This past month I started with one Samsung 1TB 860 EVO SSD as a best bang for the buck upgrade experiment for my main rig. Being that it is a nearly $9,000 system I was not expecting much, but then again for the sale price of $159.99 what did I have to lose. The system is a server class work station that I mainly use for video editing, browsing and general use, NOT a big gamer, although it will destroy performance highs in most games. With a mid-level 6-core 12 thread Intel Core i7 processor, 64 GB of quad channel RAM, dual RX-480 8GB GPUs in Crossfire, a Corsair 1500 Watt power supply and no less than 60 Terabytes of internal storage space it was no surprise when I didn’t notice a huge performance increase, sure there was a bit of a gain, 8% to 10% at best, but this gave me inspiration to try out this upgrade on some of my other machines. I was already running a 500GB Samsung SSD in my main laptop, with is going on 10 years old, Intel i7, 32GB RAM, nVidia 660GTX 2GB GPU and a 17.3” screen makes this a tough laptop to give up and even though the swap was from a 500GB Samsung SSD to a 1TB Samsung SSD the performance was similar to my workstation but allowed me to get creative and swap my 2nd 1TB SSHD to a larger 4TB HDD (granted that took some power tools and skills) I now have a 10 year old laptop that still beats 90% of brand new laptops so I am happy with the 860 EVO. NOW for the big surprise, I have a 3 year old Toshiba laptop with a Intel i7, 12GB RAM, 17.3” touchscreen and onboard graphics, For the better part of the last 3 years this backup laptop has been a paper weight 90% of the time, with the other 10% for skype calls when I am on the go and need both laptops, otherwise I was very disappointed in that $2,400 investment and I had always thought that the main hang up was the lack of a dedicated graphics card as video editing and even Windows 10 is very graphic intensive, I had thought many times of selling it and was constantly offered a fair price for it but secretly I wanted to troubleshoot some more and find out if it really was that much of a difference, on chip Intel graphics verses AMD or nVidia dedicated graphics, well I can honestly say that the results are in and the culprit of the 2 minute boot times, slow reactions to clicks, and poor browser performance was in fact due to Toshiba cheaping out on the 1TB hard drive they installed in this near flagship system. With the Samsung 1TB 860 EVO the Toshiba has become quick, useful and dare I say enjoyable, I genuinely would have banged my head against a door had I sold it for the $800 to $1,000 I was constantly offered for it. With that I also decided to even out Toshibas odd one 8GB & one 4GB RAM modules and purchased a 2nd 8GB module bringing the laptop to 16GB (still half of what is in my main laptop) but none the less it made a additional improvement. With this happy increase I decided to get my parents a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO for Christmas and upgrade their aging Dell which took around 4 minutes to boot, and browsing the web was worse than waiting for water to boil, it took forever and they were considering getting a new computer, but the struggle of learning a new OS (they are still on Windows 7) and other features was not something they were looking forward to, so I got them one of these drives and cloned their boot drive, making it a simple swap and their performance is up 400%, yes it was that dramatic of a difference, & thus I also upgraded their RAM from 4GB to 8GB and now with the exception of their aging GPU in that system, they are extremely happy with the new life that it has gained. And finally I purchased a 5th 1TB 860 EVO to upgrade one of my other PCs from a tiny 128GB SSD and to my surprise it was also a dramatic improvement of at least 200% so with all this real comparison data, I can whole heartedly tell you as a IT & hardware expert of 28+ years that if you want to breathe some more life into pretty much any computer or device you own or are planning to own then the SINGLE MORE IPRESSIVE ITEM YOU CAN GET TO DRAMATICALLY IMPROVE PERFORMANCE IS A SAMSUNG SSD. Keep an eye on Intel & Samsung to bring new 3D & V-NAND drives to mass market this year, but as for best single item for under $200 to improve performance across the board, get a Samsung SSD.

Just like that new high-end luxury SUV you've had your eye on, the Samsung 860 Evo 1TB is the SSD that won't leave you feeling like a soccer mom. It's fast, did I say that already? If you're still booting your computer from a mechanical hard drive, first - slap yourself. It's 2018!!! SSD'S are affordable! Even if 1TB is not in your budget, a smaller, less expensive drive still has all the space you need to use as a boot drive. Anyways, if you are still using a mechanical drive and switch to this SSD, you will rejoice when your computer goes from dead off to fully on and functioning in a fraction of the time it used to. Windows, if that's your OS, will respond much quicker. If you happen to use this drive as storage or for gaming, you will notice faster load times and write times. So if you're ready to get rid of that old van and step into a sporty new SUV with the speed and flash you desire and room for all the kids junk too, Then this is the SSD for you. *Airbrushed flame paint job sold separately. **seriously, this SSD does not come with a SSD mount, $10 will get what you need.

I was thinking of upgrading my All in One, but wondering at the price of a new machine, since mine is not too old. Did a little research and found that I could replace the HDD with and SSD without too much trouble! Chatted with my local BEST BUY associates, and purchased the Samsung. No need to purchase a rail, since my All in One was ready to go ... used the software with the EVO and duplicated the original HDD ... installed the SSD and away she went. (Do check the software, as I didn't put the partition for restoring the computer on the new drive, although I could have, just missed the instruction) In any case, WHAT A DIFFERENCE and my older All in One will serve for some time to come.

You can't beat Samsung quality in their SSD's. This thing is fast for file transfers and you can expect it to work far longer than a spinning disc hard drive. I've had several hard disc drives and it's a question of when, not if, they will crap out. This drive has millions of cycles before it will fail being written to but even then you should still be able to access the files on it. Definitely worth getting one to get added life from an old laptop with a failing hard disc drive. It's the cheapest but most effective upgrade of an older computer.

As an IT professional, I've installed a lot of SSDs. Samsung is the ONLY brand I've used that I haven't had at least one failure with, and they account for about 1/4 of the hundreds of SSDs I've installed. I've used over 24 brands. Samsung is not the least expensive brand, but they are definitely the best drives in their price range. The 860 EVO series SSD line is my go-to now for any computer that needs a SATA drive because it doesn't have the faster NVMe interface. If your computer has NVMe, I recommend the Samsung 970 EVO line. Both lines are the fastest & most reliable drives in their class.

Installation was very easy and the data transfer was a breeze. I prefer the Samsung EVO versus other brands as I have used them before for other laptops and have never had any issues. This thing is just lightening fast and is unbelievable compared to the mechanical drive this replaced. It boots up in less than 5 sec. This is the fourth SSD that I have installed, one in my laptop and three now for various family members. If I need to but another one for someone else I will definitely go with another Samsung EVO. It's not just the price, but the quality!

Loaded the Samsung Migration Software from the Samsung Website... it worked perfect. Remember to turn off all virus related software, close all programs, and place computer in AIPLANE MODE. You will need a POWERED SATA TO USB CABLE, OR POWERED DOCKING STATION FOR THE SSD DRIVE FOR THE MIGRATION TO WORK! Once completed, swap the SSD to your HDD in the laptop or computer. When you turn on the computer, all software and licenses, etc. will be in the new SSD drive. My 6 year old laptop now boots up in about 15% of the time. Excel Spreadsheets open quickly now!

I have replaced all my hard drives with SSD drives, and the speed upgrade is crazy. I bought this on sale for $118 (tax included), and it is a massive 1 Terabyte drive. The price for these has really gone down, I paid more than that for 250GB SSD in 2017 because that was all I could afford. Now, I've cloned that drive, to this one, I will never have to upgrade the C drive again on that computer again. It just gets no better than this. Boot up speed is almost instant, and now I have more capacity than I will ever use. Perfect !! When I saw the price, I couldn't afford not to get it. I'm happy with this product.

This is my 3rd Samsung SSD. I purchased this one to be used as my data drive for RAW video footage for editing & compositing in my new PC build. Because of my past great experience with Samsung it was a no brainer to go with them again. I am using an internal Samsung 870 Evo Plus PCI Express as a cache drive for my after effects & premiere database files since there will be a lot of writing and clearing of data from that since they can take more write cycles and are faster, but if you are looking for a data drive, or even operating system and programs or games, this is an AMAZING drive and you will not be disappointed.

Very happy with this drive. Boot-up time is seconds compared to the minutes it used to take with my old HD. Would absolutely buy again. I have three HD's in my PC. This SSD is used for my operating system and software programs and as a result, everything runs much faster. I have a 4TB WD that is used for backup and the 1TB WD that was replaced by this SSD drive is used to store my digital photos. I previously used 4 external hard drives for these tasks and it was very slow. I love this new configuration that was set-up by the Geek Squad!

Well my W Digital 1TB died a sudden death at 4 years old inside my MacBook Pro. I decided to investigate other options rather than try to badger WD for my new HDD, which was plagued with slowness, random crashes, and weird section issues literally a year into buying it. Boot-up is faster now. Went with a SATA . Was able to install it in my older Macbook Pro with very little fanfare, and it was super easy to format. It's fast, its stable, and supper fast. Really brought my older machine up to spec. I would definitely recommend this.

Super groovy high technologicalificationalized! Well, this is for my son's desktop which is used for both college and gaming. Which is more intense? I have no clue but I do know he says it's GREAT! I may get one for one of my other laptops to replace the standard hard drive. Maybe. But for now, my son is thoroughly impressed and exceedingly pleased. Priced fairly and performs superbly! No disappointment to date and we don't expect to be. Can I get a huzzah? Go ahead, say it. purchased the 860 evo as a OS replacement for my hdd for my laptop and had it for almost a week now, performs great boot and app load times have increased greatly along with read and write speeds for certain files, after cloning the os to the new ssd with samsung data migration (45 minutes) it was a simple plug and play no need to adjust boot load order or configure the bios(win 10 home), easy install if your laptop has an access panel, if not take you time and research on how to disassemble your laptop properly, would buy another as a second storage or as a backup drive

Samsung - 860 EVO 1TB Internal SATA Solid State Drive, was a great choice for and “”Xbox One X” ** upgrade from a mechanical drive ** I would have purchased the 2tb, but at the time it was not on sale. I have used and purchased “Samsung ssd for PC, and Mac and have not regretted it. It’s ( IMO ) a fast drive, totally plug and play or if you clone from an existing drive, will save you time, from installing your software finding your license, etc. ** // purchase Dec.2020 which was on sale $99 bucks from $199 talk abou savings //**
