Not a great buy, but great Customer Service

Hello All, I had purchased these earbuds from Best Buy website in January of 2019 they had been used only a hand full of times (less than 20 times for a short periods of time). Then all of a sudden they started to stop playing my music and calls all of a sudden. I ignored it for the first few times thinking that it was just the location I was in as it only happened indoors at a specific place. Then came them not pairing at all upon they being turned on. So then I reset both of the earbuds and then they would not reconnect with my Samsung phone after I deleted the pairing in my bluetooth settings (this is what their website recommends to try to fix the problem). I then contacted their customer service by email (that is the only way to contact them). The agents that helped me were great. They allowed me to send the unit back and they are sending me a different pair of earbuds by the name of "Pace". They emailed me a pre-paid label after I decide to exchange them for a different pair. All of this communication happened by email and only took about 4 hours for about 20 emails back and forth. All in all I would not recommend these specific earbuds to someone but their customer service is great. I have other pairs of their earbuds and they work great. I would not recommend these earbuds to someone or the charge+ (they are the same earbuds just a different case). But any other earbud by them that I have owned thus far are great. I hope this information helped you with your decision.

Good enough for me, your mileage may vary

Tl;dr Great form-factor, okay audio, okay controls, wonky Bluetooth connection, and awful noise isolation. This is my 3rd, technically 4th pair of wireless Bluetooth earbuds. My previous experiences are with the Jabra Active 65t and the Jaybird Run XT. I also have had multiple run-ins with Apple AirPods and am familiar with their pros and cons. The reason for returning the Jabras and the Jaybird was because of the relatively large size, causing discomfort when I lay my head on its side while in bed, and the use of tactile buttons, which would shove the earbuds further and further into my ear canals over time. Both of these complaints are deal-breakers when it comes to a device like earbuds. THE GOOD: Rowkin Ascent Micros address all of my complaints about my previous pairs of wireless earbuds. These are small, have okay audio, and have touch controls. You tap 2-3 times, or tap and hold to execute different commands. The list of controls can be found on Rowkin's website and companion app. The charging case is similarly sized to the charging case for Apple's AirPods. The case feels good in the hand, is kept closed magnetically, and can charge your earbuds for multiple charges. The earbuds are kept in the case magnetically meaning that if the case is somehow opened accidentally, the earbuds won't fall out of the case. Additionally, the case charges using USB-C which is great for an Android user like myself. The Micros come with different sized silicone tips to adjust the fit. While the medium tips fit me just fine, I opted to swap to the large tips to achieve a slightly “better” level of noise isolation (more on that later). Both sets of tips were comfortable to use over long periods of time. THE OKAY: Battery life is average. At 86% volume, during my current 2.5 hour listening session, my earbuds have gone from ~90% to 77% according to the app. But this is supplemented with the case's additional 14hr* battery life. (* I have not had to test this and am not sure if it is 14hr while charging both earbuds or if it is cumulative for charging a single earbud) Because of the diminutive size, don't expect audiophile grade audio. I would equate it to a $30 pair of wired earbuds, probably a C+ or a B-. Max volume isn’t the loudest, but this also means you won’t be disturbing anyone else if you listen with these in public. Good enough audio to enjoy any audio playback but nothing to write home about. You can change the audio profiles with the Rowkin Companion App (Instructions for download are found in the box with the product) which CAN help, but you must chose from 5 presets. Disclaimer: My thoughts on the individual presets are 100% subjective 1) Flat (Awful, in any kind of music, actively degrades audio quality. I’d almost argue that this statement is fact) 2) Electronic (My favorite and what I consider the "baseline" for the audio on this headset but lower frequency sounds leave much to be desired) 3) Acoustic (Mids get lost, can really only make out tenor-bass voices and vocals which kind of get distorted) 4) Rock (When listening to Rock music, vocals get lost or distorted pretty easily) 5) Bass Booster (I am not a fan of bass-heavy headphones {looking at you Beats and the mid-tier Sony bluetooth headsets} and the bass booster EQ setting is probably my least favorite) The controls are one of the popular complaints about this headset and Rowkin's Charge+ headphones. I had very little issue operating the tap-controls after 3 minutes of use. Occasionally I will accidentally tap an extra time or I will rest my head sideways on my arm which will press-and-hold and subsequently power off the headset but that falls squarely in the realm of user error and I will not fault Rowkin for that. What I will fault them for is the lack of volume controls on the micros themselves. Personally, I would rather have volume controls in leiu of being able to hail Google Assistant/Siri. Rowkin could fix this by either offering alternate control schemes like the Jaybird Runs offer through their app, or letting the user customize what each command does. THE WONKY: Trying to get these things to reliably pair first time is a fine art. When taking them out of the case at the same time, I can accomplish this herculean feat about 80% of the time. However, if you take one out of its case first, start audio playback, and take out the other, good luck. For lack of a better term, each earbud has two separate "modes," an independent mode where it functions as its own separate Bluetooth device (Appears in a device's bluetooth menu as either Rowkin Ascent Micro R, or Rowkin Ascent Micro L, for right and left earbuds respectively), and a dependent mode where one earbud is paired to the device and the other simply acts as the companion earbud for stereo playback. Getting the micros to transition from one mode to another is very difficult and 9/10 times requires me to return the micros to their charging case to reset them. While it is handy to be able to use each earbud by itself, I feel the implementation of such a feature leaves much to be desired. Additionally, I don’t experience connection issues when my device is in an adjacent room, but when I rest my head sideways on my arm, I have found that my arm will disrupt the signal between the two earbuds Finally, I have been experiencing difficulty getting the earbuds to re-pair automatically. Most of the time I have to go into the Bluetooth menu on my phone or Windows 10 Playback Devices and manually connect to the micros. This isn’t a connection strength issue as these earbuds use Bluetooth 5.0. Once they are paired, they function beautifully, but these quality of life issues are the primary reason these are a 3 star and not a 4-4.5 star. THE UGLY: “In-ear design with sound isolation” HAHAHAHAHA! That bullet is a joke. Yes, they do play audio directly in your ear but so do pretty much every pair of $5 earbuds on the market. These do not isolate noise at all. Even with the largest silicone tip inserted, I have to play with the angle to find the “sweet spot” where it blocks the most outside noise while providing the most volume. At this angle, I can still clearly hear both the AC run in the building I am in and over hear a pair of students studying for a calculus exam in the adjacent table from where I am currently sitting. At higher volumes, it won’t block medium to loud noises such as chairs moving and a crowd of people each having their own conversation, but it will block noises such as roommates in another room or typing on a laptop keyboard. If you’ve made it this far, let me just say that I love these earbuds. But I was also aware of what I was purchasing. If you want something with B+ sound quality, consider saving up for the Jabra 65t, or Jaybird Run XT or even the Sennheiser Momentum if you’re a baller who requires A+ level audio. Even after owning the Jabras and Jaybirds, I will be keeping these simply because of the currently unbeatable form-factor.

The case feels very premium, metal build rather than plastic. Sound quality wise they're pretty good. I would say a little better than Skullcandy Ink'd 2 but a little worse that UrBeats3. (Would definitely get the Rowkin App to adjust the sound profile). Battery life is mediocre but it's enough for the hour or two I have between some of my classes. The only thing that is complete crap is the touch controls. Expect them to work maybe 10% of the time...maybe. For me it's not a big deal as I have my smartwatch or phone in hand, but if it's important to you, DO NOT buy these. My favorite part is the type-C charging. My laptop and phone are both Type-C so this makes my life easier.

Great Alternative to Apple ear buds

These ear buds have superior sound quality compared to Rowkins earlier attempts for the sports/active life head phones. They fit great in the ear and come with extra cones for fitting larger or smaller ears. The app for find my headphones and the EQ function works very well. The EQ function is handy for matching to different types of content. I have very sensitive ears. These can worn for as long as you need without any discomfort. The battery life is excellent and recharging with the protective case works great. One issues I ran into was going between multiple devices it holds on to the last device used. It won't connect to the new unit until you go into settings and turn off the Bluetooth or forget the previous device. These excellent sounding earbuds with exceptional value for the money

As far as wireless earbuds go, they work. They'll connect, play music. The touch controls are not so great. Sound quality is okay. Connectivity is good. Not a very comfortable fit but I dealt. Here comes the disappointment.....Beware of sub-par support if you have an issue. I lost my charging case and Rowkin does not offer a replacement for this model. I lost it, so I wanted to purchase a replacement, understanding it was my fault. They'll just tell you to buy a whole new set. When I expressed my displeasure over this they accused me of trying to file a Warranty Claim for a lost item. This tells me they did not really even read my message. Extremely disappointed by this. Will not be supporting a brand that offers minimal customer service.

These earbuds were great, until the case stopped charging the buds. This is the second set that I have had that this has happened to. The first one lasted maybe 2 weeks, and the second crapped the bed after a few months and they are outside of the return policy so I cannot get my money back now.

I figured I would give the rowkin ascent a shot especially considering the benefits of a true wireless headphone. I charged them and put them in. Received a few phone calls and everyone complained about the quality. I even called T-mobile support and the rep kept having me repeat myself. Shortly after I started listening to music and I had to turn it all the way up to hear the bass that a few reviews highlighted. My wife said she could hear me breathing and asked that I call her back when I decided to put these away. Overall save your time and money. The normal wired headphones that come with the iphone are worlds better and thats a terrible thing.
