    Samsung Notebook Pro 9 NP940X5n-X01US 15"

I usually don't leave reviews but had to with this laptop, it is amazing! I was going to make a crazy long review on why i picked a 15" laptop over a 13" and how it took me over a week of reading articles, watching youtube videos, and reading reviews from buyers. Then i was going to talk about how i can never make up my mind when spending money especially when its over $1000 and that i dragged around many sales associates for over 3 hours at bestbuy while i handled every single laptop in the building. Now i will stop right there but now you have my backround If you are researching the Samsung Notebook 9 Pro be aware that some articles and youtube are for the last model with 7th gen intel or the non Pro model, and they look very similar but can be very different. Lets talk about the NP940X5N-01US that you are actually looking at on BestBuy 8th Gen i7 processor 8550 16gb Ram (this is DDR4 not DDR3 as listed on Bestbuy, bonus!) 256gb SSD 2gb DDR5 discrete video card 1080p LED screen (no 4k but 4k in a laptop doesnt make sense because drains your battery) Backlit keys and adjustable how bright Ports! 2x3.0 1xUSB-C Full HDMI, MicroSD These are basic stats when comparing but note the error above, it could be important. (DDR4 installed) Lets talk about other hidden features There is no fingerprint scanner on this laptop but does have a IR facial recognition to work with Microsoft Hello. So if you need a finger scanner sorry, but if you like facial recognition like most phones use you are in luck, i am signed it before i can even reach for the keyboard... flawless. This is also very thin, makes my old laptop look like a 1995 all over again, i handled many in store and i think it was the thinnest out of all the 15" laptops, i could be wrong though Ok lets go straight to what sets the Samsung Notebook Pro 9 apart from all other laptops. The S-PEN, there is NO OTHER laptop that offers a pen that mounts in the chassis. (should we call this a 3in1?) Its there wherever the laptop goes, never needs to be recharged, tips can be replaced. Samsung has mastered the pen and their screen because of Note phones and other devices that use it. 0.7mm Tip, tilt detection, and some rating of over 4000 for the pressure you use. This laptop is beautiful, metal finish outside, with black interior to look good over the years. It does attract finger prints but can be wiped away. The speakers are next to garbage, zero bass and not very loud. But they are very clear and if you have a Bluetooth surround system you will likely use that over a laptop anyway. I have only had for a few days and keep finding out more features and tips for this. I have owned Samsung phones for years so it almost made sense to get a Samsung laptop and was lucky to catch this with $100 off. I should have waited to leave a review but with some misleading articles i wanted to set some things straight. If you have a question you can comment my review and i will try to help within a day. Oh and also when you use 2in1 and flip it into tablet mode there is actually a magnet that helps snap it open when flipped.

    It's perfect for me

I was a little nervous that I was just buying it because of being a fan of Samsung Note devices, (I've had the note 3, 5, and 8).. but I spent so much time comparing and it just came down to wanting a digitized touch screen with a stylus that I didn't constantly have to charge or connect via bluetooth and that is conveniently stored within the laptop. The biggest problem I've had is just the battery runs down much more quickly than I thought it would, but apart from that, there are very few little complaints that I have about it. The pros far outweigh the cons so far. :) I love the keyboard (even though it doesn't have a number pad). The click and feel and spacing is great. The track pad is also quite smooth and responsive.

    Amazing computer for college students

This computer lasted my about 4 and a half years. The only reason it didn’t last long was because of an unfortunate soda spill. I gotta say this computer was amazing for me in my college time. The 2 in 1 was great for being about to take hand written notes. I’m a computer science student and I never had a problem with not being able to run programs and install software.

I like the screen, the lightness, and the light-up keyboard very much, and this machine is more than adequate for my needs. A few things I don't like - I tend to use it on my lap a lot, sometimes with the cord plugged in, and the battery gets so hot I have to stop for a while or my legs actually feel burnt. Also the location of the power button, on the side, is easy to hit inadvertently. And I've found the touchpad to be overly sensitive - I've adjusted the settings, but I still find myself clicking accidentally sometimes. The power button and the touch pad sensitivity are not game-changers, but the heat of the battery cost a star in my review.

Great laptop - with a few exceptions

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Overall, this laptop has been amazing, and if I could give a half or quarter star rating, it would get a 4.5 or 4.75 from me. I love Samsung products, and this one has not really disappointed, for the most part. My two complaints are the power button location and the sound. I often set my laptop down on its side, and because of where the charge cord inserts, I have to set it on the side where the power button is. It is not flush, so often setting it on its side causes the laptop to shutdown. Also, when I pick it up off my lap or table, I inadvertently push the button in, causing it to turn off again. Not a deal breaker for getting the laptop, but if you are moving around quite a bit, then it does get annoying. I am working on my masters degree online, which means I have to participate in discussions, watch online videos, listen to online textbooks, and even just personal stuff. Depending on the quality of the person who posted a video, sometimes, I have to pick up the laptop and hold the speaker up to my ear to be able to hear things. If a video or recording is not very loud, you're going to have difficulty hearing it with this laptop. I have not tried headphones or earbuds, but they are on my list to hopefully help out. Shouldn't need to do that, though, in my opinion for a laptop at this price point. Other than that, it has served my purposes well. I love the size and the quality, but Samsung could definitely do to change those two features in future editions of this laptop.

The Perfect 2-in-1 Notebook I was looking for

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had many Touch screen tablets/2-in-1's including Asus, Fusitsu, Dell and Surface pro for the past 18 years for my medical practice and electronic medical record. Most of them were tablets. I searched for the best tablet intensively and I am very satisfied with Samsung notebook 9 pro 16GB for the past four months. First of all, the tablets are mostly 13 inches which is very light but too small. I made a right decision to get 15 inch 2-in-1. It is so fast to boot as it takes about 10 seconds. My productivity improved greatly as it is very fast. I don't understand why many doctors using PC and monitor in each exam room. This notebook is very cost effective, powerful and also mobile alternative. I need only one notebook ever. I love face recognition. I carry this thin, relatively light notebook wherever I go for mobile productivity. This is the first review I've ever done and I recommend this notebook to any physicians who use medical record system and to anyone else who needs fast, reliable and productive notebook.

After trying and suffered using plenty of devices from Apple (MBP), HP (X360) and Microsoft (surface book 2 - the worst) I give a chance to use Samsung (I use a galaxy note 8) and its integration. This device its amazing, great battery, size and the better part its the weight. Light and well build, with great performance. The only issue its the power button its a kind of weird where its located. the integration with Samsung Flow its amazing, to unlock it.

I love this laptop for its productivity capabilities. I mainly used this for college. The only gripe is the battery died and I cannot find a replacement so i spent $1,000+ for something that died in about 2+ time frame.

heat & battery are deal breakers

It is a nice computer and would love to give it a 5 star, however, the battery when fully charged says it's suppose to last for 7 hours but doesn't. I'm not even doing crazy gaming or things like that just exploring my new laptop and it last maybe half the time. The computer also gets hot even when I have it on a laptop fan it still stays hot. The sound on this is so so I wish it was a bit better. Going to look for a new laptop as the battery and heat is a big deal for me. Hopefully they will fix this issue soon as I love samsung but a little disappointed with this computer.

Best Laptop at this Price Range

I spent hours debating between the 15" HP Spectre and the new Yoga 920 when stumbled on this brand new model in the store. I have a Note 8 and the apps all work seamlessly and the one gripe I had with the other laptops was the gaming performance. This has hit all my criteria with gaming. I wanted a very portable work capable laptop and I in one very stylish and clean package can game on the go and still have battery to do my work. Best laptop on the market for the price. High performance in a small and light frame that still surprises me with its power and ability seamlessly go from graphics heavy games to browsing the web

    Stellar battery, but thermal throttling

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This laptop has been great so far. The battery life has been nothing short of spectacular, especially given how light it is. The FHD panel looks amazing, and it even has an "Outdoor Mode" that makes it ridiculously bright. Beware, it is bloated with a lot of unwanted Samsung apps out of the box. I simply reinstalled Windows from installation media. I ran into a series of driver issues, but this was because I needed to download the "Samsung Update" app to only receive Samsung-specific drivers; The generic drivers didn't work too well. The only issue is that, while synthetic benchmarks are great, the laptop throttles like crazy while gaming, even at relatively low temperatures. This severely degrades framerate. It makes a cooling pad almost necessary for gaming.

Issues out the box, but most resolved

Out of the box, I had a few issues. The webcam I could not get working with any website or app. I searched for days and did many actions to try and resolve. After finally breaking down and contacting Samsung directly, I was given a Samsung app to download with checked and performed updates to the OS, drivers, etc. I still have yet to get the camera app working properly but at least the webcam and everything else is working so far. I just think it would have been nice to have everything working right out of the box.

The only problem I have with the laptop is the screen defects. On the same day, I bought the laptop it had a screen defect like a couple of white hues on the side of the screen when I watch dark videos or look at dark images you can see it. So I exchanged it out on the same day, but I had the same problem again. I don't know if its a thing with these Samsung model laptop. I am quite bothered by it and a bit disappointed. Other than the screen defect, I like how fast and smooth it is. I would've bought the surface book instead if I had the money.
