I was using my friends monitor on a brand new computer build I had just done. My friend needed his monitor back and so I had to buy one. After spending $1500 on my build, I wanted to wait a bit before spending more. I started looking at monitors. I knew that I either wanted one big monitor or 2-3 smaller monitors.
After looking around a bit, I saw the UD590 on sale for $499. It was a couple hundred more then a normal 1080P monitor at this size and offered future proofing. Not really thinking, I grabbed a friend and went to my local Best Buy. I didn't even really look at it, I just bought it and walked out. Then I started thinking, WOW, you just spent $500 on a monitor. I really started thinking about returning it. Let me tell you, I'm so happy I didn't.
Once I got her up and running, I instantly fell in love. Everything is so vivid and crisp, so clear. I started watching 4K videos and my heart began to thump in excitement. Next came the video games. Even though I'm only running a single GTX 970, I still put everything in 4K and OMG. Older games come back to life, newer games have never looked better. My jaw was on the floor. I have heard of 4K/UltraHD but I never really thought it would be that much of a difference.
I'm very happy with this monitor and I'm even happier I didn't return it but there are some annoyances that may bother people.
1. The stand sucks and kinda flimsy. I don't mind how it looks but some people will surely be put off. The stand is kinda weak and feels like it will break if you try to move the monitor around to much.
2. No VESA mounts. Not a problem for me but people will not be happy about that.
3. Poor viewing angles. If your not looking square at the monitor, then your picture sucks. The off to the side you are the blacker it gets.
4. Menu buttons are behind the monitor. Makes it very difficult to change your preferences. You do get used to it rather quickly and I don't mind so much but you may hate it.
To me this monitor offers far more pros then cons. If your in the market for an affordable 4k monitor, then you have two choices (IMO) this and the Asus PB287Q. At the time, The Asus was $40 more and didn't warrant the extra money from me but if you want a VESA mount then that will be the one you need. Overall this is a helluva monitor that offers great performance for the money. The picture is fantastic and you will surely get many compliments when you show her off.

Read online and watched reviews for hours on end before picking this up with some of my tax return. Was very thoroughly impressed. The joystick menu control, the Freesync technology, and the vesa mount were all perfect for this monitor and make it truly shine. It always blows me away to turn this beauty on and start gaming.
Pros:
-Wonderful display, beautiful colors, Freesync greatly reduces tears
-Awesome joystick menu control
-Has automatic sleep function
-Affordable 4K display with lots of space to work/game with
-Great 1ms response time
Cons:
-Stock stand is way too skinny to accomadate a monitor this size cause extremely bad wobble (recommend a VESA mount, it has 75x75)
-Screen darkens when looking at an angle, making a central viewing point almost necessary
-Have recently found a similar monitor for about $120 less (AOC 28" 4K)

After just one month of having this monitor the light bleed on all 4 corners has become so noticeable that's it's distracting to do anything on the monitor. Especially gaming. I need to learn my lesson when it comes to buying samsung products. I went through 3 samsung 4k TVs before I decided to go with a monitor instead. Each one having pretty bad light bleed issues. Will not be buying another Samsung product again.

The new world of Ultra High Definition has arrived! This is a really outstanding monitor. 4K is a total leap forward from 1080p. I use this monitor for PC gaming, particularly flight simulators where the extra resolution is a big plus.
Appearance and design: Very sleek and made with nice materials, metal look and gloss black. Easily the best looking product out there. The only negative is that it doesn't adjust for height but in a normal desktop height its not needed.
Installation: An important consideration in connecting a 4K monitor is the cables, the best one to use with this is a DisplayPort. These aren't too common so fortunately the Samsung comes with one as well as an HDMI. You'll want to use the DP as its the only one that can carry a 3840x2160/60hz signal.
Picture Quality: The resolution is astonishing and this model is equipped with a good range of picture adjustments although not as much as an HDTV. Probably normal for a PC screen. The Game Mode looks particularly good for that use. This product also has a high response rate of 1ms which is essential for games. Use of a 4K display for gaming comes with the challenge of having an extremely powerful GPU. A good compromise is to run at 1440x2560 and have the display upscale the picture. This still looks incredibly sharp and lets you runs higher graphic settings.
Value. A very good price for this monitor. There are WQHD screens nearly as expensive. Definitly worth the price.

I've owned this panel for almost 2 years now and I can say I'm impressed. The picture quality is fantastic! Out of the box, colors, brightness and contrast were decent. Played with the settings a bit and quality improved. Then I recently color calibrated the monitor and wow. Picture is great now! Highly recommend calibrating your 4K monitor. 1ms response time is some what accurate. Testing it online I saw best about 4ms, which is still good. Faster setting for response is what I would recommend. I'm not a professional gamer by any means, I enjoy the visuals more than anything. A solid 60Hz/60FPS+ is just fine for me. Still better than 30FPS haha. I'm not sure what monitor snobs complain about as far as TN panel viewing angles. This TN panel still looks good even from either side. May have been past TN panels, not Samsung so not sure. Cable routing hook on the back of the stand is also nice...Only complaints I have with this monitor is the stand is not that sturdy. Maybe my OCD but I constantly make sure it's centered, away from edges of my desk so it doesn't fall because of the flimsy stand. I also wish there was at least 1 USB 2.0 minimum on the monitor for software/driver patching or uploading images for possible screen savers. I hope that Samsung upgrades this same monitor series down the road. Minus the UE570 which is basically the same thing as this one just a lighter frame. I hope the new UEUHD series models, not sure if Samsung will continue this lineup, comes with Displayport 1.4 (1), at least 1 USB port, keep the same number of HDMI 2.0 ports (2), a more sturdy stand and thinner bezels. I would recommend this monitor or UE570 (updated version but same) Very good budget friendly 4K/60Hz, 1ms response monitor for just about every task on your PC.

Beautiful 4K monitor with some shortcomings

I bought this beauty for 4k gaming on my PS4 Pro and to connect to my Macbook Pro for editing when I have clients over. First things first, the Pros:
-Colors on this monitor are crisp and vibrant. I'm always amazed by the quality of the picture even after months of ownership.
-Very minimalistic monitor for those who love this aesthetic.
-The 1ms response time is perfect for the avid gamer. Maybe not the hardcore professional gamer, but for most, this is a big cherry on top of the cake.
After using it for five months, I; however, have discovered the shortcomings of this monitor that unfortunately disallows it from being perfect. A lot of these faults can be discovered online if one does extensive research.
-While both HDMI inputs are 4K, be warned that only one of them is 60hz and the other is 30. Again, might not matter to most, but knowing before buying may help a lot of people.
-This is something everyone must know: THIS IS FULLY HDCP 1.4. You have been warned if you want to stream Netflix/Amazon/Roku to this monitor. This is not HDCP 2.2 (which is the latest version for copyright 4k streaming).
-If you're someone like me who almost exclusively uses this monitor for a console, there is no Audio Out input. The monitor does have a 3.5mm headphone jack, but if you plan on using external speakers, you will have to buy a converter to work around the lack of no internal speakers and Audio Out input. For people who might use this to play on say, like the Switch that only has HDMI and no Optical Audio like the PS4, plan ahead.
-This is nitpicky, but the stand is a bit flimsy. Still holds up well though.
Overall, I really like this monitor and I don't regret my purchase. Playing Battlefield 1 and Uncharted 4 on this monitor is absolutely amazing and spectacular. While the specs do come up short if you want to be totally up to date, the quality that's packed into this monitor still holds it above most of the competition.

This is a TN panel which is why price wise it is so cheap. Don't fall for it. While it is a high-quality TN panel it still doesn’t make it worth the money. It is 10-bit panel (8 bit + FRC). Usually there is a good difference between a native 8-bit panel vs a 10-bit panel (8 bit + FRC). The colors are usually a lot richer and more accurate. With this monitor there is a difference, but it isn’t much of a difference compared to other 10-bit (8 bit + FRC) monitors or it’s 8-bit counterparts as there should be. For example, I have a triple monitor setup. I have a 1080p VA quantum dot monitor, a 2k TN g-sync monitor and this TN 4k monitor. I constantly prefer looking at my other two monitors over this which shouldn’t happen since it is a 10-bit 4k monitor where the others are 8-bit and with less resolution.
Upon first opening this monitor you’ll be amazed and be like “this is great! Totally worth the money!” But after months of using it I got buyer’s remorse and used it less and less. The colors just weren’t as sharp as I wanted. The viewing angles were awful (TN weak point), the contrast was really bad (also TN weak point and everything always looked grey no matter what I did in NVidia control panel or on the monitor itself. There was no depth of picture.), the huge bezels made it not fit on my desk well. The stand itself is very wobbly as well. I ended up putting it on a mount. But they put the mounting screws at the top of the monitor instead of the middle of the monitor which made it hard to get in the right spot and balance it appropriately. I don’t know why Samsung did this.
In my opinion if you are going to buy a 4k monitor you want sleek small bezels, a sharp picture, good color accuracy, great contrast, and good viewing angles. You also don’t have to break the bank these day since they have become more mainstream. I wouldn’t recommend getting a 4k panel that isn’t an IPS or VA. I sold this monitor and bought the LG 27UK600 which is fantastic and has all the things I just listed. Which I recommend getting instead since the price is similar. I don’t know how much more it was because it’s constantly on sale, but it is worth the price difference. If you look side to side at Best Buy it might not look better due to the way they have it setup. But once getting it home you see the difference. Plus, it comes with fake HDR10 which is better than no HDR10.
So, you might have read all this and gone. “Well, I’m using it for gaming. I want the fastest response time which is 1ms.” But let’s be honest the mass majority of people don’t have a computer that can run 4k games at 60 fps at good settings. If you do you probably have enough money to buy a more expensive monitor. If you are using this on an Xbox One X or PS4 Pro it will be alright but the colors, viewing angle, and contrast leave a lot to be desired since you won’t see much of a difference. Where with the LG 27UK600 you will especially with the HDR. The difference between 1 ms and 4 ms isn’t noticeable. Unless you are some esport athlete which you wouldn’t be using this monitor for and would be using a 1080p 240 hz monitor to get the most competitive edge.

I picked this up for $280 and couldn't be happier. Sharp picture, good contrast and brightness levels and of course, the 1MS response is great for gaming.
I was on a RX480 graphics card and freesync worked nicely at 1080p but either my graphics card was faulty or AMD drivers suck bad and it would cause the display to flash when it was enabled at 4k. Ended up upgrading to an GTX1080 and it pushes 4k without breaking a sweat.

A 2015 4K UHD Monitor in 2024

This monitor has held up fairly well over the last six years since I purchased it in April 2018, and is still functional now in April 2024. I'm starting to feel like the technology has progressed far enough that I should buy a newer, better model, but if I stick with this one I can probably get another few years out of it.
I should, however, note that I've been using a secondary gaming monitor for all of my video gaming these past two years or so. And, despite the lower resolution on the gaming monitor, the framerate, quality, and color make it the obvious choice over this one for gaming.
In the year 2024, I do not believe I can any longer recommend this monitor. I do believe Best Buy no longer sells this monitor new, but Amazon does, and they're charging $400 for it. At that price point you'd be better off going with a newer monitor. You can find comparable or better monitors for half the price.

The picture quality is very nice on this particular monitor. It's a great value at this price point. I'm not real fond of the very basic stand. There's just not enough adjustment options with the stand/Base of the monitor. Therefore, this monitor is not the best choice if you plan to use it at various angles or heights. I really like the fact that this monitor is somewhat future proof with the on-board HDMI 2.0 inputs on the back. It's a nice feature for someone who does not have readily available Display Port or Mini Display port options on their graphic cards.

Great for the price but lacks some basic features; it is not height adjustable and does not easily tilt. The image is excellent when sitting directly in front of it but distorts when viewed from above or below, it also loses color when viewed from an angle. Finally, the monitor's stand allows too much wobbling if your desk is not extremely sturdy.
It's a good choice for the price, but I wish I would have spent a little more on a better quality product.

At this price point, this monitor is a GREAT deal. To be clear, I'm just a casual user of this monitor-- I use it to browse the internet and play the occasional game or two. I am a fan of the latest technologies which is why I definitely wanted a 4k monitor. I have an NVIDIA graphics card, which means a G-sync monitor would be better... but like I said I'm just a casual user. This does have AMD Freesync.
It claims to have a 1ms response time which is more the sufficient for my needs. The colors are bright and vibrant, but that may be because I compare it to an LCD on my work laptop.
I plan on using it for my XBox One S to view 4k videos, as well as my desktop computer. Luckily, this has 2 HDMI inputs in addition to the DisplayPort!
Yes, the stand is not super sturdy but the height on my desk is acceptable and I don't plan on moving it often, so I have no issues with this.

Stellar Panel, makes some misses on design
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The screen itself is everything I could have asked for. A well-made, bright, 3840x2160 panel with a matte (glare reducing) finish. The only gripes I have with this are the "interesting" design choices for setup. The quintessential Samsung Joystick interface never ceases to infuriate me. I prefer having buttons on the side/bottom of the screen to change the settings. Also, the location of the inputs (in the center of the backside, facing backwards) doesn't allow for a clean-looking setup. Lastly, the power cord has a 90 degree bend right at the power prong, which does not suit my surge protector. Not every power cord design option will suit every person, but I understand. If these design preferences suit your personal needs, I give it a 5/5.
Note- I have not tried out the "multiple simultaneous PC input function" yet
tl;dr, The screen itself is amazing. Setting it up for a tidy, neat desktop use, though, can be trouble.
