In general, I'd say that these are very nice headphones. I'll go through the general points of my thinking. Audio quality: These headphones have very nice sound. I'd say they're very close to the Sony MX1000, and a little less bass than classic Bose over-ear headphones. Noise cancelling: This is where I feel the need to take away a star. The normal noise cancelling is nice. It isn't as comprehensive as the Sony headphones. However, if you're familiar with noise-cancelling headphones, you'll know that you tend to feel some pressure on your ears while cancelling is turned on. Since these cancel about half as much sound as the Sony, they also apply about half of the usual pressure. My girlfriend can't wear the Sony headphones, but these may work for her. The point where I need to take away a star is the difference between using these headphones for music, and using them as a headset. You can't turn off the noise-cancelling, and the programming doesn't work the same way for a phone call. Rather than blocking out sounds during a call, it blocks the background noise for the people on the other end. However, you hear everything. When my girlfriend ran water in the sink about 10 feet away, I felt like my head might as well be in the sink for how the sound seemed to right in my ears. Appearance: I'm a big fan of the classic styling of these headphones. The leather is nice, the ear-cups are comfortable, and they look much better than the standard plastic blocks of most headphones today. Controls: After using the Sony headphones for a year, which has a touch-sensitive side for controlling (standard swiping gestures), the physical button on these seems like a step back, and a bit more difficult to use. It definitely takes some getting used to, to know what the headphones will register as a press of the button. Here is a general guide: 1 press - play/pause or answer/hang-up 2 press - skip forward 3 press - skip back There are also functions for fast-forward and rewind, but I haven't bothered with them, as my patience has run out for figuring out exactly how to use all of the controls, and I'm satisfied with just the above. Overall, I'd say that these are a good pair of headphones, and if you don't like the usual pressure of noise-cancelling headphones, they are a good alternative to the top-end headphones.

The sound quality and noise limiting qualities of this model headphone is off the charts! Being a lifetime member 9f the high fidelity club I really can appreciate the cordless beauties! Even with the music off, the noise deadoning this unit provides is fantastic.

During the Holidays I ordered the top 4 Noise Canceling Wireless Headpones to test before I purchased - The Sony M3, Bose II 35, Sennheiser PX 550 and Sennheiser HD 1 - in my opinion the Sony’s $349 has the best noise canceling, Bose $299 seemed the be the most comfortable but for me and at $249 The Sennheiser HD were a no brainer - the sound quality is as true as it gets, they are not the loudest (by far) of all of the head sets, if that’s what ur looking for and extreme bass go with the Sony’s but if u want the puriest sound without fatigue this is your best bet - the Sennheiser HD are also very comfortable, you will definitely enjoy them for those long periods of listening. The noise canceling is just right for me it doesn’t block out all the sounds like the newer Sony’s, PX 550’s or Bose but Sennheiser did something magical to make them just right. It did not take me long to decide that I was not going with the Bose, the sound quality was just flat which was disappointing to me, not what I expected from Bose. I really wanted to like both the PX 550 and the Sony M3 - The PX 550 were uncomfortable after long periods and although the touch pad was extremely responsive better than the Sony, The PX 550 still had it flaws, it was at times to responsive- a strong wind and it would skip a track, the Sony’s touch pad was not good at all, I felt so frustrated at times using it and for that price point nothing should be fustrating to you. Now, don’t get me wrong I would not pay $399 for the Sennheiser HD’s but to catch them at Best Buy for $249 during the Holidays was a steal- I’m so happy especially having the chance to test all 4. I love all genres of music Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, Reggae, Classical etc you name it and The Sennheiser HD’s performed brilliantly. If you can catch them on sale as I did for $249 although they have been around for years trust me u will feel u made a good investment.

Best deal out there after 349$ discounted price

The headphones are built exceptionally well. All the details where other brands tried to cheap out sennheiser just did an amazing job.The noise canceling isn't the best out there(comparing to bose) but the sound is way better all around and you don't get the headaches from the noise canceling waves like other brands which looks like degraded the sound quality too. The connection with my samsung s7 takes less than a second. You probably need newer devices especially TVs with Bluetooth4.0 to enjoy the quick wireless connection. My only problem is that they disabled the ear cup volume and phone calls controls when you decide to go wired and give you a plain wire without any controls on it in the box. Well i didnt like that at all but still love them and giving 5 stars because the sound, look, wireless connection and the 349$ price. You can get an extra wire for 25$ from wired hd1 or momentum headphones with the volume and phone call controls just like i did and they are perfect.

The build on these headphones is great, and the stilling is amazing if you like the retro look. I cannot stress enough how the metal, leather, and design come together to give these headphones their amazing look. These headphones are comfortable depending on the shape of your ears and if you have a head of small diameter; however, they could cause some discomfort due to their clamping force and if the seam of the cushions rests on your ears. The Bluetooth functionality is great and one of the best features is that you can use these wired without having to turn them on in case the battery is drained. There is enough noise cancellation and air tight seal to block most of the unwanted noise while listening. Phone calls are good, and the features are straight to the point and not overwhelming. Where these fall apart is in the sound department. These headphones have better than average sound, but lack mids and highs. It is ok to prefer a bass heavy sound (which these have plenty) but not at the expense of other sound frequencies. These are not the headphones that will make you want to listen to your music collection again because you are discovering sounds you never heard before (unless you are coming from under $50 headphones). If you need something with good build, ok sound quality, and good noise cancellation there are comparable choices with a much more attractive price tag out there. I bought these on sale for half the price and still think they are not worth it. A much better choice are the Sennheiser pxc 550 if you care about sound and listen for extended periods of time, I am definitely exchanging mine for the pxc 550.

As a radio DJ starting in the 1960’s, Sennheiser is a name I’m totally familiar with and respect. I was excited learning about their noise cancelling headphones and couldn’t wait to try them. Since I already own the Bose QC35 noise cancelling headset, and the HD1’s are in the same “class,” I thought it would be helpful to compare the two since if you’re in the market you’d probably compare these two on your own. Honestly I have never heard a pair of phones with quality like the HD1’s. I think the best way to describe the sound is “clarity.’ It’s like the musicians are right in front of you. You can close your eyes and pick out each instrument. The Bose are good, but they have a kind of signature sound, missing a little in the mid-range. Now some listeners really like this, as in loudspeakers some buyers choose a pair with more ‘warmth’ or more ‘bass.’ I just felt the Sennheisers had the truest to life sound. The build quality of the HD1 is very good. It’s very easy to adjust the ear pads to your head. The controls on the right ear pad are easy to ‘find’ when you’re wearing them. I especially like that the volume is controlled by a little ‘rocker’ switch. I find it easier to adjust the volume with it than separate ‘louder’ and ‘softer’ buttons which are used by most other manufacturers. Comparing them again with the Bose there are just two things I felt Bose did better. The noise cancelling with the Bose was superior, but not by much. I compared the two models standing directly by my furnace and then by a washing machine Switching them on, both immediately removed any bass noise. The Sennheiser left a little of the higher frequencies through. The other feature I found missing in the HD1 was the lack of upgradability. The Bose unit like many other headphones sold today link to a smartphone app. Using that app, you can upgrade the firmware of the QC35 when one is available. You can also, and this is cool, change the level of the noise cancelling circuit at any time. Also you can time the headphones to shut down if you like. None of this is available on the Sennheisers. OK, bottom line. I’m not sure either of those “cons” would keep me from purchasing the HD1’s. If you’re going just for sound quality, for most people Sennheiser will win. If you absolutely need the best noise cancelling then the Bose is the answer. Either way, check out both of these fine headphones at Best Buy when you are in the market. You can’t go wrong with either one.

Bought these headphones for my son for Christmas. The noise cancelling function produces shrill sounds, so clearly defective. Most stores have 30 returns, so I was shocked when I looked up the receipt and saw Best Buy only allows 15 day returns, Best Buy is clearly defective, too !! Bye Bye Best Buy !!

First thing is that the quick start guide is a confusing multi-lingual mess. Download your language appropriate manual right away from the Sennheiser web site and you will be much happier. Overall I found these headphones to have a great full range sound to them. The noise cancellation feature did not seem to hamper or effect the sound clarity and range as I experienced with another brand I won't mention but starts with a "B". Pros • Case is a little on the thick side and quirky shaped but durable with mesh pocket for other cords. • Appreciated having a second soft case provided. • Ear pads are soft, headset is balanced and not too heavy. I would say it is not the best I’ve ever worn but overall pretty comfortable for extended periods • Great sound and full range. • Superb noise cancellation. • 2 year warranty. • Paired easily with several devices and had no issues simultaneously connected to 2 devices. Did not try NFC pairing though. • Did not really do any serious battery test but it seems to have a fairly long battery life. After a full afternoon of wearing there was almost still 50% left. • Ear pads stay in place very well after adjusting. • Strong Bluetooth signal. Was able to move around pretty far with no signal loss. Even into adjacent rooms. • Can turn on for noise cancellation when plugged in with audio cable Cons • Audio cable fits VERY snug into headset. Took a few tries to figure out when I was getting no sound that it was not plugged in all the way . • Quick guide confusing. • No visual power indicator to show when they are turned on. • Not a big fan of the audio battery life range (e.g. between x an y hours of play time left), however, the manual does a pretty good job explaining what it means. • Powers off when plugged in for charging. • Cannot adjust noise cancellation level it is either full on or you have to plug in audio cable and turn off.

Top Of the Heap, Close to the Best

As the owner of several types of headphones (because I really like them) I can compare these to several wireless headphones that I currently own. First, the unboxing. These come in a really sturdy box and enclosed in an extremely well made hard case with soft material exterior. Inside the case is a soft foam that really shields the headphones from damage. The HD-1s are also inside a nice little bag also. Inside the case are the charging cords, audio cable, airline adapter and quick start manual. The charging cord is just that, the cord. You will need a USB charger to charge the HD-1s. Next are the headphones themselves. I have the black ones that seem relatively sturdy. The headband is a pliable leather material with just a little give where they touch your head. The stitching is yellow on the top. The earcups are a very soft leather with foam inside that do not squeeze or put too much pressure on your head. My ears fit within the cups well and I could wear these for extended periods. The sliders to adjust the height of the earcups are made from stainless steel and give a retro look to the HD-1s, but the microphones on the front of both tell a different story. The only branding is Sennheiser on one side and HD1 on the other. So lastly, the operation. The HD-1s paired easily with my Samsung S-8+, and the quick start guide has a QRC symbol that takes you to the Sennheiser site where you can download their "app". The functionality of this is more of a player/streamer and equalizer. It does not allow for updates or to enable other features of the headphones. This was a little disappointing for a product at this price point and in comparison with other comparably priced headphones. The noise reduction worked well but not quite as well as some "QC" type headphones. The sound is, for wireless headphones" outstanding. Where my "QC" headphones sounded brighter with enhanced treble, these had a much better low end and were well balanced. Using the cord as opposed to wireless mode gave no discernable difference to me. So, are these good headphones: Absolutely! Are they good noise reduction headphones: Reasonably. Are they as good as other comparable headphones in the same price range: I believe the lack of updates or a more robust app for configuring takes away from their overall value. As far as sound, top of the heap, but only close to the top in overall utilization. Good Shopping!

Good sounding headphones but issues with bluetooth

The headphones sound good but the pairing process is painful. The headphones says it's in pairing mode but the headphones itself become visible in the mobile for a long time. Once paired the headphones sound better than most headphones at the price range. Then I tried pairing with the TV and even after retrying multiple times the headphones wouldn't pair with the TV at all. Finally I gave up and will return these. Not worth $400 if the headphone has trouble pairing with devices.

Here we have a very high quality set of 'phones. To me, the best way to test them is with a high definition copy of Pink Floyd's "dark side of the moon". The mids and highs are reproduced effectively with no shrill sounds which are sometimes produced by a lower quality pair. The lows/bass is respectfully reproduced with just enough "oomph" to enhance the general sound. To me, this is a feature that is quickly dying as people are wanting bass heavy over Sonic clarity. The headphones themselves are very comfortable, and you can tell that a lot of thought and work went into achieving this. The feature that I like the most, however, is the nose cancelling. You are still aware what's around you, but at the same time, annoying sounds are filtered out. How they achieved this is anyone's guess. But, it works! If you are in the market for a quality pair of headphones and have a few extra bucks to spend, go splurge on these -you won't be sorry!
