    This Thing Sucks!

My wife and I have had a Hoover carpet cleaner for the past few years and it worked ok, but always left the carpet wet, had a hard time with some stains and the bristle pads rotated in a circular motion all the time and seemed like it was harsh on the carpet, especially if left in one spot for too long. I decided to run a test on our formal family room carpet so I cleaned the carpet with the Hoover and let it dry for a day and cleaned it again with the Rug Doctor. As you can see by the attached picture, there was a lot of dirt left behind that this machine was able to pick up! So what are some things I like about this machine? Well, for starters there was no assembly required and it was ready to go right out of the box. The machine is large but the handle folds in half to help with storage. When turned on, the machine isn’t really any louder than any other carpet cleaner I have owned but it really sucks! When you transition from carpet to wood you can really hear the suction! The carpet is left damp, but it’s not wet, and it dries quickly. I really like how the brush only works while holding the trigger down as this helps you decide how aggressive you want to be with the brush. The same button for the brush is also connected to the cleaning solution/water but more on that later. The Machine is easy to handle for its size and I found it easy to maneuver around the house, although you will not be able to get under tables and will have to move them out of the way. The dirty and clean water containers are easy to remove but the clean water container can be tricky. Just remember to pull back and up instead of up and it comes out easy. If you just pull up, hinges for the folding handle can get in the way and make the task difficult. The opening for the dirty water container has a large mouth, which makes it easy to empty and clean the inside of the container. There is no disassembly needed to clean out the dirty water container like some other machines. All you have to do is pour in some clean water and swish and rinse. The cord could be a few feet longer but it’s still long enough to give you a good cleaning radius before having to switch outlets. While I really do like this machine there are a few things that keep me from giving it five stars. First there is the clean water container. You will need to mix the cleaning solution with the clean water and while there is a measuring cup with the cap to measure the cleaning solution, there aren’t any marks on the side of the container to see what ratio your actually mixing. There is only a mark to show 1.5 gallons. It would be nice to have extra marks for different solution ratios in the event you only want to clean one or two rooms and want to make a smaller batch of cleaning solution. Also, be careful swishing the water and solution together because the cap has a breather hole. Try shaking the container and you could find yourself sprayed with a water/solution mixture. I like the handle and the button layout but wish the handle came with a lever or button to release it as you currently just have to pull hard on the handle to lower it as it is held in the upright position by friction. I also wish there were two separate buttons on the handle, one for the brush head and another for clean water. I wish the cleaning solution was separate from the clean water so I could rinse the carpet of the cleaning solution. So far my dislikes are all minor things to me but the one that really hurts is the fact this machine doesn’t come with any accessories. For the price, this machine should at least come with a hose and upholstery tool! Even though I have some dislikes, the machine still works very, very well for what it does. If you can get it on sale or if Rug Doctor ever adds an accessory to the box I highly recommend it.

Rental type carpet cleaner that works great!

The Rug Doctor Pro Deep carpet cleaner is a great home carpet cleaner. The suction is very strong, and it pulls out nearly all of the water that you put down. The carpet is left clean and just a little damp. I have found that it dries in about an hour or two, at least in this hot weather. The clean tank holds 1.5 gallons and you mix in the solution in with hot water. This unit is very similar to the ones that you can rent at your local grocery store, but you don’t have to worry about it having someone else’s germs on it. It’s a fairly heavy unit but moves back and forth pretty easily, but turning it is a little cumbersome. It’s very wide and I was able to do a few rooms in my house that are 20x20 each and I was done in about 30 minutes. The handle folds down for storage also. Emptying the dirty water tank is easy, but you will make a little mess when you drain it…. dirty water will drip out of the intake tube if you empty it right away, at least that was my experience with it. Perhaps if I had waited a while, it would have dried out and not dripped so much. It has a solution empty indicator and a brush jam indicator as well to alert you of trouble. I do think the power cord is a little short and I would have liked it to be about 5 feet longer than it is. You get a small bottle of cleaning solution that will be good for 3 gallons, but I went out and purchased the Pet solution bottle. Buying this carpet cleaner is a great value, it works great and if it’s built like the rental units, it will last you a long time.

As soon as I took this out of the box I knew it was a well-designed product. I was impressed with the compactness of the unit and how easy it was to set up and get started. The included instruction manual was very easy to read and full of pictures. Even without the manual, the device is pretty intuitive. The clean water tank and the dirty water tank are very easy to remove and insert. A front hose access is available if you get the additional hose and wand, which I recommend for tight spots. Emptying the dirty water tank was very easy. There are handles all over this thing, which provides many different ways of carrying it around. Within 30 minutes of unboxing, reading through the manual, and filling the clean water tank with hot water & the supplied cleaning solution - I was already tackling the carpet in our master bedroom. 2 passes with the soap, a couple passes of scrubbing, and then 4 passes of suction, was enough to provide a well-needed carpet cleaning. We placed a fan in the room and within several hours the carpet was dry enough to walk on, which tells me that the dispensing of the solution and the retrieval of the dirty mix was perfect. Having spent many nights pulling industrial carpet cleaning hoses and wands around, I was a bit skeptical at first. However, I am very pleased with this unit. I wouldn't recommend it for huge spaces, but it is the perfect rug cleaner for apartments and smaller homes. When done, the unit folds up neatly for compact storage. While I didn't get the extension hoses and wand, I would highly recommend it for tighter spaces and edging.

A marvelous cleaning machine with a simple set-up

When it comes to cleaning the house, there are few things that can’t be done easily except ‘real’ carpet cleaning. You can vacuum and steam as much as you want, but when it comes to deep cleaning, there is only one product that can get the job done — Rug Doctor. In the past I’ve used the carpet shampooing machines to spot clean as well as sweep and entire room, but I’ve always had to use a rented machine from a grocery or hardware store. I’ve never invested in owning one, but given the numerous times I’ve had to spot clean carpets in our house by hand, it makes sense for me to own my own Rug Doctor. I chose the Pro Deep Canister Vacuum rather than one of Rug Doctor’s other models since I wanted to have the same type of cleaning experience as I did from the store rented units. The Rug Doctor arrived in a very large box. It was heavy and awkward to move around. This made me concerned that the vacuum inside was going to be heavy and awkward as well. Since I’d never attempted to purchase one of these units before, I didn’t know what type of set-up was going to be required. I was very surprised to find that NO set-up or assembly was required. When I opened the box, the first thing I saw was the user manual and small bottle of shampoo, that Rug Doctor included. I lifted the cardboard carton to find the vacuum sitting atop another cardboard carton completely ready to go. Even though I was concerned about the weight, I attempted to lift the unit out of the box without assistance and without tipping the box onto one side. Again, I was surprised at the weight. The unit still weighs around 35 pounds, but it’s not as heavy as I thought it would be given my previous experience with the rentals and how heavy the box seemed to be. The Rug Doctor arrives in its “storage mode” with the main handle folded down. There is a carrying handle in the center of the unit that makes it easy to pick up and move without rolling it around. The main handle fold up and into a locked position with no problems. It actually locks into place without making a sound at all. I had to release it and make sure it was actually locked in place before continuing with the set-up process. The next step is to release the lock on the clean water tank and fill it (to its fill line) with warm/hot water. The tank holds 1.5 gallons of water and the ratio of cleaning solution to water is supposed to be 3 ounces of solution to 1 gallon of water. For my first round of cleaning, I chose to fill the tank up three-quarters of the way to the fill line so that it would be the correct ratio with a full cap of solution. The lid to the clean water tank is actually a measuring cup for the solution. This was a very convenient option for measuring in my opinion. After you have the water/solution in the clean water tank, you are ready to plug into power and start cleaning. The manual recommends using a 2-pass cleaning method (2 wet passes and 2 dry passes) to get started. So, that’s what I did. Now, aside from the weight of the rental units of the past, the other thing I remembered clearly about them was how loud they were. I was surprised again to find out that while the vacuum still makes a decent amount of noise, it’s not a deafening as the rental units. I spent a few minutes cleaning a section of our living room (about 5x5) carpet. This particular section had two distinct spots left on it from daily use. One of them appeared to be a grease spot of some sort and the other was of unknown origins. The spots are the reason I focused on this particular area of our house for testing. After a few passes of the Rug Doctor, the spots were gone and the carpet appeared to be much cleaner. After about 1.5 hours, the carpet was still a bit damp. This is probably the most heavily trafficked area of our home and for many years, it’s where our dogs spent most of their time. With that in mind, the carpet has a unique odor to it. After the first cleaning, I would say that the standard cleaning solution (Rug Doctor offers different options of cleaners) removed about 40% of that odor. I’m hoping that with subsequent cleanings and by switching to the cleaner that is specifically for pet cleaning, the odor will be completely removed. I simply adore this carpet cleaning machine and I’m thrilled to have it in my house. I love that I no longer have to go through the hassle of renting one of these deep cleaning monsters from the store and that anytime I need to really clean my carpets, I have a Rug Doctor within my grasp.

Anyone who has carpet flooring knows that it’s inevitable that the carpet(s) will get dirty one way or another. I previously owned a decent carpet cleaner that I thought did a “good enough” job. But then I got the Rug Doctor Pro Deep cleaner and my idea of a clean carpet was redefined thanks to the Rug Doctor. Right before the 4th of July, I did a rug cleaning with my previous rug cleaning machine and as I said before, it did a decent job. I had guests over which created a lot of foot traffic across the carpets and by the next day, the carpets were in need of another cleaning. I got the Rug Doctor Pro and I was impressed by how EASY it was to set up the vacuum right out of the box. No tools needed. I had expectations of this Rug Doctor but I had never imagined that it would clean the carpets to near new clean! The dirt of the high traffic areas of the carpet was lifted and removed without having to go over them over and over like had done with the previous machine. Upon seeing how clean the immediate carpet was, I decided to move onto the rest of the rooms. I have to mention that the cleaning tank on the Rug Doctor Pro is large which reduces the need to empty and refill often. I did three medium-sized rooms on one tank whereas, with my previous machine, I would have to empty it at least three times. What was even more amazing was that the Rug Doctor erased a longstanding problem area on the carpet that occurred when a friend’s dog had an ‘accident’ months prior. In the past, no matter how often I used my other rug machine or the type of super cleaner liquid I used, there was always a ‘ghost’ outline of where the accident occurred. The Rug Doctor tackled that area with ease and now the carpet looks clean and blends with the rest of the floor. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever see it like that ever again. I also have to mention the fact that there’s hardly any wetness after you clean the carpet whereas my previous machine had me opening doors and windows in order to expedite the drying process. The Rug Doctor Pro has some reasonable weight to it and basically requires the user to use both hands when pushing and pulling it. There are no attachment hoses that come with the Rug Doctor but you can purchase the cleaning hose separately if you should desire. And a nice little bonus is that the Rug Doctor handle folds down to allow you to store it in a closet etc. Whether you are looking to maintain your new carpets or if you’re looking to give new life to your existing ones, the Rug Doctor Pro is the answer.

I have had some professional carpet cleaned in the past and the Rug Doctor - Pro Deep Canister Vacuum did as good of a job, if not better. Better mostly due to not having an quick in and out mentality as some professionals would do. This vacuum removed most of my old 7+ year deep stains that I would not have thought would have been removed after such a long time. Some required a bit more effort than others, but the effort is just how long you hold the Soap and Scrub and Scrub pass with a few passes of suctioning up the water. This vacuum is simple to use and only requires a soap and water mixture. Fill up the water tank and this thing is ready to go. The 1.5 gallon clean water tank was enough to clean my large living room plus a bed room. So how do I know this worked? The attached photo's shows the worse stain I had in the carpet that was at least 7 yrs old. The after photo shows some minor residue after a good scrubbing with the unit and this was the worse of the remnants after the cleaning. Every other smaller stains were spotless. After my cleaning and emptying the dirty water tank, here are a few things I noticed. 1) The water was disgustingly dirty. 2) Even though I vacuumed with my regular vacuum cleaner prior to using the Rug Doctor, there was quite a bit of lint in the tank. This just shows how deep of cleaning this vacuum does. Like any other vacuum, link does get trapped underneath the rollers, so I would recommend cleaning them out after use. Overall, great product and would highly recommend.

This this is amazing. It really is. I have lived in an apartment (the same) for 11 yrs! The apartment manager sends a company for free about 2 times a yr and they steam clean.that method for my carpet and how old it was didn’t help past a week. I was never happy. I knew it needed a deep clean but didn’t want to rent one since I didn’t know how good these rug doctors are. O my. I should have used this years and years ago. It went from stained to semi new. Also. We had allergy problems and this seemed to help as well. The dirty water was nasty black. This rug dr. Is powerful and easy to set up and use. Also u can buy attachments for this as well. Which I plan to do it’s so great. U can not and will not go wrong with this. Pays for itself after a few uses.

Having 2 young children in our family, our house can get rather messy, especially the carpets. Over time those bright floors became darker and darker due to dirt. I've used other carpet cleaners before and they are large and cumbersome. The Rug Doctor matches excellent cleaning abilities with a very light and compact design. Pros: - It cleaned our carpet really well with professional precision. - Easy to clean: comes with 2 tanks (1 in the front and 1 in the back) for Clean Water and a Dirty Water tank. They are easily detachable and can hold a large amount of volume. - Compact design. Initially the Rug Doctor looks massive with the Red/Black color scheme. As you begin to use it, you notice several levers and buttons that adjust the handles and once you're done, those handles fold down so you can store the Rug Doctor away. You don't have to worry about it taking so much space in your closet. Cons: - The cap covering both the water tanks were almost impossible to unscrew. I am hoping it was just mine and not a design flaw. - Does not come with the cleaning hose which is sold separately. There is a connector at the front bottom for you to connect the hose, and I was searching the box and Rug Doctor to see if I misplaced it or if it was stowed away in a secret compartment. None. I would have loved to have that accessory in order to clean above the floor carpeted areas such as stairs. Overall, I am really impressed with the Rug Doctor. Such an efficient cleaning machine.

First things first - this is no toy! Rug Doctor is known for professional class cleaning appliances and this one is a dandy! The unboxing experience is a joy. There is zero assembly required. The unit is ready to go right out of the box. The handle folds down leaving you with something that kind of resembles a piece of rolling luggage. It is a bit heavy, my wife needed help lifting it out of the box but the design is genius in that it makes it much easier to find space to store it when it is not in use. The on-line videos were sufficient to get us started but did vary from the appearance of our unit and some of the operations suggested on-line differed slightly from the included manual but this was a minor issue. Rug Doctor includes a small bottle of cleaning solution to get you started so you can get started right away. However, if you planning on cleaning more that a small area you will want to buy a larger bottle right away. Operating the machine is really simple. Push and hold a button on the handle and slowly roll the machine forward and the back over the same area. Let go of the handle and repeat the process to vacuum up the dirty water. We were somewhat surprised by the weight of the machine and the resistance created by the spinning brush. After awhile you may want to take a break just to catch your breath! The results are very, very good! The Rug Doctor will pull an embarassing amount of crud out of your carpets and is quite good at removing the water afterwards. We were able to walk on the carpets after an hour or so and everything had completed dried by morning. As others have mentioned, the screw caps on the tanks are fastened VERY tightly out-of-the-box. But they will come off if you exert a little effort. Also, emptying the dirty water tank is a little clumsy due to the placement of the cap. We made a mess a couple of times. Also, managing the power cord while trying to keep both hands on the handle can get a little frustrating. My advice - work small areas at a time. It makes everything easier! In summary, my carpets haven't looked this good since they were new! The Rug Doctor Pro Deep Canister Vacuum is a keeper.

I will start out by saying in the past I have used a lot of smaller carpet cleaners, nothing nearly the size of this one. So I had some pretty high hopes that it would do a much better job than others I have used. Right off the bad you can tell this thing is a beast. It is quite heavy, which might be a problem for some people just trying to maneuver it around the house. Especially if you add a gallon of water to it to add to the wait. That's really the only negative thing I can say about this machine. It really couldn't be any easier to operate. Just fill up the tank with soap and water to the fill line, put the canister back on the machine, plug it in, flip the switch, and you are ready to go. There really isnt much more to operating it than that. They suggest in the manual doing one pass forward and backward while activating the sprayer, and then doing another pass back and forth with just the vacuum to suck up the water. I found that to be enough for most areas. There were a few times I found myself going back and forth over a spot a couple times just to get it completely out. The carpet in our house was about 12 years old and had quite a bit of wear and stains on it. I cant say this cleaner took out all the stains and made my carpet as good as new again. But it did a very respectable job of cleaning the carpets beyond my expectations. The water that was in the dirty tank was quite black, so I know that it did its job. Cleaning it out was very easy too. Just push the button to release the dirty water tank, lift it out, dump it out and then put it back on the machine and you are ready to go. It really is a VERY simple machine to operate. One other thing I noticed about other machines is that wen you are removing and filling tanks there was constantly dripping all over the place because the seals on the tanks weren't very good. With this carpet cleaner not a single drop spilled out of either tanks after multiple filling and refilling and dumping. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to give your carpets a good deep clean, maybe even for starting your own carpet cleaning business!

The Rug Doctor Pro Deep Canister Vacuum is truly a beast in terms of size and performance. Despite its large size, it was very easy to assemble (simply pull it out of the box and flip the folding handle into place) and it is actually surprisingly easy to maneuver unless you need to clean underneath a table or something else without much clearance. In these cases, it is best to simply move the furniture out of the way if possible as this will allow you to give the area a full and complete cleaning. As previously mentioned, the main handle easily folds up and down which makes the unit easier to store when not in use. This handle securely locks into place when in the upright position and really makes the entire unit feel very sturdy while in use. When it comes to the actual cleaning, it really does an incredible job. We don’t wear our shoes in the house and we use a regular vacuum often so I thought our carpets were relatively clean. As a result, I was surprised to see just how much dirt this vacuum sucked up and how much cleaner the carpets appeared afterwards. I was also pleasantly surprised by just how little wetness remained after cleaning and how quickly everything dried. I have used other carpet cleaners in the past which left the carpets much more wet and I was expecting the same with this particular carpet cleaner. The only con I can come up with is the fact that this vacuum does not come with any sort of attachments. My house has two sets of carpeted stairs but it isn’t feasible for me to use this vacuum to clean the stairs without some sort of attachment. There is an attachment port on the front of the vacuum so it is clear that attachments can be used with this unit but none come with it. Given how well it performs in general and how not everyone will have this same issue, this isn’t much of a problem and it can be easily solved by simply purchasing the attachment separately. Overall, the Rug Doctor Pro Deep Canister Vacuum is an incredible carpet cleaner and I highly recommend it!

This Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaner works well and I am mostly happy with it, although it has a few issues. The water reservoir is somewhat small. You can only clean about 8 ft x 8 ft before you need to empty and refill. On the other hand, if the tank was bigger, it would make it heavier and much harder to push. My other complaint about the reservoir is that the hole to fill it is located on the front side of the tank along with the fill line. That means when I’m filling it from the faucet, I can’t see the fill line. Fortunately, the tank is translucent so I can still estimate how full it is, but it would be better to have the fill line all the way around the tank. Also, the dirty water tank empties through a hole on the back of the tank. This makes it more difficult to dump the water from the tank. The warning light for low water in the reservoir does not come on, but since the tank is translucent it is still easy to tell when the water is getting low. On the plus side, the unit as a whole is fairly light and easy to push and carry. Removing and replacing the water tanks is easy. And it cleans the carpet quite well. It even comes with a small bottle of carpet shampoo with enough solution for 3 tank fills. Overall, I am pleased with the product despite some minor complaints.

Rug Doctor Pro is very easy to use and instructions are super easy to follow. Clean water canister cap it’s also a measurement cap for carpet solution. Add carpet solution and water, plug in and you are ready to go. Keep in mind, water does add weight to already little bit heavy device so be careful if you carry it on stairs. Clean water canister is located on the back of machine and dirty water canister on the front of the machine. Machine does very good cleaning job, picks dirty water back into canister in front and I am completely satisfied with it. Push-up handle can be folded backward for easier storage or to provide easier access to caring handle which is located between canisters - on top of the machine. I was hoping that it comes with cleaning hose attachment which I saw on the advertising but it’s not. I am still happy with machine and probably will purchase that extension additionally (for furniture or car seats cleaning). Other thing that I was hoping for is retractable cord, but this machine does not have that function. If your residency have carpets or lots of rugs, go for it. One of the most important thing also is - this machine will save you a lot of money on your water bill, as it uses small limited quantity of water.

So far I've been pretty pleased with this rug doctor. It has cleaned my carpets really well and leaves them smelling fresh. You wouldn't believe the black water that I empty out of the dirty water tank after using it! Don't expect a miracle though. It's not going to make really old and worn carpets look brand new, but it sure will clean them! Pros: -Two tanks. One for clean soapy water and one for dirty. -Easy to use and setup. -Works as well if not better than the rental units from the grocery store. Cons: -Heavy and hard to steer -Did not get rid of all old stains on the first pass. Lightened them up, but did not completely remove them. I'll try pre-treatment in the future and hope for better stain removal. -Did not come with any attachments. Will have to buy those separate in the future. I'd recommend anyone looking for an effective carpet cleaner without having a company come do it!

This unit works as described and is much easier than having to rent one and hope it works Ok. The instructions are complete and make getting it ready fast and simple. Add soap, warm water, plug it in and it is ready to go. The long power cord allows it to reach throughout the house well and it is easy to push. Once done, jut pop off the water tank, unscrew the fill cap and dump the dirty water. There were several stains in our living room carpet from food spills. We tried several sprays to loosen and clean-up, but none worked completely. The Rug Doctor made most all of them completely disappear, and the ones that remained were much improved. The handle folds down to make it easy to store. The quality seems really good and we look forward to using it for years to come.

I was super excited to get my first rug doctor because we have a messy dog and teenagers! I am the simple just vacuum and get out the towel and scrubber and get up the mess off the carpet but not anymore! I used this machine on a simple bathroom rug and the dining room carpet. (Yes dining room, we usually eat in the kitchen anyway.) On the bathroom carpet, keep in mind that it is a long shaggy rug and although there needs to be two people in the room, one to hold the carpet and one to push the machine, the product worked great. Keep in the mind the suction on this machine is really strong so I definitely not attempt to do this again BUT it really cleaned the this turquoise carpet. I traditionally just throw it in the washing machine but the scent never really got out but with the rug doctor and the cleaning solution, my rug is like brand new. I was really surprised. AGAIN, the machine has a really strong suction so you have to have someone hold the rug and the other person use the machine. When cleaning the dining room rug I noticed that the machine stopped spraying! So I was able to speak with someone and they are awesome by the way, and keep in mind, if you notice that the machine turns on but the water does not spray out, there is probably air in the line and all you have to do is put take off the clean water tank and seat it properly 10 times and it should work again perfectly. I am so happy that that is all I had to do! So I continue on and I am very happy with the cleanliness of the carpet, I was able to clean the whole area pretty quickly and I let it dry over night. It was a little damp in the morning but by the time I came home from work it was completely dry. And storage is awesome as well, I was a little nervous because when you think rug doctor you think about the big bulky machine. I am super glad that the machine folds up and I can fit it into the little space that I have in my linen closet. I really love the clean water and dirty water tanks. Keep in mind that the clean water tank, there is a pee size hole in the knob. Be extra careful when you are transporting back to the machine. It states in the manual that the dirty water should be put in your toilet or the bath tub. I would recommend the bath tub because this machine picks up some serious dirt and your water maybe really dark or black. I would definitely buy this again but next time I would pick the package with the attachments. I am eager to try this machine on more upholstery.

I could not be happier with my Rug Doctor Pro and attachment. I have rented and had MANY different rug shampooers and also have had my rugs done professionally over the past 50 years and none can even come close to this Rug Doctor Pro. I loved it so much that I had to order the attachment for furniture, stairs, autos and just about any small spaces you can't normally reach. Best investment you will ever make. I just did the great room rug 3 months ago and there is a VERY distinct line of before and after, although unfortunately I couldn't get the picture to upload. The only thing I would have liked is a retractable cord...but that would only be an added feature that would most likely make it more expensive, so I will have to just wrap the cord when done...no big deal...and a reasonable price compared to others that only do half the job. I thought my 15-year-old rug was a piece of trash...not anymore. Oh, I forgot to mention...I have two dogs that have all kinds of accidents and the attachment will come in handy for the small spots that need immediate attention.
