Just to put this on the table from the get-go, I'm a neat freak. Very few things give me more pleasure than perfect vacuum lines in a carpet, and spotless tile floors. I am always on the lookout for way to make my job easier or to get things cleaner. I had very high hopes for the Shark Genius and while it is a top notch steam mop, it will not be replacing my Bissell PowerFresh steam mop.
Both mops pump steam through a reusable cloth cover and hopefully picks up all the junk the vacuum and swiffer didn't (yes I use all three on my tile floors, a nun could eat off of them). After doing some A-B testing which is actually pretty easy when you have tile floors. I did one half of my kitchen with the Shark, the other half with the Bissell. The results were that while both cleaned, the Bissell left less dirt behind and the Shark did not make things really any easier for me. I'll do a breakdown of the pros and cons below:
Pros:
- Easy to use. Light and swivels easily around the floors.
- Don't have to touch the cleaning cloth. I really didn't care about this but it would be important to many people.
- Wide/double sided mop head keeps you from having to replace it during a mopping session, it can take care of a whole floor of tile.
- Comes with an included spray mop handle that lets you turn the mop into more of an old school mop, just with a replaceable cover. I didn't use this mop because I kind of got a steam mop for a reason, and that was to not just use a regular mop again!
- I did like the directed steam blast to get off hard to clean dirt (which I don't really have since I clean things up as they go but I also don't have kids).
Cons:
- While mop head is large, you actually do not get the full area of effect when cleaning. The dirt was obvious in a semicircle around the pivot point where I was able to keep the mop head in constant contact with the floor. This also may be an issue of the mop sides not being wet enough (more on this in a minute).
- Only one level of steam. The instructions say that this mop has 'intelligent' steam levels, but only if 'intelligent' means not enough in some other language. My Bissell has three setting to let me choose how much steam I want. To be fair, there is a higher level of Shark Genius mop that supposedly lets you select your steam level as well, but this one is not it.
- Not enough steam actually seems to be hitting the floor. The steam nozzle seems to just fill the mop head with steam not all of it is directed down at the floor. Now this kind of has to be the case to allow both sides of the mop to be used but I need to use both sides because the first side didn't quite do the job. My Bissell has all the jets pointing at the floor and while I often have to change the mop covers, that is because the steam is so intense that it gets a ton of dirt up off the floor in the first go through.
If I were to receive this as a gift and did not have my Bissell, I would be pretty happy with it but having a great steam mop already and with the Shark not really beating it on any measure, I think I would always prefer my Bissell. The Shark is good, the Bissell is great (oh, and a lot cheaper as well).

I use my mop on tile floors and on laminate flooring.
I like the idea of being able to wash the head.
Easy to use in most cases.
Things I didn't like are as follows:
Power cord is very stiff ,not at all flexible making it hard to even get the full length expanded when cleaning.
I would rather have one handle instead of two.
I do not like at all the fact that that the mop does not stand up on it's own.
Every time you stop to do something you have to have something to lean it against, would have been better if you had designed it to have a handle lock and release.
I really don't feel I could give this more than a 3 star rating.

I have had another (older) version of Steam mop from Shark that came up as a bundle offer with one of its earlier version of vacuum cleaner. Though the vacuum was very good, the steam mop was terrible. Therefore, my wife was very skeptical about this latest mop from Shark.
However, immediately after using this new version of Shark - Genius Steam Pocket® Mop, we have realized that it is a much improved (for really good this time) version of steam mop.
We like:
+ "Touch free technology - Never touch a dirty pad again!"
+ "Flip the head and blast away stuck-on messes!" - this really works!
+ Included spray pocket mop for quick cleaning jobs
+ Electronic Steam works very well.
We DON'T like:
- Extremely sturdy and SHORT power cord.
We had to un-plug and plug the Shark - Genius Steam Pocket® Mop at least 3 times to finish the job on the first floor, whereas Rocket Complete Upright Vacuum with DuoClean has to plug only once to complete the job.
Though, with this short coming, I still recommend Shark - Genius Steam Pocket® Mop - Well done Shark!

I was impressed by the fact that the package not only included the steam mop I was expecting, but also a non-steam (spray) mop as well. The product was very easy to set up and use and did a great job in both types of cleaning scenarios. It was definitely a plus that they included two of the Dirt Grip cleaning pads so that you could be using one while washing the other. The only note I had was that the spray of the Steam Blaster function while very strong did tend to spray higher than I'd have liked and thereby got the walls a bit wet, but otherwise this mop is everything you'd hope for an more. I was very pleased to be able to retire my older competing steam mop machine AND broom pad mops and move to use of just this one.

I have to start by saying I have not actually used this Shark steam mop - my wife hasn't let me yet! She loves how easy it is to use, and how clean it gets our floors. She has used it on both hardwood and tile floors, and is very happy with it! She says she can tell the floors really FEEL cleaner after using the steam mop.
I like how easy it is to install and remove the pads, and the washability of the pads is a great feature. I feel that this mop is a good investment, because it doesn't use disposable pads - there is nothing else to buy with this mop. Just fill with water, and go!
We highly recommend the Shark steam mop!

Sturdy, Versatile, A Real Winner

I decided to give the Shark Genius Steam Pocket mop a try for a few reasons, and I'm sure glad I did. My house consists mostly of sealed laminate wood flooring, along with some tile flooring in the kitchen and linoleum in the bathrooms. Typically, it's not wise to use a steam mop on laminate flooring, which makes the Steam Pocket a great mop candidate. It is extremely versatile; not only does it have two levels of steam ("blast" mode, which shouldn't be used on laminate, and auto mode, which Shark claims can be safely used on sealed laminate flooring), it has an additional handle which converts the unit into a regular mop, with use of the included floor cleaner. This additional handle is where my only complaint with the unit comes in; the included floor cleaner is packaged in a spray bottle which you have to manually spray, not integrated into the unit and dispensed via a trigger mechanism like most mops of this type. Fortunately, there's an included holding bracket for the spray bottle that puts it in easy reach while using the mop. Additionally, the ability to flip the mop in different directions and use both sides provides a great deal of flexibility and versatility with which to clean your floors.
One of the first things that stood out to me was how sturdy the unit is (in both configurations). This is an area that has traditionally been an issue with these types of floor cleaners; generally the handle is so flimsy that it makes effectively cleaning the floor very difficult. Not an issue with this mop. The handle exhibits minimal signs of flex, allowing you to easily clean corners/edges (made especially easy because of the swivel mechanism of the mop head).
This mop most likely doesn't have the steam cleaning power of some more expensive units, but the blast mode works well when a bit more power is needed. Shark has also cleverly designed the trigger mechanism for using the blast mode; you flip the mop over so that the pad is to the back and tilt the handle back a bit. This initiates the steam and is incredibly natural to use, much better than a button you need to hold down. Also, steam flows from the unit shortly after being plugged in (somewhere in the 30 second ball park). No waiting for the water to heat up.
Overall, this is a great cleaner. Its versatility and overall sturdiness make it a great option for anyone looking for a floor cleaner.

Very useful for quickly cleaning our hardwood floors. It did a particularly good job in our kitchen, where it successfully cleaned up dried-on food, cooking grease, and other unpleasant things. Worked well with our oak hardwood and Cali Bamboo (bamboo-based manufactured wood product) floors throughout the house. The steam cleaner does leave a small amount of moisture on the floor, but it evaporates quickly and doesn't soak the wood. Much more convenient than using Murphy's Oil Soap and a mop bucket, down on your hands and knees!

I was skeptical about this product but after using it I am happy to say it works great. We had our tile floors professionally cleaned a couple of weeks ago so I didnt expect this mop to "find" much dirt. I was wrong - it did a great job. It is very easy to use and I did about 1000 sq feet of tile and the water tank was still 1/4 full. It heats up quickly and didnt leave any streaks, etc. and drys very quickly. However I am in Scottsdale, Az and we have very little humidity.. I am struggling as to why there are 2 handles - one with steam and one without. I suppose the one without would be a tad easier to navigate and comes with a spray bottle of cleaning solution. The mop head easily connects/disconnects between the 2.
The only negative I have is it is a little difficult to aim the extreme steam function but with a little practice it was OK. But there isnt a button to activate this function, you flip the mop head and that activates it. I would have preferred a better way to control this...
But I would definitely recommend this...

I'd been trying so hard to hold off on getting a steam mop but my living circumstances definitely warranted one. A few months ago, I got rid of most of the carpet in my house in favor of hardwood floors....AND added a brand new dog to the mix! Any pet owner out there knows the housebreaking process isn't always an easy one. Plus family trekking their unknowns from the bottom of their shoes across the floor makes me cringe. This steam mop from Shark is EXACTLY what I needed. It's large enough that I can mop large areas of my house quickly but small enough to get into tight spaces and underneath the dining table with ease. All the pet dander and her mishaps vanish after I use this. It's comfortable to use. Unlike other mops, my hand doesn't feel "cramped" after I've used it all over the house. Plus, I feel rest assured knowing this thing kills off bacteria. Shark is really pumping out some great products. After hours spent researching different steam mops, I'm glad I got this one. No regrets here!

I spilled some Kool Aid on the floor and it left a sticky residue on my hardwood floors. I decided to use my new mop to clean up the mess. Ten minutes later it was like I just buffed the floors. I love Shark products and I will never pay the price again for the Dyson name. The mop is easy to use and took no time to put together.

Just received my 2 in 1 Steam Pocket Mop/Spray Mop from Shark. Love that its basically 2 mops in one. However, I must say after using it for a couple days my favorite one is the Steam Pocket Mop. This thing is amazing. Assembly was a bit confusing at first but then I realized it was 2 separate type of mops. The mops are very easy to use and can get into hard to reach corners with amazing swivel action; you can also flip the pads over and use the other side. Thanks to Shark, this combo set comes with 2 reusable cloth pads that once get all grimey you can use the release switch and toss them in the wash with the rest of your laundry. No touching those nasty pads. Plus it saves money on not having to buy new pads every time they become dirty. I would totally recommend this for everyday use to keep all types of floors nice a clean from regular day to day mopping as well as quick and easy cleaning of spills. It pretty much takes the chore out of mopping.

I've hadn't a couple of these but this is my favorite so far. First off, the unit is packaged well, seems to be built nicely, and is very easy to set up. It has a nice long cord so you don't waste time having to plug and unplug much.
Performance wise it does really good on my older wood floors. I was skeptical of the self steaming feature but it works great. It makes quick work of my floors. It has a nice sized tank for the water and I can do my entire house without having to refill. That being said, my house is on the small side.
If there is a con with the unit, it is the same as the other steam mops I have used. They'd can be hard to maneuver when steaming. I am a big guy (6'2" and about 220) and it can be tough to move around for me so I can see that it could be aggravating for smaller folks.
Overall this is a great unit that does what it should Andre does it very well. I definitely recommend.

Major gripe is that the heel of the pad feels heavy and it gets hard to push around. Even when trying not to bear down on it. You can see it in the pad as the heel will be dirty while the nose of the pad is fairly clean. It does seem to clean well and the cord is plenty long enough to cover your room.

Shark Steam Mops, a MUST for wood floors

If you have wood floors, you absolutely have to have a Shark Steam Mop to keep them looking their best! My floors are Brazilian Cherry and before I used a steam mop there was always dust on them, even right after vacuuming and using a dust mop. I could not get them to look shiny because there was always dust the vacuum and dust mop left on the floor. Now I use the Shark Steam Mop after vacuuming and they look spectacular. Visitors always ask how I make the floor so shiny. This particular steam mop has a separate handle with a spray mop (like the Swiffer) so you don't have to buy both. Personally, I don't care for this feature because I like the paper pads that come with the Swiffer. That way I can just throw them away after use. I use the Swiffer on really dirty areas like the kitchen and bathroom. With this one you have to use the pad that comes with the steam attachment and wash the pad. That said, otherwise I love this Shark Steam Mop! The pads are microfiber and can be washed in the machine when they get dirty. The instructions don't specify this but don't dry them in the dryer (just like any microfiber cloth) or they won't last as long. The other thing different about this particular model is the pad doesn't have Velcro to attach it to the mop. The pad is flat with pockets on each side that the end of the mop slides into so it isn't a struggle to attach the pad to the head. I think this is an improvement from previous models. With all the Shark Steam Mops you have to add water to get steam. I recommend using only distilled water. In my first steam mop I used tap water and after a period of nonuse my mop head was totally stopped up. It would not produce any steam. I used muriatic acid to clean out the deposits and it worked ok for a while but then it stopped up again and after I cleaned the head again it spit out all kinds of nasty black stuff out with the steam. If you use distilled water this won't happen. In summary, I highly recommend any Shark Steam Mop for wood floors especially dark ones. You won't believe the difference.

My tile looks amazing after using this mop. Being able to flip the mop head and use the steam blast is a really great feature as it does get stubborn junk cleared. The mop takes about 30 seconds or so to start producing steam once turned on and will keep making noise for a minute after being turned off. The on and off button is on the body of the mop instead of the handle which is somewhat inconvenient. The mop does seem cheaply made so I am skeptical about how long I will be able to enjoy this product. These two reasons are why I give it an overall 4 star rating.

The Genius Steam Pocket Mop is great for anyone who has hard floors. Whether you are looking for an alternative cleaning solution and a way for lessen the physical demands of mopping, I would recommend trying this mop.
It comes with TWO handles! One has the actual steam mop device and the other attaches without the steam to clean up "spills and everyday messes." The best thing about this mop is the amount of thought that went in to every aspect of it. The non-steam handle has an attachment to hold a spray bottle for pre-treating messes to be mopped up.
Both handles are easy to attach and remove. Instructions are well-laid out and so simple to follow. The devices has many features so this was helpful. It includes TWO REVERSIBLE cloth mops that are washable! Very convenient and they are of great quality, not cheap or flimsy.
The steam works well and makes cleaning so much easier. It also sanitizes, which is great for kids, those with dogs, or the elderly. You can easily flip the mop to activate an extra burst of steam for deeper cleaning and flip is right back. Very simple. The maneuverability is amazing! It can twist, turn and rotate in any direction with so much ease. The handles are also long so bending is never required, short or tall.
The steam handle also comes with a nice small bucket to fill with water to pour into the steamer. It also attaches directly to the mop! Never worry about losing it or trying to awkwardly fill the steamer.
Attaching the mop head is very simple and the instructions are clear.
VERY IMPORTANT: One feature that I really was impressed by was the attachment and removal of the cloth head. It is designed so you NEVER have to touch your used dirty mop when you're finished! You detach it very easily and dump directly into washing machine or bucket!
I highly recommend this device. It works great. Its easy to set up. It is highly functional. Worth a try!

It's bulky. I like it's 2 tools in one but my Swiffer Wet jet was much easier for daily cleanups. The steamer works ok and that's really the reason I got it as I have several cats...
I also like the touchless mop head and it's washable. Never a need to buy or touch those now except to throw in the laudry.

Way More "Yes" than "No"

Since this is a "Steam Mop", I should start out by addressing those two qualities. The mop head is large and absorbent and just coarse enough to be an excellent mop head - and the unit produces plenty of steam very quickly and the unit cleans floors beautifully. So for steaming and mopping this works great - so that's the short version.
This package actually comes with two handle units - one is the steam mop unit and the other unit is basically just a stick that allows you to use the mop head as a big glorified Swiffer (and I don't see the value in adding that). I only see that addition as a way of trying to sell replacement mop heads and to sell their own brand of floor cleaning fluid (a sample is provided!).
But the steamer unit is the selling point here. And this Shark seems to produce a ton of steam quickly - it is shot from a single source at the front of the unit and steams in front of the mop head. Works like a charm.
There are only two things I'm not completely sold on - both are worth being aware of before you buy this item: (1) I'm not a big fan of the oval handles on the units - they don't seem to solve any problem that I am aware of - they don't lend themselves to easier work, & (2) the steam is not produced by a triggering action but by the actual back-and-forth action of the mop itself (it is probably designed that way to insure that steam is only produced in the correct direction for the mop but I would prefer that the mop let me be in control of the steam).
Like all Shark products, the mop is well balanced. It has a two-pronged plug which is nice. It also comes with a spare machine-washable pad. The instructions recommend replacing the pads after 20 uses - and I'm assuming that means after 20 washings (yeah....I'll replace them when they fall off the pad holder).

Cleanest hardwoods since we moved in 17 years ago

We've been using the old standby for our hardwood floors - a handheld mop - so this is quite a change for us. Assembly was VERY straightforward, with basically an attachment of the pole to the mop head, and a snap-on plastic measuring cup. Directions were hardly needed when it's that simple.
One thing that likely will never change when cleaning hardwoods is that the hardwoods should be swept before cleaning. As far as ease of use, this is about as simple as it gets. The mop applies steam to the floor, which has the advantage of removing anything that has adhered to the floor. A little steam, a little scrubbing, and the problem is solved.
The power cord is nice and sturdy, which is good as well as not so good since it can get in the way during use. Additionally, the mop won't self-stand, which would be helpful when running into items on the floor that were missed when the floor was swept and need to be picked up. You can, however, lean it into a corner and it will stay in place just fine.
