Customers recognize the POWERbot Essential's excellent cleaning performance and powerful suction, frequently praising its effectiveness. Many appreciate its relatively quiet operation and ease of use, although some users find the navigation system needs improvement and that its height restricts access to certain areas. The app functionality also received negative feedback from some customers. Overall, the robot vacuum receives positive feedback for its cleaning capabilities but has room for improvement in navigation and app design.

I bought this robot vacuum on Dec. 16, 2016 and was about to buy another one for another level of my home. It worked flawlessly until last week (02-06-18) when it quit rolling. It sounds like the plastic gears in the drive wheels are stripped. Samsung customer "support" tried to trouble shoot by having me take out the brush to see if the sound went away (of course it did not). Since it is 2 months out of warranty (comes with a one year warranty), they want me to send it in. Online, the drive wheel units are $100 each. I have no idea how much they are going to charge me. Anything that cost as much as this vacuum did (even on sale) should last longer than 14 months

Awesome...if it would last longer than two months

We bought the first powerbot back in May for our upper level and after a week we loved it so much we bought a second one for our lower level. It cleaned very well and we were amazed, if not disgusted with how much dirt and dog hair it managed to pick up every day! The dirt container is fairly large and we emptied it every other day or so...whether it needed it or not. We have mostly wood floors with a large area rug and carpet in the bedrooms on both levels...the vacuum does s good job transitioning between the two surfaces. They got stuck behind furniture occasionally and sometimes needed assistance finding their way back to the charger (usually after sucking up something that required a power down), but not often enough to be annoying. They work fantastic for about two months, and then the error codes kick in. The first vacuum insisted the left wheel had a foreign object stuck in it...it didn't. We checked it multiple times and cleaned it thoroughly but it would always shut off about 30 seconds into cleaning insisting there was something caught in its left wheel. So luckily we had purchased the 4 year protection plan and went back to Best Buy to exchange it for a new model. The replacement worked fine. Then the model on our lower level started with the error code...this time insisting it had something in its right wheel. Same story...ended up replacing that one. New one worked fine...for about two months. We went through the same thing with each new model...and ended up taking them back for replacements. The new replacement models insisted there was something stuck in its cleaning brush...we cleaned the vacuums pretty regularly and made sure there were no strings or objects stopping it from doing its job.
Needless to say we are now on our third set of replacement models. As long as Best Buy continues to honor the warranty we will keep replacing them...besides the error code malfunction they do an amazing job keeping the house clean. I just wish Samsung would figure out why they are malfunctioning:(

Good Vacuum; Terrible App

This vacuum will never replace your full-sized unit, but it does a pretty good job of keeping the pet hair under control. I don't have big clumps of hair under the couch or beds anymore, and the kitchen floor is remarkably crumb free. Each day I empty a fairly substantial clump of hair and dust into the trash, so it's definitely helping. Like other reviewers, I've learned how to prepare the house when I leave, ensuring cords and other items are cleared. The vacuum does get stuck in certain areas (under chair legs and between the toilet and sink is popular), but I'd estimate that it completes its program and makes it back to its charger 5 out of 7 days. I've given up on the app, however. Doesn't work on an iPad, nor can I get it to work with my android phone. I think that with robotic vacuums, you get what you pay for, and while this unit is more expensive than much of the competition, it seems to do a much better job than them as well.

Needs work, a lot of work

Ok so this vacuum has great suction, BUT, if you have rugs with a pattern it won't work! Literally thinks it is at the edge of stairs or at a wall and won't work, just keeps stopping. Also doesn't get anywhere near baseboards or walls leaving a complete strip of unvacuumed carpet. ( roomba has a spinning wheel that cleans this area and does it quite well in comparison to not at all ). Then there is the holding bin, it's large enough, but the bin rarely fills because the hole to let it fill the bin is too small and clogs before almost anything gets to the bin, meaning I have to empty it much more than I should and also have to clean the undercarriage more often too as the dirt and hair backs up under the vacuum. The app is virtually useless. Has a hard time finding it's charging dock and usually drags it away from the wall making it almost impossible to find it again. Gets stuck on furniture forcing it to quit. Fix the problems and this is a great vacuum but until then I'd use the roomba which also has flaws but smaller ones ( they both get stuck and they both have a hard time finding their dock for charging. ) combined together would probably make the perfect vacuum robot !! Oh this vacuum also has problems with high pile rugs also textured rugs like you would put by your front door won't work with them totally goes around any lip or bump leaving the area not cleaned. Very disappointed and although I still use the product I have to use my upright vacuum to finish the job. When I can afford to I will upgrade to the new roomba. But right now I have to go find the vacuum I just heard the tone for I'm stuck.

Foors Are Always Barefootable Clean!

I did a lot of research online -- via Best Buy, Amazon, CNET and Consumer Reports. Ultimately, we chose this Samsung over the Roomba 980 based on reviews and the Consumer Reports review.
Sam starts his rounds every day about noon. He's still learning his way around the house. He likes to clean around the bar stool legs, but he gets stuck in them about every third or fourth cleaning. When that happens, he'll cry for help for a while and eventually go to sleep if nobody comes to help. Sometimes he runs out of battery before making it home; and sometimes it takes him a while to figure out where he lives when it's time to go home, but I chalk it up to his not being perfect or a human. He's a computer and I figure eventually he'll remember -- or not. When that happens -- about every second or third day -- I just pick him up and take him home. Absolutely no big deal when I consider that I didn't have to get the upright out and spend the time and energy vacuuming!
We have two cats and I guess about 15-1800 sq. ft. to clean. He does a fantastic job with cat hair and tracked cat litter. One of our cats ignores Sam and the other one is truly freaked out (still) by his presence when he is working.
Sam finds his way into every room where the door is open and vacuums in a way that is organized and not sporadic (which you can see in the vacuumed carpet patterns). He is too tall to fit under our couches/recliners, so I sweep under and behind them, as well as in corners or tight spots every now and then, He goes from different floor materials (tile, carpet, memory foam mat in the kitchen, door mat) with no problem, however, he does struggle a bit to clean the area carpet in the living room. It has a table covering a lot of it, and I think between that and the plushness of the carpet, Sam kinda gets confused. He tries though. And, if it looks like he's missing it more than not, no biggie -- I have an upright I can use. Again, I'm not expecting perfection from a robot.
He is expensive. I was lucky to catch a sale and to have found a promo code, but I will tell you, after using him for about 4-5 weeks, I think it is the best many hundreds of dollars we have spent on one item in a long time. The floors (mostly tile and hardwood) are ALWAYS barefoot walkable clean and cat hair is GREATLY minimized! This is evidenced by how much cat hair continues to collect in the dirt/dust storage bin every day or so.
We love Sam and wouldn't want to live without him! Treat yourself. You will not regret it.

Samsung VS Neato
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Compared to Neato.
The good:
Much better navigation, less bump and run. Less getting stuck!
Much better bagging system
More powerful suction
Brush works better on bare floor
The bad:
No multi day schedule (but you can use the app anywhere to turn it on)
No boundaries to keep bot out of certain areas
No side brush
Height doesn't allow it to get under some beds or kitchen cabinets.
Summary:
If you can grab it on sale, it's a better buy than the Neato. The Neato keep getting stuck in my house, then crying for help in the middle of the night.

Excellent When Design Flaw fixed
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
All powerbots have a design flaw preventing cleaning randomly over several weeks use, easily fixed by customers. When the side bumps furniture legs, or backing into walls, the side lifts under motor torque and triggers the sensor for wheel extension, shutting down (protects when picking up off the floor). Some cardboard and tape in the wheel well can keep the wheels proper, so the Powerbot can be used with confidence. Instructions at robotreviews.

Does not reach corners and cannot return to base

The setup went smooth and I was able to pair it with android app. But when it started, it started moving diagonally. When I checked online, many ppl had same issues as the tiles were installed diagonally.
Second issue was that it did not reach any corners. And at last it never made it back to charging base.
Had to return it.
