Major upgrade from the original Spotlight Cam

The 2nd Gen Ring Spotlight Cam Pro is not my first Ring product. I love their video doorbells and have installed several of them for friends and family. While Ring is not always perfect, none of the other camera systems I have installed and tried are as easy to use. Ring offers cloud storage at a reasonable cost, Alexa integration, and reliable remote monitoring alerts. I am able to use a variety of devices to monitor multiple properties all in one easy to use app. The 2nd Gen Pro is an upgrade for one of my original Spotlight Cams that I have mounted on my garage. Years ago, I chose to use two of the original spotlight cameras to cover my walkway and driveway. Mounted on opposite sides of the same garage corner, the spotlight cameras provide video coverage of the entire area and their lights perfectly fill in between the breezeway light (on the side of the garage) and a wall light (on the front of the garage). I did not want to use a glaring floodlight. The spotlight camera lights provide the perfect amount of light without blinding guests as they walked in or pulled into the driveway. Although the base plate screw patterns were different between the older and new camera, the installation was easy. Once you scan the QR code on the side of the camera, the app guides you through the setup to connect the camera to your network and provides step-by-step install pictures. The camera can be mounted on a wall or ceiling. I chose ceiling because the decorative USB port cover can only be used with the ceiling mount and the ceiling provided a better downward view of the walkway just below the camera. The power cord has an overall length of about 17.5 feet, with an integrated/mountable USB power supply at the 7.5 foot mark (after which the cable transitions to a thinner DC cable that should be easy to route). The install kit includes a variety of screws for mounting and cable routing (including anchors for drywall/masonry), but you will need to supply your own smaller screw drivers and possibly a drill with bits (for harder woods or masonry). The biggest changes for the 2nd Gen are an increase in resolution to 4k, a different form factor, and warmer LED color. I liked the compactness of the old design and the warmer LEDs don't match my old camera's whiter LED color (they still offer good brightness), but the new camera is sleeker and the video quality is the best of any Ring camera I have used. High resolution, HDR, and low noise night vision combine to deliver good results regardless of lighting. Mounted about 8ft above the ground, the wide angle lens covers a large area. I am able to see the area just below the camera, my 3 car driveway, the street, and a significant portion of the surrounding yard on either side. Color night vison increases the color you can see at night in mixed light, but video looks gray (like a standard black and white camera) with the spot light off and low ambient light. There is two-way audio and a warning siren to let you listen in, speak with people through the camera, and warn away unwanted visitors. Audio is clear and you can actually have a conversation through the camera. The only negative is that wind noise is pronounced above winds speeds of around 10mph. I already mentioned the Ring app, but it really is good. It works well on both my Android and Apple phones. It is easy to enable the camera, view historical events in timeline, change settings, and manage multiple Ring devices. Notification popups include the type of smart alert and a few seconds of video. You can set up smart notifications (for just people or cars), schedules, detailed motion areas, and linked triggers to capture multiple camera views on one triggering event. Ring also offers Alexa integration, allowing you to view cameras and make basic changes from an Alexa device (we have an older Show that works well). One important thing to note if you are new to Ring: You need a GREAT internet connection for the best image quality and two-way audio. Even with a modern mesh network (including a node in the garage) and fiber internet, I still sometimes have minor blips and compression artifacts. Even with 4k, the images are not as clear as they look on the Ring website and are noticeably more fuzzy (due to compression) some other video systems I have used with local storage.

Being and huge ring user I was excited to see these new 4k cameras get released. I removed a start do to the fact these must be plugged in, no more batteries or solar panels, which made the older cameras ideal to use anywhere you wanted to. Being that these are hard wired makes your install locations limited. I will do more research in this to see what options are out there. The cord is super long so you should have no problem, even if installing on a two storied home. The camera has some nice heft to it and is a bit bigger than the last gen spotlight cameras. Mounting arm can attach to the rear or upper rear for a ceiling type mount like I did. Install is a breeze both physically and on the app, took me about 5 minutes to mount it up. Scan the QR code that came with it and it opens up your app ready to install, it knows which device you have as well. It'll walk you through set up and programming, during the update you can read up on the features. Once installed you will be amazed by the clarity of the picture, and when you zoom it's clear as day, does not distort and pixelate like the old cameras. Very pleased with this camera, night quality, led lights, and 2 way radio all work fantastic.

The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro 2nd gen is an excellent addition to my existing Ring setup, and it finally came with the features that sealed the deal for me, convincing me to go ahead and get one. The previous generation was lacking in several areas that mattered to me, chiefly in terms of resolution and looks. In appearance, the last generation was just too blocky for my taste. This camera just looks like an outdoor pro camera, but larger and equipped with the most excellent spotlights! There are a few quirks I will share, but overall, it fits perfectly into my setup! I specifically wanted a spotlight camera for my backyard. I have a relatively large and dimly lit backyard, and while low light recording alone would have been fine for my rear camera security, this is one of the parts of my property that I would actually want lit up in the eventuality that an intruder or unexpected visitor decided to enter my backyard. The spotlight works fantastically and is just bright enough to cast a good beam throughout my whole rear yard, but small enough not to be blinding my neighbors through their windows, which I feel is the respectful approach! The camera’s two-way audio function works fantastically as well. My wife and I were able to carry on a full conversation while she was at work on the Ring app and decided to tune in to see how my daughter and I were doing playing in the backyard. Setting up, as with every other Ring product I have installed (which is over two dozen now, between sensors, cameras, and related products), was very easy. Connection is incredibly stable over Wi-Fi and I the visual image is crisp and lovely to behold whether it is day or night vision being used. Now for the quirks. You should just know that while this does use a USB-C plug, it requires about a 20-watt power supply, which is built into the cord. This works fine for my application, but some people might be disappointed that they can’t use a usual USB-C cable and plug into power the device. Furthermore, there is no battery backup and related feasible solar powering for this; a direct AC plug-in seems to be the way to go. While I have no problem with this in my application, I just want others to be aware of what they are getting into here. Altogether, this camera gets a solid 5/5 stars for my Ring Security setup! I would highly recommend you check it out!

After owning and using Ring products for the past several years and relying on their products to keep our family and home protected from potential harm, the release of the 2nd generation Ring Spotlight Cam Pro brought a host of upgrades where I thought our system was lacking. The main goal of adding to our system was to give us more surveillance of the greenbelt behind our property as it has been a potential weak spot for unexpected guests… and by guests, I mean the wildlife, specifically foxes, that would occasionally breach our iron fence and get into our yard. I was initially eyeballing trail cameras when the Ring Spotlight Pro was brought to my attention which just so happens to be a perfect fit considering we were already using Ring products therefore it saved me from needing to use another app for a different product. It was very easy to understand and set up out of the box and the app walked me through very simple, easy to understand directions syncing the camera to my current security system and Wi-Fi. Once I had it mounted and powered, the camera was up and running within minutes and even took me through additional features offered through the Ring smartphone application. The Spotlight Cam is a little larger than other Ring cameras and that’s because of the two spotlights on each side of the camera. Its weather-resistant casing protects it from the outdoor elements ensuring durability even in harsh conditions like wind, rain and snow. The included mounting hardware is intuitive making installation straightforward for both DIYers and first-time users. Perhaps the best feature of the latest Spotlight Cam Pro is the retinal 4K resolution which, compared to previous generations, the image sharpness is exceptional. You can see details, like facial features, license plates, and small objects even in the distance, are rendered with impressive clarity, even at dusk or in challenging lighting. Night vision performance is great and able to maintain high definition and color accuracy even in low-light scenarios. Combining the 4K image technology with their 10x enhanced zoom function and this outdoor spotlight camera is a game-changer. I was able to zoom in on distant subjects without losing much image quality, which is particularly useful for monitoring large properties or focusing on specific areas of concern. The digital zoom is smooth and responsive, and the camera software intelligently manages noise and pixelation for clear close-ups. The spotlight function offers powerful illumination, effectively deterring unwanted visitors and improving video clarity at night. Motion detection is highly customizable, and the camera integrates seamlessly with the Ring app, allowing for real-time alerts and two-way audio communication. Privacy zones and advanced detection options further enhance the security experience. The Spotlight Cam Pro 2nd Gen supports integration with several voice assistants, such as Alexa and Gemini, allowing for voice commands and automated routines. Even with the camera positioned outside and some distance from my Wi-Fi router, the connection has been reliable and live streaming is quick to load, with minimal lag. Overall, the latest Ring Spotlight Cam Pro with retinal 4K and 10x enhanced zoom is a premium choice for homeowners seeking top-tier video quality and comprehensive security features. While its advanced technology comes at a higher cost in comparison to other security cameras, the investment is justified for those who prioritize crystal-clear footage and flexible monitoring capabilities. Ring continues to lead the way in smart security, and this model is a testament to their commitment to innovation.

The Ring - Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) Plug In, Retinal 4 K for up to 10x Enhanced Zoom is a great spotlight security camera. It is so easy to set up using the APP. The APP talks you through everything you need to do from start to finish. It is easy to mound on the outside wall but must be near an electric outlet. It does NOT have a back battery so if the power goes off you have no camera. I fell that a back up battery would really help a lot because I like to have my cameras working even when the power is off. . The motion detection is a bit slow. It takes at least a minute to show up on the APP notification from the time a delivery man delivers my packages. The view is amazingly clear. The spotlight really helps with the view. The spotlight is bright enough to see very well. I am impressed with the spotlight. I love that I could direct the light in any direction that I need. . I do not feel that this is mush of an upgrade from the previous version. I do think it needs a back up battery to get a 5 star from me. That is very important to my needs. So I would recommend to those who are not concerned with having a security camera when power is out.

      Hi Villageanne.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are always looking for ways to improve our neighbor's experience, and your feedback is an invaluable part of this process. That is why we are dedicated to offering devices that help you safeguard what is most important at home, while also allowing you to connect with your neighbors from anywhere. We’re glad to read that you are finding the provided features useful.

I would be happy to address your concern regarding the issue that you are experiencing with the delay in motion detection of your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen.). It is important to ensure that you have the proper motion settings in place for your environment. This includes increasing the "Motion Sensitivity" and setting "Motion Frequency" to "Frequently" in the Ring app. To optimize your motion zones and ensure that the device will detect accurately, please follow these steps:
      Open the Ring app.
Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap Devices.
      Tap the relevant device.
      Tap Motion Settings.
At the top, tap Edit Zones or scroll down to tap Camera Motion Zones.
To adjust an existing Motion Zone: tap the Zone you want to adjust, then drag the points of the Zone to do so. Tap Save.
To add a new Motion Zone: tap Add Zone and drag the points of the Zone. Tap Save.

Accuracy in motion detection can also be improved by enabling Smart Alerts for people only in your Ring app.

      To enable Smart Alerts:

Tap the menu (≡) on the top left.
      Tap Devices.
Tap the device that you want to adjust.
      Tap Motion Settings.
      Tap Smart Alerts.
      Tap Enable Feature.
      Tap Continue.
Select the notification options that you want for Person and Other Motion.
You'll see a video camera where you can select or de-select recording and a bell icon to represent alert notifications.
After you've adjusted your settings tap Done.

If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen.), please reach out to our community team. Review of Ring Spotlight Cam Pro 2nd Gen The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro 2nd Gen comes with good lighting upon sensitive motion is detected, with retinal 4k with 10X enhanced zoom. It has good features allowing to monitor and interact in real time with the visitor or delivery person. The camera as expected has good definition and sharp image from the video gives the home owner ease process to recognize details as the zoom permit. The package includes • Plug-in spotlight camera • Mounting bracket • 9 Philips-head mounting screws • 9 Plastic wall anchors • AC power adapter with DC output: 5V 3A / 9V 2A, USB-C that goes with the camera. • 9 Cable clips • 9 Hex-head cable clip screws • 9 Plastic wall anchors • Warranty and Safety booklet • Window decal • Owner's manual • Setup Guide Installing is straight forward once decided on the location for the camera and outlet. Then connecting to the application also same as other brand in the market does via scanning the QR code to add as device. For being Ring and Application driven user experience, from app perspective it is easy to use and navigate through for many of functionalities. I would say it is one of the most functions that have compared to other brand and easy understand. To mention few that mostly be used, live view, check on history, real time talk. All works nicely, well integrated between the software side and the camera as I haven’t experienced noticeable latency or slowdown during the usage. Its illumination is remarkable despite of its scope for which is made for as bright the area more than expected. What I wish it were better: 1. Compatibility to Matter Standard: considering the price point and being the latest, it is not compatible with Matter Standard. It is closed system only via Ring application. 2. Control of the tone of illumination: the application doesn’t include option to change the the tone, and it is only warm white color by default. 3. Dependency to Subscribed Plan: the camera is packed with powerful features. However, most of them are not available unless user is subscribed to monthly paid plan. Hence it limit its full purpose as is. 4. Account management: For being a first Ring device at home, upon setting account to Ring and associating with Amazon account, it automatically subscribes to first 30 days subscription without the option to opt out. 5. Security: For case of having to reset the password for Ring account, it defaults to provided ID document and verify alive camera view to validate the owner. Although the security is priority and might depend to different point of view on the subject, considering that the device is not a Financial product, having to provide ID appears going beyond to have unnecessary personal information to provide to the hand of Ring/Amazon. Moreover, other brand at the same scale of Amazon doesn’t perform such validation. Overall, the latest version of Ring Spotlight is solid and well made, weather resistance, long wire for the power although would have needed a longer one, and good experience with its application. However, not being compatible with Matter Standard, and and above list of wish it were better, doesn’t make to the perfectly good, and recommendable only to Ring ecosystem users with paid subscription.

I own many Ring products from the doorbell to their cameras. I have the first gen Spotlight Cam Pro. This 2nd generation version has many updates that are welcomed. The form factor is more compact than what I have. This also has 4k resolution. The video quality and clarity is next level from my previous version. The computer hardware has been improved. I can tell from just setting it up, it is much quicker. The browsing of videos seems to be quicker as well compared to when browsing footage from my other Ring cameras. When zooming in, not only does it feel quicker but the quality is greatly improved thanks to the 4K resolution. I can see things like license plate from distances that were blurry before. The light has improved as well. My older one is somewhat blinding depending on the angle. This one has a soft white color. Bright enough to light up the area and also help with recordings at night. A big surprise to me is the support for power over ethernet (POE). I never knew this existed. I looked up on the Ring website and sure enough, they have adapters if you want to use it. This allows you to not only get power from your network but also use it for data. You do need a POE cable network switch. Wifi is fine but with 4K you will need good bandwidth which you can get with newer Wifi technology or over ethernet. I have not tried it yet but would in the future. This is a great new addition to what we currently have.

The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro 4K is one of Ring’s latest camera offerings in their new Retinal 4K lineup. These build upon Ring’s robust camera offerings which have had full HD or higher resolution, color night vision, 3D motion detection, and more. After using this camera for a week, I can say there are few drawbacks to this new lineup in terms of performance but it may be hard to justify in terms of value with a great 2K lineup also being offered. IN THE BOX: - Spotlight Cam Pro (Plug In) - USB-C Power Adapter - Standard Mount + Wall Mount and Screw Kit - Sticker - User Manual SETUP: Ring cameras are extremely easy to set up, especially if you already have a Ring account. The camera comes with a 30 day trial of Ring Home, one of their paid plans with additional benefits such as up to 180 Days of Video Event History, unlimited devices at one location, person, package, and vehicle notifications, extended warranties, and more. After scanning the QR code on the camera within the Ring app, it prompted for a software update to be performed which only took about 1 minute. BUILD QUALITY: The Spotlight Cam Pro is very similar in construction to their products from the last several years. It is slightly larger in physical size than some of the older products which is likely due to the larger camera sensor and radar that the Pro has over the lesser cameras. It is also worth noting that the Spotlight Cam is physically larger than the standard Pro camera due to the LED lights that flank either side of the camera. It also has no bottom mount like the Pro camera but there are two rear mounting locations. This allows for the camera to be hung from the side of a house, under and eve, or other similar locations. It comes with a white plastic housing with a USB-C port on the back bottom if you opt for the plug in version. FEATURES/VIDEO QUALITY: With this new Retinal 4K lineup, it is important to note that the camera must be powered at all times. Unfortunately, battery is not an option with their 4K lineup like it is with the FHD or 2K cameras. This means you have a choice between Plug-In, Hardwire, or POE+ power with this camera. The standard USB-C plug in model that I have comes with a long, flat type of power adapter with a voltage reducer in the middle. This should be long enough for many applications with a household outlet nearby, however, for long runs, it may be necessary to get a longer cable. Ring touts the new Retinal 4K lineup to offer “up to 10x Enhanced Zoom” due to the greater resolution but I would say this is a very limited claim due to the digital compression that occurs with any cloud based security system. With that in mind, the quality is excellent. It’s much better than their HD offerings that have been around for years. The color, low light performance is something that stands out from my other Ring cameras I have currently. The 2-way talk and siren features perform just like their other cameras you might be used to. The Spotlight Cam sits between their standard Pro camera and the Floodlight camera in terms of output from the LED light. It is good for illuminating small areas around the camera as it is rated for 600 lumens. I would not rely on this light to shine bright enough for greater distances or open areas but it will help with showing details closer to the camera in very dark locations. One feature I really enjoy is the Lutron + Ring camera integrations. This allows for the Ring camera to activate the Lutron wall switches (aka lights) whenever motion is detected by the cameras. This isn’t as important with the Spotlight or Floodlight cameras because they have a built-in light but for cameras without the light, it removes the need for these more expensive cameras. I wish Lutron would allow one to control for how long the lights are activated but the only setting available is for 15 minutes and works fine. APP: After using the Ring app for over 2 years, I find it really great in some areas and really poor in others. I find the camera previews and accessory light controls very easy to access. The history and timelines for devices is pretty straightforward as well. When it comes to the different modes, scheduling devices, and things like this, I find it very confusing. It is important to note that if you don’t want law enforcement being able to access your camera footage during investigations or other relevant searches that you must opt out of this function. This is also true for the lost pet feature recently introduced. OVERALL: The Ring Spotlight Cam Pro 4K is a fantastic upgrade from older Ring cameras but it is less of an upgrade from the newer 2K cameras that have been recently released. If you’re using Ring hardware from several years ago AND are able to plug in the devices or use one of the other power methods, I would recommend upgrading to one of their newer camera offerings for the increase in video quality. If you’re new to the Ring camera ecosystem, the 4K and POE options would be great to help future proof your security system.

Since I already own a Ring doorbell camera, I chose their Spotlight Cam Pro 2 to expand our home’s outdoor security system. The camera comes with an adjustable wall mount and hardware for both hard and soft surfaces. There’s also an optional cover plate for the power connector when mounted in an overhead orientation. As this is the plug-in unit, it comes with an AC adapter with a small, in-line, mountable brick between the10-ft USB-C cable and 7.5-ft power cord. A hardwire and power over Ethernet version of this camera are also available. The device is pretty compact and consists of two LED light panels to the left and right of the camera lens with a speaker below it. The unit is straightforward to install, though keep in mind that it needs to be located within reach of an outlet or have the power cable routed into the home, and if plugging in outdoors you’ll want a way to secure it from being unplugged easily and protect it from inclement weather. All Ring security devices require a subscription to view recorded video clips on the cloud and see activity history. This device comes with a free 30-day trial of the Premium Ring Home Plan which includes up to 180-days of video event history, AI smart video search, and smart alerts for people, packages, and vehicles. You’ll need to download and install the Ring app to set it up. Once connected to your home’s 2.4 or 5 GHz WiFi network, it will automatically install any updates. The app lets you view the camera’s live feed, enable two-way audio so you can converse with someone in front of the camera, and manually turn on the light or a loud 85 dB siren. By default, when the motion sensor is triggered, the camera will record a video clip up to 2-minutes in length, and the floodlight will turn on as long as it is sufficiently dark out. The premium subscription also gives you the option to enable 24/7 recording. The 600 lumen light on this unit has a 3000K warm white color temperature. At max brightness, I found it to be sufficient to light up the stairway in our backyard, but if it's too intense it can be dimmed over 10 increments. You can also set schedules to keep the light on or off at specific times regardless of motion. To cut down on alerts, you can customize the camera’s motion zone, adjust motion sensitivity, and even schedules for alerts. Bird’s Eye zones can be set to limit the distance of detection as well and gives you a better sense of detected movement in a 3D space. Alerts can be pushed to your phone via the app, announced on your Echo speakers, or automatically display the video feed on Alexa video devices like the Show and FireTV. The videos recorded by the camera are sharp, smooth, and clear at 4K. This resolution also lets you zoom in digitally up to 10x when viewing footage and still retain plenty of detail. The field of view of the lens is wide at 140° horizontal and 85° vertical. Colors are well-saturated, accurate, and contrast is very good, even at night. Infrared night vision is available and will be black and white, but if you have the flood light set to turn on during motion events, it will be bright enough to see everything in color as if viewing daytime footage. Audio is also captured by the built-in microphone during recording. I thought the audio quality was pretty good although voices can sound a bit “grainy.” Audio recording can be toggled off to comply with local laws and ordinances regarding recorded conversations. The speaker is also be used to play pre-recorded messages to visitors and delivery persons or the alarm siren. Since this device supports dual-band WiFi 6, pulling up live video and downloading video was fast and responsive. This will depend on the speed and bandwidth of your network, but since we are using mesh WiFi 7, I didn’t find notification nor loading delays to be significant and streamed video was high quality. Overall, the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro Gen 2 is a nice addition to our existing Ring ecosystem. It set up quickly and integrates smoothly with our Amazon smart home speakers, providing clear hi-res video quality. The caveat is that you need to have a subscription to view video clips, unlock AI features, and review event history, and now that we have multiple Ring cameras, the standard plan is required as the basic plan only supports one device. Professional monitoring is available as an additional add-on to a standard or premium plan.

This is a review for the new Ring Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen), Plug in model, Retinal vision 4K. Unpacking the camera comes with everything needed to install and connect to any type of surface (hard or soft surface) along with app step by step instructions. That is a plus for me. I am not new to the Ring ecosystem so everything was very intuitive when setting up and connecting. The app is very user friendly if you are new or old ring customer. For resolution I must say I am impressed with the frames per second speed. My router is further away and cuts in and out but this camera had no issues with WiFi strength compared to my other ring floodlight cam pro. There was very little lag which ever direction I moved the camera it captured the movement without delay. This is a great improvement and reason to upgrade from the older ring units. The LED lights are bright but will not fully illuminate a long driveway but good enough for a unit this small. I have quite a few ring cameras and this is a great upgrade addition. It is currently a plug in which is great but I plan on converting to hardwire because Im not a fan of wires or cables. Overall, I’m impressed with the resolution and the frames per second. Also, the WiFi strength considering this unit is located in the same area as an older unit that has issues with WiFi strength. I recommend this 2nd generation Spotlight cam pro upgrade you will be impressed. The 10x enhanced zoom is also a nice feature but as most security cams at these price points the clarity is still not clear compared to higher end models with higher resolution and zoom capabilities.

What got me excited I have many ring products, but never had a 4K camera and I wanted an extra camera to place on the exterior of my house. What I’m expecting I’m expecting the same easy set up using the ring app. I’m also expecting to see clarity on my app the likes which I haven’t seen before. What’s included in the packaging? Out of the box you get the camera, a power adaptor with a very long chord, 2 types of mounts, and the setup and warranty inserts. Let’s try it out The most difficult part of this installation was the actual physical installation. I don’t have a readily available outlet on the exterior of my house near the installation location, so I had to grab my power drill and create a path for the power adaptor. Once that installation was complete, you use the ring app, and off you go. You will need the subscription, so keep that in mind. You have features like live view, 2 way talk, and with the spotlight cam pro’s name suggests, you have a light. My first impressions I like the clarity. The light is bright and works well. I do wish that it came with a swivel motion. At least a few degrees in either horizontal direction. What stood out that was positive The clarity is easily the most positive aspect of the camera. What stood out that was negative I wish ring packaged some 3M adhesive mounts or something comparable. Sometimes you just don’t feel like drilling anything in, and want a way to mount a camera an easier way. All in all Ring continues to make great cameras. Adding a device on your subscription/app is easy and literally takes a few minutes. For anyone who wants some security on the exterior of your house with an actual floodlight configuration, this is a great way to go.

I like the hardware design of the Ring Spotlight Pro and that it comes with versatile mounting without me having to buy additional brackets and whatnots. It integrates very easily into the Ring ecosystem and setup was super easy. I’d prefer it more if it had a battery or solar charging backup option, but the AC power cord it comes with is long enough to cover the distance to the eave it’s mounted to. 4K recordings looks sharp and clear when viewing in the Ring app and only loses a little bit of clarity when doing so on other devices like the Echo Shows. Even with the Color Night Vision turned off, the images are crisp and lack distortion. It picks up and records sound pretty well, and the spotlight is timely in kicking on when motion is detected. And the light is impressively bright considering the compact size of the camera itself. I’m very happy with the distance it covers with the wide-angle view. You’ll need a subscription to take advantage of all the benefits of this spotlight camera, but even without one, it gets the job done.

The new ring Spotlight Cam Pro is finally a 4K quality camera from ring that improves upon one of the biggest complaints from most Ring camera users, video quality. The version I got was the plug in version so in the box you will find the camera, the mounting hardware and brackets as well as the power adapter that connect to the camera via a USB c plug. As with all Ring products initial set up and all settings are done via the Ring app. I already have the app on my phone as I already use a few ring products. This camera was replacing a previous gen Ring Spotlight Cam Pro that had 2 batteries in it. I paired that with the ring solar panel which was great in keeping the batteries charged however they would always seem to die in the winter. After installing the camera I ran the wire to an outlet that was previously installed outside for my Christmas lights. Luckily I was able to route most of the cable out of site under the eve and vinyl siding. Once the light was installed and powered up I was easily able to get the camera on my Wifi and I had the ability to adjust the settings to my needs. The camera features 3D motion detection which is radar powered meaning is limited to 30 ft of detection range. If you need motion detection at more than 30 ft then I would recommend turning off the 3d motion detection and sticking to the traditional motion zones that can be customized in the ring app. The 4k video quality makes such a difference in the videos as I cam able to see things very clearly. The 10x zoom is also great as the increased resolution allows you to zoom in with greater quailty video. This camera like the previous generation features 2 way talk as well as the siren that can be activated via the app. I feel like the speaker is of better quality than before but may be wrong. Night time videos are great as you do get color videos in low light and black and white video in total darkness. The spotlight is 600 lumens and does a great job illuminating the immediate area. Cloud storage of the videos does require a subscription which was not a problem for me because I already subscribe. Overall I am very satisifed with the improvements from Ring as I recently looked to switch my cameras to another company with 4K quality cameras. Ring also has released these cameras with POE capabilities which would be great as I can reduce the reliance on Wifi. I would recommend the Ring Spotlight cam Pro to anyone looking to install a reliable high quality camera at their home

Installation was pretty easy. A few screws and anchors...and you are on your way. The light is not very directional. What I mean is it floods the area with light, you can't direct it towards a specific spot to reduce the light shining into a neighbors house.. The light bars are on the sides of the camera. So trying to diffuse them in some manner is not possible without changing the camera angle. Another issue I have, while the lights are dimmable, it would be good to have the ability to use just one bar rather than it flooding the area with both light bars. Needless to say, I think this is more a flood light than a directional spot light. Another issue, the camera. It is only one orientation. If you need to mount sideways or inverted, there currently is no setting in the video settings in the app to rotate the output. That is a software fix. But it is annoying. I am trying to find a better mounting location. With it being on my under hang, it shine light into the neighbors house and the camera has an uncomfortable view over the fence. I hope my neighbors feel the same about having a camera looking over a fence. As for image quality. It is fantastic. Night vision is very good. The flood light fills up the darkest areas of my back yard. Unfortunately, it also lights up my neighbors yards, even when extremely dimmed. The schedules seem to work pretty well right now. So I am not waking neighbors at 2:00 AM when a cat is in the back yard. Overall, it works well, but if you have neighbors close by, they may be annoyed by the brightness. I guess that can be a bonus, if you don't like the neighbors.

A Clear Upgrade with Impressive 4K Detail

I recently added the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen), Plug-In, Retinal 4K in white to my home security setup, and overall I’d give it a positive three-star rating. There’s a lot to like here, but a few things keep it from being a perfect buy. Setup was quick and easy, especially since I already use the Ring ecosystem. It connected to my existing Ring app immediately with no extra steps or confusion, which made the whole process smooth and frustration-free. The jump to Retinal 4K video quality is genuinely noticeable. Images and recordings look sharp and extremely detailed, and that clarity even holds up at night. The camera does a great job maintaining outlines, movement, and facial detail even in low-light environments. The motion detection performs exactly as expected—responsive, consistent, and customizable enough to avoid most false alerts. The built-in LED spotlights are bright, effective, and a welcome addition for both visibility and deterrence. One feature I especially appreciate is the ability to adjust the brightness of the spotlights. Being able to fine-tune the lighting makes the camera more flexible for different times of night and different areas around the house. While it’s a strong performer overall, I’m giving it three stars because it feels like an incremental upgrade rather than a standout leap, especially considering the higher price point. Still, with its clear 4K video, reliable detection, and easy integration, it’s a solid addition for anyone already invested in the Ring ecosystem.
