength is excellent, and the concept of having an external battery without any wires is truly appealing. Installation was remarkably simple, and the sleek design is very appealing. I wholeheartedly recommend this product if you desire a sense of security at your front door. I primarily bought it for the purpose of capturing events when packages are delivered.

I’ve been using Ring Doorbells since the first generation. Each new generation typically offers small updates over the ones before it, and the battery doorbells have changed very little in appearance since the first model. On the plus side, they still use the same rechargeable batteries, so you can reuse any you have left over if you’ve owned one before. On the negative side, the appearance is getting dated – bulky, blocky, and not very attractive compared to other models (wired models). The Ring Doorbell Pro offers some new features that nudges it above the mild updates from the past. It now offers a video resolution of 1536 x 1536 pixels, that while not a huge leap over past 1080p models, still does offer a bit more detail. The dynamic range (details in dark and light areas) is improved, and the field of view is now wider vertically so you can see someone from top to bottom, including packages at your door, as opposed to older models that just showed you images side-to-side and were blind at the foot and floor level. The Pro model also will now work with 2.4 ghz as well as 5 ghz WiFi as opposed to 2.4 only, as per most of the older models. There are a ton of customizable features on the battery Pro model (some require a subscription to access) that include the ability to have motion detection only for people (or even to detect packages), a birds-eye detection for greater reach, color night vision, better audio than previous models, and the usual ability to create zones where you can block out detection, expand it, and more, such as a choice of messages (or none) when someone rings the bell. Once you install the Ring app and create an account (if you don’t have one yet), you can just add a device, choose the Pro model, scan a small QR code on the side, and follow the instructions to install it; a number of steps, but it doesn’t take that long. Once done, you can install it outside with four screws, secured fully once you pop on the front faceplate and put a tiny security screw in the bottom. The battery comes with some charge, but you really should charge it fully first time around, and this may take a few hours with the included micro-USB cable (no USB-C yet??). I suggest buying an extra battery (around $29 or so), so you can have one charged and ready to swap out, rather than having to wait on just one battery to charge. Battery life will vary a good bit, depending on your settings, video clip length, and how often it’s triggered. Unlike past models, installing this one was fiddly. For some reason, the app did not want to add it for notifications properly, and wanted to keep defaulting to the previous model (which I still plan on using on another door). I had to delete the previous model, and still call tech support who had to tweak several settings to get it working. So this one, for me, was not “plug and play” as in the past. The Ring Battery Pro works best if you subscribe to Ring’s monthly service, which allows you to save video for future viewing, and unlocks every feature on the doorbell. It will still work without a subscription, but you will only be able to view video live when motion is triggered or someone presses the doorbell, and your phone is notified. Subscribe, and it will save videos for a good amount of time so you can download or share them if needed. So, after using it so far, I have found that the increased resolution is A LITTLE better than my older model… but not a lot. The field of view is definitely better though, and while you do get a noticeable fisheye effect, you now can see in front of your door at foot level for packages more effectively. The color night mode is subdued – it’s not a bright saturated color, but does look better than the older black-and-white only views. Sound and connection are moderately better than the older model and once the bugs were ironed out in the app, notifications are working reliably now. Overall, I think the Battery Pro is better than my older second generation. Now… is it better enough to warrant $200 give or take, for the price? Depends on your priorities. I do like the wider field of view and better night vision, as well as the slightly better connection and tweak in resolution. I didn’t like the buggy installation issues, the now getting outdated looks of it (that basically look almost just like every other battery model before it). I think the retail price might be pushing it for some for a doorbell, but only you can decide if it’s in your budget or not. I do wish for the price they would include a second, darker, faceplate (currently an option). I do recommend this version. It’s doing what it says it will do. Home security gets more important each year, this will be a compliment to a whole system.

    The Smartest Video Doorbell?

I've tried off-brand video doorbells in the past, but I didn't realize what I was missing until I installed my first Ring doorbell. Not only am I impressed with the field of view, intelligence, and clarity, but also with the features of the app. Ring has covered just about everything you would need in a doorbell camera. Setup took me about 30 to 45 minutes, including installing the doorbell, downloading the app, and creating an account. The unit is approximately 4.5 x 2 x 1 inches. I charged the battery overnight to be sure it was fully charged. Once charged, you simply slip the battery into the bottom of the case, tighten the screw, and you're ready to go. I shared my Ring access with both my wife and teenage son (who often orders food deliveries). The default ring is actually quite pleasant – a wind chime-like alert that you'll quickly become familiar with. There are many options and features within the app, including: Setting custom detection areas: You can draw a field of vision for your camera to pinpoint where it should detect motion. This comes in handy if you want to avoid areas like a neighbor's door. Personally, I like to see the activity going on around me – it helps me gauge the safety of my neighborhood. Snapshot Capture: Takes snapshots every 3 minutes to an hour to give you an idea of what's happening between events. Motion Frequency: Adjust how often the camera checks for motion (frequently, regularly, or periodically), depending on your preference and battery life concerns. Video Recording Length: Set this from 15 seconds to 2 minutes. The default is 30 seconds. Event History: There are numerous filters to narrow down events, and settings to prioritize the specific types of events you want to see. Mode Settings: Choose between three settings (Disarmed, Home, and Away) to customize your camera behavior depending on whether you're home or not. You might set indoor cameras to detect any motion while you're gone, or just noise detection. Upon returning, change the mode to "Home" to focus notifications on outside events. Linked Devices: Connect Ring smart lighting and cameras to your Ring doorbell. Alerts Snooze: Temporarily turn off alerts if you need a break or when expecting visitors. Power settings: Check battery levels and change settings to conserve battery power if necessary. Device Settings: Video: Configure night vision, HDR, Color Night Vision, Live View, PIP, and Recording Length. Snapshot Capture: (Explained above) Notification Settings: Customize which alerts you want and when you want phone notifications. Privacy Zones: Set privacy areas within your camera's field of view. Chime Settings: Configure the doorbell to use a traditional chime or transformer. General Settings: Name your device and set your home location. Smart Responses: Set up automated messages for visitors. Shared Access: I shared access with my wife and son so they could have all the same features and view the camera when needed. If you want to view your event history, you'll need a Ring Protect Plan. My Ring Video Doorbell Pro came with a 30-day Protect trial. There are three plan options: Protect Basic: Stores and shares videos from one device, includes Snapshot Capture, helps avoid unwanted motion alerts, shows photos of visitors in notifications, has Home and Away modes, and simplifies video downloads. Protect Plus: Covers all devices, adds Priority Alerts and Live View PIP, and extends warranty. Protect Pro: Includes Emergency Services alerts and a Virtual Security Guard feature, where a security professional monitors videos and can dispatch emergency services if necessary. The features that really stand out to me are the exceptionally large field of view (approximately 160 degrees) and the excellent app, which includes a neighborhood watch feature. Additional high-tech features I enjoy include the 3D motion detection radar, which uses an aerial view to map a subject's approach – this really improves the accuracy of alerts. The field of view is smart too; while it's wide, I don't get too many notifications about neighbors, unless they're clearly coming towards my apartment. I did get an alert when the lawn was being mowed! The app is feature-rich - I haven't seen anything comparable, and I've tried several brands. It took about an hour to read through the options and completely tailor my setup. I like a large field of view, frequent alerts, and high-resolution video even if that shortens battery life. Still, the battery lasts an impressive 2.5 weeks for me. The unit comes with a USB-style charger. If you've had a Ring doorbell before, they just keep getting better! There were features I didn't even know I wanted. Now, I have myself, my wife (on package alert!), and my teenage son (watching out for his food deliveries) all monitoring the doorbell app. It's hard to beat the features, clarity, and excellent app integration. I highly recommend this doorbell. The neighborhood app is a bonus - neighbors have been very active sharing info on everything from lost pets to, sadly, stolen packages and burglaries. It's reassuring to know what's happening in my area. Pros: *Large field of view *High resolution *Excellent app *Good battery life *Neighbors social feature *Highly customizable Cons: *Monthly fee to view video history *I surpisingly missed a couple of visitors. (I might need to fine-tune my field of view, not sure yet) Even though it's not perfect, it's still deserving of a 5 star rating. It's just so much better than another brand I used, it's not even close.

Good improvements for a battery doorbell camera

Ring - Battery Doorbell Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell - Battery-powered with Head-to-Toe HD+ Video I am using the Ring - Battery Doorbell Pro as a upgrade to my Ring peephole camera. The camera video has been upgraded to 2K, slightly better than Full HD 1536x1536, The fisheye lens (hence head to toe) has a larger field of view and since it is a fisheye it slightly distorts the imager. The image of people is clear enough to be a good identifier. Connection is now through 2.4 GHz, 5.0 GHz (802.11 b/g/n/ax). I chose 5.0 GHz as this is a better connection for streaming video. It uses the same battery as the older model with the mini-d USB power connection. I can’t tell power usage since I have only had this for a week, but the older unit lasted a long time before needing to recharge (I didn’t use any motion capture and didn’t have pre roll). After a week of use and minimum frequency of motion frequency I have 88% power. There is also an option to hook it up to a doorbell power supply or solar panel. Since I mounted this to my door I didn’t test the power option. You are provided with a charging cable but no charging brick. The night vision has improved and has a good picture that is clear day or night. You will want to keep the Protect Plus plan since it covers multiple cameras and keeps your videos in the cloud in case you need to offload some video or pics for the police or insurance. The Birds eye view is good for virtualization of movement and tracking of the camera view in relationship to the position the camera is mounted on your house. I do have a wedge added and can see all the way to the foot of the door. It also has plenty of head room with a view several feet up from the top of the door frame. I would like to note here that a lot of the options that are available for earlier models will work with this but to make sure if you use any addons that you select some that state they will work with the Battery Doorbell Pro. Response time is slightly faster for answering the door ring and I am sure that improvement is due to the updates in the device, software and the fact I am using the 5.0 GHz connection. Delay to answer the door is only a couple of seconds. The auto answer is a nice feature and is customizable. There is a 30 second delay when someone leaves a message. Sound and audio were clear on both the receiving and transmitting end. Tweaking of the camera settings will be refined with time and usage to customize how I want to use the system. I preferred the Ring peephole camera for having the electronics and the battery on the inside of the home. The current software has more features but there are a few things that could use improvements. Since I share camera and access with my Son where we can act as backup for one another. It would be nice if we had the option to make the other person an Admin so all the features are available at our discretion. Having limited control when we prefer to have all features available when sharing limits tweaking certain features or customization for different situations. An example is that when one of us is away from residence we may want to boost up some of the security features like taking more scheduled snap shots. My wife on the other hand just uses the base features. Not the prettiest camera out there and some of the competition instead of using a fisheye lens have multiple cameras on their unit but I find the fisheye squarish picture adequate and the limited distortion of people that the videos the camera takes is good for identification and most people wouldn’t even notice any distortion especially centered in the framing. And more generaly equates to higher cost and complexity.

Outdated design, but it’s still the best doorbell

Title: I don’t love the look, but it’s still the best doorbell out there Verdict: While I wish the Ring doorbell was slimmer (about all competitor doorbells are smaller), I still think that Ring is the best doorbell in the industry. It responds faster than another competitor doorbell we have, the image is clearer, the new wide-angle view is better than competitor options, and it’s compatible with Echo devices, including the Echo Show (it shows who is at the door on the Echo Show screen)!! You don’t need to buy a separate chime if you have any Echo devices in your home. The main downside for me is that I have all my house cameras from a different company but I use ring for the doorbell, so I have to switch apps. Initial Impression. It’s about the same size the older ring doorbell we have, but the finish is nicer. I like the push release battery pack. Setup. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. I charged the battery first, as recommended. I used the angled base because on my original ring (installed flat on the wall), a person standing at the door tended to be at the edge of the video. The angled base provides much better centering of people in front of the door, but I guess it doesn’t matter as much anymore because of the wide-angle view. I already had a ring account so setup was very quick, beside the mandatory software update and answering a dozen questions to help setup the device. We kept the old Ring doorbell and moved it next to the garage door, and we are using this new one at the front door. Integration with the Echo is automatic, I think because the previous Ring device was also already integrated with the Echo and because I am signed into my Echo account in the Ring app. We did not have a hardwire doorbell, so we love that this can be mounted anywhere, powered by a battery, and connected over WiFi. Of note, birds eye view is not helpful if you live in an apartment complex because you can’t select an overview of locations inside of a building (obviously). Performance. Overall, this camera works very well. Movement detection is reliable from what I noticed in just a few days of testing. Night vision is excellent (see picture). Resolution is very good, but the fisheye view makes it a little more difficult to recognize a face because of skewed perspectives. I still think it’s an improvement based on increased field of view left-to-right, and top-to-bottom. Notifications are fast and integration with an existing chime or Echo device is wonderful. You can setup detection zones to get alerts for specific areas, and ignore others (like a flag that flaps in the wind or a tree branch that moves a lot). Audio performance is clear, and easy to hear and understand. Things I love: - Compatible with Echo for alerts and Echo Show for video!! - Very responsive video on cell phone - High-quality resolution, wide field of view, and great night vision - Birds-eye view coverage selection is cool, but doesn’t work for apartment buildings - Very rapid and smooth setup when you already have a Ring account - Excellent microphone pick up on the camera Things I don’t love: - I wish the overall Ring camera ecosystem was better so that I could fully switch to Ring for everything, instead of having Ring as my doorbell and another brand of cameras for security. It’s getting better, but it’s not there yet. - The battery is still on micro-USB… I think it’s my last device using a micro-USB in the house now… Why?! - For the price, the camera should offer some form of basic recording after the free trial is over… maybe it’s just a rolling 12h, or maybe a six-month free trial. $4.99/month is not bad for a single camera, but it’s yet another subscription in an age of subscription everything; it adds up. We pay the monthly subscription already and will transfer it to this new camera when the trial is over, but I will not pay another $4.99 for the older camera we moved by the garage door because I don’t need full features there. Overall, the Ring camera doorbell is still the best doorbell option on the market, especially if you already have a Ring account, and even more if you are a subscriber and/or part of the larger Ring security ecosystem. The doorbell camera provides fast and high-quality video, and it is compatible with Echo devices. I loved our old Ring doorbell, and love this one even more! While $200 is pricey, I think it’s worth it for the capabilities is offers.

    Fantastic Video Doorbell by Ring

Ring has been in the video doorbell industry for a while now and this is my 2nd one I've used from them. I have 4 other camera's by Ring including floodlights and indoor cams so I do have a yearly subscription service. Personally I think it is worth it as it also lowers your homeowner's insurance premium with a lot of companies, so food for thought. As I had previously a Doorbell 3, I am happy to report my accessories for that doorbell is 100% compatible with this Pro model. Installation is a breeze as the App guides you step by step on what you will need depending on what type of surface you're mounting to installing the doorbell properly. I am using the official solar panel from Ring and so far on sunny days it has been charging perfectly. Unfortunately it's been super cloudy and raining the past week so my battery hasn't been able to take advantage of charging. I easily swapped my old doorbell and mounted this one in using the included hardware (did not need the wedge). Video quality is a major step up from the old HD quality. It is now 2k and all playback and live feed looks great. I have color night vision mode on and also HDR and the details are spot on. Just like my other Ring cams, latency is super low and from clicking live feed to actually watching it is ~4 secs or less. Though if you never had experience with Ring's doorbell cam the video is like looking through a fisheye lens. It doesn't bother me as the picture quality is superb but just be warned it looks different then their floodcams or stick up cams. Versus my previous cam, the Pro seems to be a LOT better at picking up actual humans and not sending a massive amounts of false positives. Yes you can adjust the sensitivity in the settings, but fine tuning can be a pain. So far I have seen it only catch visitors and delivery drivers. No pets or other animals. But it will catch a bug or two if they obviously happen to land on the lens itself. If you already have a Doorbell 3 or 4 then just know you are basically purchasing a resolution upgrade. You can use your old hardware on this including the batteries as well. I just wish they would update their connectors as USB-C is my preferred method over the aging and SLOW charging micro USB. Took almost 6 hrs to charge. All in all, I do like the Doorbell Pro a lot with the features if offers. If you're going from an older 1st gen or 2nd then it'll be worth the step up. If you have a 3 or 4, then it might be more of a side grade for you.

The Ring Pro 2 is an impressive smart doorbell that elevates home security with its advanced features. One of its standout qualities is the high-definition video quality, offering a crisp 1536p resolution that provides clear images both day and night. The enhanced night vision ensures that users can see visitors even in low-light conditions, giving peace of mind around the clock. Its two-way audio feature allows homeowners to communicate with visitors remotely through their smartphones, making it convenient to interact with delivery personnel or guests. The motion detection is highly sensitive, sending real-time alerts to users whenever it detects movement, which can be customized based on specific zones. Installation is straightforward, and the sleek design fits well with most home aesthetics. Integration with smart home systems, including Amazon Alexa, adds to its functionality, allowing for voice control and convenient access to live feeds. Overall, the Ring Pro 2 is a solid investment for enhancing home security, offering a perfect combination of video quality, features, and user-friendly operation. Whether for monitoring deliveries or keeping an eye on the front yard, it delivers reliable performance that meets modern security needs.

I Can See Why Ring Is The Household Name

I was mostly interested in this guy as from my perspective Ring is the “household” name for smart doorbells. Usually, when something is the household name it has some special tricks up its sleeve that the rest try to immolate. Thankfully, for this guy I was not let down. SUMMARY: I found the device to be easy to install, the app is easy to navigate, it has a ton of features, a ton of customizability, and alerts come in quickly (usually within 3ish seconds) and bringing up an alert or live feed takes about 3 seconds. Additionally, when you bring up an alert you can scrub through the footage along with any other footage it has captured. Which is dramatically better than any other smart doorbell I’ve tried. It also comes with something called Neighborhood Alert. Which is a neat and unique feature. I’m disappointed it doesn’t come with a chime included for the price and it being the ”pro” device. Additionally, the subscription cost is rather expensive at the cheapest being $5 per month. It does incorporate with all of your Amazon devices which is also nice if you are part of that family already. SETUP: Setup is easy. Download the app, it walks you through the setup process. I was disappointed as it only comes with a wedge (for a corner) adapter. But nothing else. Other smart doorbells that I’ve tried come with most of the accessories already with the device. Same goes for not having a doorbell chime included. It can be bought separately and I think it is semi-reasonably priced. But should come included in a “Pro” device. The screws however, are by far the best screws I’ve gotten inside a device to date. Usually manufacturers cheap out on this but they didn’t. They are high quality, don’t strip easily, and come with little rubber washers at the end to prevent overtightening. Process took maybe 15 – 20 minutes. I like that it works on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. SOFTWARE: You have a lot of customization features. Event history, accessories, mode settings, linked devices, alerts snooze, linked chimes, device health, motion settings, power settings, smart responses, device settings, help content, shared access. All of which have even more settings. Too many to go through in this written review. You can reset the wireless network without taking the doorbell down. Ring has a bunch of other accessories you can get as well. Such as your Amazon Alexa Speaker which will notify you when someone is at the door. I was able to share the doorbell feed and notifications with other housemates/family members. There is something called “Neighbors” where you can select an area around your house and see posts that other users have. Such as possible break ins, lost pets, funny incidents, etc. Which is a unique feature. Makes you feel like a part of your community which I think is important these days. As we’ve kind of lost touch of that. Along with keeping it safer. Wins across the board. PICTURE QUALITY: It has a weird resolution. But I wouldn’t let that prevent you from being interested. As the way they compress the footage is what counts. Which they do a good job at. It has a nice wide view where I can see the peripherals along with the ground easily in the same picture. If you go full screen, you can drag to see the ground and the sides. Bringing up this view takes about 3 seconds. Which is some of the fastest I’ve seen. You can easily access the speaker or microphone here. Which is by default off. Which I like a lot. The sound quality for both the caller and the receiver are very good. You have quick replies. When you go into a live view it will make a recording so you can go and view later on. Which is another feature I’ve never seen before. Scrubbing through the timeline is like scrubbing in real time on a video editing app. Soooo smooth and quick and it is for everything. Not just the file you are looking at. Another unique feature. The app itself is very easy to navigate. Picture quality is very good. Up there in the best I’ve seen. I can see what is happening easily. Night mode is very good. I can clearly see everything. Perhaps one of the best I’ve seen. You can setup a specific zone in which it will watch. Which isn’t anything new. But they have a satellite function which helps not alert you of cars driving by on the road or other things. While theoretically improving accuracy (location can vary this). Which I haven’t seen before and works well. From my limited testing this has done the best in alerts. Only notifying me when they see a person near my house. I haven’t had any false positives. In the event of lawn mowing (where you get a ton of alerts) you can tell it too snooze easily in the app and even off the notification itself. Which I think is great. BUILD QUALITY: The build quality is solid but not great. It is mostly made out of high quality plastic. The main outer piece is very thin plastic that I think would break very easily if dropped or incase of an impact. There is a screw that goes into the bottom. It is quite tight and doesn’t fit flush easily. And I’m afraid of overtightening. But it is the correct screw they recommend so that shouldn’t happen. Again, the screws that come with the device are the best I’ve seen in any product for a long time. So kudos on not cheaping out on that. BATTERY LIFE: It comes with a quick release battery. Which is pretty neat. Making hot swapping easy. Charge time is long at I think they say 12 hours from dead. It is charged with Micro-USB. Which I think is unacceptable and needs to be retired. The only saving grace I’ll give them is that since this is the same battery that fits the original model I can see why it is dated. But should be updated to USB-C going forward. Battery I haven’t had enough time to test. But I think will be shorter than most other devices I’ve tried. I charged it to 100% and after two days I’m down 7% already. And have had maybe 10 alerts. I do have one setting to burn through more battery. And there are other settings that will burn more or less battery depending on setting. You can wire this in without the battery as well. Overall, I’m extremely impressed by this doorbell. Great app that has a ton of customizability, features, and is easy to navigate. Live view and seeing recordings is quick. Camera quality is solid in both day or night view. I can see why they are so popular.

Pros Works with battery and hardwired Includes wedge kit Works with existing hardwired chime Ecosystem of accessories available IR adjusts so faces aren’t over exposed Pre-roll records before event Can announce on Amazon Echo devices Shows video on Echo Show when doorbell pressed Excellent voice quality when noise cancelling isn’t active Cons Noise cancellation sometimes cancels out voices Parts pouches make it easy to lose parts Installation instructions are vague on what parts to use Slow trickle charging when hardwired Still loses power when battery removed while hardwired 5 second pre-roll is pixelated and poor quality Doesn’t capture fast motion clearly due to pixelated pre-roll Rarely detects packages Shows current video and not event video on Echo Show Motion Alert option not available even hardwired while showing it No video is saved if there is an internet outage or no subscription Nearly every feature requires a subscription No HomeKit support The Ring Battery Doorbell Pro is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Specs wise it seems nearly identical to the older Doorbell Pro 2 but with a battery and improved IR. Out of the box it looks nearly identical to previous Ring battery style doorbells with subtle changes like the camera, IR lights, and light right around the button look slightly different. Each seems slightly larger than previous generations with the ring light around the doorbell button being more visible from the street. In the past you would get the different faceplate covers in the box, then it was changed to you could get one extra for free, but now other faceplates are an extra cost if you want to change. The wedge kit is now included in the box. While battery powered, you can opt to hardwire the doorbell. If you go this route, it uses the doorbell wiring to trickle charge the battery so if there are enough events the battery could still drain. The doorbell will not operate without a charged battery even if hardwired. Installation 7/10 There are multiple installation options available with hardware included. Parts for most options are available in the kit. The instructions are shown in the app based on what mounting method you choose but it doesn’t say much in the paperwork in the box. This could leave some confused. Furthermore, even in the app the instructions for using the wedge indicate using screws that are too long. The mounting hardware is also in pouches made of a waxy paper than is held closed by a flap meaning extra care should be taken not to lose parts. It feels like they went a bit too far reducing waste while creating these pouches. Unlike some Ring doorbells you don’t need to install any parts in your doorbell chime if mounting hardwired. You just make sure the doorbell transformer has the proper rating. Strangely the installation process didn’t offer any guidance on the hardware process and initially the mechanical chime wasn’t ringing. After digging through the app, it was discovered there is a section to choose what type of hardwired chime you have. You can choose manual or attempt to auto detect. Once set up, the original doorbell rang correctly. It’s strange that this seemed buried even though this is a battery powered doorbell. Configuration 7/10 Basic configuration is straightforward as the wizard walks you through the process. You can choose basic motion detection or smart alerts. Smart alerts are slower but attempt to reduce nuisance alerts by only alerting you to things like people or packages. The configuration gives a lot of flexibility but can also be a bit confusing. For example, you can set multiple motion zones but it doesn’t allow you to define what the zone does when creating it. If you want to create a zone to watch for packages you must go to the Smart Alerts section and choose package alerts before it allows you to create a package zone. This split process just makes things more confusing. At times the organization feels as if features were just tacked on to an existing menu with no thought to organization. Some aspects feel clean and well sorted out while others feel oddly out of place. Included Features 3/10 The only features available without a subscription are doorbell alerts, answer the doorbell, and live view. Smart motion alerts, recording, Smart Responses, mode settings, video history, and video pre-roll require a subscription. Included is a 30-day trial to the Protect plan. Video Quality 7/10 Years ago, the quality of the Battery Doorbell Pro would have been excellent, but cameras have improved, and Ring is now average quality. Videos are sharpened appropriately without being over sharpened and videos are well exposed day and night with HDR doing a good job of keeping both light and dark areas well exposed. Compression artifacts are limited, and overall image quality is good. At night the IR will default to try to expose the face properly without overexposing it. When placed near light brick or stone it can cut down on the glare nicely to keep anyone at your door properly exposed. The overall quality is an improvement over previous generations but still has room to improve. It would have been nice to finally see 4K equivalent video for more detail. While the pre-roll feature is nice to have the quality is almost useless as it just gives you an extremely blurry 5 second clip before the event. For faster events, such as package drop-off, sometimes the entire clip is in the blurry pre-roll. Furthermore, while you do get head to toe coverage you don’t get full coverage. Ironically Amazon drivers often place packages under the doorbell instead of across from it in view. With the current field of view, it can’t see packages directly below. Audio Quality 8/10 Audio quality seems to have improved further. The speaker in the doorbell is very clear making it easy for anyone at the door to understand what was said. It is also very clear and loud for the Smart Responses. While the speaker is great, the microphone is closer to good. It does pick up speech nicely but often it comes in too quiet, and the noise cancellation sometimes is a bit heavy handed. It will cancel out points of the person speaking at the door but keep the echo created at the entryway. Thankfully this is an easy fix by asking the person at the door to step forward and speak a little louder, but Ring still has some refinement on this front. Overall, it is still likely the best audio quality out of a Ring camera so far. Alerts 6/10 While admittedly some of the initial issue with alerts were user error, some alert issues persist. Alerts for a person at the door have been reliable with the only caveat being that when video is displayed on any Echo Show it just brings up the live view and misses the event that triggered the alert. When someone drops an item off at the door the Echo’s will announce and then bring up a live video of the front door with no one there. Ideally this should bring up the pre-roll first to show what triggered the event. Using Smart Alerts to alert for packages has been a disappointment. After verifying the package zone has been created, is active, and sensitivity is set to maximum package alerts only work about 10% of the time even missing an Amazon delivery box with the Amazon logo pointed squarely at the doorbell. Even deleting the zone and adding it back hasn’t improved package detection so far. Battery Changes 9/10 If you need to use the doorbell solely on battery the process for removing/changing batteries is relatively quick. There is a torx screw on bottom that is called a security screw that holds the faceplate on. Remove the single screw and the battery can be removed by pressing a single button. While it would be nice if Ring uses a key or something quicker and more secure the process is reasonably quick and easy. If you don’t want to wait for the battery to charge you can purchase spare batteries. Final Thoughts If you are looking for a video doorbell that integrates well with other platforms, don’t like subscriptions, or want local video storage then this doorbell is not for you. If you like Amazon products, are ok with a subscription, want a battery powered video doorbell solution that is well supported, and like the idea of an entire ecosystem of accessories that are designed to complement each other and build out your home security then the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro could be a good fit for you.

      Hi Craig.

Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring experience with us and other consumers. We believe in keeping people close to what’s important. That is why we are driven to create products that help you protect what matters most at home and empower you to connect with your visitors from wherever you are. Together, we’ll make neighborhoods safer!

We are happy to offer you more information regarding the motion detection and missed motion concern that you mentioned in your review. It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This camera uses adjustable motion detection and runs on passive infrared sensors. The system identifies visitors via a moving heat signature and sends a notification to your smart device when one is detected. You can adjust three preset motion zones and their distances under the "Motion Settings" tab on the device's page in the Ring app. Additionally, you can choose how often the camera checks for movement in those predefined zones via the "Motion Frequency" setting. If you find that your camera is missing some motions, please set the motion frequency to "Frequently."

The Must have Smart Doorbell for your Smart Home

Ring Battery Doorbell Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell with Head-to-Toe HD+ Video As someone who rents and recently has had some packages stolen, I felt now is the best time to get the new Ring Pro Doorbell. Design and Installation: First impressions of the Ring Doorbell Pro is that it has not changed much from the previous models but still has that modern sleek look. Due to myself renting, my landlord doesn't allow me to screw into the door or the door frame, so I had to order a 3rd party door adapter. That being said, it does come with all the needed things to install your door or door frame, along with a wedge mount to give you a better viewing angle. The package includes all necessary tools and instructions, making the setup process hassle-free even for those with minimal technical expertise and since its battery charged not having to worry about hiring an electrician to install it. The standout feature of this doorbell is undoubtedly its Head-to-Toe HD+ video capability. The resolution comes in at 1536 x 1536 which offers good clarity and detail. Not only can I see the faces of visitors at my door with remarkable clarity, but I can also view their entire body from head to toe. The person detection is great and I will get a notification sent to my phone when someone walks by or when they ring the doorbell. In the Ring App you can rotate your phone to the side and then move the camera up or down to get a better view to see if you have a package at your doorstep or if someone is trying to be sneaky. This level of detail provides invaluable real time information for identifying individuals and enhancing the overall security of your home. There are also several settings you can turn on in the app such as HDR for even better clarity, and several different options for night vision mode. I'm impressed by the battery life of the 2024 Ring Battery Doorbell Pro. After about 2 weeks of usage there is about 90% battery so it should last about 3 months on a single charge. I do recommend getting a second battery so there is no down time when having to charge the battery. Recharging the battery is a straightforward process, just use the Ring star-bit screwdriver provided in the box and unscrew it, then unclip the faceplate and press the release clip to remove the battery. My only complaint with the battery is that they are still using micro-USB to charge the battery and haven't upgraded it to USB-C. This is a minor complaint but it's just another charging cable you will have to keep up with. The integration with the Ring app is seamless and intuitive. I can easily access live footage, review past recordings in the timeline, and customize settings to suit my preferences. The app's user-friendly interface enhances the overall user experience, allowing for effortless navigation and control. Whether I'm at home or away, I can stay connected to my doorstep and respond to visitors promptly, enhancing security and convenience. You can also set up a perimeter for how far you want the camera to detect motion and people walking by. The integration with Alexa is also great in that when the doorbell is rung it will play the chime through all my ALexa smart speakers in my place, and with my Alexa Show it will pull up the live camera feed. If you have an Alexa. The two-way talk functionality of the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro is a great feature. It enables clear and seamless communication with visitors, delivery personnel, or potential intruders. Overall, the Ring Battery Doorbell Pro sets a new standard for smart video doorbells. With its Head-to-Toe HD+ video capability, easy installation, long battery life, seamless app integration with Alexa, and two-way talk functionality, it offers unmatched performance, convenience, and security. I definitely recommend it to anyone seeking to enhance the security of their home with a reliable and feature-rich video doorbell solution, that gives you that peace of mind at the end of the day.
